Packages in Grid Control

Hi
I am trying to install Grid control 10.2.0.1 on CentOS 4.
[root@grid ~]# uname -a
Linux grid 2.6.9-67.0.15.ELsmp #1 SMP Thu May 8 10:52:19 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
I have the following packages missing:
compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2
libstdc++devel-3.4.3-22.1
openmotif-21-2.1.30-11
I have used yum but its not working for these packages and also these are missing in the CentOS CD. I tried few url's but I cannot fing the above mentioed packages.
Can someone please point me to the url from where I can download these packages?
Regards

Thanks for your time and reply Hans.......
The actual packages that I listed are not available at the url you mentioned but I checked and mt test passed:
rpm -q glibc glibc-2.3.4-2.13
rpm -q make make-3.80-5
rpm -q binutils binutils-2.15.92.0.2-15
rpm -q gcc gcc-3.4.4-2
rpm -q libaio libaio-0.3.103-3

rpm -q sysstat sysstat-5.0.5-1
rpm -q gnome-libs gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-44.1
rpm -q libstdc++ libstdc++-3.4.4-2
rpm -q libstdc++-devel libstdc++-devel-3.4.4-2
rpm -q compat-libstdc++-296 compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2

rpm -q control-center control-center-2.8.0-12.rhel4.2
rpm -q xscreensaver xscreensaver-4.18-5.rhel4.9
but
even after a reboot the oracle installer shows the warning for the above mentioned 3 packages(In first post).
Well, I ignored the the warning and then installer fails and the error in the logs is:

  • Installing Grid control

    Hi,
    I have oracle 11gR2 database on windows 2008 with 64 bits. There is no package of grid control on OTN for windows 64bit. So can anyone suggest me how should I start?
    1. Do I need to install the grid control on some other server and then access all the databases from that server?
    2. Also since doing for the first time I wanted installation guide on windows. I did not find the readme of grid control good.
    Thank you,
    Myra

    Hi Myra,
    The OMS on Windows is only supported on 32 bits, see note: Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Certification Checker [ID 412431.1] on support.oracle.com
    So it is best to use a 32 bit Windows server.
    We have one 32 bit W2008 server running OMS and the database without a problem. But you can put the OMS and the Database on different servers.
    The minimum bandwidth between the database and OMS should be at least 1Gb/sec (maximum latency 30 ms), this should these days not be a problem.
    Thus, you can use the 64 bit database you have now, or create a new DB + OMS on one 32 bit Windows server.
    In Master Note for Grid Control 11.1.0.1.0 Installation and Upgrade [ID 1067438.1] you will find the example How to Install 11.1.0.1.0 on MS Windows 2003
    A difference of using W2008 compared to W2003 is that you have to run executables (setup.exe) with the "run as administrator" option.

    Its too early to conclude the issue is a bug with out looking into the logs. For the same reason i requested you to open an SR so that we can have a look at the logs and identify the cause.  If you are Oracle employee then you can share the VM details else we need logs to debug this further. If any one from your company can open an sr and share logs then that will be helpful. Can you also check if the shiphome that you downloaded is all correct and checksum/byte matches to what is mentioned on OTN.

  • What are the Grid Control basic features  (without the licensed packages)

    Hi everyone,
    I'm all new to OEM Grid Control and I've been asked to write a document that sums up and explains all the OEM features (Database ones only).
    The reason I created this thread is because I have a problem doing that. Indeed, Oracle insists on their licensed packages in their documentation and doesn't make very clear what's available without any of those packages.
    I've been looking for some other documentation than Oracle one but without much success.
    I really have to know the features available without those packages because I've been asked to determine whether or not Diagnostic Pack, Tuning Pack and Configuration pack are necessary (i.e If we have to purchase the licenses)
    So could anyone tell me precisely what's available without those packages or link me some sources I could use?
    Thank you very much in advance
    Olivier

    Hi Erika,
    Unfortunately, it appears to be true: to be able to get notifications and alerts, you need to have the Diagnostics Pack license. Reference the following document: Oracle Enterprise Manager Licensing Information 10g Release 4 (10.2.0.4.0) Chapter 2: Enterprise Database Management:
    The Diagnostics Pack includes the following features, which you can use after purchasing a license for the Diagnostics Pack.
    Automatic Workload Repository
    Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM)
    Performance monitoring (database and host)
    Event notifications: notification methods, rules, and schedules
    ...In the document that you have cited, I think that "standard" and "out of the box" simply mean that Oracle has these alerts and notifications preconfigured for you when you install the software. But to actually use them, you need to have the appropriate license.

