P7N SLI Platinum - SATA Boot RAID issue

Hello Folks... I posted this issue on another thread (but, with different subject) as a follow up issue. I figured it might be better if this issue has it's own thread.. so, here it goes
Now, this is an upgrade for me.... from my previous MOBO. My boot drive in the old MOBO was RAIDed (RAID 0). Both old and new MOBO have nVidia RAID.. do, I don't think there is any compatibility issue here and the new MOBO detects the old RAID with  no issues too.
So, now, I will have to RAID my drives again and run Win XP repair. I was able to RAID my drives and all good... now, I went into Windows installation and did F6 to install NVIDIA Raid.... but, here is my problem, when the prompt asks me to input the floppy drive, and when I did it.... it re-prompts me to put the floppy drive again... I see that the floppy drive is read... but, for some reason it doesn't detect the files in there properly....  I downloaded nVidia C72+MCP55 SATA RAID / AHCI Driver (For floppy driver) for windows xp 32-bit and copied the sataraid folder contents into the floppy. For some reason the files are not detected at all...
Anybody experienced this problem? what could be the problem here?

  • MSI P7N SLI Platinum Sata Controller failing?

I have this problem, at first I thought that my oldest hard disk drive was dead. What happened was the computer suddenly froze with constant buzzing coming from the speakers, as I restarted one of the hard disks was not in the list anymore, just as if I'd unplugged it except I didn't. I just thought the disk had died and removed it from the computer.
A few days later the computer froze lik this again, except now it didn't find the system disk and I couldn't start Windows. I was rather pissed since I had never before had a hard disk fail before I replaced it for a larger one and suddenly 2 disks were dead in a few days. But I didn't stop troubleshooting right there and tried switching the sata connectors and then suddenly all the disks were found again, but for some reason the Virus protection said all the system files were infected and qurantined them. I just had to restore to a restore point to fix it.
That worked for a few days, or until the last shut down when it was forever at "Turning off". After 30 minutes I just switched it off. Then the same thing with the booting. Then I disconnected the sata connectors from 2 of the 3 drives installed and left only the system disk connected. There have now 3 days passed without problems.
So I started asking around and trying to identify the cause and so far no one I have talked to has an idea, but I think that either the boards sata controller is failing or, what I consider unlikely but possible, that one of my hard drives is too big.
I have one 2TB disk connected and this seems to have started shortly after I installed it. I would blame it on a faulty hard disk but find that unlikely since it's randow wich of my hard drives stops working, if the newest one, the 2TB, would be faulty, that would be the one always dissapearing.
What makes me think that it might be a too large hdd is the fact that for the 1.3 BIOS update for this motherboard it is noted that support for 1000gb hard disks is added. This leads me to the possibility that a 2000gb hard disk is not supported by this motherboard.
Then I start brainstorming again, if that were the case, why does it appear normally in the bios and work properly in Windows as the full 2000gb it is, if it's not supported by the motherboard?
So basicly, my question is this: What could cause the computer losing hard disks at random and then finding them all again like nothing happened if I just open the case up and switch which sata connector is connected to which hard disk drive? But still work for numerous restarts and turn offs and then suddenly fail again?

Check the cables.  Make sure they are well seated.  Also, you might try new SATA cables.  Would you also post a complete list of your system...look at my signatures and read the >>Posting Guide<< as a guide.
I will try putting in new cables. The ones I have now are all secure and well seated, however I don't know if one of them is failing so I will replace them all to eliminate/confirm the theory.
I have added my system to my signature. I will post updates, however since it's random at what time this happens and in one case the computer was good for over a week, I can't be sure when I can confirm if this fixes things or not.

  • New P7N SLI Platinum Boot Issue with PS/2 Keyboard [Solved but RAID problem now]

This issue taken me back !!!! Never thought I might face issue with a PS/2 Keyboard.
Here it is.. I just assembled my new system...
    P7N SLI Platinum Motherboard
    E8400 CPU
EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600 GT Video Card
    Creative Soundblaster Audio Card
So, before I boot, I connected good old PS/2 Keyboard. The POST Screen comes up that says Press DEL to enter BIOS Setup... but then, it reboots.. indefinitely... I have no idea why it does that. However, if I boot the PC with no PS/2 Keyboard connected, POST screen comes up and that's it.. (no reboot). So, you see, I cannot proceed further in anyway.... I cannot go beyond POST without a keyboard, but then with the keyboard it reboots indefinitely... kinda catch 22 situation
Any suggestion / ideas that anyone can offer here???

