P7N SLI FI not posting after 1600mhz fsb

I can get stable at 1500fsb, 800mem on a c2d e6300.  But when I reach 1600 it won't post.  Any help would be appreciated.  My system specs are:
E6300
Corsair DDR2 XMS 800mhz 4 4 4 12 2t, 2.1v
OCZ Gamestream 700w PS
Nvidia gtx260

It all depends on which E6300 you have and did you ever think about the fact your cpu doesnt do a FSB of 1600??
If you have the 2.8GHz version, its rated @1066MHz fsb, with 10.5 multiplier, so when you do 1600Mhz, its gonna be 10.5*400=4.2GHz!!
Even for a 45nm C2D thats a lot.
You say you can do 1500MHz, so thats 10.5*375=3.94GHz already, so even if you get it done, you'll hardly notice the difference.
So its prob not the board but the cpu that has reached its limit.
Just because some dude in the world gets it done, doesnt mean you can do it too you know.
Even if you have the 1.86GHz version, the 65nm Conroe C2D, it also can be you reached the limit of the cpu, cause then it would be 7*400=2800Mhz
and that would be a 1GHz overclock on a budget cpu.
I know it can bedone, but I havent seen many get there without troubles and a lot of testing and trying.
But hey, if you dont have the patience, overclocking isnt your thing, cause you need a lot of patience and time.
It not just pressing the numbers and presto, it works.
Oh and 1 more thing, its a USER to USER forum, so it takes time for people to answer, cause the most here have a normal dayjob/life and do this on the side.
So no-one here works for MSI or has anything to do with MSI, besides running this forum.
Also MSI personell/staff/techs dont ever post here, they seldom do, so ranting about customerservice and badboards is useless here, cause MSI will never read it.

Everything's hooked up, powered up, and spinning, just no signal to the monitor.  With the PSU on, there's one red LED lit on the mobo, powering on the machine adds a blue one to the mix.  Graphics card gives two green lights on its power jacks, indicating proper power.  I know the monitor works, I took it from another machine I have, mouse and keyboard work, and I've tried switching memory configs and just one stick (2G).  I've also cleared the CMOS several times.
Updated: I've taken everything out of the case and have tried with just PSU, GPU, memory, CPU, and heatsink -- same results.
    Anybody, good news?  Many thanks...
    -jmp8

Just got the new mobo, it works!
Now, though, BSOD as Vista boots up "for the first time."  That's after the installation from DVD, before it actually gets to fully boot from HD.  There's only been extra information one out of probably about 15 screens - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.  I've tried disabling everything fancy in the BIOS - onboard USB, LAN, etc., still no dice.
BIOS reports everything correctly - quad core 2.4, 4G RAM, 500GB HD, etc.
There's not much hardware I can take out/disable - no onboard video means I have to use the video card (known working, I had it tested), trying to boot from the HD (reported good via Vista's diagnostics on the installation disc), Memory reported fine by diags, gotta have the optical drive connected to complete installation...
Is there a BIOS update I need or something else I'm missing?
    EDIT:
Through a couple reformats and repartitions (just one partition) and reseating the video card/memory, I got Vista installed.  Whoo!  Set everything up, downloaded video drivers, restarted, everything's just fine.  This continues for a bit, then another BSOD.  Safe mode (with and without networking) works fine, and I tried uninstalling the new video drivers, but no luck.
    UPDATED UPDATE:
The blue screens hang on "Initializing disk for crash dump...", and in safe mode, when going to "Manage Computer" and selecting "Disk Configuration," I get a blue screen every time when it tries to populate the info.  HD problem?
    Thanks again!

  • Processes Not Posting After Maintenance

    Hi,
Periodically, processes will go to Not Posted status after we bounce the servers during our maintenance window. Usually, bouncing the process scheduler and clearing the cache does the trick. However, one in a blue moon, jobs simply will not post. We will spend hours bouncing servers, clearing caches, etc. and nothing works. Then a couple of hours later everything will start to post.
Any familiar experiences or thoughts on why this occurs?

