P7N Sli Platinium and E8400 issue

Hello,
I just built a new config :
P7N SLI Platinium
E8400 (SLB9J)
DDR 2 1Go*2 Kensington
Nvidia 9600 GT
HDD SATA Seagate
And here is what i get :
A7380NMS V1.1 022508
Intel Core 2 CPU     E8400  @  3.00GHz, Speed 333x9=2997 MHz
DRAM Frequency For DDR2 800 (Dual-Channel)
Initializing USB Controllers ... Done.
2048 MB OK
Press DEL key to enter Setup Menu, F11 to enter boot menu
And that's all !!
Can't go further, i tried every slot of ram, they all works, i removed everything, no solution...
I read here and there that it might be a Bios Firmware problem, but is that correct, because i've got no other 775 CPU to boot...
Thanks for your help!

And last thing, i guess it will work also if i flash with the 1.3 version ? Is there any intrest ?
Yes go for 1.3 it should works.

Or maybe it's possible to flash from a usb key directly from the bios ?
No, but you can do your USB key bootable and proceed with BIOS update.
Prepare the USB key in another mainboard.

    Hello
I have already read lot of review of overcloking. So i decided to overclok too .
For my case i think that i have discover the problem but i am not shure . I have read in a review of the MSI P7N Platnium that the motherbord can not go above 1333Mhz of FSB . I have a E8400 so it's by defautlt at 1300Mhz. What do you think ???
Another question is how can i know the ratio between my FSB and my memory ??? It can help me for the OC beacause i can try to reduce the frequency memory and try to see if i can exeed 1300Mhz of Front Side Bus. In cell menu i have the choise of auto , linked and manuel . When i choose linked i don't know the ratio so i can't know how my memory frequency is calulated when i change the FSB of my CPU.  Try to help me here if someone can .
    Don't forget i have a corsair PC26400 (800Mhz) so i can't go above 400Mhz . My timing according to CPU-Z  in EPP : 4-4-4-12-2T at 2.1V
My last question is i have try to overclok directly in OS whith setFSB . But i don't know the PLL of the Msi P7N sli platinium. Can someone tell me what is it ?? I am trying to know if i can increase the FSB directly in windows Mode. Of course i will change my frequency memory in the BIOS to 275Mhz           ( according to CPUZ it it's possible) to not be limited by my memory and especially because i don't Know the ration DRAM:FSB .  I think it's more easily and more safe .
When i let the bios in auto i read in CPUZ a ration DRAM:FSB = 5:6 which is normal because the bus is at 333Mhz and my memory 400Mhz. But i choose linked i don't know if the ratio is the same when i change the FSB ??
Can you suggest me another program inside of SetFSB ???
If someone tell me that i can't increase 1300Mhz in this motherboard so i will stop here to oc and not loose my time.
    Thanks ...

  • Overcloking E8400/ Msi P7N sli platinium

    Hello Everybody
I am french and i am trying to OC may E8400 to 3g6 for the moment. This is my spec :
    PSU : Thermaltake 750W
    Corsair PC26400 (800Mhz) : Timing : 5-5-5-18 at 1.9V
CPUZ tells me that i have a EPP timing : 4-4-4-12 at 2.1V Do i have to use this timing or the SPD timing ??
    E8400 FSB = 1333Mhz
    So my ratio is FSB/RAM = 5/6
So i am going to the BIOS in Cell Menu . I disabled the DOT , the EINST and the spectrum.
I disabled auto for manuel in cpu clock. I put the FSB to 400Mhz so 1600 in the bios. I change the timing to 5-5-5-18.
After i change the Cpu Voltage to 1.22V , the memory to 2.1V and i increase the VTT , NB Voltage a little . But i dont touch the SB voltage.
I save and when i restart my pc freeze and i have to reset the CMOS . It tells mis that my overcloking as failed but i don't know what is wrong ??? The FSB can go to 1600 without a problem no ?
My second question is how to make the ratio 1:1 . I was thinking that if put the fsb from 333 to 400 i will have  a ratio of 1:1.
    Thanks for the Help.

