P965 platinium - Boot squence is lost when mashine is cold booted
Hi, I hope someone can help me out here...
When I cold boot my PC the bootsequence is lost and set to 1: floppy, 2: sata disk 1 in raid 5, 3: sata disk 2 in raid 5.
Now I don't have a floppy and the raid array is not a system disk. Then I have to re-enter my boot seq. to: 1: P0 500 GB system disk,2: None, 3: None) and save with F10. - but after a new cold-boot my sequence is lost again...

My System:
MSI P965 platinium mother board, bios 1.6
500 gb system disk with dual boot on sata 0, Vista and XP.
3 250 gb disks to a raid 5 array on sata port 3,4 and 5.
Pioneer DVD-R (IDE) on jmicron
IN bios:
Onboard RAID Controller: is set to [IDE] <- this is the jmicron (I think) to my Pioneer DVD-R drive.
under On-chip ATA devices ->
PCI IDE BusMaser: is set to [Enabled]
configure SATA#1 as : is set to [ACHI]
The raid array works fine in Vista and XP. (Both system was installed on sata disk on port 0 with ACHI enabled.

Did it work? Actually, I wasn't suggesting this as a workaround. I was only telling you what I sometimes (inadvertently, of course) do to make the BIOS overwrite my normal boot sequence: boot with a usb stick plugged in.

Since upgrading to ios6, all the family's apple devices (new ipad, 2 iphone4 & itouch) are having difficulty reconnecting to the home hub wifi network. I.e, every time the lock screen comes on, the wifi connection is lost when you reopen the device and we have to reconnect through settings. This appears to be an ios6 software issue.
Is there a solution to this wifi connection issue or do we wait for a software fix?
I'd hate to think Apple is going down the Microsoft path, of passing untested software onto the user. What ever happened to Regression Testing, to ensure the existing functionality remains intact?

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

However, you can go to the App Store and do a search using YouTube. You can download several YouTube apps: YouTube (for the iPhone, a IPad app is in work), several users like Jasmine and YouPlayer.

Can i recover photo files lost when i wiped out my hard-drive and reinstalled mac os x? I know that when a computer is wiped cleaned that the info is still on the hard drive, how do I access it? Can I pay someone to access it? Long story short, everything was saved to my external hard drive except my photos, by mistake of course.
You have to stop using the drive immediately. Completely stop. Do not boot the computer from the drive.
File recovery software: Try using an application such as Data Rescue 3 - http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php or FileSalvage - http://subrosasoft.com, or one of the ones listed in the (old) link below. Some have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. You will also need a second hard drive equal to or larger in size than your first drive as a destination drive for recovered files.

It is critical that you do not use the computer or even turn it on until you have rescued your files. Files only have the directory reference to them removed when you empty the trash or otherwise delete them from a computer (unless you use secure erase, in which case they are gone forever or can only be potentially be recovered by very expensive means) and are still present on the computer. However, their space is marked as available to any other file creation done on the computer (even done by you booting the computer) and there is risk that your files will be overwritten by the computer.
Even if the above works, do not expect the results to be pretty or even 100% successful. Files will often lose their names and you will have to re-name them one by one. -
My last Time Machine back-up is 45 days old and only of User Account files (not entire HD) and I must now reinstall Lion (via internet) without performing a new back-up. Will any new User Account files, since my last back-up, be lost when Lion reinstalls ?
Reinstalling OS X doesn't affect user data, provided nothing goes wrong. But it would be very unwise to assume that nothing will go wrong, especially if you're having (unspecified) system issues. You should try to back up all data before you reinstall or do anything else. There are ways to do that, even if you're unable to boot.
If your backups include only user files, you won't be able to access them in Setup Assistant. -
P965 Platinium won't start up after CPU change and swap back - HELP Please
Hi all,
I have a P965 Platinium which has been working perfectly. I decided to try upgrading the CPU and put in an E5700 (socket 775 CPU) which I now realize is not supported. So I removed it again and re-installed the original CPU but now it won't boot - fans come on, HDD and DVD power up, but the Video goes into sleep mode.
Any thoughts ? This mobo doesn't appear to have any sound / beeper or at least, there's no beeps coming from anywhere.
Do I maybe need to clear some condition which was generated after the invalid CPU was tried ?No joy :(
There is a beeper connected to the mobo and there isn't a sound out of it at all so I'm completely confused right now.
The CPU and Graphics Card fans are all firing up OK and the CPU gets hot confirming too that it's also getting power. I tried the modo with the CPU and no heatsink and the system shut itself down which was obviously to protect itself so again it seems to me that the syste is still alive. I also tried another graphics card but also no joy. -
OK, I need to be able to have a linked TOC, and also have destinations created in FM10 that will not be lost when I 1. Save the book as a PDF; then 2. I need the PDF to be as small as possible, but without losing my destinations. Anyone know how to do that??
I had been saving as a PDF and then reducing the size of the PDF by printing it as a PDF with a degree of image compression. I write manuals with a LOT of screen captures and line art that needs to be clear. So it is a balancing act between image clarity and PDF size. The PDFs on the web need to be smaller - sure you can undertsand.
Anyway, when I print the PDF again, I lose both my destinations and bookmarks.
Anyone know of any way to avoid that?Control the images by creating a custom PDF Job Options and then selecting it in the PDF Job Options drop-down of the PDF setup dialog box (File > Save as PDF...)
Create the custom PDF Job Options file with Distiller. If you do not have Distiller, open the Printing Preferences of the Adobe PDF printer. Start with the Smallest File Size Job Options settings and Edit. -

