P965 doesn't POST, power flicking on and off

I have a P965, with an E6600, an Nvidia 8800 GTS(320mb), a OCZ GameXStream 600 watt psu, 2 GB of Patriot Extreme Performance RAM(DDR2 800).
I haven't any real trouble with my computer for quite a while, but I recently got a new laptop and haven't used my desktop in days. I came back to it to find a blank screen. Normally it powers down for a moment right after it's turned on and then powers back on, which is a normal occurrence or feature or some such. But now it just turns on for a good five to ten seconds, then starts turning on and off every second or two, with the monitor still remaining blank with no POST or BIOS or anything. It will keep doing this a few more times before it stays on for another five to ten seconds and repeats the cycle all over. I thoroughly cleaned out any dust, secured all the cables and tried a spare cable for my monitor just to see if that's why nothing would pop up, but to no avail.
I'm nervous that it might be a problem with the motherboard or power supply, or maybe the video card. Any help would be greatly appreciated

That's a good idea to remove it all from the case and bench test it that way. Remove and then reseat all components ensuring everything is full inserted/plugged in to their appropriate jacks, slots, sockets, and whatever. Also double check there are no extra standoffs in the case (or anything else that could cause a short circuit) that don't line up with MB mounting screw holes. Be sure clean surface of CPU and cooler mounting surface and apply fresh thermal compound.

  • All drop down lists flicker on and off while typing or right clicking.

All drop down lists in Firefox, whether it's the menu drop downs, the autocomplete drop downs in the URL bar or the Search field, or even autocomplete drop downs in website form fields, flicker on and off as I type, or when I'm right clicking a link to open in new window or trying to copy a link. I can sometimes get what I want by waiting for it to flicker on and clicking at just the right moment, but it often doesn't work at all. I have a fresh install of Firefox 13.0.1 with no running add ins, plugins or other 3rd party tools. (The troubleshooting info says I have the Adobe Create PDF Extension enabled, but it's not)
None of the suggested fixes I've found in the forums seem to apply here, cause they're all related to add-ins that I don't have.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks

I tried pressing the power button on and off for several times and nothing happens, I'm always stuck on an apple logo and a spinning wheel. I dont know how to get to the Partition and the DiskUtility. The Apple Logo and the Progress Indicator will continue to spin and I have literally no idea what to do. i am in desperate need of help. help me pls

    Turn it off.
Start it up again and (at the sound of the chime) press and hold the command and the R keys, hold them down until Recovery loads. When it does you will select Disk Utility and you should be on the First Aid tab when it opens, if you are not please select it. Then select the partition (in the side bar, 2nd entry on the list, see picture).
Yours is probably called Macintosh HD.
Once you have selected it go to the lower righthand corner of the First Aid dialog and press Repair Disk.
This will take 10 minutes approximately. Post back when it is finished and tell me what it says.

  • My iMac won't turn on after power flickered on and off.Is there a virus affecting it or is something ele wrong?

My iMac was on and we had our power flicker because of weather conditions. I know the computer is hooked up right because it was on before the power went out.So my question is, is there a virus that had been affecting it before it went off, or is the power button broken? And any help would be appreciated because we have just taken in other computers for various reasons and we really don't want to take it in again.Oh, and i don't really know which model it is. Thanks

Try an SMC reset - sometimes works:
    SMC Reset
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer’s power cord and disconnect peripherals (printers/external hard disks, etc. but not keyboard or mouse).
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Blue screen on c7280 all in one reads b851fe84. lights flicker on and off. will not turn off.

HP Photosmart C7280 All-In-One printer.  Operating system is Windows XP.  This has happened sporadically over several months.  A few weeks ago, I inserted new ink cartridges and that seemed to stop the problem.  Now, it has returned.  The on/off button will not turn the printer off.  The photo-menu, print photos, auto answer, on/off button, plus a light near the card slots all blink on and off.  The PhotoSmart Express displays a blue screen with B851FE84 written on it.  On occasion, I have received other blue screen messages but they appear for just a second or two.  I believe one earlier today was B01B17FC but it only appeared for a second or two so it may not be correctly recorded.

  • New atv2 keeps flicking on and off screen

Hi, just got my brand new atv2, opened it up plugged it in and went through the wifi access details without an issue. But now the menu appears with movies highlighted but then it disappears offscreen and the tv does not receive a signal, I cant move between the options when it comes back on screen as it goes off in about a second.
I've held down the menu and down button as some of the topics suggest but nothing happens!!
Have I bought a dud device?? What can I do?

