P965 Platinum has power but not for long - newbie error?

I press the power button and the PSU and CPU fan spin up for a second then shut right down. No beeping or anything. I removed all other components - mobo outside of case w/ 24-pin power, CPU power and CPU fan plugged in. Same result with or without RAM, with or without graphics card. D Bracket briefly shows all 4 lights when power is supplied. What's up? I'm a total newbie to assembling computers - what am I doing wrong?
I tried removing the CPU power and when I do that the PSU fan (and light) comes alive and stays alive when I press power. So it seems PSU is good.

Why change the 8 pin out for a 4 pin?
Make sure CPU is seated properly. Try with vid card and 1 stick of ram only. I would suggest motherboard out of the case but you say you are doing that.

USB has power, but not detecting any USB drive. Also crazy trackpad.

I own a 2012 Macbook Pro, and I am running OS X Version 10.9.4 on it. Everything was working fine until last week, when the USB ports stopped working. Now, the USB ports still have power because the lights in my USB drive and external hard disk turn on when I insert them into the system. However, the OS X is not able to detect any of these devices as well as my USB mouse. I have Windows 7 installed on bootcamp, but there is no USB response in Windows 7 as well.
I have done the SMC and PRAM reset, as suggested on numerous other discussions, but there were no improvements.
To add to all this, the trackpad on my macbook started going berserk. The pointer has started to randomly click and drag, while I am not even touching the trackpad. It is extremely hard to move cursor to a particular folder, because the cursor will click and drag a lot of times, while it has reached its destination. Also, the trackpad acts insensitive in certain regions. I tried cleaning the trackpad (as suggested on other discussions), but the problem goes away only temporarily. It seems, after using it for a couple of hours, the problem is back again.
With USB and trackpad not responding, it is getting hard to pass the first week of school. I took it to IT department at my school, they checked it for a couple of minutes, and told me that I'll have to shell out $280 for sending it to Apple Depot. I'll really appreciate any kinda help!

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having trouble with your USB ports not recognizing most devices. I am happy to assist with this.
Since it just recently started to happen, I would normally recommend starting with a system restore to a point before the problem began. (say about a week ago or longer if possible) Unfortunately you have already done a reinstall, so there should not be any useful restore points to use.
Presumably you already backed up any data you could before reinstalling windows, and if so, then you could try a system recovery, which would restore the factory image of the notebook. Give it a try and let me know if it makes any difference.

Macbook Pro has power but not turning on

My daughter has a Macbook Pro she got in college, about three years ago. She is living in Gifu City, Japan, and it stopped working today. We bought a new battery and power supply cord just before she left. The power light is green, but when she pushes the power button, it makes the start noise and stops. She has no screen light coming on, and the sound stops. Is there a place in Gifu, Japan, for repair? If not, is there something she can do?
Also, she always leaves it on. I wonder if this could cause the problem?

£130 Connection Fee - Waived But Not For Long.....

Good evening all,
I really do hope someone can help me out with this problem I am currently having with regards to a connection fee charge.
I have been a BT landline customer since 2007 and up until a few months ago had not encountered a single problem hence when this occurred I genuinely thought it would take one single phenomenal to fix. Unfortunately this was not the case.
The problem started when I moved address and entered my new property on the 31st of July, approximately 6 miles away from my old address. Along with the usual things like SKY TV etc, all my services were taken care of by 'Home Move' teams, BT seemed to be the most difficult to negotiate. Because I was moving to a different exchange area, I would have to cancel my long standing account and open a new one. I spoke to a few UK staff members on call and there was no mention of a charge.
After longing and hoping that I did not have to wait too long for a phone connection in my new apartment so that I could get my broadband up and running, I was told on call that an engineer would have to come out and install a line within the property so booked a day off work to be in the flat.
Even better than taking a day off to wait in all day, was the text message I received from 'BTSMS' stating that my "advised appointment on the 12-AUG 2011 between 1pm and 6pm is no longer required for order (VOL011-XXXXXXXXXXXX) Our records show that you already have a phone socket and wiring within your home and can complete the order without the need to visit."
Long story short, my phoneline was working in the flat (SKY tv requires an active line to access interactive services) so without BT actually needing to do anything, the line was in there already
The problem was, I soon received a bill in confirming there had been a £130 charge to my account. I called, waiting 50 minutes on the phone and spoke to Offshore (India) who were sympathetic to my situation and he seemed to understand what the problem was. He stated he would be able to reverse the charge.
No sooner had 48 hours passed and I received another bill through the post explaining I HAD been charged £130 for a connection fee.
I subsequently went through the rigmarole of phoning Offshore, speaking to 2 further administrators and a Manager who promised to look into my queries, even pulling the necessary phenomenal to listen to and call me back - I never received a call back.
That in itself, for one of the worlds largest communication companies, unable to call a customer back, is just plain ignorant.
I have steered away from contacting the Office of Fair Trading, OFCOM etc as I do believe this to be an easily rectifiable mistake but I have lost hope and require guidance please from anyone that may have been through this before.

