Package Source Repository on File Share

Can the SMS_EXECUTIVE Service be run using a domain service account or must it be the Local System account? Is a domain service account supported by Microsoft?
What is the best way to apply the permissions to a file share in the domain for the SMS_EXECUTIVE service to access the file Package Source Repository.
Thank you,
Shaun Sisk

  • Cannot export a transport package to a network file share

I created a network file share (T) on my Portal DEV server.
I created a transport package, and when trying to export it, I get the error below:
[com.sapportals.portal.transport.app.TransportApplicationImpl]exportList: failed to create destination directory T:\
    any ideas what is wrong?

    Hi
While configuring the pcdStartup.properties file please be aware that networkshares need a configuration with additional "\" as they are interpered as excape character...
    So for example:
    C:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\global\pcd/Import
    Becomes:
    C:\\usr\\sap\\<SID>\\SYS\\global\\pcd/Import
    Good Luck...

  • Setting permissions in File shares content sources

    Hello,
we want to crawl File Shares and set them available to searches. The set up of the crawler and the indexing is not a problem and works just fine.
The problem is that we would like to set the permissions on the results given from this content source and if possible to map the permission already on the files to the result scope. In simple words, only show the results (files) in which the AD User has
    at least read privilege.
Is this possible? and if not which would be a solution of setting the permissions to this content source?
    Thanx in advance!
    Ioannis

That is the default behavior of SharePoint search. It will automatically read and use the file ACL.
One thing to note is that often users can see files but not read them on the file system, in which case they will be able to find the files in the search engine but not open them nor see within the files.

  • Software Update Packages - the Package Source files are gone

I am running SCCM 2012 SP1. Something or someone deleted all my deployment package source files and folders for my software updates. Once I noticed they were gone, I was expecting there to be a simple way to have SCCM reload them from WSUS, since they should
still be there. However, I see no obvious way to do this in the GUI or from PowerShell. Is there a repair command for deployment packages that have lost their files?

Indeed, I just tested it in my environment and the real download won't start as long as it thinks that the updates are already downloaded.
The easiest way download them again is (if they are not all member of the same Software Update Group) temporarily add them to a SUP, delete them all from the deployment package and start the download again for all the updates in the (temporary) SUP.

  • What is the best practice for package source locations?

I have several remote servers (about 16) that are being utilized as file servers that have many binaries on them to be used by users and remote site admins for content. Can I have SCCM just use these pre-existing locations as package sources, or is this
    not considered best practice?
    Or
Should I create just one package source within close proximity to the Site Server, or on the Site Server itself?
    Thanks

The primary site server is responsible for grabbing the source data and turning it into packages for Distribution points.  so while you can use ANY UNC to be a source location for content, you should be aware of where that content exists in regards
to your primary site server.  If your source content is in Montana but your primary server is in California ... there's going to be a WAN hit ... even if the DP it's destined for is also in Montana.
Second, I strongly recommend locking down your source UNC path so that only the servers and SCCM admins can access it.  This will prevent side-loading of content  as well as any "accidental changing" of folder structure that could cause
    your applications/packages to go crazy.
Put the two together and I typically recommend you create a DSL (distributed source library) share and slowly migrate all your content into it as you create your packages/applications.  You can then safely create batch installers, manage content versions,
and other things without fear of someone running something out of context.

  • File Share does not appear as a Datasource!

I have created a File System Repository and a Index - However when I try and select a data source on the Index I can't find the file share I created.
I have set up the Folder as a Mounted Network folder!
    Hope someone can help!

    OK Phil,
First, you have to solve this problem, and then create an index.
In order to know which is the problem with this repository you can go:
    System Administrators\Monitoring\KM\Component Monitor\Repository Manager

  • App-V 5 and package source

I have app-v 4.6 in my environment now I am trying out app-v 5 at my site.  On campus 5 works just fine, however on my offsite offices I am trying to point the clients to their own file repository to stream from.  In 4.6 modifying the OSD Source
key to the offsite offices file share which works fine.  Is there a similar function in 5?  I tried to modify the PACKAGESOURCEROOT key but I am getting file cannot be found errors.  When I delete the modified value it works just fine it just

  • File Share search results not opening in Chrome or Firefox

Today I crawled a portion of our file shares without incident. Everything is looking good. Except I cannot open any file share links in Chrome or Firefox. IE works flawlessly. Is this known behavior?