Does this mean there is an issue?
I'd put it down to one of 4 things.
The Apple TV is duff, not likely, but not impossible.
Something has become corrupt and it needs restarting or restoring.
There's a problem with the HDMI connection.
There's a problem on your network.
Trying at a friends house would be very helpful, but meantime you can always try a restore, it's quite quick and painless.
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • Screens flicker on and off, especially after 'waking'

Just shy of 100% of the time I wake my computer from full sleep mode or just the screensaver (factory installed screensaver), my monitors will take turns turning blue, then black, then coming back on again in a cycle that repeats for up to five minutes. I do think you mean thinkpad, Thinkcentre is the desktop.
During your initial startup, press the blue thinkvantage button, which hopefully will take you into the Rescue and Recovery, from which select restore to factory setting.
Alternatively, burn yourself a set of recovery media from Start -> Program -> Thinkvantage -> Create Recovery Media -> Recovery disks. And use that disk to restore your laptop to factory state. <- Even if you don't use this step, it is a good idea to burn a set of recvoery disks.

  • Nano flicking on and off

I let my battery run down on my 3-month-old Nano until it turned itself off about two weeks ago. Today I plugged it into my computer to recharge it, but it keeps turning itself off and on.
At first, when the iPod turned on it went to the main screen for half a second, then to another screen that said something about the battery, and finally turned itself off. I wasn't able to read the screen about the battery.
After a few minutes, the iPod started turning itself off before it reached the main screen, and has been doing that for the last 45 minutes or so. It's just displaying the Apple logo and going blank, over and over again.
I've tried to reset it (many times). I can't restore my Nano because it never connects to the computer. I've tried several different USB ports.
I read on some page about iPod batteries that some battery-related problems can be solved by using the wall recharger instead of the USB port. I don't have that recharger, though, and I'm not too keen on going out and buying one on the off chance that it'll help (nor do I know anyone who owns one).
    Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated, thanks!
      Windows XP

Well, my iPod has been hooked up to the computer for about ten hours now... no change. It's still turning off and on.
Is there any way to charge the battery without the iPod turning on? I have no idea what's going on with this thing. Should I send it in to get serviced?
EDIT: Eh, never mind, I guess. When I turned my computer off with the nano still hooked up, the iPod turned off and on a few more times then FINALLY went to the battery symbol. When I turned the computer back on, the elusive "Do Not Disconnect" screen popped up. I'm so happy! And that, as they say, is that.

  • T61 screen and system tray flicker on and off during start up

When I start up my T61, under XP Pro SP3:
The screen dimms slightly during the welcome to windows message, and three seconds later returns to normal.
Then, just before the system tray and battery life icons appear, the screen flickers off then on, and a black rectangle appears in the bottom right corner.
The black rectangle dissapears and the system tray replaces it.
    Is this normal?
If not, what is wrong with my Think Pad?
After this seemingly odd behaviour, I get a message telling me that I have no wireless connection.
Then, all is good and my thinkpad suffers no other performance issues.
Please could somone give me details as to why my Think Pad boots up in this manner?

  • 80G ipod classic, black, having a fit. Keeps turning itself on and off

    Hey people.
I made the mistake of letting my 80G ipod classic run down to a completely empty battery. I think it is the first time in the year since I bought it that I have done this! Anyway, it keeps flicking on and off when I plug it into my macbook. The apple logo appears and then it goes, it appears and then it goes. I've left it plugged in for 2 hours now so it's obviously not taking any charge because its not been recognised by my macbook at all. It doesn't show up in itunes and it doesn't show up in finder.
I can't even do the 5 Rs because it won't stay on long enough so I'm not sure what to do! I think it might be dead but I wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to save it.
It's been treated quite well, I have dropped it once and it ended up in the bath once but that was over 7 months ago and it has shown no ill effects at all so I don't see how that could be the problem now.
Anyway, let me know if you think you can help fix it. I kinda need it right now to help me learn Japanese!

Ooh I just tried plugging it into another laptop and it dd the same thing, but when I took it out it said 'conect to power'. That's the first thing it's done other than display the apple logo for a fraction of a second in a while. I'm just going to leave it plugged into my laptop for days and see what happens.

  • Monitor keeps flashing on and off

I have a mac G4 quicksilver running 10.4.11. The machine runs fine for what it is. The problem is with the monitor. I had an old apple display hooked up to it which began to flash on and off --- for no reason. I would unplug the monitor for a while, plug it back in, it would work fine for a bit...then the power would flash on and off...on and off...over and over. So, I thought the problem was with the monitor. I got a second monitor from work, which has never had any problems, plugged it into the G4 and before long, the same thing was happening to the new monitor...power turning on and off, on and off. For a while it will work...then just go off.
Since the same thing is happening with both monitors, this leads me to think it’s something with the G4...but I don’t know what. Maybe the port where the monitor plugs into on the back of the computer is bad?? Is that possible?
Does anyone have any ideas?? Can someone point me in the right direction of what I need to check?

Hi! For starters open it up and see if the video card has a fan on it and if so verify if it's working. Once you are sure of that you can start troubleshooting the problem better. Tom
