Package Database, AUR, and Wiki Search - Chromium Extension

I made a Chromium (Google Chrome) Extension to search the package database, AUR, and the wiki.
You can search from the extension's icon or by right-clicking on highlighted text. (I've found this feature the most useful)
There are many configurable options in the Extension's option page and by default it will not search AUR or Wiki only the Package Database.
You can download the extension from Google here: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/de … nbhk?hl=en
Or you can get the source here and pack the extension yourself: https://github.com/FunctionVoid/ChromeArchPackageSearch
I am also considering creating Firefox and Opera ports.
Feel free to comment, complain, or contribute.

There's already the arch-firefox-search package for Firefox (no options though so maybe your extension is better...)

    HI
An entire table can be included in a database view. In this case all the fields of the included table will become fields of the view (whereby you can explicitly exclude certain fields). If new fields are included in the table or existing fields are deleted, the view is automatically adjusted to this change.
    Database view:

  • 1st package on AUR: ncmpc++

    Hi,
i just submitted my first package to AUR and would be grateful if some experienced people can take a look at it.
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19193
And btw: how do i handle the arch keyword if i expect the package to run on i686 and x86_64, but can't test it. Just set the one i know it works with and let possible testers set the missing one by themselves (that is what i did)?
    Thanks

Yes, like two months ago, no.
Second, this should have been directed to the AUR General mailing list rather than the forums.
I'm sorry but it's too much hassle to try to join mailing lists for me, it's like a curse, and I also HATE spam...
Third, if you've tried contacting the contributor and gotten no response, I would be happy to orphan it for you.
    PLEASE :D
BTW, would you please also errase this deprecated package?

Since there are already the next packages:
    - crossover-standard
    - crossover-pro
    - crossover-games
    - crossover-games-unsupported
That package is actually crossover-standard, and it makes no sense to have to copies of the same lying around you know, it's pretty confusing.

  • Refreshing package database crashes host machine

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem that I can't figure out here.
I have Arch installed on my desktop computer. This is using kde networkmanagement to automatically 'share' the Internet connection on wlan0 to eth0. The ethernet connection is to my laptop, and this is running Arch from a live CD.
I run dhcpcd from the laptop and can connect to the Internet just fine. When I run the installation framework, I can get as far as selecting packages, then when the package database is refreshed, my desktop computer completely freezes, and the database refresh subsequently times out. The same happens when i type '# pacman -Syy', independently of AIF.
I managed to refresh the package database once and carry on with my installation, then my laptop's battery ran out during the download of packages. Could this be something to do with it?
It's not possible to plug the laptop directly into the router as it is in an inaccessible location, unfortunately. All the same, I would like to delve deeper into this problem and see whether I have unearthed a bug, or my setup is at fault. Has anybody any suggestions or a workaround?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    EDIT:
OK this was a bit of a vague diagnosis from me. Using wget on the laptop results in the same crash, which rules out pacman or any software that's running on the laptop. I've also found out that using wget on http doesn't crash it, whereas ftp does. I will try using a http mirror to install Arch, then report back.

I can't remove Bing. I've tried Control Panel, the article "Removing the Search Helper Extension and Bing Bar," and I have had no luck for Windows 7 and Firefox.
I wish I could share the two screen shots I took, but this question site doesn't have the option, so I guess I'll describe where Bing is showing up.
In the left hand of my browser, just to the right of the back and forward arrows, there is speech bubble with a black eye ball or something. I found out it's Bing-related by clicking on it. There is no option to remove it with either left or right clicking on it.
Also, in the right hand corner of my browser, at the very end of all my tabs, there is a white rectangular box with an orange "b" and a magnifying glass symbol. It will not respond to anything I try to do to it either, but if clicked it opens a new tab with a Bing search dialogue box.
Finally, any new tab I open automatically opens to the Bing search dialogue box (versus Google).
I need to get specific, step-by-step instructions for removing this Bing stuff from my computer. As I said, I have already gone through all steps outlined in the article I mentioned above as well as not been able to locate Bing in my control panel.
Please help. I'm certain others are having this same issue. I use Windows 7 and Firefox. Thanks.

