  • P7N SLI PLATINIUM SERIES MS-7380 (bios issues)

OK.... last year in november i posted some issues with bios updateing , i still got em.
I made a windows 98 bootdisk on a usb flash drive to flash my bios , bios event good without any errors while flashing , but im still getting bsod, freeze even when comp is idle , playing small 2d games like warcraft 3 will make system crash within 2-12mins.
i tried everything from voltage ajustments to disabling various stuff like eist/spread/hpet and pressing f4 for hidden cpu features nothing helps , i resently installed a gtx260 card cause i thought that might help , replaced psu with a new one a silverpower 850w , in november when i wrote my last post i had issues getting the ram modules to work properly , and have been battling with this issue since , btw when using program called TEST MY HARDWARE it says bios version -ASUS- 200811119 bios date 11/19/08 same time i swicthed from a asus motherboard to this p7n , whats going on ......
    here´s my spec.

And so you dont ask nope i didnt install a bios from asus i downloaded the http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=8694&type=bios from the msi bios update for my board , but looks like a inprint from my ram/cpu or something is still there ???? from old motherboard any idears would be helpfull since im getting grayhaired with this issue
regards darksinner /ps it also crashes when looking at bios sometimes.....

I did write psu specs silverpower 850w.

bios agent tells me the bios is bad , under nvidia performance monitor no motherboard manufactor is shown.
not that i matters , its clearly bios related , game freezes , comp freezes when idle , and ill say again i tried going back to all the bios msi homepage can provide v.1.0 v.1.1 v.1.2 v.1.3 no matter wich one i take still freezes , run memtest86 no issues , testet ram in other computer no issues , testet a eah3650 ati card , a gf9600 , and finally a gtx260 , ran /sfc scannow no issues , did i mention that is crashes doing bios start up aswell. i reallly cant find out how to fix this , still running stock speeds didnt touch anything in setup except disabling spread spectrum else i only got 2min uptime and i couldnt write this post in that time plz help.

  • MOVED: Overcloking E8400/ Msi P7N sli platinium

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.

    Hello
I have already read lot of review of overcloking. So i decided to overclok too .
For my case i think that i have discover the problem but i am not shure . I have read in a review of the MSI P7N Platnium that the motherbord can not go above 1333Mhz of FSB . I have a E8400 so it's by defautlt at 1300Mhz. What do you think ???
Another question is how can i know the ratio between my FSB and my memory ??? It can help me for the OC beacause i can try to reduce the frequency memory and try to see if i can exeed 1300Mhz of Front Side Bus. In cell menu i have the choise of auto , linked and manuel . When i choose linked i don't know the ratio so i can't know how my memory frequency is calulated when i change the FSB of my CPU.  Try to help me here if someone can .
    Don't forget i have a corsair PC26400 (800Mhz) so i can't go above 400Mhz . My timing according to CPU-Z  in EPP : 4-4-4-12-2T at 2.1V
My last question is i have try to overclok directly in OS whith setFSB . But i don't know the PLL of the Msi P7N sli platinium. Can someone tell me what is it ?? I am trying to know if i can increase the FSB directly in windows Mode. Of course i will change my frequency memory in the BIOS to 275Mhz           ( according to CPUZ it it's possible) to not be limited by my memory and especially because i don't Know the ration DRAM:FSB .  I think it's more easily and more safe .
When i let the bios in auto i read in CPUZ a ration DRAM:FSB = 5:6 which is normal because the bus is at 333Mhz and my memory 400Mhz. But i choose linked i don't know if the ratio is the same when i change the FSB ??
Can you suggest me another program inside of SetFSB ???
If someone tell me that i can't increase 1300Mhz in this motherboard so i will stop here to oc and not loose my time.
    Thanks ...