  • Installing EM Grid Control 10.2.0.3 with Database 10.2.0.3 On RHEL4 U3 & U4

    Note: This is not an official document, it discusses Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (EMGC) installation on Redhat Linux Update 3 & Update 4 with new database NOT with an existing database. Both OS Updates were installed with FULL PACKAGE INSTALLATION option. Oracle Universal Installer creates the database automatically before creating the EMGC repository.
    •     For Linux the base version of the EMGC is 10.2.0.1 and for Windows platform it is 10.2.0.2.
    •     The database release is 10.1.0.4 with EMGC 10.2.0.1.
    •     When installed it creates three Oracle Homes: 1) db10g (database), 2) oms10g (Oracle Management Service), and 3) agent10g.
    Course of Action:
    To get to Oracle EMGC 10.2.0.3:
    •     Install EMGC 10.2.0.1
     Upgrade Oracle Home oms10g to 10.2.0.3.
     Upgrade Oracle Home agent10g to 10.2.0.3.
    To get to Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.3:
    •     Oracle Database 10g 10.1.0.4 will get installed by the OUI automatically
     Upgrade Oracle Database 10g to 10.2.0.1 in new Oracle DB Home.
     Upgrade new Oracle DB Home to 10.2.0.3.
    ====================================
    Installing EM Grid Control 10.2.0.1:
    ====================================
    To install EMGC 10.2.0.1 download all the three files: Linux_Grid_Control_full_102010_disk1.zip, Linux_Grid_Control_full_102010_disk2.zip, Linux_Grid_Control_full_102010_disk3.zip from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/linuxsoft.html.
    If you have unzipped all the downloaded zip files in separate directories then the very first error message slammed at your face after starting the installation will be something like “OUI-10133: Invalid Staging Area. There Area No Top Level Components”. All you have to do is to unzip all the three files in the single directory (Metalink 395030.1).
    After unzipping all the files in the same directory follow the steps that are given on the follow URL.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gemgc_10202/install/install.htm
    BUT the problem is that you will be punched with few other error messages during the installation that will terminate the installation. The WORKAROUND is given below.
    There are three stages of the installation by OUI:
    1.     Installation of EM Repository Database 10.2.0.1.
    2.     Installation of EM Grid Console 10.2.0.1.
    3.     Installation of Agent 10.2.0.1.
    The first stage completes without any problem and on the OUI you will see: Oracle Enterprise Manager Repository Database 10.2.0.1.0 installed. While installing the Grid Console, during copying files for "Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2" at 90% OUI will pop up an error message "An error occurred during runtime." You will see lines similar to the following lines in the installation log files.
    INFO: Calling Action SpawnActions10.1.0.3.0 Spawn
    installcommand = /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/bin/OracleAS_Relink_Patch.sh

    INFO: Exception thrown from action: Spawn

    Exception String: An error occurred during runtime.
    Exception Severity: 0
    Problem:
    There is a bug which is still being worked on by the DEV : Bug 5203165 : Abstract: CANNOT EXECUTE ../oms10g/bin/OracleAs_Relink_Patch.sh AT INSTALL
    Note that this is an unpublished bug, not viewable via Metalink. The bug apparently occurs only on RHEL4 (32bit) Update 2 and Update 3 (I faced the same thing in Update 4 as well).
    Workaround:
    •     Leave the error message as it is and change the execution permission of the script OracleAS_Relink_Patch.sh.
    $ chmod +x /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/bin/OracleAS_Relink_Patch.sh
    •     Now press Retry on the error message pop up window. The installation will resume.
    On the same stage while linking at 90% one another error message will pop up “Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/sqlplus/lib/ins_sqlplus.mk'”.
    Problem:
    Hitting bug : 5203194 :Abstract: RELINK FAILS ON 10.2 GC INSTALL -LIBCLNTSH.SO: UNDEFINED REFERENCE TO NNFGTABLE
    Bug is not published in Metalink. As per the description: Installing 10.2.0.2 Grid Control on RHEL4 Update 2 or Update 3 (I faced the same thing in Update 4 as well). This generates an error in the linking phase. The error is generated while attempting to relink sqlplus.
    Workaround:
    •     Stop installation of all components.
    •     Restart the installation and pick the option to resume the installation.
    •     This allows the installation to complete.
    If by any chance you press continue instead of stopping the installation you should get ready for the garbage OUI is going to throw at you:
    Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk'
    Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/network/lib/ins_nau.mk'
    Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/webcache/lib/ins_calypso.mk'
    During Setting up 'Perl Interpreter 5.6.1.0.2d'
    An error occurred during runtime
    During Setting up 'Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2'
    The OPMN Process Manager failed to start. Please check the logs in the /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/opmn/logs directory for the cause of failure. Once the cause of failure has been remedied, start OPMN manually and click Retry.