  • Removing the Search Helper Extension and Bing Bar

The above question has been asked a number of times already, and some replies date back 8 months or more. Sadly, whilst the
offers of help are much appreciated, they no longer seems to fix the problem, AFAICS.
My setup details, if it assists:
    Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2,00GHz
    4.00GB RAM
    WDC [Western Digital) WD6400BPVT-75HXZT1 5400 6.5GB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M video card
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 64meg onchip GPU
    Win 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1
    Mozilla Firefox v4.0.1
Having bought the above laptop, I am in the process of changing from old to new. During a mass MS update session, Firefox was
impregnated with a 'bing' search box and button [It is perfectly possible that I inadvertantly 'speed clicked' a sneaky 'install me'
button on the way]. Anyhoo, I now have said search box/button and want rid asap. The Firefox help suggests following the
advice in their item entitled 'Removing the Search Helper Extension and Bing Bar', but this shows as out of date. Furthermore, I
have no 'bing' or 'search helper extension' entries in my 'Programs & Features' applet in Control Panel, neither do I have MS
KB982217 installed to uninstall. There are no eponymous entries in Firefox's 'Tools/Addons' menu.
    Any ideas, please?

  • How to know database name and schema name by providing package name?

    Hi,
Could someonw will help me to get database name and schema name by providing package name ?
I have used the query : select * from all_objects where object_name='Package_name'; but it simply returns schema name where as i need DB name and username.
    --Prajakta

but it simply returns schema name where as i need DB name and username.
i want to retrive the DB name for package name
Based on your questions, I wonder if you are used to working in SQL Server? (The server, database, and schema are part of the 4-part  name of an object, independent of any user.)
In SQL Server, schema and username are two separate physical concepts.  "Schema" is purely logical in Oracle: a user which owns objects is often called a "schema".
In Oracle, "database" is roughly equivalent to the SQL Server concept  "server" (what you log in to).  It is not part of the naming path to a specific object  (unless there is a database link involved, but there is no indication that's what you have here).  In Oracle you connect to an Instance (or Service) and people often call this the "database", but there is a fine semantic distinction there (separate topic).
Once connected in Oracle, you fully-qualify an object by only a 2-part owner and object name (possibly 3-part if a database link is involved user.object@link).
12c added another wrinkle to all of this, but I'll assume this question was more basic than that, because you likely would have mentioned if this was a 12c question.

  • How do I create a product or item database so I can search fr the product and its files with hte pro

How do I create a product or item database so I can search for the product and its files with the products name or four digit code

Ok so I made some progress on this. I have figured out, that I can add a chained "add to cart" to certain items, then when they click the button for Buy now, it will add both items to the cart. However, this would require me to manually build each product page and generate a custom button for each one with both product IDs in it.
Can anyone offer help on how to put some JS in that would append a second function to the onclick function that BC Generates dynamically?
For the products that require a set up fee, I would assume I would add in to either the product templates or in to the item description some JS that would find the onclick of the buynow button and append a second function to also add to cart the setup fee product. The end result being code that looks like this:
    <input type="submit" class="productSubmitInput" onclick="AddToCart(188536,6314368,'',4,'','',true);AddToCart(188536,6314367,'',4,'','',tr ue);return false;" value="Buy Now" name="AddToCart_Submit" />
Except of course, the product ID on the first AddToCart would be the main product with the second one being the one appended.
Does any of that make sense? lol

This is fully covered in the documentation:
    About Database Applications
    About Websheet Applications
    About Packaged Applications
There is little difference between packaged applications and database applications, other than that packaged applications are supplied by Oracle and database applications are created by you.

  • Wiki search: possible to search uploads and/or comments?

I'm trying to find out if there's a way to enable the wiki search to include the contents of uploaded files (like pdfs, docs, or xls) or the comments posted to various web pages. I could have sworn that I read this is possible, but I don't see any means of "triggering" this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How are you using this portlet? Are you
    (a) allowing users to enter criteria to do a search and
wanting the results page to group the results or
    (b) are you using it for automatically displaying content
    via auto query portlets?
Depending on your version of portal it maybe possible to get functionality similar to what you want with multiple custom search portlets on a page. Beware, in some versions of portal there are some issues when you put multiple search portlets on a page, as they dont work independently. Therefore its not guarenteed that the following suggestions will work, but its possibly worth a try.
    (a)
    - Create a results page and add 4 custom search portlets
    - Customize each portlet
    - Set the Portlet Title to be the grouping title
    i.e Categories
    - Set the portlet so it only searches for a single results
    type,
i.e. chose category for Content typee
    - For the results page option, choose 'Custom Page' and
select the same page (this ensures a search from this
portlet goes back to the same page).
    - Now set your portlet you are using to run the search
to display results on the results page you have just
    created
    - When you perform a search, the user is taken to your
results page and each portlet should take the search
criteria and display the results of each type
    - The next and previous buttons may not work independently
between the portlets depending on your versions, if this
is the case i would suggest turning the summary off in
    the portlets
    (b)
    - similar to a, but set all the 4 portlets to be auto
query and enter the criteria. Ensure the submission
form is not rendered below the results.
    Hope that helps