  • P7N SLI Plat. and memory settings

Hey guy! Again, great forums! Thanks for all the help. Noob question coming up.
I have a couple of questions about the P7N SLI Platinum and memory settings. Oh, before I begin, let me say that I bought this stuff as part of deal, and ended up with the 1066 ram.
I have a few options under my belt, and I don't know which would be the best. I'm also looking for some kind of software to test RAM speeds; test between MHZ and timings performance? Does Sandra do that? Anyone know of any other programs?
Some recommend that I run 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio (looks like the most favored), but some say some boards can do better if everything is running as fast as it can, and not to worry about the ratio.
So which is it with the P7N, which is a 750i chipset?
Here's the rest of the situation:
    I have a set of 2x2GB DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15; 2T  @2.1v.
    I have a Q6600 2.4GHz   @ 3.0Ghz (1333x9) OC-ed.
I have run this memory at 1066 on this board with no hitches (overclocking the board essentially, but it handles it like a champ)
I can also run it at 800; but I have not tried tighter timings on this.
I can run it at 667 and lower timings to 4-4-4-14; 1T with no problems (so far). This gives me a 1:1 ratio as well.
This is what I am running right now.
What should I do with this board and this CPU? Should I keep 1:1 and tighten timings? I don't know if I can go below 4-4-4-14; I haven't tried yet.
Or should I run at 1066 with the stock timings?
I have been reading, but I keep hearing conflicting information (though I will admit, it's hard to find info that is very recent; articles varied from '06-'08) Some say 1:1 is best, others say that it's not necessary these days, with modern boards?
The different performance preferences also seem to vary from chipset to chipset? Is that correct?
Thank You very much for helping a lost noob!

Remus this is no bulldash, i had two 1GB DDR2 1066 cl5 1.8 volt and i sold it on ebay a week ago for £21.00 . i used it on my p6 which would take only ddr2 800 (it ran at 800mhz 1.8 volt but these were not suitable at all in terms of stability) and also on my asus which would take ddr21066 but only after overclocking fsb but keeping the default voltage at 1.8volt. those who say ddr2 1066 1.8 volt does not exist should review their comments. i believe crucial does ddr2 1066  1.8 volt and also ddr2 1066 2.1 volt
here is the proof of ebay

    http://s240.photobucket.com/albums/ff177/kourosh22/?action=view&current=ScreenShot076.jpg
a memory has an oscillator and we  refer to them as 800mhz or 1066mhz. because memory sticks have 240 terminals or pins for transfer of data in order to be able to increase the rate of transfer not only the oscillator speed has to be increased other parameters has to change.
DDR2 1066 1.8 volt is a memory which it's  oscillator oscillate at 1066mhz when 1.8 volt is applied to, it's terminals with cas latency 5 or Cl5.
DDR2 1066 2.1 or 2.2 volt is a memory which it's oscillator oscillate at 1066mhz when 2.1 or 2,2 voltage is applied to it's terminals otherwise it will oscillate at 800mhz. these kind of DDR2 1066 are referred to as DRR2 800 overclocked.

  • P7N SLI PLATINIUM SERIES MS-7380 (bios issues)

OK.... last year in november i posted some issues with bios updateing , i still got em.
I made a windows 98 bootdisk on a usb flash drive to flash my bios , bios event good without any errors while flashing , but im still getting bsod, freeze even when comp is idle , playing small 2d games like warcraft 3 will make system crash within 2-12mins.
i tried everything from voltage ajustments to disabling various stuff like eist/spread/hpet and pressing f4 for hidden cpu features nothing helps , i resently installed a gtx260 card cause i thought that might help , replaced psu with a new one a silverpower 850w , in november when i wrote my last post i had issues getting the ram modules to work properly , and have been battling with this issue since , btw when using program called TEST MY HARDWARE it says bios version -ASUS- 200811119 bios date 11/19/08 same time i swicthed from a asus motherboard to this p7n , whats going on ......
    here´s my spec.
    Cpu:E2160

