P965 Neo and core 2 duo issue

I have a P965 Neo
Vista x64
Intel Core 2 Duo 2200
4Gb Ram
ATI radeon HD 3650 512Mb
Core 2 duo processor seems to run a lot warmer than I think it should, both idlling and running high demand things (like games). Real Temp show the cores running at 83degC at times when CPU has been running at or close to 100% constantly. SpeedFan also shows high temps, and I have tried to control the fan speed using this program, but the max RPM of the standard Intel fan is approx 2000RPM, which I think I have it running at constantly.
I have just bought and Arctic Freezer 7 to cool it a bit more, but Im hoping someone has some help re some BIOS or other settings I can tweak to remedy this. Dual Core Center doesnt run on Vista x64 (I think), so I cant use that for anything.
One point I did notice was something about the CPU and 550MHz in the BIOS - offhand I cant remember what this was (Im at work now).
The RAM seems to be running at 800MHz, and the FSB is 200MHZ (ie not over or underclocked). I dont see any option to adjust the CPU Multiplier if this is a solution.
I hope this gives someone enough info to help! If you need anything else I can post it when I get home.
Firstly - apologies if this has been answered or is a stupid question - Im working my way through the forum trying to find answers, but nothing yet.
Im newish to the PC building game, and I know the basics, but BIOS stuff, overclocking etc is still unknown to me

I can say I have not updated the BIOS from whatever was delivered in the box. If it helps I have this info:
Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
That is not your BIOS Version. Check your current BIOS Version by looking at the information displayed on the POST Screen:
In your case it should say: "W7235IMS V1.??"

When you mention, real temp running at 83C, may i know where you're monitoring from?
Cas, he says he is using  Real Temp to check is processors Core Temperatures.  Real Temp is a Windows based application:
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
Quote
I would suggest you to monitor the temp in bios either under hardware monitor or health status
Note that the BIOS does not display Core Temperatures (which are read directly from the registers of the processors).  The CPU Temperature displayed in BIOS depends on an analog sensor.  CPU Temperature and Core Temperatures cannot be simply compared.

I have P965 Neo and Core 2 Duo 6400 and Win XP SP2 with all mainboard drivers installed. The problem is that the system recognises only one of the two cores...Any idea?

I had the same problem with my E6300, the only way to resolve was to reinstall windows then both cores were recognised! Nothing else worked.

  • PC freezes. (P965 Neo-f & Core 2 Duo E6400)

    Hello,
    I need some help.
My system became instable since I did a clean install.
It just freezes, especially when using heavier apps (within 5 min).
It is running winxp (Dutch version incl all win essential updates) and I used “live update 3” to get the latest drivers.
I did flash my bios (that wasn’t probably the smartest thing to do).
I already read some stuff on the forum (like the 1.9V my DDR2 need)…
and i installed “MSI Core Center” (system temp 35°, cpu temp 45°-50°).
But I didn’t discovered what my problem is.
Can anybody help me out please?
    Kind regards,

  • Java Development issue/differences between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo (??)

    Hi Everyone,
I am a Java developer that uses my 17" MBP Core Duo for all of my development. Lately, I've been trying to use both the Glassfish Application Server V2 (from Sun) and Maven 2.09 from the Apache project. I have configured identical scenarios on my MBP Core Duo and on a 15" MBP Core 2 Duo.
The scenario involves compiling and running some webservices (at least on the Core 2 Duo) in a local development environment. Both machines use the default JDK 1.5.0_13 installed on the machine.
On the 17" Core Duo, issuing a "mvn install" command produces the following error:

Is this an issue between the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo? I can't see that it is since I don't believe the hardware influences the software to that degree. However, I am at a loss for what is causing the issue and the Apache Maven list insists that there are developers that are using Maven successfully on OS X.
I really need to get past this issue, but I am at a loss. Please help.

  • P965 Neo-F and Core 2 Duo E6750 ... #@?!