File system search result link does not open on Firefox or Chrome
    Summary: The
file system connector shows URLs with "file://" protocol in search results. However, Firefox and Chrome don't open such links when clicked in result page.
Cause: Firefox and Chrome doesn't open "file://" links from pages that originated from outside the local machine.
This is a design decision made by those browsers to improve security.
Workaround: In order to enable local file access for Firefox and Chrome, please follow the steps as described below.
Please note with security risks caused by enabling such access.
    Firefox:
    Open Firefox.
Enter about:support to the address bar.
    Click Open Directory for Profile
    Directory.
Create or open user.js and add the following lines:
    user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "localfilelinks");
    user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.sites", "file:///[[PUT
    SERVER NAME HERE]]";);
    user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.checkloaduri.enabled",
     "allAccess");

    Please advise,
    Thanks in advance

    Hello Esther,
the problem seems to be that the temp folder of the target Integration Builder system can't be found:
'The system cannot find the path specified
    at [..] FileAccess.getTempDirectory([..])'.
You'll experience the same problem if you try a file based import or export within the Integration Builder directly.
I would recommend to continue the search there. You could check if the environment variables (for Windows: TEMP and TMP) of the OS of the system with the target Integration Builder to an existing path. Check also if the WebAs can access this path.
    Good luck

  • SCVMM 2012 R2 VM on SMB 3.0 file share cloning is not offloaded and painfully slow

I setup a test environment, it appears the SCVMM always use BITS to clone VM that was painfully slow
SCVMM1: SCVMM 2012 R2 with the latest windows update
VHOST1 and VHOST2: Hyper-V Host. Windows Server 2012 R2 with the latest update
SERVER1: Windows File server, with Windows Server 2012 R2 with the latest update. The storage is a single 512GB SSD.
All VMs are located at a file share on SERVER1, the share is managed by SCVMM1 also.
All computers have plenty of RAM (8G+) and modern processor. The individual I/O benchmark on SERVER1 is typical SSD speed.  Each VHOST has dedicated NIC for VM use. Each
server has two gigabit NICs on same switch for data.
    The step to reproduce:
    1. Create a Windows 7 x86 VM on VHOST1 and install OS on it.  The VM is placed on the SERVER1 file share.  It runs well. no problem, VM performance is good.
    2. In SCVMM console, right clicks the VM and select "Create Clone", the deployment target is on the same SMB share as the source VM.
Actual:  It appears SCVMM clone the VM files with BITS, it is painfully slow. All data travel through network. Estimated 30 minutes for 30GB file!
Expected result: SCVMM uses SMB 3.0 to make the copy. The source and destination are on the same SMB 3.0 share. The transfer of data should be offloaded by SERVER1, instead of reading all data then write it back cross network. (And from unknown reason the
BITS is even much slower than network file copy).
Did I miss anything? Any way to force SCVMM to do such offload copy?  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi acacac1,
    >>Actual:  It appears SCVMM clone the VM files with BITS, it is painfully slow. All data travel through network. Estimated 30 minutes for 30GB file!
Did you try to disable BITS then clone the VM again for test ?

  • Exchange Server CCR 2007 unable to see the File Share Witness resulting in mailbox failover ?

    Hi people,
Here's my Exchange Server 2007 SP3 in the ideal and normal situation:
Mailbox Server (CCR – Stretched Cluster) Nodes
    PRODEXMBX01-VM (Active Mailbox, Quorum) – 10.1.1.53
    DREXMBX01-VM (Passive mailbox) – 192.168.1.88
Hub Transport and Client Access Server Nodes
    PRODEXHTCAS02-VM – 10.1.1.54
    PRODEXHTCAS03-VM (FSW holder) – 10.1.1.55
    DREXHTCAS02-VM – 192.168.1.89
Saturday early morning, for some unknown reason the Active Mailbox Server (PRODEXMBX01-VM)
cannot access or see the FSW on the HT server PRODEXHTCAS03-VM, thus
the mailbox gets failover to the DR Mailbox server (DREXMBX01-VM).
    Here’s the Events logged:
    Log
    Name:      System
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering

share witness resource 'File Share Witness (\\PRODEXHTCAS03-VM \FSM_DIR_ExMbxCluster01)'
failed to arbitrate for the file share '\\ PRODEXHTCAS03-VM \FSM_DIR_ExMbxCluster01'.
Please ensure that file share '\\ PRODEXHTCAS03-VM \FSM_DIR_ExMbxCluster01'
exists and is accessible by the cluster.
    Log Name: System
    Source: Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering
    Event ID:      1177
    Task Category: None
    Level:       Critical
    User:     SYSTEM
    Computer:PRODEXMBX01-VM.domain.com
    Description:
The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost.
This could be due to the loss of network connectivity between some or all nodes
in the cluster, or a failover of the witness disk.
    Run
the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the
condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the
network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to
which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.
So I had to perform manual failover back from DR to production so that both Active mailbox and the Quorum
are held by the Production Mailbox server (PRODEXMBX01-VM).
On Sunday Morning, the Event ID Critical 1564 occurred again thus causing only the quorum only to failover
to the DR mailbox server (DREXMBX01-VM) but the Active mailbox role is still held by the Production Exchange server (PRODEXMBX01-VM).
So now the situation is like the following:
Mailbox Server (CCR – Stretched Cluster) Nodes
    PRODEXMBX01-VM (Active Mailbox) – 10.1.1.53
    DREXMBX01-VM (Passive mailbox, Quorum) – 192.168.1.88
Hub Transport and Client Access Server Nodes
    PRODEXHTCAS02-VM – 10.1.1.54
    PRODEXHTCAS03-VM (FSW holder) – 10.1.1.55
    DREXHTCAS02-VM – 192.168.1.89
So what causing the mailbox servers unable to contact the File Share Witness?

Did you check the blog above?

\\PRODEXHTCAS03-VM\FSM_DIR_ExMbxCluster01. Please check the permissions. Try giving full permission to admins as well (just to try)

  • Search server express Content Source Type for file download

    Hi All
We have recently installed Search Server Express 2010 in our organization. Now we want to create content source to search from our file server files.
Have used “File Shares" as "Content Source Type", and now this is working perfectly fine. But whenever we try to download the
files which are there in search result we wont be able to do that.
As well as search result shows the complete path of the file on file server.
Please let me know how to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Should be much faster than that. Make sure you have an index on the KEY column (or, if a view, on the underlying column that the view is created on). Otherwise it will do a full table scan for each row it fetches.
    2. 40 threads sounds a little high - we found the optimum level was between 10 and 15 threads. Have you checked the memory usage on the system? Perhaps all your threads are causing your system to page.
    3. The column returning "LastModifiedDate" determines whether the content for that row needs to be reindexed. If LastModifiedDate is unchanged since the last crawl, the row will not be reindexed.

  • File Share Search problem with Compress file

I have a content source in SharePoint 2013 search which crawl files from a file share. Some of the files have "Compress contents to save disk" attribute set to true.
These files are being crawled as I can see them in Crawl logs. But when I search for these documents in search center, it only return the documents which don't have compression attribute set.  I have even tried searching document title. Any idea?

    Hi Rashid,
What keyword did you use for searching the compressed file?
As your description, I set a file as the below:
Then I created a File Share content source pointed to the folder which contains the file, then start a full crawl.
After crawling, I went to my search center, and searched, the result was:
When you search the compressed file, check whether the item title returns a part of the content of the document.

    Hi,
The answer for this is , it depends . I mean it depends on the Project Requirements, Organization , Company Policy etc..
So some project may implement these file servers as a part of the SAP system itself.
But many are not .. Because as per security rules, etc, there will be separate FileServer outside the SAP Landscape , but will in the same system landscape. So XI/PI will communicate this directly via FTP connections . So this folder will act as a FileServer.
for a XI developer, generally these file location informations will be given. so you need to pick or drop the files over there
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Moorthy
