Package Distribution to a Site System DP taking forever

I currently have the Distribution Point role running on the Site server (DP1) and on one other Site System (DP2). Both are configured exactly the same, running within the same Primary Site boundary and belong to the same Distribution Group.
When I distribute a package to both DP's using either the Distribution Group or individual DP's,  it takes just a few seconds for the package to distribute to DP1 (Site Server's DP) but is taking hours to distribute to DP2 (Site
System's DP). The distmgr.log shows both distributions are completing very quickly (close to the same time) but the PkgXferMgr.log shows "sending content" for each file going to DP2 and is taking an hour or more before
it completes. Can someone explain why the two DP's are distributing the same content so differently?

Hi,
Please try to increase the number of Maximum threads per package (Administration->Overview->Site Configuration->Sites->A specific site->Configure Site Components->Software Distribution). This might help you to pick up speed for distributing
package to remote DP.
Best Regards,
Joyce Li

    HI,
You will have it in a folder called \SMS_DP\sms\logs, you can also see information about package transfers in the primary site server in the distmgr.log and pkgxfermgr.log files .

  • SCCM 2012 - Change Distribution Point's Site System Properties Site Code

    Hello All,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. Here's what I have and here's what I'm trying to do.
    SCCM 2012 R1
Each of our offices has a Windows 7 SP1 Ent PC that is a distribution point for that office's 10-20 machines. A number of these offices and their DPs were setup prior to me setting up a number of Secondary Site Servers. So right now, these DPs' site codes
are the primary site server's. I'd like to change these to one of the Secondary Site Servers.
When I go to the Site System properties of one of these Win7 distribution points, the Site Code is grayed out.
So, the question is, how can I change one of these DPs' site codes?
Thanks in advance to whomever helps!!
    Bill

That's a strange reason for using Secondary Sites. How many clients are you managing? Have you good WAN links?

  • System restore taking forever

after instaling windows updates i  restored windows and its taking forever right now its at restoring rejistery and its been there for about 3 hours what should i do?
    thanks

    Yup! it is frozen.
I got the same problem with my system just last week. I tried re-do it a few times, no resolved.
I first tried with SSD, everything went smoothly until I removed the last disc from the PC and the computer started installing all original factory softwares. I left it overnight and even half of a day next day. It kept going....
I decided shut it down and re-do it with a brand new 1TB HDD, it did the same thing...
Then I tried it with another brand new 1.5TB HDD, same thing happened...
I was just about to give up, but I thought I gona give it one time try. This time I got another 320GB HDD.. It did the same.
Then I just remembered I connected all those drives to the SATA slot other than the slot that my old C: drive was connected to.
I reconnected the new 320GB to this old "C:" slot SATA and tried to restore again... guess what? It works...
    My problem solved!!!!
    Hope this helps!

  • SCCM 2007 Won't remove Distribution Points in Site Status

I'm working SCCM 2007 and have removed  some orphaned Distribution Points by going through and removing any application assigned to them and then removing the roles under the Site Systems Folder.
The Systems then disappeared from under Site Systems but when I look under Site Status, they're still appearing in the list there and I have no option to delete them.
I've tried following this link (http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/02/10/removing-old-orphaned-site-systems-from-the-sms-and-configmgr-2007-database/) and changing their replication field from a 0 to -1 which removes them temporarily but they always return
    into the Site Status.
I can't see them anywhere else in the console, they're definitely not sited under Site Systems so I'm a bit stuck and have 3 sites saying they're in a Critical State in Site Status because the Orphaned Distribution Points are still appearing there and I
can't see how to remove them.
To clarify, I removed the orphaned Distribution points over a week ago so I doubt it's something like waiting for the system to e them.  I've tried rebooting the SCCM server and this has made no difference
    My list of servers under Site Systems;
    My Servers in Site Status;

Execute the following command on the database
Delete from DPinfo where server name like '%DPName%'
It is completely unsupported to delete anything from the CM07 database. Before doing this you should contact CSS directly for support and ONLY with their guidance should you perform this task.

  • "Add Site System Role" is greyed out in the SCCM console

    SCCM 2012 R2 CU3
    Single Primary Site
Issue where “Add Site System Role” is greyed out in the SCCM console. We can install roles through PowerShell, however in the console we cannot add roles, remove roles, or change the properties of the site server.
The account we are using is full administrator in SCCM. It was used to install sccm infrastructure.
    Any suggestions

  • Deployment Packages Distribution Status

     Hi!
I have a package that was distributed to 7 sites.
4 was "Content was successfully refreshed"
3 was "Content was distributed to distribution point"
One site that has problem on that package is one of that 3 that has status "Content was distributed to distribution point".
Why they are different, once I have distributed to all sites at same time?
How can i enforce the status to change to "successfully refreshed"?
    Thanks in advance.
    Fabio Martins MCDST/MCSA Brasil!!!