The maintenance varies from week to week; it's generally OS-level patching that doesn't require a reboot. I've got an experienced Tech Arch team taking the servers up and down, so I'm confident that the servers are being bounced correctly.
In the past, when reports have not posted after maintenance we have shut down the process scheduler and cleared cache and reports started posting. More recently, we've bounced the servers for several hours only to have reports start posting on their own afterwards.
I pulled the stdout log and found the following:
Java exception thrown: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused (errno:239)
HTTP Status Code is: 900 (63,72)
Error getting report repository location. (63,85)
    SchedulerTransfer Servlet error. (63,74)

  • P7N SLI-FI, No POST no Video

    Before I begin, specs:
    500W EarthWatts Antec Power supply
    x2 1GB 800Mhz DDR2 Patriot Memory PC2-6400
    PNY GeForce 8800GT 512MB DDR3
    Intel Core2Duo 3.0 Ghz, E8400, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333 MHz FSB, 45 nm
    MSI P7N SLI-FI, Nvidia 750i SLI supporting DDR2
If I missed something you'd like to see I'll throw it in but I think that should be all that is needed.  So the problem lies in that once I set up everything, and power on, I've no video but a blank screen to look at.  The graphics card was sitting in the mazarine PCIE slot.  I also tried using an ATI X300 card that is in my current working machine and placed it into the last of the PCIE slots that don't support PCIE 2.0 like the mazarine does.  I find that I still have no video.  My memory sticks are placed in the 1 and 3 slots as listed in the manual.  I receive no POST beeps either.  The GeForce 8800 GT does have a problem with PCIE 1a slots and produces a problem similar to what I have now: no video.  However this shouldn't be able to be the problem as the card and the PCIE slot I placed it in are both 2.0 compatible.  I'm checking all parts more than once just to be sure.
Anyone have any ideas?  I'm open to suggestions, anything from highly technical to flying monkeys.

Have you connected power cable for the CPU:
    "PNY GeForce 8800GT 512MB DDR3"
Have you connected power cable from PSU to the VGA too?
    "x2 1GB 800Mhz DDR2 Patriot Memory PC2-6400"
    Have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< {With power cord removed}
And with one memory stick only in a 1st DIMM?
"I also tried using an ATI X300 card that is in my current working machine and placed it into the last of the PCIE slots that don't support PCIE 2.0 like the mazarine does.  I find that I still have no video. "
Use the same PCI-E slot, e.g. the 1st one PCI-E. It should boot.
    "500W EarthWatts Antec Power supply"
List amperes per each rail, example in my signature.
    Also have you tried:
Test the motherboard outside of the case to verify that the motherboard is not shorting to the case and causing a problem
         •    With only the CPU and heat sink, memory, and video card (or onboard video) connected to the motherboard, place the motherboard on a non-conductive surface and retest the motherboard
         •    Check the case mounting standoffs to verify that they are lining up correctly with the mounting holes on the motherboard.
    "Intel Core2Duo 3.0 Ghz, E8400, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333 MHz FSB, 45 nm"
Re seat the CPU as well.
Also inspect CPU socket for bent-ed pins.
    "Intel Core2Duo 3.0 Ghz, E8400, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333 MHz FSB, 45 nm"
    Which one you have?:

  • Result Analysis(WIP) not posted after 4 cycle run

    Hi,
Every month value is posted in Result Analysis GL account for WIP. But we found in period 10 and period 11 value is not posted Result Analysis GL account after running 4 cycle run (Overhead calculation, WIP calculation, Variance calculation and Settlement). What may be reason ??
    Regards,
    Samrat

    Hi Christian ,
One question related to Cut-Off period regarding WIP calculation which myself and Ajay were discussing 15 days  back..
Is it required to change the cut-off everymonth when we calculate WIP . In my client.. then donot do that .. but still we calculate the WIP..
Is the significance of cut-off period is to tell the system the first period to calculate WIP .. during implementation .. My client never changes that and its in a MTS ( Process Order Senario )... but calculates WIP every month.
    Regards
    Sarada