Hello Folks... it took long time to "solve the issue that had to begin with"....
I purchased a cheapo Celeron processor to get into  the BIOS and update it... but it didn't even work... I couldn't boot at all. So, I called MSI and they asked me to RMA it. They replaced my MOBO with the latest BIOS - which was good news
So, now, I'm able to boot  - good news...
Now, this is an upgrade for me.... from my previous MOBO. My boot drive was RAIDed (RAID 0). Now, here I am stuck again....

  • RAID 0 on my board (P7N SLI Platinum)

Hi guys, I'm gonna be honest and admit I'm a beginner when it comes to these kinds of things.
Now thats out of the way, I've got two drives of the same size, revision and manufacturer, so I wanted to set them up in RAID 0 for faster load times and such. Though I don't have any idea where to start with this..
I have Vista 64bit Home Premium,
    MSI P7N SLI Platinum
    Q6600
    8800GT SLI
    2x 500gb SATA Seagate Barracuda 7200.11
    4gb of RAM
I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to give me a simple, easy to follow step-by-step process for setting up a RAID 0 system. I need help with the BIOS settings, the drivers and where to get them, and anything else (intel matrix if needed??)
The manual doesn't mention how to do it, well..if it does I dont understand it, also I couldn't find any help on google so I thought I would come to a place where people will know about these things.
It's going to be for gaming and general windows use so I want to it to be as performance orientated as possible - I daren't try myself as I don't have the ability to fix it if I really mess it up  I will seriously appreciate it if you can help me!
    Thanks

here is how I did it:
enter the bois by pressing del, then go to integrated peripherals then to on-chip ata devices. You will see there a setting called raid mode it is set to ide change that to raid mode. Now enable sata1 and sata 2 oh make sure u drives is on sata1 & 2 . now save and exit. As the pc boot up there will a option to press f10 to create the raid. once in the utility change the mode from mirror to stripping(raid 0) , at the bottom of the screen you will see 2 boxes one on the left hand side will have your drives in it now move to the drive with the arrow keys and move both to the right hand side once there press ctrl+x to create the raid or read at the bottom of the screen for the options.
Once your is created load vista normally and then when it asks to what drive u want to install it will be blank remove the vista cd and insert your driver cd for vista. Now click on load then browser then navigate to E:\ChipSet\Nvidia\Vista64\C72+MCP55\IDE\WinVista64\sataraid and click ok a list of driver will appear select all and click next. After this u will be taken back to the screen where you will now see your hard drive click on it and install vista like normal
Hope this was help full as i do it this way

  • Strange booting problem on P7N SLI Platinum

I wonder if someone here can shed any light on this issue that is driving me mad... I currently have Windows 7 32 bit installed on my HTPC. The following is the specs of the kit:
    P7N SLI Platinum (BIOS 1.3)
    5 Gb Ram (odd I know  )
    Nvidia 9600GT 1Gb RAM
    1.5 Tb hard drive
    LG GH22L DVD-ROM drive
The problem is the following: I want to upgrade/change Windows 7 to 64bit (otherwise I can only use 3Gb of RAM) but when I try to boot up from the DVD-ROM the system briefly checks the drive and then continues to boot up from the HD. I have changed the boot order prioirity to boot from the DVD first and then the HD. The Windows 7 DVD will boot up on other PCs so it is not the media. I have gone as far as connecting an USB DVD-ROM, changing the boot priority on the BIOS to boot up from the USB device but the bl%%dy thing continues to boot up from the HD.
It gets stranger still... I have changed the boot order priority and excluded the HD from the list and chose "no" from the "boot from other devices" option, and the HD still boots instead of the DVD-ROM!!!!
In desperation I used all the entries on the boot priority menu and chose the DVD-ROM drive on all of them (i.e. no HD) and still the HD boots up.
I give up - any ideas?

Pull a drive from one of the other PCs where the disc works and install that one onto this system you're asking about.  Check to ensure that the DVD drive is first boot source.  Try to boot.  You could also do this--as the system boots, tap f11 repeatedly and a boot menu should appear....choose the DVD drive.  Let us know what is going on.
I tried the F11 tip (thanks very useful) unfortunately it did not work either. I opened the HTPC and disconnected the HD and re-booted, the damn thing did boot from the DVD-ROM then as one would expect when the it is the only drive... What follows is as strange as the original problem - I reconnected the HD and voila the DVD-ROM booted!!! I am installing the OS as I write. Unfortunately I'm still at a loss as to why I had a problem in the first place and I will not know until I complete the installation if it is fixed for good or not.
    Thanks for your help anyways.