So this topic is about combination MSI P965 Neo-F and Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 processor ...
question is ... is this combination possible ?
... its possible to BIOS 1.10 has support for E6750 ?
... ... its possible to eat bannana each day without consequences ?

hmm :-( so ... thank you for answers
what i can say now ... i made my own research
    NovJoe:  .. P965 Neo-F ... no P965 Neo-F V2 ...
Maesus: i trying to be friendly to each user here ... but i can be little bit sarcastic when i talking about P965 Neo-F, because this mobo is simply not well designed (i have almost one year experience with this mobo ... please accept it ... i am serious and not angry, hostile or "firebrandy")
Quote from: Maesus on 31-July-07, 13:28:00
The answer is NO. Does NOT support.
OK, thanks for link ... i see this before of course ... and look at right top corner - there is "Since BIOS Version 1.9". So we can click to BIOS tab on this site and we will see this "Version 1.10 Update Date 2007-07-05"...
(i hope you see the diference...i really asking for somthing for what i not found answer in this forum or old MSI papers)
So its on me to explain why i opened this thread ... there is place for others who HAVE this mobo and tryed BIOS v1.10 (and newer versions in future) and has any experience with this etc etc.. or directly with E6750 (or simply 1333Mhz cpus). Without rant... without voodoo...
RemusM: Many thanks to you for not attacking me ... again and again i found your replies verry useful a serious (and with sense for humor... good thing i mean)
to your answer ... ok. I know that owners of this board have problem to reach 333Mhz on FSB (base frequency - needed to 1333Mhz cpus) and 1333Mhz is not supported (like in cases of many other boards .. for example Neo-F Platinum).
P965 Platinum is able to run this processor ..
    Neo-F V2, Neo2 ...(sometime also called Neo-FI, Neo2-F V2, Neo2-FI etc etc) ... are also now able to run with E6750
And this mobos aren't originaly designed for this purposes...
... now, do you see what i mean? ... its about future support ...
will have this mobo in future support for 1333Mhz ? It is possible ?
but i have bad feeling that this mobo is mistake and MSI know it (Neo2 is proof for me) ... and support will silently die ...

  • P965-Neo and jMicron issue

    Hi,
I have a strange problem with MSI P965-Neo related to jMicron PATA-IDE (a DVD-RW is connected there).
The system is working just fine:
    1) the SATA HDD is recognized in the first BOOT phase and the DVD-RW is recognized in the 2nd boot phase (the jMicron boot phase).
    2) WinXP-SP2 has no problems at all with both drives (HDD & DVD)
    But ...
In case of DVDs (read) I get no more than 1X speed (approx. 1200KB/sec)
In case of CDs (read) I get no more than 8X (approx. 1200KB/sec).
So the max speed for my optical drive is 1200KB/sec.
At this speed it's obviously that I cannot burn CDs or DVDs ...
There're no reading/writing issues with my optical drive (LG H10N) on other systems.
Is someone able to help me ?
    thanks

    Quote from: antonis
Set the Jmicron in the BIOS to RAID mode. That worked for me.
    Didn't work (but thanks anyway).
The problem is solved now (I had to waste enough time for that ...).
    The solution: http://www.dieselbenz.info/JMB36X_WinDrv_Beta_R1.17.04.00.rar
It's a beta driver, but this is the answer to all "jMicron on MSI"  bugs.
With that driver I was able to write a full CD at 48X and a full DVD at 8X without any error.
    p.s.
A little piece of advice for MSI team:
The current v1.5 BIOS and jMicron driver are buggy (talking about MSI P965-Neo) !
You have to solve this problem as faster as you can because is very annoying and you'll lose customers !