What problem are you talking about?
Don't worry about the states. I have no console next to me right now, but I think the difference is that content validation ran on 3 DPs. You can also kick off content validation for that package manually. That should update the status too.

  • Site System Roles - Best Practices

    Hi all -
I was wondering if there wwere any best practice recommendations for how to configure Site System Roles? We had a vendor come onsite and setup our environment and without going into a lot of detail on why, I wasn't able to work with the vendor. I am trying
to understand why they did certain things after the fact.
For scoping purposes we have about 12,000 clients, and this how our environment was setup:
SERVERA - Site Server, Management Point
SERVERB - Management Point, Software Update Point
SERVERC - Asset Intelligence Synchronization Point, Application Catalog Web Service Point, Application Catalog Website Point, Fallback Status Point, Software Update Point
SERVERD - Distribution Point (we will add more DPs later)
SERVERE - Distribution Point (we will add more DPs later)
    SERVERF - Reporting Services Point
The rest is dedicated to our SQL cluster.
I was wondering if this seems like a good setup, and had a few specific questions:
Our Site Server is also a Management Point. We have a second Management Point as well, but I was curious if that was best practice?
Should our Fallback Status Point be a Distribution Point?
I really appreciate any help on this.

The FSP role has nothing to do with the 'Allow
fallback source location for content' on the DP.

  • SCCM and ForeFront Endpoint Protection point site system role

Thanks for looking at this......I am working with SCCM 2012, and ForeFront Endpoint Protection has been set up as an Endpoint Protection point site system role.  Up to now we just haven't had to mess with it much, it just has worked.  I
have been busy packaging applications for the eager public. I have one pc that has had the Endpoint client self destruct.  Had to remove it via the control panel.  I next did a machine policy retrieval and evaluation cycle (among others) and sccm
shows that it is aware that this particular machine needs FEP. It lists it as "To Be Installed".  How long will this take?  I have things set for "as soon as possible".   Am I at the mercy of Sccm?  Also, is there
a way to force the install?  Thanks for any light you can shed on this!

This will depend on your SCCM client policy settings to allow SCEP installation outside of maintenance windows (if you have any).
It will also depend if you are using 2 hour deployment "randomizer" option in your SCCM client policy.
Lastly, you can install it with BITS that have already been downloaded with SCCM client install.

  • Boundary Group for site assignment, shall I add My "Management Point" as a "Site System Server" in "References"

    Hi,
We have an flat singel site.
Boundary Group for site assignment, shall I add My "Management Point" as a "Site System Server" in "References"
    /SaiTech

    Yes - if it's also a DP?
The servers are added as content location servers for this boundary group. Only servers that have a distribution point or state migration point installed on them are available.

  • Firewall GPO per site system

    Hi
I am setting up a detailed GPO for firewall opening needed per site system. Is there a good overview of how to configure a firewall GPO for server 2012 R2 per site system role?
For example I need to configure a dedicated GPO for the distribution point role. Or I need to configure a dedicated GPO for the site server. All of my roles are on individual servers.
    Thanks!

How you configure the required ports is all up to you (and/ or your company standards). The ports required by ConfigMgr are described in detail here:

  • Package Distribution Failed on Specific DP

Package distribution failed on a specific DP and when i try to remvoe and add mulltiple time, it doesn't shows up any progress.
Still the DP seems to be not added in the package DP, Is that any bug?
    Below is the pkgXferMgr.log

    Thanks for your reply,
I have checked the site server is local admin on remote DP and also i didn't modify any permission of SMS_DP$ folder, it creates automatically. I able to access that folder outside the server too.
Checked the Antivirus exclusion is also there.
Last week the package distribution works fine, but today i failed to distribute package.
The strange thing is, when i try to add the DP to the package it doesn't shows me in progress tab. I tried to add the DP to the package multiple times it doesn't shows me in the report it is added.
I really don't understand this why, In 2007 SW/Distribution is simple.

  • SCCM 2012: Package distribution fails.

    Hi,
We have a package distribution that fails.
What I did: redeploy, fails again and again. So I went to distribution point properties, tab content, then removed the package.
I waited for some time but if fails again (note it is only 2 MB in size but takes like 20 minutes)!
Below the logging of what went wrong. It seems as if it has issues cleaning up the package.