    TFT:PACKARD BELL 22" MAESTRO
Tried vista ultimate 32bit and 64bit xp pro 32bi and 64bit.
All systems bios settings are set to  load as optimal settings but i get crashes all day long , and have been since november 2008
And so you dont ask nope i didnt install a bios from asus i downloaded the http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=8694&type=bios from the msi bios update for my board , but looks like a inprint from my ram/cpu or something is still there ???? from old motherboard any idears would be helpfull since im getting grayhaired with this issue
regards darksinner /ps it also crashes when looking at bios sometimes.....

I did write psu specs silverpower 850w.
i used the msi download link for the bios , wich i also in the post.
    msinfo32 says Amercan megatrends Inc. v.1.3 19-11-2008.
    postscreen says A7380nms v.1.3 111908
bios agent tells me the bios is bad , under nvidia performance monitor no motherboard manufactor is shown.
not that i matters , its clearly bios related , game freezes , comp freezes when idle , and ill say again i tried going back to all the bios msi homepage can provide v.1.0 v.1.1 v.1.2 v.1.3 no matter wich one i take still freezes , run memtest86 no issues , testet ram in other computer no issues , testet a eah3650 ati card , a gf9600 , and finally a gtx260 , ran /sfc scannow no issues , did i mention that is crashes doing bios start up aswell. i reallly cant find out how to fix this , still running stock speeds didnt touch anything in setup except disabling spread spectrum else i only got 2min uptime and i couldnt write this post in that time plz help.

  • MSI P7N SLI Platinum and OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition

    Hello,
I have a MSI P7N SLI Platinum nForce 750i SLI motherboard and I would like to inquire if it is fully compatible with OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition memory? Firstly, I do not seem to get the correct timings with the default settings, speed is not very good, after 5 hours of running Memtest86+ there was 30 errors. I have never had the memory crash and games seem to run fine, but the memory feels much slower than it should be. Is the memory supposed to work fine with this motherboard and I'm just imagining everything? I don't know if I'm also supposed to be worried by the errors Memtest86+ returned?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Quote from: Del UK on 07-September-08, 05:44:14
    If memtest returned errors, yes
Well, there does not have to be a problem with the memory just because it returned errors. There could be many other explanations why there are errors.
Quote from: Jack the Newbie on 07-September-08, 08:04:45
Jacobl, please post full system specs.  Read the >>Posting Guide<< to get an idea of the details you should provide.
How many modules of what capacity do you have?  What are your current RAM-related BIOS settings?
If you have more than one stick of RAM, please test each stick seperately with memtest86+ and see if the errors are caused by one of the sticks only.  Otherwise there is no way to tell if there is a compatibility problem or just a faulty memory stick.
Please post a link to the OCZ product site and also a screenshot of the CPU-Z "SPD" tab.
    I have this memory: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_sli_ready_edition_4gb_dual_channel.
This is the rest of the components as instructed by the forum post you linked to:
    Intel E8200
    MSI P7N SLI Platinum
    OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition 4GB Dual Channel
    Gigabyte Geforce 8800GT 512MB PCI
    500GB Western Digital SATA
    SATA DVD burner
    Windows XP SP3
    Antec 500W PSU
I usually troubleshoot components step by step - eliminating all possible reasons until I have found the solution. My first step was to post here to find out if there are any known compatibility issues with the motherboard and memory. I adjusted the memory timings with a slight overclock because the motherboard did not load the default timings by default. I will start by adjusting the BIOS settings, check if the memory is inserted into the right DIMM slots and then test the memory sticks one by one. But to answer my own question: I think the motherboard and memory should have no compatibility issues and it must be something else.
Quote from: Freestate on 07-September-08, 23:06:36
I have the OCZ 6400 Fatal1ty modules 2x2 GB that is very similar of the ones you ask.And they are running perfectly but i must set the epp latency and voltaje values in BIOS! The simple modules of ocz are in the memory compatibilty list i thought that the SLI and Falal1ty modules are just the same with a little boost.
I had to set the right timings also. As far as I know, the SLI and Fatal1ty modules are probably the same, just with a little boost. I think it would be very strange if a module with the name "SLI-Ready Edition" and a Nforce 750i motherboard would not be compatible together.
Anyway, any other advice on what steps I should take? I assume by now that the motherboard and memory should work together without problem. Sorry if I started out bad by not following the posting guidelines on the forum.

