P965 Platinum SATA RAID drivers to slipstream

Hey guys,
Once in a while I slipstream SATA and SATA RAID drivers into my WinXP Pro setup cd, so I will not need a floppy on any system. My setup cd now contains drivers for VIA VT8237, nForce3, Promise 20378 and Promise 20579 controllers. I would like to add Intel ICH8R drivers...
I know how to do it, that's not the issue. But on MSI's download section for my P965 Platinum I can find two drivers:
Which one is to be used to setup RAID arrays on the ICH8R? Both contain contents for a floppy, both folders and files look the same. It's just that they differ in size, so I'm not sure which one I need. Do I need to slipstream both drivers to setup a RAID 0, 1 or 5 array?
Thnx in advance...

Alright, thanks. Why the first one and not the second one? Is there a difference between the two? I can not slipstream both, as they are both named "iastor.sys"...
"I can not slipstream both, as they are both named "iastor.sys"..."
you no need to put them both, only one of them.
they are the same version, all files match except iastor.sys size (in same time both iastor.sys are "same version" too.. 6.0.0.1022)
"Why the first one and not the second one?"
just guess, because MSI put them as ICH8R SATA RAID Driver as primary. if you have any problems you can try drivers from second achieve.

Because of my case and power supply I had to connect my two hard drives to the 2nd and 3rd SATA connectors on the motherboard.  It was too tight when using the first SATA connector.  Although everything is working the thought occurred to me that there might be an issue.  Is performance affected by doing this?  Any issues that I'm not seeing by doing this?  I have setup RAID 1 with two HITACHI 320GB 0A33435 SATA2 7200RPM 16MB ROHS drives.  I have installed the Intel Matrix Storage Manager and it appears to be running fine.  Thanks in advance.

Looks fine.  I don't think the Intel ICH8R RAID controller really cares which of its SATA ports you are using.  If everything seems to work fine there is no reason to suspect any hidden issues.

  • K8N 64bit sata raid drivers?

ANyone know where or how to get drivers for intalling 64bit windows on this motherboard. I cannot find any sata raid drivers for this board for w64. Thankyyou

Thankyou for your responses.  I did try extracting the nvidia files to a floopy but I must have done something wrong.  I did find a site that showed how to use the via drivers and make a txsetup.oem file, but that seemed to complicated. I know you folks will have an answer. Thanks again.

  • VIA SATA RAID Drivers

I lost the floppy disk containing the VIA SATA raid drivers for Windows Installation. My M/B is the KT600 FISR. So I kinda need the drivers as I am setting up a SATA drive.
Can someone please say where I can get the drivers, or email me the attached drivers.
    My email is:
    [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Sam

I am worried my floppy drive controller or something on the motherboard is not working. I tried the floppy disk containing drivers and Windows Installer said still said "Please insert the manufactuer's disk", I took out the disc and got the same message.
Then I booted up Windows Installer with the same floppy disk in a different MSI motherboard (a P4 mobo I have) and it detected the drivers fine.
Tried all the updated drivers you specified, and the floppy drive reads fine from Windows and is brand new (same problem with old one which I replaced only to find the same problem :
The mobo is still under warranty, should I give MSI / dabs.com a call?

  • MSI Newbie - P965 Platinum SATA Recommendation

Hi folks.  Just finished building a brand new machine from scratch and need some recommendations.  First time dealing with SATA stuff and not familiar with it.  This is what I have:
    1.Product Type: MSI Motherboard - P965 Platinum (MS-7238-010)
    2.BIOS version: 1.3.x
3.External VGA Type: MSI ATI Radeon RX1650XT-T2D256E  (MS-V073-02S)
    4.CPU Type: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4  (6600)
    5.Memory Type:  2x1GB Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 (latencies 4-4-4-12 Voltage: 2.1v Frequency:800MHz)
    6.Power Supply Type:  Ultra-V Series 500w PS
7.Operating System: Going to install Windows Vista
8:Hard Drive: One 500GB Maxtor SATA-II drive currently connected to SATA7
    So here are the questions:
    1) What is the different between SATA7 and the rest SATA1-6
    2) Should I leave my 500GB drive connected to SATA7?  What is the best-practice?  I am thinking of creating a RAID5 in the future that's why I left SATA1-SATA6 open.
    3) What do I need to do in the BIOS?
    4) Any other recommendation of hardware and BIOS setup?
    Thanks in advance.

    1) What is the different between SATA7 and the rest SATA1-6
SATA-Port 7 belongs to the JMicron-Chipset, SATA-Ports 1-6 to the Intel ICH8R-Chipset.  It is important to know that in order to be able to choose the right drivers.

    2) Should I leave my 500GB drive connected to SATA7?  What is the best-practice?  I am thinking of creating a RAID5 in the future that's why I left SATA1-SATA6 open.
RAID 5 should be possible with that Hard Drive hooked up to one of the ICH8R-Ports, even though it is not part of the Array.  If it is hooked up to SATA-Port seven, it cannot be part of the ICH8R-based RAID.
    Quote
    3) What do I need to do in the BIOS?
The relevant Option for those devices that are associated with the JMicron-Chipset/Controller (IDE-Port, SATA-Port 7) is
"Integrated Peripherals --> Onboard RAID Controller".  For Intel-ICH8R-Raid it should be set to IDE or even DISABLED, if no drives are attached to either SATA7 or the IDE-Port.
For optimal configuration concerning ICH8R-devices (RAID and non-RAID) check manual on page 3-14.

