P7N2 Diamond NEED HELP XD

hi
i need help settings up my P7N2 diamond aka 790i Ultra mobo
the bios setitngs are so differnet and labled all different to any other 7xx chipset so im confused to heck
I AM RUNNING 1.1 BIOS update
so here are my specs
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200
G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600Mhz (2x2GB)
GeForce GTX260 SLI x2
Corsair PSU TX850 (850 watt, sli cert)
1 HD, 1 DVD
So i want to overclock my CPU to run 2.8Ghz 1600Mhz FSB but i am struggle to understand the voltage and the way its labled on this board
Intel spec sheet says my cpu voltage should be 1.1 - 1.36 max but on the bios when i change cpu volts its like 0.12500 before it gos into the red  ?
now of the voltages are labled how they were in my 780i or 750i, etc
on 780i i had stable 2.8 ghz 1600mhz fsb here are the voltages i had
cpu = 1.36
fsb = 1.3
SPP = 1.4
MCP = 1.55
how do i translate these voltages on the cell menu ? what is what, on the cell there is no fsb, mcp or spp voltages
please help me i cant get a single tiny overclock to even get into windows and im starting to think its due to a poor bios, my first MSI product
please help
thanks

Do you have Real Temp & CPU-Z utilities? Real Temp will have the VID of your CPU. CPU-Z will show your CPU voltage & other useful info. When running stock, what does CPU-Z say the CPU Volts are? In bios Cell Menu, CPU V. is in increments of added voltage, as an example, if your CPU is at 1.24, & you want 1.36, change the Cell Menu CPU V. setting to +0.12.
SPP = 1.4 (This looks like a NB V. setting)
MCP = 1.55 (This looks like a SB V. setting)
In 'Advanced Bios Features' - 'Chipset Features', disable HPET. In bios 'Cell Menu', 'System Clock Mode' - 'Manual' (set desired settings accordingly) , 'D.O.T.' - disable, 'Spread Spectrum' - disable.
Use the Forum Search Button on P7N2 threads if you haven't yet. There should be some useful info that will help.

  • P7N Diamond, need help

Hello, i have built a new machine and now after a few days i think my graphic card died. Computer starts with gpu fan at 100% but thats about it, screen is blank.
Havent tried to switch graphic card yet, gonna buy a cheap one tomorrow, i suspect the psu but it should be ok, hmm =)
Anyway my system, i hope any of you can help me out.

    +12V V3 20A
    +12V V4 20A
    -12V 1A
    +5VSB 2.5A
It should be able to handle 41A on +12v1 and +12v2 together and max 530W (52.5A) on all 12V at once.
I am not very good at explaining in english but the psu should be high quality and was best rated by a swedish oc site.
Before i bought this i read alot on different sites to find out if i needed 26A on one rail or not and some said it was needed and some said
it works great with just a high quality psu.
I have also tried to remove everything except the graphic card, cpu, memory, and tried it with only 1 stick.

I solved it, thanks for the replies. Dont know what was causing it, i removed the motherboard from the case and it worked.
But there are still some issues, but i dont know what =) I have tried to overlock also but it isnt going very well, i dont know why its failing if it is the memory or if i dont give enough voltage... i made it boot at 4 ghz and the stress test with Orthos failed when memory was involved 8(
The thing i dont get is if i choose manual and set the ram memory at 800 mhz, does it stay there when i pick a higher fsb or does it secretly overclock =)
Also everytime i boot up vista 64, just before the login screen appears, when things work it fades nice to the login screen but when something is wrong it looks like a sick sack or how its spelled, pattern in black before the screen appears, even if i dont overclock at all.
Does any of you know what voltages that i should stick with? I would like to have the whole bios at manual but i dont know what most of the commands do, like the terminator, gtl settings =)

  • P7N2 Diamond suspected BIOS problem... help!

Hi there. I recently purchased a P7N2 Diamond and Q9650 3ghz processor for my new pc. I've assembled everything so it all looks pretty to find that when I boot the PC I cannot use my keyboard (either PS2 or USB) to go into the setup screens. After reading through your forums I have a feeling that my current BIOS version (startup screen says A7523NMS V1.0  042908) is not compatable with my CPU. How exactly can I get around this problem? I don't have another CPU and the one I purchased was unboxed and I am likely to have trouble sending it back. Am I able to flash the BIOS to an updated version? This isn't something I've done before so i'm unsure as to whether the PC needs to have windows loaded and a different CPU installed to be able to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated... Many thanks.

sim, you have already shot yourself in the foot, and that is bad enough for the time being we would like to see more of you  so give us a break. try search just enter first p7 diamond,  then you will see all threads on p7 diamond then you can also try p7diamond and then add your cpu, then search the result may  help you and may not when your bios is ok put first one memory stick and boot the pc run it  then reboot enter bios make any necessary adjustment reboot run the system then shut down then install the second memory reboot and check the system then download all additional drivers...etc [second memory goes into third slot and not the second] good luck