  • Overcloking E8400/ Msi P7N sli platinium

    Hello Everybody
I am french and i am trying to OC may E8400 to 3g6 for the moment. This is my spec :
    PSU : Thermaltake 750W
    Corsair PC26400 (800Mhz) : Timing : 5-5-5-18 at 1.9V
CPUZ tells me that i have a EPP timing : 4-4-4-12 at 2.1V Do i have to use this timing or the SPD timing ??
    E8400 FSB = 1333Mhz
    So my ratio is FSB/RAM = 5/6
So i am going to the BIOS in Cell Menu . I disabled the DOT , the EINST and the spectrum.
I disabled auto for manuel in cpu clock. I put the FSB to 400Mhz so 1600 in the bios. I change the timing to 5-5-5-18.
After i change the Cpu Voltage to 1.22V , the memory to 2.1V and i increase the VTT , NB Voltage a little . But i dont touch the SB voltage.
I save and when i restart my pc freeze and i have to reset the CMOS . It tells mis that my overcloking as failed but i don't know what is wrong ??? The FSB can go to 1600 without a problem no ?
My second question is how to make the ratio 1:1 . I was thinking that if put the fsb from 333 to 400 i will have  a ratio of 1:1.
    Thanks for the Help.

  • P7N Sli Platinium and E8400 issue

    Hello,
    I just built a new config :
    P7N SLI Platinium
    E8400 (SLB9J)
    DDR 2 1Go*2 Kensington
    Nvidia 9600 GT
    HDD SATA Seagate
And here is what i get :

    Intel Core 2 CPU     E8400  @  3.00GHz, Speed 333x9=2997 MHz
    DRAM Frequency For DDR2 800 (Dual-Channel)
    Initializing USB Controllers ... Done.
    2048 MB OK
Press DEL key to enter Setup Menu, F11 to enter boot menu
    And that's all !!
Can't go further, i tried every slot of ram, they all works, i removed everything, no solution...
I read here and there that it might be a Bios Firmware problem, but is that correct, because i've got no other 775 CPU to boot...
    Thanks for your help!

And last thing, i guess it will work also if i flash with the 1.3 version ? Is there any intrest ?
Yes go for 1.3 it should works.

Or maybe it's possible to flash from a usb key directly from the bios ?
No, but you can do your USB key bootable and proceed with BIOS update.

  • Bluescreen problem on MSI P7N SLI PLATINIUM

    Hi!
I tried to look for similar posts here but I couldn't find one so I posted my own:
I bought this system about 6 moths ago. I had similar problems in the beginning too but now I can't find a way to solve them.
When installing XP everything is fine. After installing some drivers (GPU, IDE etc) I start getting this bluescreen note and system reboots. Sometimes it does it in the black loading scene, sometimes when antivirus is starting in windows or sometimes even 30 secs later.
    The bluescreen note is: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(I suppose that has been the issue from start, can't remember...)
Anyway. 6 moths ago when I first installed and had these problems I heard/read somewhere that with this set of mobo and cpu one shouldn't use any of the drivers that were on the cd. I downloaded newer drivers and with some tricks (can't really remember excactly what I did, maybe installed some old driver as well..?) I got it stabilized. At some point I flashed my BIOS to 1.11 (I think) and that might have helped as well.
Then a couple of days ago I flashed my BIOS to 1.2 and the problem occured again. Don't ask me why I flashed.... I'm too embarrased to tell you!
Now I have installed OS again, tried various sets of drivers, tried to manually set RAM speed (though I'm not sure I did it right) but nothing seems to help.
PS. Missing from my list of components is a Creative Live 1024 sound card. This time I might have got the computer stabilized( didn't test it for that long)  but installing the sound card brought the problem back. I need to have a SB to install Avid and thats why I installed that card.

  • Msi p7n sli platinum wont overclock in bios

I am a newbie to this board  first off I have a pentium d 935 installed in the mobo  and I am locked out of the bios setting for fsb adjustment   when I try to change anything in the fsb my bios freeze's up and I have to reboot the system.
also I can overclock to 4.0 gig with 250 mhz fsb when I use the duel core center utility, and cpuid shows it at that as well.  my computer works like a dream when I use the duel core utility,  I dont understand why the utility can change the settings but I can not do it in the bios, when i try to change the setting in the bios it just freezes up   it dont even show a change in the numbers it just freeze up.
    Any Idea's?   bad mobo?

    Hi,
please provide FULL system specifications.  Read the >>Posting Guide<< to get an idea of what we need to know.  Also, please don't forget to mention your current BIOS Version.