  • Packages in AUR

I just completed the switch to arch of my personal desktop  (great, my new favourite distro BTW), and since I installed a few packages from AUR I was wondering what happens when the PKGBUILD there are updated? I mean how can I know (possibly automatically like pacman -Syu does) that there is a more recent version of pkg X in AUR without checking it regularly?

    erm67 wrote:
    ezzetabi wrote:No, already discussed. :S
But as far as I understood it will be done.
Since mine was a fresh install I wanted to take some risks so I modified the orphan perl script from this forum to search all installed packages that where required by another pkg and append "%REASON%\n1" to the end of their desc file in /var/lib/pacman/local/*. It worked, now all packages actually required by some other pkg are marked as installed as dependencies, if I understood well the meaning of %REASON%\n1. I personally dislike the use of non self-descriptive parameter, but as long as the format is documented, I had preferred something like "%REASON%\nManually", "%REASON%\nAuto".
It shouldn't be difficult to add it as an option to pacman or other package manager.
I am leaving for a short holiday today, when I am back maybe I will polish the script and post it.
    1) Why would you do such a thing ?
    one example :
I install mplayer : pacman -S mplayer (because I'm using mplayer on its own), now mplayer is marked as explictly installed
Later I install acidrip which depends on mplayer : pacman -S acidrip
mplayer is still marked as explicitly installed, because it was, even though it's now required by acidrip.
mplayer isn't only useful as a dependency of acidrip, it's also useful on its own.
    2) The %REASON% field isn't a parameter, it's something totally specific to the current text database used by pacman.
No user has to know how pacman works internally, just like every other programs. And the database format could be totally changed anyway.
In any cases, it doesn't have to be self descriptive, your suggestion would increase the size of the database for no reason.
It doesn't have to be documented, because the database isn't supposed to be edited directly by the user, only by pacman.
It just happens that a database in text format can be easily edited by someone who knows what he's doing, but that's all.
Edit : What is much more useful imo is the following :
    http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7193
    which has been fixed.

  • Distrib -e "Arch(org|code|pkgs|aur|forum|wiki|bugs|.*)?" -- thoughts

design the output of every tool we use to look like merge-able chains in a DSCM.
this is something i've been thinking about long before i came to Arch.  i want to see next-generation package/configuration/change management in a distributed distribution.
I am familiar with git, and most of what i have tried is relating with it; however. it's only because i know much about it.  other possibilities would be bazaar?/mercurial/fossil/etc.  i like fossil; i have not tried it but it looks closest to what i want to achieve.  i don't think it could scale to the levels we'd need however.
    ASSERTIONS
) all PKGBUILD are DSCM (git/?) based
) bugs should ride along with software, and be merge-able when branches merge
) cryptographic signatures for each user
    ) wiki for each software
) forum "channels" for each software
) P2P sharing of SCM (blobs/trees/commits in git) units
) P2P sharing of common SCM (packs in git) pack
) P2P sharing of user configs and ABS build trees; each user may host their own binary/source repo, and sign their packages)
) P2P and distribution are good
essentially, everything is a branch/tree and we use facilities of DSCM with a P2P layer above.  the arch servers could become another node in the system and a long term record keeping peer.  others could add servers.  you could open the wiki/bugs/etc offline, in a web browser, and merge later.  when you edit your PKGBUILDS, they can be forked by others and improved, maybe pushed to the core/community repos.  official repo builds could be signed by an official Arch GPG key.  bring everything as close to source as possible, and spread it out.
this is completely brainstorming right now, but i have done some tricky cool stuff with git.  i want to keep all/most of the logic/information withing the git DAG (commit graph).  i think we could do neat stuff with the git index, git grafts, and several operations could safely be done in parallel.  we could do mapreduce type calculations on the "ArchNet" to get crazy statistics and visualizations.
i intend to actually build something soon-ish-awhile.  right now im working on an app that can produce 3D visualizations in VPython from any kind of input stream... i want to hook that kind of stuff up and visualize the arch/linux/gnu/buzz.
another offshoot project for me was to use VPython (that app is really fun) to navigate and manipulate git repositories in real time.  imagine visualizing your system in 3D while working on it.  like a 3D admin panel where you overlay others configs and entire systems on to your own to see what changes/etc. DSCM can do this.
thoughts?  what other kinds of things could we do if everything Arch behaved like a P2P super-repository?