Hello every body i need very urgent help,

if possible i won't use any raid configurations, but i need speed
how should i conf. bios and which controller shouşd i use silicon or nvidia or how and wich has to be used.
    corecction about my configuration

    Case                      ENLIGHT 7247 400W

    Hello !!
The Bios configuration depends on many factors.....but we do not know anything about your configuration. ( CPU, RAM, Powersupply.....)
If you need HDD Speed, RAID 0 will be a good Option and you should consider it.
Both Controllers, Silicon Image & nvidia, have the same speed. But i think you can not attach Optical drives to the Silicon Image Controller. ( if someone has other experiance please post )
    Good Luck

  • Fitting ultra 120 extreme to P7N2 diamond

A friend has just bought me a thermalright ultra 120 extreme s a gift. I need to source information to find if this fan will fit the P7N2 diamond, or will it interfere with the circu-cool cooling fins? Anyone have a picture of one fitted to a P7N M/B, and if you do can you post a picture of how to fit it? Anyone has experience fitting this cooler that they can share with me? I dont want to unpack a cooler this expensive and be dissapointed it does not fit, so any help greatly recieved. Thanks a ton.

There are a couple of revisions of the extreme 120 so you'll need to check what revision you have.
Here's the compatability list for the extreme 120 without a revision #.

It appears that it's conditional on facing the HS towards the Northbridge.

  • MSI P7N2 Diamond won't boot

    hi,
My P7N2 Diamond won't boot. when i first tested it at my friend's house, the problem already occurred. but i was not sure if it was complete bricked because the processor we used was listed supported only under the new bios.
so i brought it home and tried it with an older  processor, the E6300 . still no luck.
one thing i noticed, every time i power up the board, the hdd_led, power_led, and standy_led are turned on all together. BUT, i have no HDD attached....
what could possibly wrong with my motherboard? btw, the memory i used is a Kingston DDR3 kvr133303n9/2g
    any advice/help will do. thanks

  • Need help in Mitigation...

Hi , I have the CC 5.2 connected to single system and using GLOBAL ruleset.
In backend i have created a role Z:CONFLICTING_ROLE and assigned to user ERIC.
Now there are two risks in the role F030 and S027 , i have created two mitigating controls for them and have mitigated the risks at role level .
When i run the report on the USER ERIC , it should show in there also as mitigated , but there is nothing in mitigation.
I was under impression that roles once mitigated , users with be mitigated also, what is wrong here ? ?
    The option under Configuration :
Risk Analysis ->Add Options -> Include Role/Profile Mitigating Controls in User Analysis
    is set to yes..
Pls help me to resolve this issue.

    navdeep,
I was rather talking about the PFUD in the back-end system.
But okay, if the synch with GRC is not working in the first place, then this issue should be addressed as well. However, that goes beyond this particular post 'Need help in Mitigation"
In an attempt to help you : is your diamond shaped adapter green ? are you using the correct model in the JCO in terms of your release of backend system ? did you do a full sync or incremental ?
for sure, this is your issue why the users are not mitigated through their assigned mitigated roles.

If it really was 2.64V on the +12V rail, your MOBO wouldn't even post.  That reading is a wrong reading.  What are you using to check the voltages?  What is shown in the BIOS?
i really had serious problems .Two A..S Striker 2 Extreme down ,2 MSI P7N2 diamond mobo down {[3 x ( start,5sec -> freze)] and no post anymore} And suddenly the third  P7N2 Diamond  working.
Nothing changed. How to explain this?

  • P7N2 DIAMOND NOT BOOTING/STARTING

Hello all, i have the following system P7N2 Diamond Motherboard, Intel Q9650 Processor, Kingston Hynix 2GB 1600MHZ RAM, Nvidia 8600GTS Graphics Card. First i put it all together and started it up, boot screen came up 'press <DEL> to enter setup' 'Press <TAB> to blah blah. It wouldnt go past that point. It also beeped (1 LONG 2 SHORT). My first problem was my keyboard wouldnt work. So i checked that is was plugged in. It was. So after a min it turned itself off. I tried again and it did the same. On the 3rd attempt nothing on the screen showed up at all, nothing beeped, Nothing. I checked everything out that it was seated properly and even reseated it all. I have tried with minimal components. I have also tried another graphics card. Still Nothing. When i turn it on the cpu fan goes. I have the 24pin power in and also i am only using the 4 pin cpu power cable. MSI say this is ok? The power supply is an OCZ Coolermaster 400W. There are 3 lights on the Motherboard where the power and reset button are. They light up as follows. Top (RED) Middle (Blue) Bottom (RED). When it is turned off the bottom light stays (RED). Does the mean anything. I have tried to explain as best as i can. Any Help would be great, Thanks.