    OUI-25031:Some of the configuration assistants failed. It is strongly recommended that you retry the configuration assistants at this time. Not successfully running any "Recommended" assistants means your system will not be correctly configured.
    1. Check the Details panel on the Configuration Assistant Screen to see the errors resulting in the failures.
    2. Fix the errors causing these failures.
    3. Select the failed assistants and click the 'Retry' button to retry them.

    Upgrading EM Grid Control 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3:
    ====================================
    I hope after installing EMGC 10.2.0.1 you are still intending to upgrade it..... :-D Now for that download GridControl_10.2.0.3_Linux.zip from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/linuxsoft.html and follow the README.txt file included with the upgrade patch. Before starting the upgrade you will probably have to apply a patch (4329444) on the existing database (10.1.0.4). Anyway, its one of the prereq that you have to complete.
    For upgrade follow the steps given on the following URL.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gemgc_10203/patching/patching.htm
    •     Keep one thing in mind that you will have to apply the above mentioned patch twice. Once for oms10g home and once for agent10g home.
    •     Stop all the EMGC related services.
    •     When applying the patch to a particular home change the ORACLE_HOME to that home. E.g. when applying the patch on the oms10g home:
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/10.2.0/oms10g
    and for agent10g home:
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/10.2.0/agent10g
    ====================================
    Upgrading Database from 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.1:
    ====================================
    Download the file 10201_database_linux32.zip from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201linuxsoft.html.
    •     Shutdown all the EMGC related services, the listener, and the database.
    •     Start the installation of 10.2.0.1.
    •     Since 10.2.0.1 is a base release that is why you cannot install it in the existing Oracle Home i.e. in db10g. You have to define a separate Oracle Home for the new installation say db10gR2.
    •     During the installation it will ask you to upgrade the existing database 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.1, click YES.
    •     Hopefully the installation will go just fine.
    ====================================
    Upgrading Database from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3:
    ====================================
    Download the file p5337014_10203_LINUX.zip from http://metalink.oracle.com.
    •     Shutdown all the EMGC related services, the listener, and the database.
    •     Start the installation of 10.2.0.3.
    •     During installation it will ask for the Oracle Home, give the new Oracle Database Home i.e. db10gR2 and proceed.
    •     Hopefully the installation will go just fine.
    •     Start the database, listener, and all the EM GC related services:
    o     $ORACLE_HOME/../oms10g/bin/emctl start em
    o     $ORACLE_HOME/../agent10g/bin/emctl start agent
    o     $ORACLE_HOME/../oms10g/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
    •     Try accessing the EMGC through the browser http://xyz.abc.com:4889/em
    •     You will see two Oracle databases in the EMGC, the old one, 10.1.0.4 and the new one 10.2.0.3. Don’t worry it will not bother you at all. It will only occupy a GB or so. Though, you can remove it through OUI.
    Congratulations!!!! you have now Enterprise Manager Grid Control 10.2.0.3 with Database 10.2.0.3 on RHEL 4 Update 3.
    You can repeat the same exercise for RHEL4 Update 4 as well, but during pre-installation checks you will get 1 warning that:
    Checking for compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for libstdc++devel-3.4.3-22.1; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for openmotif-21-2.1.30-11; found openmotif-2.2.3-10.RHEL4.5. Failed <<<<
    Actually, these packages are already there in the OS but the higher versions. It is evident from the above messages that first it “founds” the package but due to the version conflict it says that “Not found”. All you have to do is click on the check box next to warning, it will change to User Verified or something. Now press Next and follow the same steps that we followed for Update 3.