All your iTunes Store purchases are linked to the account. I do not think you can use two accounts with an iPod*, so you will have to choose one account or the other, and use only the things purchased under that account.
*I've never actually tried, but that's my understanding. You'd get a better answer by posting in the correct forum. Try the iPod forums rather than the Using Apple Support Communities forum. -

All of the data should be on your computer, simply sync it back.
If the update was done via iTunes on the computer, the first step in the process is a backup of the device. -

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.

The default about:home page in Firefox 4 doesn't give such features. You can set the home page to http://www.google.ca to get that possibility. The results page has a "Pages from Canada" link in the side menu at the left.

thanksI would most emphatically recommend that you get your boss to sign off on you having no liability nor culpability for any results of work he expects you to do "on the side".
People study and learn for years - and appropriately so ! - in order to accomplish this kind of work effectively and efficiently.
If you are learning and have a non-production environment to work with and potentially wipe & reinstall where need be, then by all means, go for it (start learning).
But otherwise your boss should accept that s/he is getting what they're paying for, and since it is nothing, they should be prepared for that.
It is neither technically nor professionally advisable to foist a task such as this on someone and expect the result(s) to be that of a trained professional in that field. The fundamental concern is the disconnect there, and the unacceptable risk this situation could put you in, either now or in the future.
To the matter at hand, I generally recommend strongly against an upgrade, as compared to a (verified good) backup, wipe and reinstall and configure from the outset as "Advanced."
For computer management, you will want to run your server as an Open Directory Master,
and as such, you must must must have verified working DNS lookup(s) for your server's FQDN, prior to proceeding with re-installing & reconfiguring it. -

Our app has a bunch of stored procedures which process arrays of integers or strings.
From time to time (maybe 1 in a 1000) array data gets lost when calling stored procedures. From the logs we know that the data gets sent to the stored procedure, but on the DB side the procedure throws an exception because arrays are empty.
We are using (modified) OracleConnectionCacheImp (thus PooledConnections, etc.). My latest guess is that maybe somehow ArrayDescriptors on the (pooled)connection used to call the stored procedure are somehow affected when another pooled connection from OracleConnectionCacheImp gets removed by parallel thread. Is that possible? We're considering disabling the HP Universal Print Driver Language Monitor and in-turn Bi-directional Printing due to potential server spooler instabilities, before we do this the IT Manager wants to be sure:
1. What functionality is lost when disabling Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing?
2. What else uses Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing them? In other words what may break?
3. What specifically do Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing provide?

1. Locate the relevant Language Monitor registry key in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors
Either delete or rename the registry key (so it cannot be found), in my case: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\HPMLM121
I renamed it to have the date at the end (HPMLM121_2015-01-29).
2. Inside the above registry key is a DLL file mentioned under the DRIVER reference. In my case it's called: hpmlm121.dll.
I searched the entire C drive on the server and this was only found in C:\Windows\System32. I moved this elsewhere out of C:\Windows and also renamed the DLL too.
Therefore preventing Windows from being able to find/use it.
3. I then unticked Bidirectional Printing Support in the Printer Properties Ports tab of the printer in question.
4. Lastly either restart the server (or stop/restart the Spooler service).
I've done all this and the HP Print Notifications for Replace Cartridge etc... are still active.
Any idea why this is?