  • P7n sli bios upgrade problem

hi every user , plz help me. I bought P7n SLI Platinum 5 month ago with C2D E8400 (E0). so i upgrade to bios v1.3 and i can use me cpu. everything fine but when i run cpuz v1.45 it show chipset number is "650i" not "750i". anybody know how to correct it. but everything is fine no problem occur. i just want to change to 750i. plz help

It's more than likely that version of CPUz is too old(the sb750 chipset isn't identified until 1.47). Download the latest version, 1.51.  Run that and see what is stated.

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=120513.0
I've carried out the same out-of-box tests indicated in 119615.0 without success.
    Question:
Is it possible to force the existing system to boot to the FDD where the BIOS upgrade (v 1.2) would be stored ready for use? If yes, kindly outline the necessary steps to be carried out and please point me to the correct BIOS upgrade link for this configuration. If all else fails, MOBO can be exchanged but if BIOS can be upgraded via this method, I prefer this approach. I don't have access to an alternative CPU, so that approach is far less than ideal. Thanks for your assistance.

Is it possible to force the existing system to boot to the FDD where the BIOS upgrade (v 1.2) would be stored ready for use?
Yes, in theory it is possible to try an AMI BIOS Recovery Flash. However, in case their are other problems that are not visible because of the current problem, it is rather risky.  If there is a memory problem or something similar that is currently undetected, the system may crash during flashing and your board will be rendered useless.
    Quote
f yes, kindly outline the necessary steps
    What you need:
    - you need an internal floppy drive (properly connected to the board and 100% intact)
    - you need an empty & formated floppy disk (make sure you check it for errors before you use it)
    - you need a PS/2 Keyboard
    What you have to do:
    - download the latest BIOS-Archive file from here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1373
    - extract the BIOS File (e.g. A7380NMS.120), rename it to AMIBOOT.ROM [not AMIBOOT.120.ROM] and copy it to the floppy disk
    - insert the prepared floppy disk into the floppy drive attached to the P7N SLI Platinum and Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU
    - start the system and hit CTRL + HOME to force the system into recovery mode
If that does not work, try a different floppy drive & disk.  Don't complain is the system crashes during flashing if the recovery flash starts (system stability is your responsibility).
If you can't get the recovery routine to start and read the AMIBOOT.ROM file from the floppy disk, you need to install a supported processor.

  • Do I need to flash bios P7N SLI platinum CPU upgrade from E8200 to QX9650?

    Hi everybody,
just registered and new to this forum. Just want to ask if anybody here have any idea if there are compatablity issues and do I need to flash BIOS of my M/B whenever I upgrade my CPU from E8200 to QX9560? my rig specs are listed below:
CPU - E8200 core 2 Duo (planning to upgrade to QX9560)
    M/B - MSI P7N SLI Platinum
    RAM - 4 X 1g DDR2 800mhz Kingston
    PSU - 1000w Coolermaster
    VGA - 2 x Nvidia GTX285 (SLIED)
    DVD/R/W - 2
Any suggestions and recommendation are very much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    znarf

Do you really mean QX9560? I can't seem to find it on the motherboard's support list.
If you meant the QX9650, it says it requires BIOS v1.0, which it should have already come with. Check out in CPU-Z what BIOS version you currently have.

  • P7N SLI Platinum Unstable with over 2GB ram and/or dual channel memory on.