    The quicker way is to use sofware only method to install 10204 oms and dirctly use 10203 datbase directly as a oms repository.
    Check the section Installing 'Software-Only' and Configuring Later

  • Installing Enterprise manager grid control 10.2.0.3 on RHEL 5 64Bit

    I'm not able to install OEM Grid control 10.2.0.3 on RHEL5 64BIT and cannot find a document for the installation.
    Could anyone give me here all the steps for this installation : all the package requirements or a link to achieve successfully the installation.
    Thanks in advance

    Be careful, if you have an older environment or a large variety of database versions in your install base the 11g version of OEM may not support them.
    Follow these instructions (from My Oracle Support) to install the 10.2.0.3 base and patch up to 10.2.0.5 on RedHat 5:
    If the link doesn't work, it's article 784963.1. Do not follow the installation guide or release notes from technet - they are incorrect and will only work for RHEL 4 and lower.

  • EM10gR2 Grid Control / Change Management Pack does not support TYPE objects

    I wonder any Oracle EM10gR2 Grid Control users, implementing Oracle Change Management Pack, have used it for the release and proper packages management.
    Issue1 - On an EM console / Web GUI the DDL comparison and synchronization is not supported at all. Implementing it @ customer it appeared that we have to install a 10g Java Client in order to use the code comparison and sync functionalities.
    Issue2 - and this is more serious - it appears that even with Java client in use, you cannot compare or sync objects related to TYPE or TYPE BODY data types. The comparison simply hangs.
    Asked help from support, they mentioned an ER from 8i and logged a new ER for 10g/11g. That is surprising especially as the doc (http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A96679_01/toc.htm) about code comparison does not exclude the TYPE objects from the supported options.
    Any fellow DBA running to a same problem? What solutions & recommendations might you have?

    Hi Mugunthan,
    Can you provide links to any tutorial or example (screenshots) of using Setup Manager to transfer something between two environments (say Users or DFFs)?
    Thanks,

    I've got 10.2.0.3 grid control running on Suse Linux 9 32bit, and a 10.2.0.2 Suse Linux 9 64bit agent. There's no problem with this config, except I can't get the administration page to work.
    When I click on a server target and then go to the administration page, I get :
    "To administer a host through Enterprise Manager, you will need to install the following scripts. Follow the steps below and click 'Finish' button when you are done.
    Step 1 Install EM Wrapper Scripts from http://oss.oracle.com
    Step 2 Install the SUSE patch for YAST from http://oss.oracle.com
    I've done both of these things, installed the yast package and used the new ag_tty perl script. Even rebooted the server and restarted the agent - no joy, it still keeps insisting that I do the above. Pressing finish does nothing.
    Do I need to wait for the 10.2.0.3 64bit agent for this, or am I missing something?

    Bug:
    Workaround or Resolution
    The patch Patch 5858325 is now available in METALINK.
    This patch is for Generic Platforms and must be applied in the Grid Control (OMS) ORACLE_HOME.
    Please follow the instructions given in the README to apply the patch.
    Note: if you have several OMS, you need to apply the patch in each OMS ORACLE_HOME.

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 5

    Hi All,
    Has anyone here already using Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 5? Currently we are using Release 2 of Oracle Enterprise Manager as a package upon installation of Oracle 10g. Curious about Release 5 I want to try it out in our Dev Environment. But before making any changes. I would like to ask guidance from you.
    Upon installation does it needs Operating System Patches, Packages etc.? Currently we are using AIX 5L Based Systems (64-Bit) and 10g for Database. Is this a complete installation or Just an upgrade?
    Regards,
    Dexter

  • Building reports around grid control database.

    As a part of Grid control support activity many times we need spend hours to verify if all the targets have been assigned rules and thresholds so that they can generate alerts well before the trouble occurs.
    So i was wondering is there any way by which which can write some script that will scan all the targets and find out which are not assigned to rules.
    I am not sure if i can access these information from grid control database.
    Can somebody help me in this ? is there any way to find out which rules have been assigned to which target or what is the threshold assigned to a particular targets by writing sql query / using oracle packages ?
    Appreciate help in this regard.

    Here is some sql I use for this purpose..

  • Linux OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.1.0 installation issue

    Just a heads up to anyone installing Linux OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.1.0
    If you are doing a full install, the "product specific prerequisite checks" page will show an error on the following packages even if you have them installed.
    compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2 (failed)
    libstdc++devel-3.4.3-22.1 (failed)
    openmotif-21-2.1.30-11 (failed)
    Note that the installation works fine if you ignore the "missing" prerequisites. I believe the check itself is flawed. The openmotif check should be openmotif21-**** (extra hyphen incorrect in check - the old install was openmotif, now openmotif21), the libstdc++ needs a hypen added before the devel, and the compat-libstdc++ has yet another issue.
    This is something the developers at oracle will have to fix.
    Steve

    Yes, you must download and install the 10.2.0.1 version and then patch it up to the 10.2.0.4 version.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gem/install/index.html
    The above link shows you the install routine when using a new database, the steps for the existing database are only slightly different, all you need are the connection details for that existing database and you should be ok.
    As for taking full backups of the Grid Control repository, I know many choose not to, space is always a big concern, but this depends on how critical your repository is to you. If you need it for the auditors, well then I'd suggest acquiring some more hard disks to up your space.