  • P7N SLI Platinum and power consumption?

In few day I'll get a Msi P7N SLI platinum to replace my Gigabyte P35,I would like to know the power consumption for 750i? Is lower than 780i?
You can see in the picture the 780i 48W and P35 only 16W So big different!!!

  • MSI P7n Sli-Fi + Q9650 OC issues

Alrighty, well i cant seem to get this combination stable here are the specs.
MB - msi p7n sli fi
    CPU - q9650
    RAM - 4gigs of Corsair Dominator pc-8500
    Video - 2 Sli nvidia gts250
at 3ghz on average through Intel Burn Test the q9650 will pull 23gflops, when overclocked to 3.7ghz it will pull 27 this seems as a sign of instability. Battlefield Bad Company 2 will crash occasionally but it will pass 20passes of IBT and 5hours of prime95 blend.
    settings for 3.7ghz (1666fsb x 9)
    cpu vcore + .0250(2 ticks above 0) = 1.275-1.29v seems to have massive v-droop
    Dram 833mhz    voltage 1.95v  6-6-6-18 2t
what is it that is making the clock unstable, the board wont even post at 1600fsb 800mhz ram seems to be a FSB hole =\

I recommend you read the following guide. It may not be the same board, but it covers all the necessary angles to test your components individual capabilities.

  • MSI P7n Sli Fi and my GTX 285

hi, my apologyze for my bad english
i have a problem: i have a XFX GTX285 black edition, the motherboard p7n sli fi, an intel q6600 and 4gb ram ddr2.
when the vga is in the first slot pci ex 16x, the pc don't works, don't boot, i can't enter in bios, no signal on the screen.. but if i put the vga in the second slot, it works.. but not so fine. (more lag in games and benchmark's bad scores).
i'm shure the gtx 285 works (i've tried it in a pc of my friend, it works very well)
i've tried to put my old vga (9800gtx POV) in the first slot pci ex 16x and it works. so.. how is possible? i'm doing something wrong? plis help me.
ah, i have a cooler master gx 750, the problem cannot be the power supplyer.
thanks for your attenction, hoping in a your answer!

Which Nvidia drivers are on your system now?
Suggest you insert the 9800 that works. Then use driver sweeper in safe mode to remove all Nvidia drivers. Load either the 197.45  or a later 260.99 as they worked well with the last 200 series cards.
You can then change the graphics card from the 9800 to the 285.
If you check the MSI GPU support page http://www.msi.com/file/test_report/TR1_1459.pdf  you will see that the MB was never even tested with a 200 series card. I trust that someone else can add further insight into possible causes.

  • Bluescreen problem on MSI P7N SLI PLATINIUM

    Hi!
I tried to look for similar posts here but I couldn't find one so I posted my own:
I bought this system about 6 moths ago. I had similar problems in the beginning too but now I can't find a way to solve them.
When installing XP everything is fine. After installing some drivers (GPU, IDE etc) I start getting this bluescreen note and system reboots. Sometimes it does it in the black loading scene, sometimes when antivirus is starting in windows or sometimes even 30 secs later.
    The bluescreen note is: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(I suppose that has been the issue from start, can't remember...)
Anyway. 6 moths ago when I first installed and had these problems I heard/read somewhere that with this set of mobo and cpu one shouldn't use any of the drivers that were on the cd. I downloaded newer drivers and with some tricks (can't really remember excactly what I did, maybe installed some old driver as well..?) I got it stabilized. At some point I flashed my BIOS to 1.11 (I think) and that might have helped as well.
Then a couple of days ago I flashed my BIOS to 1.2 and the problem occured again. Don't ask me why I flashed.... I'm too embarrased to tell you!
Now I have installed OS again, tried various sets of drivers, tried to manually set RAM speed (though I'm not sure I did it right) but nothing seems to help.
PS. Missing from my list of components is a Creative Live 1024 sound card. This time I might have got the computer stabilized( didn't test it for that long)  but installing the sound card brought the problem back. I need to have a SB to install Avid and thats why I installed that card.