  • P965 Neo and Corsair XMS2 DIMM kit 1024MB PC2-5300U CL4-4-4-12 (DDR2-667

I have a nasty compatibility issue with my P965 Neo board in combination with Corsair DDR2 memory.
    Hardware config:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, 2x2.13GHz, 266MHz FSB
    MSI P965 Neo-F (7235 PCB-V1.1) BIOS V1.50
    Corsair XMS2 DIMM kit 1024MB (2x512MB) PC2-5300U CL4-4-4-12 (DDR2-667) XMS5402v5.7
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 16MB SATA II
    Asus Extreme N7600GS SILENT/HTD, GeForce 7600 GS, 256MB, DVI, TV-out, PCIe
Using the Corsair memory at 667MHz (BIOS: auto by SPD) results in an unstable system and a lot of memory errors (checked by memtest86+). If I set the frequency to 533MHz the system is 100% stable.
Anyone else who encountered this problem? I have also tried to use only 1 DIMM for single channel mode, same problem.
Will this issue be fixed in the upcoming BIOS release?
    cheers,

strange there are no corsair 5300 only 5400 ?
and cm2x512-5400c4 needs 2.0v but cm2x512-5400c4pro only 1.9v ! so maybe it has nothing to say that my 5400c4pro are perfect ?

  • P965 Neo-F V2 boot cd issues

    Good Evening,
I got about 5 news systems with a mix of the P965 Neo boards. Some are the old Revision 1.1 with the Award bios and others at Rev 2.1 with the AMI.
These came with windows oem installed.
With myself owning a rev 1.1 Neo board at home I had no problems setting up those systems with and using GHOST.
    It's the Neo-F V2 boards I have problems with.
    Spec:
Antec Sonata with a Antec Trio Power 550watt PSU
    MSI P965 Neo-F V2
    Core 2 Duo E6600
    OCZ Platnium Rev 2.2
    GeForce 8800GTS 320meg
    80 gig Seagate 7200.10 SATAII
    Sony IDE DVD-Rom
What I notice from the boards is the ide controllers been different. Also the options in the bios for configuring them been different when compared.
The only boot cd I got to work out of the 3 systems based on that V2 board was the Windows XP Home OEM cd that came with them.
My Linux distros burnt on Taiyo's, Verbatims couldn't boot. It would show a blinking cursor then start dropping down 10 pixels when each dvd-rom seek scan then hit the bottom of the screen and stayed there. My GHOST 11 network boot cds couldnt boot either same display output. These have been tested and verified in other systems. I also use the same dvd-rom that came with these computers.
I'm abit at a lost seen how I need to create my images for when more are ordered.
    Thanks for any help,
    Malbojia

The board has a Marvell 88SE6111 Controller to provide an IDE port (P965 Neo uses a JMicron Controller).  As far as I know, Linux Distribution have to come with Kernel v2.6.20. to support Marvell Chipsets correctly.  Could that be it?

  • Swapping MBP hard drive between i7 and core 2 duo (10.7.2)

Hi there. I'm looking for opinions, I have an older 17" MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo, Mid 2009) and a newer 15" MacBook Pro (i7, early 2011) both of which are running Lion (10.7.2).  The older laptop has a new 7200RPM drive and the new laptop has a standard 5400RPM drive.  I'm desiring to swap the drives while leaving them intact with their existing OS installs.  Does anyone anticipate that there will be issues booting the drives after the swap, specifically because of the difference in processors, memory, video, etc?
Thoughts? Opinions? No brainer? Not going to work?  I just don't want to go through the hassle if someone out there has already tried it and ended up having to re-install from scratch.
    Thanks for your help.

irrespective, Yes, the 7200 drive will make a noticeable difference, noticeablly faster.
At best it will be 30% faster, normally less than 15%, if the drive sizes are not the same it may not be faster at all.
    b)
Unfortunately as I experienced, you cannot simply swap a core2duo running drive to an i7 machine. It will not work. Too may differenced for it to boot or be easily corrected. It is a real pain unfortunately, I spent a good amount of time trying different things.
Maybe, maybe not, I boot an i7 iMac with an external disc that came from a Core@ machine and it works fine, as it is such a simple thing to test I believe the OP should try.