  • Grid control 11g falling over on oms on OMS Configuration step

    I've attempted to install grid control 11g on Solaris 10 (SPARC 64 bit), everything is fine until the installer gets to the OMS Configuration step, this bombs out with:-
    Executing the OMSCA command...
    Check the OMS Configuration Assistant logs at: /u01/app/oracle/product/Middleware/oms11g/cfgtoollogs/omsca
    Configuration assistant "OMS Configuration" Failed
    Strangely no omcsa directory ever gets created, however in the /u01/app/oracle/product/Middleware/oms11g/cfgtoollogs/cfgfw directory, I gets lots of files with time stamps exactly the same as the time of the failure containing:-
    Check the OMS Configuration Assistant logs at: /u01/app/oracle/product/Middlewa

    VM.
    The JVM being used is the 32 bit one that comes with WebLogic server 10.3.2 for Solaris 32 bit, as there is no 64 bit version available. Can someone please advise as to how I get around this ?, do I need to download and install a 64 bit JVM after web logic has been installed ?, does this need to be a 64 bit JRockit JVM ?

    Yes you can download the 1.6_18 JDK from the archive, however, if you extract is as the instructions recommend, these are the packages you get:-
    drwxrwxr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWjavadb-javadoc
    drwxrwxr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWjavadb-docs
    drwxrwxr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWjavadb-demo
    drwxrwxr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWjavadb-core

    drwxr-xr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWj6rt
    drwxr-xr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWj6man
    drwxr-xr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWj6jmp
    drwxr-xr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWj6dmo
    drwxr-xr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWj6dev
    drwxr-xr-x 4 10 143 512 Dec 18 2009 SUNWj6cfg
    The 64 bit run time comes in SUNWj6rtx which is not present, this can be obtained with version 1.6_21 of the JDK, however by doing this, the installation is no longer that of a pure 1.6_18 JDK.

  • Grid Control 11g R1 installation error OUI-10133

    Hello All,
    I'm installing Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Release 1 on SUSE Linux 10 x86_64. Here I'm facing an error *"OUI-10133:Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Linux available for Installation in this staging area."*. Installation packages were downloaded from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/linuxx8664soft-085949.html. All three zip files are fully downloaded, verified and unzipped. Someone in internet said these zip files should be extracted in one directory. But I see some folders exist in all three unzipped folders are same but contain different files. If I put them in one directory they would be overwrote. What should I do? Please suggest. Thanks in advance.

    Guangming DuanHello Guangming,
    You need to unzip all files into a same directory. Don't worry about folders. Unzip tool will extract the files into the correct folders (will not overwrite the content of the folder).

  • Grid Control 11.1 install problem libXtst.so.6: cannot open shared object

    I have a new server installing Grid Control 11.1. Linux RHEL 5 rel 2 64 bit. Installed database 11.2.0.1 on this server (applied patch set 9352237). Installed JDK 1.6 (following note 1063587.1) and WebLogic 10.3 (note 1063112.1). When launching the Grid Control installer, I'm getting the following:

    libXpm-3.5.5-3.x86_64I know this is just a DISPLAYor xterm issue, but I can't figure out what the issue is. The installer for the database (11.2.0.1) in the same session launches without error. I've tried running the installer with --ignoreSysPrereqs passed and same issue.  Is there a library mismatch somewhere?  Is the installer for Grid Control that much different from that of Database 11.2.0.1 (apparently, since the database installer launches while grid control doesn't).  What obvious things am I missing in checking?
    Edited by: kellypw on May 11, 2010 11:17 AM

    I too had the same issue on linux. Check whether libXtst package is installed or not. Also, close the existing session and open a new window after the installation of the package.
    Package "libXtst (i386)" in RHEL/OEL 5 will be automatically installed with "Default RPMs" installation type. If RHEL/OEL 5 is not installed with "Default RPMs" Installation type, then please install missing package "libXtst (i386)" and then re-try.