  • P6N SLI Platinum and E8400 Wolfdale

I see on the site that this combination is still "Under Testing", but is anyone here running this combo successfully with the 1.5 Bios?  Also, does anyone know if it will even boot on the 1.4 Bios?  I want to purchase this combo but am worried that if I get a board with 1.4 I won't be able to boot it and I don't have a spare processor to be able to boot and then flash to 1.5 (assuming this will work with 1.5).

To be honest I haven't seen that many doa p6n plat's.
Sure there were some troubles, but mostly they can be fixed, especially with latest bios, everything is fine and dandy with my mobo.
Dont worry and just wait most of the owners are very happy with the p6n sli plat.

  • P7N SLI Platinum warm reboot issue

When entering BIOS settings whereupon it should restart afterwards or when restarting from Windows more often than not my system will not boot. It seems to start to do so but there is no BIOS splash (no video at all) and the hard disk light on the case usually comes on and stays on but sometimes will go out after a short while. Once or twice when setting up this machine I was able to get it to boot from this state using the reset switch on the case. Now it seems that powering down the machine is required and leaving it off for a short while before powering back up - whereupon it boots and then runs fine. This motherboard and processor were an upgrade in this an existing machine which has two IDE hard disks (I did the upgrade at the end of last week). The BIOS is version 1.1 and I have tried disabling all the SATA controllers which I am not using, I have tried clearing the CMOS using the switch on the back and I have also tried the BIOS defaults to no avail. Nothing seems to make a difference. This PC is not overclocked and runs fine but just won't warm restart. Any thoughts anyone?

No, I had not tried experimenting with the memory I had just left everything at stock. I have however just tried your suggestions. I first kept the two sticks in and raised the voltage but no change. So I went back to 1.9V and pulled one stick. Same thing but increasing the voltage to 2.1 did make a difference. It would restart more frequently when exiting the from the BIOS - maybe hanging one in 5 times - but evidently still not right. I even went up to the memory's 2.2V rating but that was no better than at 2.1. So increasing the voltage did make a bit of an improvement.  I swapped over sticks while with just the one plugged in just in case but that made no difference. Putting the second stick back in and that improvement goes away and I am back to where I was. If sometimes it doesn't restart and I go through 3 power cycles with nothing happening then I get the red message 'The previous overclocking had failed and system will restore its default settings' from where it happily boots! Going into the BIOS it's not evident that it has changed anything (apart from when I had the memory voltage higher) which is not really surprising since I have been running with standard settings. Thanks anyway for your suggestion - any other ideas?
Update: Since the memory did seem to make a bit of a difference I tried going from Auto to Manual timings but that had no effect. I have also tried swapping out the Patriot for 2x1GB sticks of Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400 but I still have the same issue. So it seems most likely not the memory.

  • P7N SLI PLATINUM, LAN PORT ISSUE

    I have this weird problem.
All was fine and dandy until my mobo died. I got a RMA, "fixed" board came back worse, second RMA Replacement board worked just fine, with the exception of my current issue....
When ever I first turn on my PC, about 30 to 40 seconds into the boot, my Linksys  Cable Modem/Router combo unit reboots. I have 3 other hardwired machines on this, and it never reboots until I turn on my machine.
In troubleshooting, I completely turned off my wireless in the router settings, hardwired only my PC to it, and it continues to reboot my modem. Like clockwork, every single time.
I have never heard of such a thing.
    Any ideas?

    This is weird.
Try to connect only this system to your modem and see if the problem continues.