  • P7N sli does not start up

    hello
My p7n sli doesnt power on
i tested it using 2 different psu (both of them work fine in other systems)
I could check the psu fan does not spin when i hit the power button, nor when i short the power pins in the front pannel connector of the motherboard, so i think it is the reason why it doesnt start up
is there any other way to activate the psu?
    please somebody help me

since i have no psu information on hand my psu is Thermatke tr2 430w
i am using it with my other gigabyte mobo and it works fine
24 pin and 8 pin connector were plugged in
The fact is that the psu seems not to start from the front pannel power pins (not even the psu fan spin
So i think it is the a problem with the power pins that dont activate the psu
2 different psu were used and the same thing happenned, but they are working right now with other systems.
I am testing it only with board, cpu with heatsink and fan, and ram (all of them tested)

  • 785GTM-E45 not POSTing after a week (Need help)

    Hello guys and girls,
    Good day to you.
I am new here as I just happily purchase my new MSI motherboard last week. Yay~
However, I am now currently facing problem in POSTing the PC after it was working beautifully for a week. Hope someone can help me as I have exhausted my testing/diagnostics options.
Some other infos that might be informative :-
1.) APS LED does not light anymore.
2.) No longer have successful POST beep anymore. (CPU Cooler comes on though)
3.) Of course the black screen.
4.) The last boot time, I remember seeing CMOS related error in the POST screen. After that loaded into Windows XP 32bit and I restarted the PC. Then the No POST happened.
    My PC hardware components :-
    CPU: Athlon X2 5000 (2.2GHz)
Motherboard: MSI 785GTM-E45 (ver 1.4) (No idea on how to check the BIOS as I can't even POST now)
RAM: I have 4 units working memory that I have tested to be working in this motherboard before it is not POSTing.
    a.) Kingston DDR2 667MHz (KVR667D2N5/2G) [1 Stick]
    b.) Mushkin DDR2 800MHz [1 Stick]
c.) Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066MHz 2x1GB Kit [2 Sticks] (using this one as the main before it failed to POST)
    Graphics: Using onboard
    PSU: Seasonic S12D 750W
    a.) +3.3V = 24A ; +5V = 30A. (150W)
    b.) +12V Combine = 62A (744W)
    c.) -12V = 0.8A (9.6W)
    d.) +5Vsb = 3A (15W)
Diagnostics that I have done :-
1.) Checked whether the motherboard is touching the casing which will ground it. The motherboard is screwed on the standoffs with a 1.5cm away from the case. Checked the motherboard edges, not touching the casing either. Checked whether is there any screws that are short-circuiting the motherboard, nothing there as well.
2.) Unplug the HDD and ODD. No POST as well. Plugged the HDD and ODD to another computer, it works.
3.) Triple checked the power connections in the PC. No POST. After that plugged my Seasonic PSU to another computer to test. It was working.
4.) Plugged another working PSU (Xigmatek 550W) from a working PC. Quadruple check the power connections is correct. No POST still.
5.) Test the memory DIMMs with different slots (all 4 of them). Installed one at a time and each time is in different slot. No POST still. Tried the board with NO memory, it beeps non-stop (Good news it is still working?)
6.) Did the Clear CMOS method according to manual. No POST still.
7.) Checked the monitor by plugging into another computer and see whether is it faulty. Is working.
8.) Retest all the memory DIMMs in another PC. All 4 DIMMs is working in another PC.
9.) Carefully remove the CPU and reseat the processor. After that retest all the 4 memory DIMMS (No matter which slot). No POST still.
10.) Disassemble the motherboard from the casing and other components to checked whether the capacitors are bad. Didn't detect any.
11.) Plugged in a working graphic card to check whether the onboard graphic is faulty. No POST still.
So now, I think I am left with 2 possibilities. The processor or the motherboard, however, the motherboard was the one showing symptoms based on the LED thing. So I am siding towards the motherboard is faulty?
I am out of ideas now. Hope someone can help me.