    4) Any other recommendation of hardware and BIOS setup?
That depends on what you plan to do and on the actual hardware hooked up to the board.

  • WinXP Pro 64, any nForce3 SATA/RAID drivers?

Im looking to install Windows XP pro 64 bit and notice the only drivers that are missing in the download section is the Raid drivers for Nforce3.
Do i install the regular XP ones or does 64bit have them on disk already? http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=572&kind=1

I'm confused your after nvidia drivers yet spec shows = VIA® K8T800 chipset.
If Nvidia d/load the nvidia64 drivers & make a new floppy with the updated drivers. to do this Right click the D/L driver File  & select unpack/unzip. Navigate to the \Nvidia\nForce_vrsion ?? \IDE\WinXP folder copy everything except the raidtool Folder onto floppy.

Why are you confused?   i want to know why or if i can use regular XP pro raid drivers for my Nforce3 chipset on MSI neo platinum board if i install Windows XP pro 64-bit edition. There is no 64 bit download for them so , do i need any?

  • Using Latest SATA Raid Drivers When Installing Windows XP?

Getting my raid 0 setup on my K8N Neo4/SLI board wasn't as easy as it should have been. I ran into a few problem with my raid drivers that came with my system. While I was trying to install Windows XP, the system refused to restart itself even after the installation was done. A push of the reset button was necessary to help continue the install. Only after I installed the latest nForce 4 Forceware drivers was everything working the way it was supposed to. Since I would like to avoid this trouble the next time I decide to set up raid, how would I go about creating a floppy disk that contains the latest raid drivers to use for a Windows install? Thanks!

Download the manualhere. Then refer to from page 6-2, you will know how to configurate the raid.
My friend has the same mainboard as yours, so I just refer him for the information you need.

  • 2 SATA RAID drivers come with Neo4?

I don't get it.. The Neo4 comes with 2 floppy disks. One SATA RAID Driver from Silicom Image, and one from nVidia.
Why 2, is one better than the other?
And why do I need to install it? I don't use RAID, I only have one SATA disk in my system. Yet "RAID Driver" comes up as uninstalled in my Device Manager?

My motherboard has 8 SATA ports http://images10.newegg.com/productimage/13-130-484-02.JPG see? 4 orange 4 purple.
But I only use SATA1 (one purple)
Why do I need to disable the others, do they clutter up system speed? do they steal power?
Which one should I use for my single harddisk, does it make any differnece if I use orange or purple? It's like choosing red or blue pill, I have no clue.

  • K9A2 Platinum Sata Raid Problems

I could not get my 2 500 gb seagate 7200.11 drives to work on the sb600 raid controller, in raid 1 (set to raid mode in bios).  I'd set it up and it would remain functional until I formatted it and put stuff on it. Then when I restarted, it says critical and can't locate the second drive, but it shows up in the list of definable drives.  My older 200 gb seagates 7200.9 in the same setup do not have this problem.  I finally got my 500s working by hooking them up to the promise controller instead.  (Although no longer a current problem, I wouldn't mind knowing what would cause this for future occasions.)
My new problem is, I had to unhook all but the drive I wanted to install Windows XP on (A separate 120 JBOD configured drive) so I could get it to be C:/.  This all went fine.  However when I hooked up the 500s again, Windows XP would not boot, the screen just stayed black, with them not hooked up, it boots just fine, with the 200s as well.  When running the Windows XP setup again, the 500s appear as C:/ instead of the 120 in the disk select screen of the install.  It's like the 500s took over the drive letter when they are hooked up and thus can't load.  Is there some way to stop it from doing this or am I completely off on this.
    My computer spec is:
    K9A2 Platinum
    AMD X2 6000
    2*2gb OCZ PC6400
    ATI Radeon 3870
    700 Watt OCZ PSU
Update: Installing XP ignoring the fact its not C: fails.  It copies all the files onto it, then after restarting I get a black screen.
Another Update: On a whim I tried disabling the SB600 raid and set it to AHCI instead as I read that other people were having problems with it and it all works perfectly now.  It's too bad this doesn't work, but I'll just put the 200s back in my old computer instead.

I'm having the exact same problem you did. Same Mobo. Except I started off with Promise RAID 1 because when I tried using SB600 RAID, my SATA DVD drive would not function in Vista Ultimate x64. So I had my Raid 1 configured on Promise T3 with BIOS 2.8.1030.0021 using 2 320GB drives. One of them Seagate, one WD, both 3GB/s transfer, only difference was that Seagate has 16MB cache, while the WD has 8MB. But both drives worked fine in the array for some time, and then after doing some updates from Windows Updates now the Raid config shows that encountered a critial status, "A disk member of an array has failed or is not responding", "Problem is detected with Array : 1". And when I go to the see the Array status it shows the Seagate drive on ID channel 1, but for the 2nd drive it shows questions marks all the way through the item line. I checked the drive, it seems fine. And even when I go to define a second Array, it shows the WD available on channel ID 3. So it definitely see both drives, but how do I re-add that WD drive that it doesn't see to my earlier defined array without loosing data on my Seagate drive?