Hello need some help or to report something to MSI regarding blue screens, freezes when booting Vista 64 (SP1 + all fixes installed) with more then 2GB ram.  Single channel mode works (either 1 stick of 2 GB or 3 sticks of 2GB) and is rock stable.  Booting with 2 x 2 or 4 x 2 yields instability and blue screens.
I read over Microsoft's hotfix KB929777 however it appears this patch was applied during SP1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777 - when I attempted to apply this hotfix I got the message this update does not apply to your system.
Memory tested in other gaming system using 4 sticks of G.Skill 1066 DDR2 ram and still have the same issues.  Other forums like Evga.com, Tom's hardware and 411overkill.com tend to suggest some problem with this new bios version 2.0, written by Nvidia.  Some others mention possibly an Nvidia nforce driver issue.
Therefore, under duress during testing - with 1 stick or 3 sticks of ram, all tests perfect and passes all stability tests, good marks in Sandra, plays any game.  With 2 or 4 sticks of ram, very unstable won't stay up but for seconds.
Any ideas?  (Tested 7 ways until Sunday!)
My other rig, rocks solid and stable with Vista 64....  It's the Evga new mainboard 780i with triple SLI (132-CK-NF78-A1), 8gb of Gskill 1066ddr2, MSI 8800GT (x2 sli mode) Q6600 @ 3.2 ghz - Raid 0 on dual WD caviar 640 gb/sata 3.0gb/sec.  Seasonic 700w p/s.  8gb of memory and not a hiccup.  Ram 2.0 volts, cpu @ 1.36v.  Will handle the memory from both systems with out fault.
Considering I can swap memory back and forth and confirm it's not the sticks, swap graphics boards (own 3 of them!) and rule out that....
    Fyi.  Any help is appreciated!

Dump question, but have you pickup the correct update e.g. for 64bit? ==> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=91672C7C-614B-404C-850C-377541E93C18&displaylang=en
"This comes inside SP1 for vista 64, as noted with my other system during the build. "
    Better double check it.
Install all four memory sticks and do a memory check with >>Memtest86<< 1st, ensure that no error(s) will comes during testing.
    Also how about that?:
Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 07-April-08, 23:55:36
Remove your OC then see how its goes.
"When the system boots in single channel mode (only 2 or 6gb of ram meaning 1 or 3 sticks installed into the 4 slots) its' rock stable.  When it boots into dual channel mode (2 x 2 sticks or 2 x 4 sticks) extemely unstable. "
That means, timings are too tight, or they need a bit more vcore help, or some of the memory stick has failure.
    "MSI P7N SLI Platinum - MS-7380 - Bios 2.0 on Vista Ultimate 64-bit - all updated."
That BIOS is not for your board, you should use 1.xx

  • Help with ram slots on MSI P7N SLI PLATINUM

    rig config:
    MSI P7N SLI PLATINUM (MS-7380)
    bios version: 1.3v
    Q6600 quard core 2.66GHz
    Zotac modded 9800GTX+ amped version
    2x2 Gb DDR2 800MHz Kingston
500 watt (absolute) power supply (taken form an old HP workstation)
    windows 7 X64
    Everything's on stock setting
Its been almost 1 & 1/2 years since i bought this rig, and from first month itself i have been having problem with the ram. The problem is not with the sticks, its with the ram slots. There are different things that happen. Sometimes when i boot my system:
    1) either, it wont start, i.e. no boot screen.
    2) It will load upto windows startup screen, crash and restart in an infinite loop.
    3) It will load windows, then crash after sometime.
    4) If i run any memory diagnostic, it will give errors.
At these times, i take out my 2 ram sticks, tinker with them, place them in different combination of ram slots, try push them in, in a certain way, keep trying until it yields and it boots up again ( generally a process of 1/2 an hr to an hr). After this my system will work fine ( no errors on any memory diagnostic) and boot properly for a week or 2, maybe even a month, but then again the same problem happens. I know for sure that there is no problem with my dimms (have checked them in other system and they work fine), its something to do with ram slots, or memory bus-controller structure.
Recently the problem happened again, though my tinkering didn't help. My system only boots up if i place any of the ram sticks in the 3rd slot (the 1st orange one). It wont work for any other slot and neither will it work if i place both of the sticks together. I have tried resetting my bios as well cmos settings, but it has not helped. My mb is still in warranty, but if i give it for repair, it will be gone for a good month or so, which doesn't go well with me. If someone has any suggestions, or a way out, it will be highly appreciated. Please help!

yes the psu has a single +12v rail with 21A rating, but somehow i don't feel the problem is because of it. When my system successfully boots, it works properly. I can play or work on high performance softwares for any number of hours without fail, which ought not to happen if the psu is bad.
Hmm, you are ignoring the possibility that your PSU is "flaky" (that's a technical term)!!!! You've never had any gizmo where "sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work"?
If you don't want to buy a new PSU then at least beg-borrow-steal another one and see if your symptoms change.