  • Run SATA and EIDE HDs (P7N SLI Platinum)

What would be the BIOS setup and cableing to run an EIDE drive as D: when the primary boot drive (C:) is a SATA? [P7N SLI Platinum].
BTW: from an earlier post, new computer up and running- I cloned my EIDE HD on old system to new SATA HD. Installed SATA HD into new system, booted XP CD and ran the Repair (the later one). Booted into Safe-Mode and loaded nVidi Ethernet Drivers, rebooted, reactivate and all is working.

Drive letters are not assigned by BIOS or hardware, but by the operating system.  If you install the operating system on the SATA Drive, it should automatically become drive C:.  If you want to make that automatism faik-safe, simply unplug the IDE Drive when you are installing the operating system on the SATA Hard Drive,

  • P7N SLi Platinum - Network & (large) Hard Drive Issues

Hello, everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me out here (though I suspect I'm screwed). Several nights ago, I was sitting at my machine playing some Tera when suddenly I got a blue screen. They've been a pretty rare occurrence for this system, but I realize that from time to time, they happen, so I wasn't all that concerned. I just rebooted and figured everything would be back to normal. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Windows (7 - 64bit) took a noticeably longer time to pull up the full desktop and I noticed an error condition on the network icon in the system tray.
Naturally, I pulled up my network settings and Windows told me that I was on an "Unidentified Network" with "No network access." I figured it was possible that I'd nudged the cable or something, so I looked at it and noticed that, instead of a flashing green light on the Ethernet port, it was flashing orange (this board does normally flash green, right?). I changed ports on the switch and when that didn't help, I changed cables. Still nothing. I installed the latest nForce drivers and still nothing.
That's about the time I noticed another problem. I pulled up Windows Explorer to look for something on my data drive (3TB Seagate) and after an inordinately long time, I realized that it wasn't going to come up. I rebooted again and went into the BIOS settings and, to my horror, discovered that the BIOS, which was showing the drive at its correct capacity before, was now showing it as 800GB.
I have NO idea what happened. It's possible there was a power surge (there was a storm in the distance), but the only two things that are affected are the network and that one hard drive. I updated to the latest BIOS and that didn't help at all, either. So... any ideas? Or am I just going to have to track down a new MB?
    Thanks,
    Sam

Far as I know, that board is not capable of properly supporting a HDD over 1TB?

You can try a power off, PSU power cord pulled, battery removed, CMOS clear and settings reset.

  • P7N SLI Platinum Unstable with over 2GB ram and/or dual channel memory on.

Hello need some help or to report something to MSI regarding blue screens, freezes when booting Vista 64 (SP1 + all fixes installed) with more then 2GB ram.  Single channel mode works (either 1 stick of 2 GB or 3 sticks of 2GB) and is rock stable.  Booting with 2 x 2 or 4 x 2 yields instability and blue screens.
I read over Microsoft's hotfix KB929777 however it appears this patch was applied during SP1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777 - when I attempted to apply this hotfix I got the message this update does not apply to your system.
Memory tested in other gaming system using 4 sticks of G.Skill 1066 DDR2 ram and still have the same issues.  Other forums like Evga.com, Tom's hardware and 411overkill.com tend to suggest some problem with this new bios version 2.0, written by Nvidia.  Some others mention possibly an Nvidia nforce driver issue.
Therefore, under duress during testing - with 1 stick or 3 sticks of ram, all tests perfect and passes all stability tests, good marks in Sandra, plays any game.  With 2 or 4 sticks of ram, very unstable won't stay up but for seconds.
Any ideas?  (Tested 7 ways until Sunday!)
My other rig, rocks solid and stable with Vista 64....  It's the Evga new mainboard 780i with triple SLI (132-CK-NF78-A1), 8gb of Gskill 1066ddr2, MSI 8800GT (x2 sli mode) Q6600 @ 3.2 ghz - Raid 0 on dual WD caviar 640 gb/sata 3.0gb/sec.  Seasonic 700w p/s.  8gb of memory and not a hiccup.  Ram 2.0 volts, cpu @ 1.36v.  Will handle the memory from both systems with out fault.
Considering I can swap memory back and forth and confirm it's not the sticks, swap graphics boards (own 3 of them!) and rule out that....
    Fyi.  Any help is appreciated!