Yes, the CPU power is connected. both the 4 pins and 24 pins.
Some updates, I went to buy a Sempron 140 processor to test just for the sake whether the mobo works.. I just burnt some money on it.. it won't work.. Brought the motherboard back to the shop, they tested it and it is faulty.. so warranty claim. Guess I wont have a mobo for sometime..
Consider solved and I just burnt some money buying a spare proc which I think I wont be using also. haha.
Thanks for everyone who attempted to help me.

  • MSI P7N SLI Platinum - no POST, how to use Floppy BIOS upgrade

    Component Summary:

Same problem is occurring as outlined in the following threads:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119615.0
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=120513.0
I've carried out the same out-of-box tests indicated in 119615.0 without success.
    Question:
Is it possible to force the existing system to boot to the FDD where the BIOS upgrade (v 1.2) would be stored ready for use? If yes, kindly outline the necessary steps to be carried out and please point me to the correct BIOS upgrade link for this configuration. If all else fails, MOBO can be exchanged but if BIOS can be upgraded via this method, I prefer this approach. I don't have access to an alternative CPU, so that approach is far less than ideal. Thanks for your assistance.

Is it possible to force the existing system to boot to the FDD where the BIOS upgrade (v 1.2) would be stored ready for use?
Yes, in theory it is possible to try an AMI BIOS Recovery Flash. However, in case their are other problems that are not visible because of the current problem, it is rather risky.  If there is a memory problem or something similar that is currently undetected, the system may crash during flashing and your board will be rendered useless.
    Quote
f yes, kindly outline the necessary steps
    What you need:
    - you need an internal floppy drive (properly connected to the board and 100% intact)
    - you need an empty & formated floppy disk (make sure you check it for errors before you use it)
    - you need a PS/2 Keyboard
    What you have to do:
    - download the latest BIOS-Archive file from here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1373
    - extract the BIOS File (e.g. A7380NMS.120), rename it to AMIBOOT.ROM [not AMIBOOT.120.ROM] and copy it to the floppy disk
    - insert the prepared floppy disk into the floppy drive attached to the P7N SLI Platinum and Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU
    - start the system and hit CTRL + HOME to force the system into recovery mode
If that does not work, try a different floppy drive & disk.  Don't complain is the system crashes during flashing if the recovery flash starts (system stability is your responsibility).
If you can't get the recovery routine to start and read the AMIBOOT.ROM file from the floppy disk, you need to install a supported processor.

  • System does not post after Bios Flash

After using Live Update to flash my Bios to the new version, the computer does not POST. The Bios Flash was successful - it rebooted and started normally. When I tried to restart it the normal way, it will not boot. The fans run when the "power on" button is pressed but nothing more. I cleared the CMOS using the jumpers but the problem was not solved. Can any one help?
Can some good Samaritan give me a step by step method to resolve this problem?

I followed the link you provided and managed to resolved it:
    1) Removed one memory stick and floppy;
    2) Cleared CMOS and rebooted successfully;
    3) Inserted floppy and reverted to the previous BIOS;
    4) Inserted the other memory stick and brought system back to full power again.
Thank you very much for your assistance. I am sure MSI is aware of the problem and will take steps to rectify it ASAP

  • P7N Diamond will not POST

    Hi everyone.
This is my first build. The board powered up just fine, but would not POST. No beeps, nothing. I tried stripping down the system, part by part, until I was down to just one stick of RAM & the CPU - no luck. I've been doing some extensive researching, and I've tried everything I can think of.
    Here's the build:
OCZ PSU - Game Xtreme series 700 W
    P7N Diamond
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz (retail box)
    Corsair DOMINATOR (2 X 2GB) DDR2 1066
    MSI NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT, 256 DDR3
Seagate Barracuda SATA drive, 250 GB
    Sony IDE combo optical drive
I RMAed the board & processor (replacement)
I'm quite frustrated and disappointed at this point.  Any tips/tricks or advice would be welcome!