Okay.  Your BIOS Version is v1.0 then and this version does not officially support your processor.
You can check the CPU Support list here:
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1445&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
Install a processor supported by BIOS v1.0 and see if the system starts up properly.  If it does, update the BIOS and test that Q9650 again.

  • P7N2 Diamond Buggy bios, 790i chipset failure corrupt data, bios update msi?

Well I run a business that does photography for major concerts in Sydney.  I upgraded my multi display computer to increase the amount of lcd's I could have going.  That's when this all started.
    Specs.
    1500watt thermaltake toughpower
    q9550 Intel quad core
2gig kit of corsair 2000MHz memory ( rated at 9-9-9-24 at 1.9 volts) TW3X2G2000C9DFNV matched pair
    6 disk sata 2 raid 10
    Asus striker 2 extreme.
2 x 9800gx2  and 2x 9600gt single slot cards.  ( for a total of 8 LCD div ports without having to use a quadro card setup)
The asus undervolts allot of things off the get go causing the system to become as stable as a plate of jelly.  Flashing the bios fixed nothing and 30 minutes later the computer would not post at all.  So after owning it 1 day it went back.  After researching hard I discovered about 50% can't get there striker 2 extreme working at all unless adjusting all voltages and underclocking it, allot of people are on there 3 or 4th board.
So I then bought a evega version which was dead on arrival.  According to the supplier in Sydney andatech about 50% of these motherboard are DOA.  Seems to crazy to be true.
So I went with the MSI P7N2 Diamond.  SERIAL NUMBER 601-7523-010B0805142868
I am very happy with the design of this board but it has massive problems as well.  My memory will not post in duel channel unless its on stock 1333MHz.  I have to manually put in the vdimm voltages and timings of course.  This too is a problem as CPU-Z says they are allot higher then I manually set.
So if i want to get the 2000MHz of my memory It has to be placed in dimm slot 1 and 2 in single channel mode.   It wont work in duel channel configurations(Dimm slot 1 and 3, or 2 and 4) or in single channel mode dimm slot 3 and 4.
Moving on!   The computer at least is usuable. even though the bios is extremely buggy.  But it sure has done better then it competitor's.
The other problem lies with the nvidia 790i chipset

Above is link to nvidia admitting to the problem. Below another source just one of thousands, all you have to do to find them is type in the words nvidia data corruption into google.

Here are problems tied in with the 790i chipset
    1. windows/hdd corruption/ system instability
    2. FSB holes
    3. HDD corruption/destruction
    4. real voltages are notably lower than what is set in bios (mostly applies to nvidia reference boards)
The above was taken out of the following site

To be honest it is just one of hundreds and hundreds having these major issues and its to easy to find people having the same problem.  Bios update has been released for xfx asus and other 790i reference boards will MSI release one too?   Asus has released about 6 bios updates so far at least.  I know this is a new board I do not require six bios updates just one that makes the motherboard work the way it is meant too
This puts me in a hard position.  If i wait to see if a bios will fix it I may not be able to return the motherboard.  The bios update may not fix the issue at all anyhow.  I am really sick of returning these things and would love to get one that works.  I feel if I have to do it again I will not buy another motherboard and will seek alternate options as I am that tired of rebuilding this computer and struggling to make it work the way its capabilities are being advertised as.
Right now my computer is majorly underclocked just so my data integrity remains in tact.  I am on my 5Th rebuild of windows and vista with this motherboard Ive managed to keep it stable at fsb 333x8.5 1333MHz and memory at 1000MHz. with all settings manually set.
This computer has cost around 6 grand and is a major business investment for me.  Ive already had to cancel a major penrith gig because I can't guarantee my gear works, and if it does not stable.  I could of spent 1/4 that amount and achieved similar performance.

One issue that may be hindering you is the amount of power being supplied by your motherboard to your PCIe card.  The motherboard allows for 75W to be used by the PCIe for graphics cards, and with that many you may be depleting your system of power.  This was an issue for some DFI boards a while back and now DFI adds extra power connectors to their motherboards at both of the main graphic PCIe connectors.  Not sure if this board supports that option.  but you definitely have way more than enough power to run your system without your PSU breaking a sweat.
If you need a quad-DVI board, some of the ATI 3870x2 cards have quad-DVI ports, usually the OC editions.  not sure if MSI makes one yet.  but you will lose SLI and crossfire won't work on that board.  but they should work as 2 separate cards for 8 DVI ports.  Also, ATI supports multi-monitor suport in crossfire mode as SLI doesn't or didn't last I checked.

as for waiting for a BIOS update, I'd definitely not wait past the deadline if it won't do exactly what you NEED.  I find sometimes a BIOS fix never comes or there may be a bad design and a there's no possible way to fix things in a BIOS update.
    Good luck