Dump question, but have you pickup the correct update e.g. for 64bit? ==> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=91672C7C-614B-404C-850C-377541E93C18&displaylang=en
"This comes inside SP1 for vista 64, as noted with my other system during the build. "
    Better double check it.
Install all four memory sticks and do a memory check with >>Memtest86<< 1st, ensure that no error(s) will comes during testing.
    Also how about that?:
Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 07-April-08, 23:55:36
Remove your OC then see how its goes.
"When the system boots in single channel mode (only 2 or 6gb of ram meaning 1 or 3 sticks installed into the 4 slots) its' rock stable.  When it boots into dual channel mode (2 x 2 sticks or 2 x 4 sticks) extemely unstable. "
That means, timings are too tight, or they need a bit more vcore help, or some of the memory stick has failure.
    "MSI P7N SLI Platinum - MS-7380 - Bios 2.0 on Vista Ultimate 64-bit - all updated."
That BIOS is not for your board, you should use 1.xx

    Hello,
I have a mainboard MSI P7N SLI Platinum that doesn't boot. I connected it out of the case, tried different CPU's, different PSU's, different graphic cards, different memory modules ... all without success.  When I connect the PSU a red LED goes on, when I try to boot it a blue LED goes on and the CPU cooler starts turning, nothing else happens, no beeps, nothing on the monitor ...
I also tried downloading the latest bios, put it on a floppy and named it AMIBOOT.ROM, than connecting an internal floppy drive and press ctrl-home while powering on (found this hint on the forum).  Nothing happens, nothing on monitor, no activity on floppy drive (even tried different floppy drives and cables  )
Does anyone know something else I can try?

I had this same exact problem today. All seemed to work but nothing on monitor.  I first thought my graphics card is the issue, but the fan was turning so i decided not to think that was it.
I had a dvi to vga adapter on the other end of the  graphics card cable, so i was thinking if that was the issue. I changed the cable to dvi/dvi and WOW, it worked!!!
I dont know if this is the MSI mother board issue or my graphics card CLUB 3D 8800gt, but that fixed it and it has been on for 5 hours now.
But what i came here to ask was the on board LEDS. Is it normal to have RED and BLUE led?
The red led looks like it's a wrning of some kind but it comes on when you turn on the PSU.  So is it ok to have these lighting?

  • MSI P7N SLI Platinum and OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition

    Hello,
I have a MSI P7N SLI Platinum nForce 750i SLI motherboard and I would like to inquire if it is fully compatible with OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition memory? Firstly, I do not seem to get the correct timings with the default settings, speed is not very good, after 5 hours of running Memtest86+ there was 30 errors. I have never had the memory crash and games seem to run fine, but the memory feels much slower than it should be. Is the memory supposed to work fine with this motherboard and I'm just imagining everything? I don't know if I'm also supposed to be worried by the errors Memtest86+ returned?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Quote from: Del UK on 07-September-08, 05:44:14
    If memtest returned errors, yes
Well, there does not have to be a problem with the memory just because it returned errors. There could be many other explanations why there are errors.
Quote from: Jack the Newbie on 07-September-08, 08:04:45
Jacobl, please post full system specs.  Read the >>Posting Guide<< to get an idea of the details you should provide.
How many modules of what capacity do you have?  What are your current RAM-related BIOS settings?
If you have more than one stick of RAM, please test each stick seperately with memtest86+ and see if the errors are caused by one of the sticks only.  Otherwise there is no way to tell if there is a compatibility problem or just a faulty memory stick.
Please post a link to the OCZ product site and also a screenshot of the CPU-Z "SPD" tab.
    I have this memory: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_sli_ready_edition_4gb_dual_channel.
This is the rest of the components as instructed by the forum post you linked to:
    Intel E8200
    MSI P7N SLI Platinum
    OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition 4GB Dual Channel
    Gigabyte Geforce 8800GT 512MB PCI
    500GB Western Digital SATA
    SATA DVD burner
    Windows XP SP3
    Antec 500W PSU
I usually troubleshoot components step by step - eliminating all possible reasons until I have found the solution. My first step was to post here to find out if there are any known compatibility issues with the motherboard and memory. I adjusted the memory timings with a slight overclock because the motherboard did not load the default timings by default. I will start by adjusting the BIOS settings, check if the memory is inserted into the right DIMM slots and then test the memory sticks one by one. But to answer my own question: I think the motherboard and memory should have no compatibility issues and it must be something else.
Quote from: Freestate on 07-September-08, 23:06:36
I have the OCZ 6400 Fatal1ty modules 2x2 GB that is very similar of the ones you ask.And they are running perfectly but i must set the epp latency and voltaje values in BIOS! The simple modules of ocz are in the memory compatibilty list i thought that the SLI and Falal1ty modules are just the same with a little boost.
I had to set the right timings also. As far as I know, the SLI and Fatal1ty modules are probably the same, just with a little boost. I think it would be very strange if a module with the name "SLI-Ready Edition" and a Nforce 750i motherboard would not be compatible together.
Anyway, any other advice on what steps I should take? I assume by now that the motherboard and memory should work together without problem. Sorry if I started out bad by not following the posting guidelines on the forum.