Quote from: AaronYuri on 12-May-08, 01:17:13
Did you try a clear CMOS? Different memory? My Dominators wouldn't boot without 2.00v VDIMM.
Yes, I tried clearing CMOS. I WOULD'VE tried different memory, but I don't have any compatible sticks around. But, I tried removing all the ram, thinking that if that Dominators were causing the problem, the board would start to post, and then beep at me when it couldn't find any RAM - no results. :-(

  • P7N Mobo won't POST after a month, revisited

recieved new (not really new, it's been installed in something before) mobo from 2nd RMA, still no boot.  amazing that the serial number was only sequence numbers away from the original.  anyhow, system again 'barebones'd and still no POST.  even tried a plain jane PCI video card to no avail.  i'm shocked.  MSI again offered to RMA, at this point what's the use?  i ordered EVGA's model instead.  at least they'll cross-ship if there's something wrong.
so, what are my options now except to RMA again?  i don't want this board anymore, i'd rather have my dough back but i'm afraid it's $150 up in smoke.
guess i'll go try and find a port80 card from my lab and see if that'll tell me anything, because i'm pretty much done waiting for this thing to ever work right and so far sending it back 2x hasn't gotten me anywhere.

    a bit of background:
Firstly, I'm a BIOS architect, so i'm not new to building/debugging systems.
system was originally working in following config:  2x1GB Patriot DDR2 800 (4-4-4-12, 2.1V set via BIOS), Q9300 2.5GHz (no overclock, stock voltages for everything else), 700W p/s, Zotac 8800GT 512MB PCIe 2.0 video, Samsung IDE DVD drive (master in IDE1), WD 40GB IDE drive (master IDE0), Seagate 160GB SATA I (SATA 1 port), PS2 keyboard/mouse, ethernet.
when the WD started to go (the OS disk) i cloned it to an 80GB Seagate SATA II laptop drive i had and ran that until i got a real replacement drive.  The 80GB seagate went into SATA port 1 and the 160 moved to SATA 2.  DVD i think i moved to IDE0.  Things worked fine.  New Seagate 250GB SATA II 3.5" drive arrived and i cloned the 80GB to that and swapped it into SATA port 1.  THis is where the trouble started.
Upon rebooting, the system didn't come up all the way.  I rechecked my drive connections and rebooted.  The BIOS posted and indicated it had restored defaults due to 3x failed attempts to boot.  (Of course this was only 2 boots, but i didn't pay much attention).  I set the memory timing back to 4-4-4-12, 2.1V and checked all others (looked fine) and rebooted.  system never posted after that.
Only thing system appears to do is power up and the CPU fan runs.  Putting a 4 pin fan has the fan start up fast, then slows down (which to me says BIOS is booting enough to turn down the fan via the fan controller).
Figured it was a p/s issue, so tried one i had laying around, no POST.
Figured it was CPU problem, got a new one and tried again, no POST.
Thought perhaps it was a p/s issue again (the second one i had was pretty old, but came from a formerly working system), bought a brand new BFG 650W and tried again, no POST.
I then tried everything in the troubleshooting guides, removed from system to anti-static mat (i have a wrist 'leash' and the mat is properly grounded to house ground), and tried all combinations of no disk drives, no memory, single memory, tried old PCI video card, all no POST.
RMA'd mobo.  They repaired something (didn't indicate what).  Got system back, plugged it all back together and powered up, no POST.
Tried all troubleshooting tricks again, no POST.
RMA'd again, this time requested completely new mobo.
Got system back, plugged it all back together and powered up, no POST again!
    Ordered EVGA mobo.
Got *another* RMA after talking to MSI tech support live.  The only thing that he could suggest is that perhaps the new drive caused some problem to the board.  This might be plausible, but SATA being hot pluggable, i wouldn't think that this could be an issue ever, even if i did plug it in while the system was on (which i didn't, every insertion/removal has been with system disconnected from power (removed A/C cable from p/s)).
Does *anyone* have any ideas that i might try?
(This is a system that's supposedly tested ok from MSI, and since i've got a different board coming if someone would like to toss me $100 i'd sell it rather then send it back).  I'd rather keep it and get it working since i've spent my hard-earned cash and time on it already, but at this point it's been 6 weeks and i can't be without a desktop for any longer.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum 7125 not posting after overclock testing okay