  • MacBook Pro and Core 2 Duo...Glossy or Matte?

    Hi there,
I am anxiously awaiting to see what Apple will be announcing (hopefully) today with regards to the new Intel Core 2 Duo and their notebooks.
I definately want a MacBook Pro, but don't know if the Core 2 Duo is worth waiting for. I want my MB Pro for a good 3 years and don't want to limit myself for buying the Core Duo currently available.
BUT...the student discount ends on Sept. 16th for the iPod...kinda rushed, but I see Apple's point to clear out older stock first.
QUESTION: If I order my MB Pro with a GLOSSY screen and not the MATTE, could I potentially be getting a better made computer and NOT one of the stock models with all the problems.
The main reason I wanted the MB Pro was for the 15" screen and matte finish!!! Now, the glossy seems to be more popular so I REALLY NEED SOME ADVICE...
    Thanks all!

    Hey Harry,
At this point I have to wait for a Core 2 Duo...it just doesn't make sense to buy now right on the cusp of an upgraded processor. As for the iPod, I will get one later I guess...it makes sense.
As for the screen, are the colours super saturated with the glossy screen? I was initially looking at the MacBook with of course, the mandatory glossy screen and I guess I was forced to like it at the beginning. Looking directly side by side from the MacBook to the Pro with the matte screen the colours did seem more vivid...or saturated I guess. So this has made me stop and think.
When I am looking directly at the matte screen it is beautiful for sure! I am also thinking that either screen will look amazing in my home away from all the overhead flourescent lighing in the stores. This is an argument for both screen types.
I initially wanted the matte screen for LOW-MAINTENANCE up-keep and didn't want to worry about opening the MB Pro and getting my fingerprints on top of the screen etc.
I will be using the MB Pro school work, internet, iTunes for sure and other general use...I just hear so many people bragging about both screens that I am a bit hesitant.
I am favouring the matte screen though...

  • P965 NEO and Windows 7 compatibility

    Hello everyone
I would like to know if my MSI P965 NEO motherboard is compatible with Windows 7. I've read on the website that it is certified with Windows Vista, but not any mention about Windows 7.
    TIA

I have a P965 Neo motherboard and Windows 7 Home Premium OS. It works without any problem.

  • Core Duo and Core 2 Duo

So, my black 2 ghz Core Duo is in need of a new hard drive. Of which I'm waiting for a warranty replacement.
My wife's white 2.16 Core 2 Duo macbok will be mine for the next week. Will my RAM from the black macbook work in the white macbook? Are they interchangable?
    TIA!

All white and black MacBooks come from the factory with PC2-5300 (DDR2 667) memory - more than likely CL=5. They should be interchangeable, but there is the caveat about total memory supported in various versions of the MacBook.
I'm not sure why you'd want to do this unless somehow your Core Duo has more memory than the Core 2 Duo machine. The standard build for the Core Duo MacBooks was 2x256MB, while the standard build for the Core 2 Duo 2.16 was 2x512MB.

  • Difference between core duo  and core 2 duo

I want to upgrade to Leopard starting where ever i need to but I cant figure out how o do it. On some of the discussions it says must have core 2 duo more, my macbook says core duo. Is this the same thing or different?  Any advise on how to upgrade would be appreciated. I want to upgrade itunes and cant because i get the message not compatible wit this version of OS X..  Please help

    1. As stated above, you need to purchase Snow Leopard on DVD. Don't worry about any intermediate versions.
    2. The newest version of iTunes which will run on 10.4.11 is 9.2.1. If you need to upgrade because you purchased a new iPod or similar device, you'll almost certainly need to upgrade your OS too.

  • Difference in speed between i5 and Core 2 Duo (same GHz)?

My two-year old MacBook Pro has a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB RAM.

Anyone have any idea what the speed difference might be between these two? Approximately?
And does software have to be re-written to take advantage of the i5? In other words: What do I stand to gain if upgrading today?