  • K9A2 Platinum SATA Raid driver floppy

Made the disk per directions. Choices in winXP install are X64 & X86. Manual says should be X32 & X64. I tried 86, XP installed, but wont boot. Is there more needed than what the manual states on the floppy? What drivers do you use for the promise raid. I have raid enabled. Plugged into sata 1 & 2. Using 2 raptors. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Got it working. Not sure which setting fixed it though.

  • K8N Platinum - SATA RAID issue

Hey there everyone, I have recently decided to reinstall XP on my system and I require the drivers that were included on the two floppy disks that came with my Mobo. I have recently moved houses and lost both of the disks in the process. I have tried a variety of drivers from the internet but to no prevail. I cannot remember what the disks were labeled as but Im hoping somebody out there has them!

    read Moan Guide
do you mean K8N Neo Platinum board? if yes you can find drivers which you need here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=574
if no be more specific for the exact mainboard model.

  • K9A Platinum SATA RAID issue

Hi! I'm new to the forums..I have built a new system with the K9a Plat mobo and its a great board. I can't seem to RAID my 2 WD2500YS hard drives to save my life.Though this is my first RAID attempt..(sigh) I tried changing the BIOS setting for my SATA from Native IDE to Raid, the Fast Build utility comes up showing both of my drives but I can't make any changes from there (should I be able to?) and then my system wont boot to XP. I put the SATA back to native IDE, reinstalled Windows XP using F6 to load the x86 RAID driver off of floppy, it proceeds to the XP install showing my 2 drives (C and F). I install XP on my C drive but it just installs as normal. I must be doing something wrong to run hardware RAID.
I tried to go with software RAID within XP Pro but I cant convert my C drive to dynamic, it says "one or more drives dont have enough room..etc". My F drive shows as dynamic... I'm really at a loss! I would like to run a hardware RAID 0.. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
    Gerry

I got it going! Woohoo! I wasnt sure about some of the options such as stripe size, fast init, and cache something ..heh.. I left the stripe size as 64, went with fast init, and did writethru cache. Are these OK? I'm looking for performance...
Windows XP seems to be happy..it shows the 2 drive Raid 0 array when I look at the C drive properties. Do i need to do anything else in XP Pro?
Thanks again for all the help!

  • P965 Platinum SATA II drive stuck in UDMA-5

WD Caviar 2500 SATA II drive.
Tried 4 different SATA (Intel) ports.
The startup screen that shows IRQs, etc., shows that the drive has 32 access mode off, and in UDMA-5 mode.
Sandra and HD Tune and Device Mangler all agree that the drive is in UDMA-5 mode.
However, I get burst speeds in benchmarking over 150 MB/s.
Anyone know of any tricks to get this to display as UDMA-6?

    Thanks for responding.
I tried the JMicron SATA port last night, just to see what changes.
Burst speed in HD Tach was 210 MB/s, which is interesting.
It's overall read speed was about the same.
Sandra warned that the transfer mode was 0 instead of 16 or 32. I think that's where it can transfer several sectors at once. I don't see a way to set that either for the Intel or JMicron bios.
Using JMicron, HD Tune reported a lower minimum speed...it ranged from 16 megs to ~64, instead of the Intel port ranging from 28 megs to ~64. And the graph it makes showed some huge dips at different stages of the benchmark.
So, for now I'm back to Intel SATA and just be satisfied it's over the 150 MB/s burst, and that the average of 55 MB/s is reasonable.
It sounds like this drive is pretty commonly used, and so I'm hoping more people who are using it and the same mobo can chime in that they have the same problem, or theirs works fine.

  • P965 platinum SATA issues (doesn't wait for disk spinup!!!!!!!!)

    Hi
I've recently migrated from a 2-HD setup (seagate & hitachi) that worked just fine to a single hd setup (western digital WD3200AAKS).
Now when I turn on the pc, the BIOS goes too fast and doesn't wait enough time for the disk to spin up (since the WD disk has a considerably longer spinup time), and for the first boot, there's no HD detected. It simply hangs.
In fact, i can see the line "Detecting SATA PORT 2..." for a while, but then it writes "not detected" and goes ahead.
Then if I ctrl-alt-del, it works just fine.
How can I solve this? Possibly without disabling fast booting!...
    thanks in advance
    bye bye

This is note the solution wanted to hear, but it is reasonable:  Why not dump the WD and get a new drive?   For ~$100 you can get a new 500 GB SATA drive and for the price of a little more than $100, you will have your system integrity; and you can probably sell the WD drive or use it with another MB/computer.    Something to think about maybe?  Good luck.
I've just changed it! It's a 320gb drive but it has all the bells&whistles of its 500gb big brothers! Perpendicular recording, ncq, and etc...
In fact, apart from that spin-up issue, is blazing fast, even faster than Seagates!