    Hi Guys,
I'm having a real stinker of a problem with my 7125 board.  I have all good components, but can't seem to get this bastard to post reliably when I'm overclocking.  I was thinking that it was my power supply so I bought a new Antec Neo3 650W supply and it doesn't matter.  I also got a new Opteron 165 processor and it still has problems.  I even RMA'd my board and then sent me a new one.  Here is my setup.
    7125 ver1
    Opty 165
    Crucial PC3200 Ballistix
    Nvidia PCIE Gforce 6200 video
    Antec Neo3 650W
    2x Seagate SATA 80gig (matched) 7200.9
RAID 0 via the SIL 3114
extra 160 gig HD (using the Nvidia SATA port)
Pioneer DVD 109 DVDRW - pri IDE
Sony DRU-820A DVDRW - sec IDE
    Hauppauge PVR150
3.5" card reader (connected via internal usb header)
    Lian Li case
When I run the system at stock speeds everything works fine, including the initial posts.
However, when I overclock, everything is erratic.  Sometimes, I can overclock the entire system to 290x3, 166, stable memory settings, and prime 95 orthos the  out of it for days on end (max CPU at 49C), but when I select restart in windows, it shuts down fine, but will subsequently not post. I have to hit the reset key several times, then it recovers itself and undoes the overclocks.
I have tried all sorts of memory timings from the crucial info - it recommends 2.8V and 2-2-2-8 timings.
I have heard that my memory is good for overclocking, but I'm now starting to wonder if it is the MSI Neo4 board or the Nvidia Nforce 4 ultra chipset.
Could it be the Raid 0 on the Sil 3114?  I haven't messed with this as I would rather have a RAID 0 setup, then a little overclock.
Is there a good NF4 ultra board out there that is better than this?
I can't imagine anything else to do except keep spending more money to eliminate more variables.
    Your thoughts?  Thx Nick

relax your CPU HTT freq. by 10-20Mhz and retest.
relax your memory timings e.g. from 2-2-2-8 to 2.5-3-3-8, to findout from where its comes then find optimal settings.

  • MSI P7N SLI-FI No post, nothing

    Hi,
I got all of the components for the new PC and put them all together. I've checked up all of the connections to make sure all of them are connected properly, i.e., power cables, connections to various components such as video card, hard drive, dvd drive, CPU, CPU fan, case fan, ect...
When I plugged in the computer, nothing was happen. I see that a little red light next to the power setting cable (connecting the power on button from the case to the motherboard) was on.
Aside from this, nothing was really on.
Could someone please let me know what's happened and what have I done wrong?
    The components are:
Case - Antec Sonata III 500
    Motherboard - MSI P7N SLI-FI
CPU - Intel Dual Core E7200

Have you tried with different and better PSU yet?
Also re seat the CPU and check CPU socket for bent pins.
I checked twice, it's good. thanks!
Thanks to all of your help!
I brought it back to Fry's (the store) to have it diagnost, it's confirmed that this mobo was DOA. I try to exchange for another motherboard and tested there. It's also DOA.
    MSI mobo is really suck!

This is a brand new system.  Would adding another floppy drive help to solve this problem?  Or is the built-in floppy controller busted?

Unable to pass post and we have no visual on the monitor.  Please advise with regards to further action to take.  I oft see suggestions of removing RAM and booting with a single stick.  Is this advisable towards troubleshooting?  Or is this something that isn't passed previous to the floppy controller check that is coming up faulty?  Thanks in advance.
Edit:  Attempted to boot with different 1 stick of RAM variations.  On one attempt recieved brief life on the screen as it toggled between analog and stereo and was then unresponsive after a few seconds along with each subsequent attempt.

so with one memory stick system booting normal?
No with 4, or with just 1 of the 4 sticks (placement being in the DIMM slot nearest the CPU) our results are the same as my initial post.  We have nothing visable on the screen, just black, all connections were secure, power to cpu, 24 pin in correctly, all we ever recieve is 1/3/4 green on the LED and 2 red denoting floppy disk problems.  We can't even get into bios as we have nothing on the screen.
Also, I should note that we are imaging a hd on the computer next to it and are swapping the monitor when we are booting up the new system so the monitor does in fact work.