  • Help with ram slots on MSI P7N SLI PLATINUM

    rig config:
    MSI P7N SLI PLATINUM (MS-7380)
    bios version: 1.3v
    Q6600 quard core 2.66GHz
    Zotac modded 9800GTX+ amped version
    2x2 Gb DDR2 800MHz Kingston
500 watt (absolute) power supply (taken form an old HP workstation)
    windows 7 X64
    Everything's on stock setting
Its been almost 1 & 1/2 years since i bought this rig, and from first month itself i have been having problem with the ram. The problem is not with the sticks, its with the ram slots. There are different things that happen. Sometimes when i boot my system:
    1) either, it wont start, i.e. no boot screen.
    2) It will load upto windows startup screen, crash and restart in an infinite loop.
    3) It will load windows, then crash after sometime.
    4) If i run any memory diagnostic, it will give errors.
At these times, i take out my 2 ram sticks, tinker with them, place them in different combination of ram slots, try push them in, in a certain way, keep trying until it yields and it boots up again ( generally a process of 1/2 an hr to an hr). After this my system will work fine ( no errors on any memory diagnostic) and boot properly for a week or 2, maybe even a month, but then again the same problem happens. I know for sure that there is no problem with my dimms (have checked them in other system and they work fine), its something to do with ram slots, or memory bus-controller structure.
Recently the problem happened again, though my tinkering didn't help. My system only boots up if i place any of the ram sticks in the 3rd slot (the 1st orange one). It wont work for any other slot and neither will it work if i place both of the sticks together. I have tried resetting my bios as well cmos settings, but it has not helped. My mb is still in warranty, but if i give it for repair, it will be gone for a good month or so, which doesn't go well with me. If someone has any suggestions, or a way out, it will be highly appreciated. Please help!

yes the psu has a single +12v rail with 21A rating, but somehow i don't feel the problem is because of it. When my system successfully boots, it works properly. I can play or work on high performance softwares for any number of hours without fail, which ought not to happen if the psu is bad.
Hmm, you are ignoring the possibility that your PSU is "flaky" (that's a technical term)!!!! You've never had any gizmo where "sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work"?
If you don't want to buy a new PSU then at least beg-borrow-steal another one and see if your symptoms change.

Well, first of all, I am new here, so hello to you all guys!
I just purchased the p7n yesterday. I had a P6N SLi-V2 before and wasn't able to get over the 3.0 GHz (stable)! I thought the P7N will a much better overclocker but find myself having a really hard time get it over 3.0 GHz again!?
Tried different versions of the bios (1.0,1.1,P04 and now 2.0) with no succes! Maybe anyone can help me out here and maybe share some bios setup? Will really appreciate it

Man, this turns out  to be like a disaster :S:S I tried everything and now it won't even be stable @ 3.0 GHz with vcore 1.35, vram 2.2, fsb vtt 1.45, nb 1.4 and SB 1.5 (random reboots like crazy!). I have the intention to get some better OC's going from a p6n sli v2 to this board and it's even doing WORSE??????? The only weakpoint I can think about is my single stick 2GB TakeMS pc6400, but I never go over the stock speed of 800 MHz, so can that still be a bottleneck even at stock speed or even lower?
    Any help will be welcome...
I found out the hard way.........if you are not running memory from the QVL  list with this mobo, you will have problems with it. I was running mine with team xtreem 3-3-3-8 microns and all I had was errors and corruption when I overclocked. I had to reformat and switch back to the performance bios and now running corsair dominators 3-4-3-9 and this is the first set that can run at 1200 mhz at 5-5-5-18 2T 2.2 v with the fsb at 1600. I 'm using an E8400. I have read that using non approved memory and this board will not overclock properly.  The only non approved memory that works in my system is geil ultra 8000's and these are the originals running D9GCT's. For stability you should try OCZ, Corsair, Mushkin, Buffalo, Kingston. I have also had problems with crucial ballistix as I've found most of there modules are in someway defective and or not compatible with MSI and have rma multiple sets. I have a previous post going from P6N FI to P7N and have listed all the  memory that I have tried on this board. OCZ and corsair work the best and geil can be used but will not oc past 1142 mhz with stability. I think after a few bios updates this board will be able to use more different types of memory without stability issues.