I just purchased the p7n yesterday. I had a P6N SLi-V2 before and wasn't able to get over the 3.0 GHz (stable)! I thought the P7N will a much better overclocker but find myself having a really hard time get it over 3.0 GHz again!?
Tried different versions of the bios (1.0,1.1,P04 and now 2.0) with no succes! Maybe anyone can help me out here and maybe share some bios setup? Will really appreciate it
    My rig:
    Q6600 C2Q G0-stepping
    Tuniq Tower 120 CPU cooler
    P7N SLI Platinum
    1 x 2 GB TakeMS PC6400 DDR2 RAM
    2 x MSI NX8800GT OC 512MB
    1 x 200 GB + 1 x 250 GB HD
    Cooler Master Extreme Power 650w

Man, this turns out  to be like a disaster :S:S I tried everything and now it won't even be stable @ 3.0 GHz with vcore 1.35, vram 2.2, fsb vtt 1.45, nb 1.4 and SB 1.5 (random reboots like crazy!). I have the intention to get some better OC's going from a p6n sli v2 to this board and it's even doing WORSE??????? The only weakpoint I can think about is my single stick 2GB TakeMS pc6400, but I never go over the stock speed of 800 MHz, so can that still be a bottleneck even at stock speed or even lower?
    Any help will be welcome...
I found out the hard way.........if you are not running memory from the QVL  list with this mobo, you will have problems with it. I was running mine with team xtreem 3-3-3-8 microns and all I had was errors and corruption when I overclocked. I had to reformat and switch back to the performance bios and now running corsair dominators 3-4-3-9 and this is the first set that can run at 1200 mhz at 5-5-5-18 2T 2.2 v with the fsb at 1600. I 'm using an E8400. I have read that using non approved memory and this board will not overclock properly.  The only non approved memory that works in my system is geil ultra 8000's and these are the originals running D9GCT's. For stability you should try OCZ, Corsair, Mushkin, Buffalo, Kingston. I have also had problems with crucial ballistix as I've found most of there modules are in someway defective and or not compatible with MSI and have rma multiple sets. I have a previous post going from P6N FI to P7N and have listed all the  memory that I have tried on this board. OCZ and corsair work the best and geil can be used but will not oc past 1142 mhz with stability. I think after a few bios updates this board will be able to use more different types of memory without stability issues.

  • Problem with my p7n sli platinum

    Hello,
i just bought the P7N SLI Platinum for my new system and use an old ATI X1800XT as my gpu.
after finished installing all the hardware, then i tried to install a fesh copy of windows xp...
the problem is, every time my computer tried to login into the windows.. a blue screen will appear..
i suspect the problem is due to the x1800xt..therefore i tried to use it with my old intel motherboard but it can login into windows perfectly well..
does anyone know what the cause of this problem? is it because i'm using ati card with nvidia chipset?
    please everyone help me!!

    STOP: 0x0000001E
        * There is insufficient disk space on the drive on which you installed Windows.
        * There is an outdated or incompatible third-party driver (or drivers) installed on your computer -- for example a faulty video driver.
        * There are system BIOS incompatibilities.
Finally, my system is now working perfectly but I'm still not sure what is the cause for all of this madness.
I didn't change any of the hardware or the drivers.
I don't think this is because of the insufficient disk space because after many series of failure with this board, I have tried to install a fresh windows copy using the same hard drive with my previous motherboard and everything seems to be running smoothly...it could finish the installation process..and safely loading into windows...
Then when I tried with this board again, still no improvement at all...i tried again..again...and again...until i was frustrated enough to made some random changes in the bios settings and FINALLY...it works!!..
I have no idea what were the changes that I've made in the bios...maybe it was just my luck....but I do notice the change in my cpu vcore..before this, it was running at 3.0GHz with default vcore of 1.080v...but now, the default vcore has suddenly changed to 1.250v with the same frequency of 3.0Ghz...and I couldn't find any way to return the voltage back as before..is this normal? I thought E8400 with E0 stepping should have lower vcore...isn't it?