Anntoin wrote:Some interesting ideas. But you need to start small first and make a proof of concept before you try and tackle everything. A detailed plan of how packages are handled and a basic implementation would be a start for example (still not a small job though), then testing the behaviours that you are interested with that framework. You have an idea where you want to go with this but you will need to focus on a few core features and show their benefit before anyone will consider this.
ah yes of course.  the first step is getting a distributed index, and a "package" format (packages become fuzzy items, below/above); this will be realized in the form of:
    "AUR3 [aur-pyjs] implementation in python (pyjs) + JSON-RPC"
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=823972
i have a package in the AUR for that [aur-pyjs], but it's old as i haven't been able to update in awhile, and won't be until i secure a development job in my new city (next week hopefully).  aur-pyjs will be built on top of the concepts i have outlined in this thread, and will in time become prototype.  check it out; pretty neat even though it can't do much yet :-).  soon though, i will update the package, and it will then be able to run as a native python desktop app (pyjamas allows the same code to run as a website or a desktop app).  at that point, it will be trivial to implement connectivity to the old AUR/repos, and we will in effect have a pacman+aur replacement.  from there i will tackle bugs+forum, of which there are already several implementations on top of DSCM sub-systems to research and learn from.

but trying to store too many big files (ie package files) inside a VCS seems like a bad idea.  space requirements will be much bigger then what we have now, unless you make the VCS "forget" about older versions or something...
    mostly this.
the base of what you're proposing is a tremendous amount of data that would never be touched after a new version is released, how do your suggestions fit the rolling release model. Especially relatively large packages updated with high frequency (nvidia binary drivers, for instance) could cause the space requirement to increase rapidly unless moderated.
packages are not stored in the DSCM, their contents are.  the package itself is simply a top-level tree object in git, linking to all other trees and blobs comprising the package state, and a reference to said tree.  this means everything and anything that is common between _any_ package and _any_ version will be reused; if ten unrelated packages reference the same file, only one copy will ever exist; blobs are the same.  however, some packages may indeed create gigantic, singular blob type objects that always change, and this will be addressed (next...).
git compresses the individual objects itself, in gz format; this could be changed to use the xz format, or anything else.  it also generates pack files full of differentiated objects, also compressed. it would not always be necessary to have the full history of a package (if you look somewhere above, i breifly touch this point with various "kinds" of packages, some capable of source rebuild, some capable of becoming any past source/binary version, some a single version/binary only, etc.).  you would not have to retain all versions of "packages" if you did not want, but you could retrieve them at anytime so long as their components existed somewhere on the network.  servers could be set up to provide all packs, all version, effectively and automatically performing the intended duty of the "arch rollback machine".  the exact mechanism is not defined yet, but it will likely involve some sort of SHA routing protocol, to resolve missing chunks.
git's data model is stupid simple; structures can be created to represent a package, it's history, it's bugs/status, and it's information (wiki/etc.), in an independent way so they do not depend on each other, but still relate to each other, and possess knowledge of how to "complete" and find each other.  it will not be structured in the typical way git is used now.  unfortunately this is very low level git stuff, and difficult to explain properly, so i won't go there; just know that ultimately the system will only pull the objects you need to fulfill the directive you gave it, and there will be rules to control your object cache.  your object cache can then be used to fulfill the requests of others; ie. P2P.
since git itself is in a rather poor state when it comes to bindings, i will be using the pure python git library, dulwich, instead.  while in time this could be changed to use proper bindings, or some bits written as C modules, it's possible pypy will make all that unnecessary.  i don't need anything git core offers except its data structures and concepts; although, i intend to make the entire system (adding bugs/updating packages/editing wiki/editing forum/etc.) _completely_ 100% accessible from a basic git client.  for example, you could write a post in the forum by "committing" to a special branch; you could search the entire wiki, and its history from the terminal while installing; you could add a bug, and link a patch to it, directly usable and buildable by others for testing; this could all be done offline, and pushed once a connection was available... this will lead to all sorts of interesting paths...
    in one super run-on sentence:
i intend to construct a "social", 100% distributed distribution platform, where everyone is a [potentially] contributing node and has [nearly] full access to all informations, each node's contributions are cryptographically verifiable, each node may easily participate in testing/discussion or lend computing resources, each node may republish variations of any object or collection under their own signature, each node may "track" or "follow" any number of signatures with configurable aggressiveness (no such thing as "official repos"; your personal "repo" is the unique overlay of other nodes you trust, and by proxy some nodes they trust; "official repos" degrade into an Arch signature, a Debian signature, Fedora, etc.), and finally, do all of this is a way that is agnostic to the customized distribution (or other package managers) above it, or it's goals, and eventually spread to other distros, thus creating a monstrous pool of shared bandwidth, space, ideas, and workload, whilst at the same time converging user/developer/tester/vendor/packager/contributor/etc. toward: person.
    piece of cake