  • MSI P7N SLI Platinum - no POST, how to use Floppy BIOS upgrade

    Component Summary:

Same problem is occurring as outlined in the following threads:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119615.0
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=120513.0
I've carried out the same out-of-box tests indicated in 119615.0 without success.
    Question:
Is it possible to force the existing system to boot to the FDD where the BIOS upgrade (v 1.2) would be stored ready for use? If yes, kindly outline the necessary steps to be carried out and please point me to the correct BIOS upgrade link for this configuration. If all else fails, MOBO can be exchanged but if BIOS can be upgraded via this method, I prefer this approach. I don't have access to an alternative CPU, so that approach is far less than ideal. Thanks for your assistance.

Is it possible to force the existing system to boot to the FDD where the BIOS upgrade (v 1.2) would be stored ready for use?
Yes, in theory it is possible to try an AMI BIOS Recovery Flash. However, in case their are other problems that are not visible because of the current problem, it is rather risky.  If there is a memory problem or something similar that is currently undetected, the system may crash during flashing and your board will be rendered useless.

f yes, kindly outline the necessary steps
    What you need:
    - you need an internal floppy drive (properly connected to the board and 100% intact)
    - you need an empty & formated floppy disk (make sure you check it for errors before you use it)
    - you need a PS/2 Keyboard
    What you have to do:
    - download the latest BIOS-Archive file from here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1373
    - extract the BIOS File (e.g. A7380NMS.120), rename it to AMIBOOT.ROM [not AMIBOOT.120.ROM] and copy it to the floppy disk
    - insert the prepared floppy disk into the floppy drive attached to the P7N SLI Platinum and Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU
    - start the system and hit CTRL + HOME to force the system into recovery mode
If that does not work, try a different floppy drive & disk.  Don't complain is the system crashes during flashing if the recovery flash starts (system stability is your responsibility).
If you can't get the recovery routine to start and read the AMIBOOT.ROM file from the floppy disk, you need to install a supported processor.

Somebody had luck to overclock Q9300 on P7N-SLI Platinum ? please post info

Try with mem settings auto and only adjust Vdimm to vendorspecs.
Did you try BIOS V1.1 from MSI : http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1373
This did solve some memory issues.
If so try, if you can, QVL memory and see if problem persists.
Hope this helps  , good luck and keep us posted
Also be sure that your on manual and not linked, this will give problems too, when fsb divider gets higher then memory divider.
Furthermore, by using non qvl mem, the NB and fsb vtt are very depending on eachother.
I had the same with my board  , the only difference with yours is the cirque pipe cooling and an extra chip for yorkfield support  , but it is do-able

  • MSI P7N SLI Platinum CPU Power Socket

I have a MSI P7N SLI Platinum and I just noticed I dont have a 8pin power plug on my ATX PSU ( this PSU is in my AMD rig)
I've just had a go of trying out my MSI P7N SLI Platinum board as a computer shop said just insert the 4 pin plug you used on your AMD board near the CPU..
I questioned him about it leaving 4 sockets bare, he said it would be fine..
Well I've tried booting up the rig and I get nothing on the screen (No Signal ) checked all sockets (graphics card, cpu)
I do get a little red and blue light on the board and the CPU fan and graphics fan are running fine,, but no signal...
I'm using a Intel Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz Processor Socket 775 which I know is fine,,,
Any views on this "you can use a 4pin plug on the 8pin CPU power socket " ?
Could this be the reason my rig is not booting ?
    THanks

"Any views on this "you can use a 4pin plug on the 8pin CPU power socket " ?"
Yes you can. Make sure that 4pin cable is connected properly at correct side of 8pin socket.
"Could this be the reason my rig is not booting ?"
Nop. You can plug 8pin CPU cable if you want to test opposite Should boot with both 4 or 8.