Ironic because I was discussing this speculation with a mate of mine.  I Think it is highly likely, I also think it is a 790i chipset flaw / or a problem occuring with 3 gx2 initial pcie power drain.  We where disussing the exact thing.
We also discuss alot of ATI options, hell they are the new nvidia as far as performance is concerned.  There cpu's still suck sorry amd.
Hell you remind me alot of this mate of mine o0*  wierd.
Anyway the only thing stopping me from going ati considering pending improvements to crossfire, and with pciex16 on second pcie ati crossfireboard now fairly standard removing bottlenecks, Is the fact I am not aware of a ati version of NVIEW
I know there is a old replica of NVIEW that may have been part of its devolpment process.

Notice is similiarities.  Does it work with ATI, is it expried software.  I am yet to find out.
Also I belive you are right.  Having 8 pin power plugged into the mobo and it still dying like that leads me to belive no bios update can ever fix such a thing.
Its a shaky contraversal market atm.

  • P7N2 diamond does not boot with q9450

I cannot get my new P7N2 diamond to boot, i am using
    q9450 cpu
2x2gb corsair xms 3 dhx (dual channel in blue slots)
    BFG 9800 GTX
    2X 500 Maxtor sata 2 HD
    2xIDE liteon lightscribe DVDR
600 watt noisetaker enermax power supply
It turns on but there is no bios beep. Can hear the noise of the drives spinning up, powering up everything, lights on motherboard are lit and fans spin, but the monitor is not showing any bios reading. I have tried running one stick of ram, resetting cmos, check all cables and plugs, but it just wont post. Could the bios be too early to recognise the intel q9450, otherwise any help would be appreciated.

Wow.  You either build lots of systems, or your expectations are pretty low.  'A fact of system building' should only apply to large OEMs not the home builder doing a like a build a year.  That would be a pretty high rate of failure that any manufacturer should be embarrassed by.
I'm curious as an employee of Intel how many folks have had issues with Intel branded boards?  I know that we tend to build systems that are less enthusiast-friendly than other manufacturers, but if it's enthusiast-friendly and doesn't work what good is it?
I have built loads of systems and I still do. I've had my share of doa hardware. It's not an everyday occurance but it happens. A build a year? I've built 8 so far this year and of those I've had one no post mobo (XFX 790i), a bad ram kit, 1 vid card with memory artifacting, a Q9550 (oem) that died a sudden death during testing, and a failed psu. That last item was my fault for skimping. I just know it happens and I don't waste time stressing about it, I rma and get on with it. I like happy endings so I don't sit in the problem, I resolve it. How many folks have had issues with intel branded boards? I'm not sure where you're going with this but I'm guessing intel's numbers aren't much different than MSI's or anyone else's when it comes to percentages. Like any other manufacturing process, it's a given that there will be faulty parts shipped.

** cannot disabled EIST ( in windows multiplier working not stable => 6x/9x changed overtime )
There is another function that controls Multiplier and VCore adjustions called C1E Support.  You can find it in the CPU Features section of the BIOS (press F4 to make it visible and to be able to disable it).

  • P7N2 Diamond won't boot. Any troubleshooting possible?

    Hello,
I have the following set up:
    P7N2 Diamond | Core 2 quad Q9450 | MSI geforce 280 Super-OC | Corsair TWIN3X 1333MHz DDR3 4GB
The system was working fine for a month, today Windows was running a bit slow so I've rebooted the PC. It could never boot again.
When I switch it on the screen stays black.
    - I have reseted the CMOS with power cable unplugged
    Upon start up:
    - All appropriate LED's light Blue, Power LED lights Red
    - Graphics card showing Green light inside
    - Graphics card cooler fan starts up
    - No LEDs light on the keyboard
    - I've unplugged all SATA and USB cables, unplugged keyboard/mouse and network, taken out the sound card
    - The screen still stays black
As I've bought this gear in an online shop it's very akward to send all parts back to them.
I need your expert advice on where the problem might be and more importantly as I don't have any spare parts..
is there any further troubleshooting I can do? Do you think it's the motherboard or the CPU or something else?
How do I find out without any indications from the motherboard (old motherboards used to bip)?
Thank you very much in advance.

Except that GTX 280 (already overclocked), did you overclock anything else?
In any case, you need to borrow another PSU and another (nVidia) graphics card first of all.
    cheers
    Yes, i run my Q9450 2.66GHZ at 3.4GHz at Vcore +0.125V
I mean the system was working fine for 1 month, no problems at all and then just suddenly died, all LED's and indicators light Blue and Green, does this not imply that the power is OK?!
Is there anyway to tell which component is faulty, like a dead CPU? I don't have a speaker in the case so I can't hear any bips.
It's also not possible to borrow any spare parts from anywhere :( it really sucks