Upgraded MacBook A1181 to 8x Superdrive, Drive Has Power But Not Recognized

Model: MacBook A1181 Black
OS: 10.6.4
Other: 13", Black, 2GB Ram, 500GB HDD, 2GHz
Yesterday I upgraded my Black 2Ghz Core Duo A1181 Macbook from a 4x UJ-857-C Superdrive to an 8x GSA-810-N Superdrive because the UJ-857-C had stopped working. The replacement is a NEW Apple branded Superdrive.
After completing the hardware replacement, I booted the computer and heard the new Superdrive get power during the boot sequence, so w/o checking system profiler, I put a DVD in the drive. It accepted the disk and sounded like it was reading it, but no disk mounted.
I then checked Disk Utility and there was no disk present and in System Profiler, the drive is not recognized at all. Thus the eject button doesn't work, so the disk is stuck.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why the drive would not be picked up by the computer? I don't believe the SATA cable is faulty since the drive is receiving power, and I don't believe the drive is faulty since it accepted the disk and all sounds were normal. Is there some type of procedure I need to go through to get the MacBook to recognize the new drive?

When you say "not recognized" do you mean when you look in Apple/About this Mac/More Info/Disk Burning that you see nothing?

Brush, sliders suddenly became super fast, but not for long

I work on a 30" monitor on a core 2 duo 3 GHz machine. The brush normally refreshes at what looks like a choppy 4 frames a second or so. In this strange instance, it was more like 20 fps.
Twice now, for no apparent reason, when using the local correction brush, it suddenly became very fast. It did this by seemingly using a localized low quality screen refresh mode; the area around the brush looked pixelated until I released the mouse, then it would snap into sharpness a moment later.
This is MUCH better than the regular behavior, but I can't figure out why it did this! After a while, it would revert back to regular mode.
I've only had the good fortune to experience this on two photos out of about 15,000 edited.
Does anyone know what might be happening, and if there is a way to permanently keep it active?

This is actually can be anywhere you have permission to write to. Normally I use a folder in the song's folder labeled "Audio Fles". This is kind of the default.
That really is probably what you need to set.

EPP for K9N2 Platinum/Diamond only but not for K9N2G?

Can K9N2G NEO-FD read SLI-READY DRAM's EPP data and set to run EPP enabled 1066 automatically just like nVidia 750a or 780a boards, without causing overheat or durability problems? According to Newegg and NextWarehouse, K9N2G NEO-FD runs 1066 in overclock fashion while K9N2 SLI platinum's and Diamond's spec showing 1066 is naturally supported. But, in MSI's web site, there is no difference shown on 1066 support.

It should, but I would still call it overclock settings. An overclock situation (FSB-wise) is the only chance you really have any benefit from 1066 memory.

I keep receiving a prompt that my account has been disabled, but not for secruity reasons. I had problems almost half a year ago with unauthorized purchases. When I asked Apple about the purchases, instead of providing answers, they said they would disable the account. Not only is that awful customer service and not answering my question, it's a HUGE pain in the butt because I just want to download some music legally!!! Thunderbolt display has power but no picture and no USB power

I've had my TB display working well with my Macbook for a while with no problems. This morning I started up the MacBook but the display didnt respond and the USB ports do not seem to be working. Keyboard and mouse both work when plugged directly into the MacBook but not when connected to the display. The MacBook is charging from the display so it has power, but nothing else seem to be working. Any ideas, or am I looking at taking it in to the local store for repair?

First try 'resetting' the Display by disconnecting it from mains for about 15 minutes and then plugging it back in. I've only had the problem that you describe once and this was the 'fix' for me.

Airplay works for one user but not for another on the same machine

I have the problem where airplay works for one user but not for another and both users are on the same machine. For the user where it does not work, everything appears normal, it's just that there is no sound being transmitted. I have tried restarting the Airport express, restarting iTunes, repairing disk permissions. Any ideas about what can be done to resolve this?

Router works for desktop, but not for surrounding laptops.

The router I have is the Linksys E1000. I bought it and hooked it up yesterday and works great for my desktop but not for my daughters laptop. Her laptop has wireless automatic internet recognitions which allows her to pick up surrounding internet networks. We cannot figure out how to make this work. Please help!

Are you able to see your router's network name on your laptop? If yes, then follow the below mentioned settings.
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center >> Manage Wireless Networks, here remove all the networks present and close the Window...
Click on Connect to a Network and try to re-connect to your Network, it should ask for your Network Key/Password, enter the correct password/network key and click Connect...
It should connect...Once you are connected you should restart the computer, it should connect to Internet...

I just spent $139.99 and cannot connect to Apple TV, while the same login works just fine on my iMac and iPad. When I signed up, the information provided indicated that I could view live games on Apple TV. What the ****?
