Packages vs, Receipts Folders in Library

Hi!
Could someone explain to me the difference between the install packages in the Packages Folder and those in the Receipts Folder? They look identical, except that the install packages in the Receipts Folder are much smaller. I also know that the packages in the Receipts Folder are necessary for Software Update and Disk Utility to work. Is it possible to reinstall software updates from the install packages in the Receipts Folder?
Thanks!
LHM

Hi Raf,
This is what I know--which isn't a whole lot. I hope someone out there knows more.
When you download an update from Software Update and choose to install from the Software Update box, the update is downloaded and installed and an small version of the install package is placed in the Receipts folder. I don't think that it is a full install package and that is what I am trying to find out. All along I was thinking that these packages would come in handy if I ever needed to reinstall a program and then update without having to download. I was even saving them to an external drive.
Then recently I discovered this:
If you choose to only Download (or Install and Keep Package) from the pull down menu of Software Update, a larger install package is placed in the Packages folder. When you install from this package, it remains there and a smaller version is placed in the Receipts folder. So in this case, it appears that you have an install package that you can reinstall from, which is what I want.
I am guessing that when you install directly from the Software Update box, a full install package is not saved anywhere and "spirited away" to never-never land!
Again, if anyone out there has information on this I would really appreciate it, Thanks!

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
Click Go then move the Conduit/Library/InputManagers/CTloader file to the Trash.
The same for /Library/Receipts and /Library/Application Support
    Check these folders as well.

  • Can't find mail download or mail preference folders in library, where are they?

Can't find mail download or mail preference folders in library, where are they?

adding backing vocals is a feature, I can't find them or how to do it.
The backing vocals are software instruments, listed in the "Choir" section of the software instrument browser. Afaik, the basic GarageBand does not have these instruments. My "choirs" all came with the JamPacks. The JamPacks are no longer sold separately, but if you buy Mainstage 2, you will get all Jam pack instruments and loops to be used with GararageBand; and it is not very expensive (~23 € at the AppStore).

  • Can't delete folders in Library mode

I cannot delete folders. I have selected a folder in Library mode but I can find not way to delete it. It seems that I can remove it from the catalog but not delete the folder and the files. Is there a way delete a folder and all the files contained in it?

Yes, but you have to delete images in the folder first. You can delete files within Lr. When the folder is empty Lr will allow deletion of the folder.
I have no idea why Lr requires you do it this way. I suppose it is a safety feature. Mass deletes of folders and their contents could be dangerous.

  • Adding Folders to Library in Windows Vista

I have recently replaced my notebook with one running Windows Vista, and have a fairly annoying problem with adding music to my iTunes library.
All of my music is stored in a shared folder on the hard drive of a different computer on my home network. The folder (and all of its contents, down to the individual MP3 files) are visible from the notebook. In fact, I can choose the "Add a File..." option in iTunes, and browse to and select individual songs to add to the iTunes library.
The "Add a Folder..." option chokes (and does nothing) when I tell it to expand the "Network" choices.
Similarly, when I go into "Preferences..." and try to set the networked folder as my default iTunes folder, I get the same browsing window, and it refuses to show me any of the four computers on the network when I attempt to expand the "Network" selection.
I have found that I can drag-and-drop folders of songs from the networked drive straight into iTunes, but this is really a clunky fix, and it doesn't help me designate the networked folder as the default folder to save new music files.

Not sure if I made myself clear. I meant the folder where it stops, minus the one before it.
Might be something to report to Apple support. Since it works if you drag it over...something's wrong. The music data is the same but the method iTunes is using to get at the data is different.

  • Adding folders to library fails to complete

    Hello.
After upgrading to iTunes 5.0.1.4 I noticed much of my library entries had disappeared.
I then attempted to re-add my hard drive files by doing a File | Add Folder to Library, like I always have done in the past. iTunes will then add up to 1,722 songs (11.62 Gb), then stop. It just stops like it's finished the process -- no error, nothing.
It adds the files as they are sequentially stored on my drive. I was able to locate the point at which the adding stops. I removed what I thought might be the offending folder from the storage device, then re-attempted. The next time, it stops at the very next folder.
I was, however, successful in loading all the folders by dragging & dropping "My Music" folder into iTunes.
    Anyone, anyone??
    Bueller, Bueller??

  • 'Add files/folders to library...' comes up short

Long long long time MusicMatch User and have started using iTunes thanks to Pepsi's promotion.
When trying to import my existing music into iTunes, the process comes up about 20% short. A vast majority of my song files are in mp3 with a handfull of unprotected wma's which have already been converted by itunes.
Continue to do either 'add files' or 'add folder', even dragging individual files doesn't work.
Is there a limit to the number of files in the iTunes library, or a limit to the number of folders down a file can be?
The files it seems to be skipping are completely random. Of the ones I've tracked down specifically, all but one or two song from an album will have imported. But when there are about 500 songs that are not importing, I haven't looked for a pattern yet.

    Some thoughts to offer:
I remember reading here that some songs or folders may not get 'Added' if their titles or other info had special characters that iTunes could not import. Sorry I could not find the post to reference. You may want to investigate this in your music files.
There is a way to try the 'Consolidate' and recover from it if it changes your ID tags. Make a backup copy of the iTunes database file (the .ITL file in the 'iTunes' folder). Run the consolidate feature. It will make copies of the files on the PC, not move them. If you do not like the results, then replace the current .ITL file with the backup one and your iTunes will be as before. You just need to delete the copies of your music files.

  • Lightroom 3 not creating folders in Library module

Normally a folder corresponding to the directory I imported my images from is added to the FOLDERS bar in the LIBRARY module.
I didn't realize until today, when I tried to go back to some older photos, that since the beginning of August LR has not been creating a folder with each import. The only way to navigate to those photos is using CATALOG -> ALL PHOTOGRAPHS.
I tried adding a folder with the "+" but that just tries to import photos that are already in my catalog.
Is there a setting that changed? Is this a bug?
    Thanks,
    -Andy

Ah, well, that makes sense.  If you are "adding" them, then the images themselves are merely being referenced, and LR will not create new folders for them, but use the folders you already have them in.  So in order for them to be in the correct format, you'd have to have them in the correct location you want them referenced as.
If you do, indeed have them in the proper format as you listed, then your most likely problem is you are selecting only the bottom layer, i.e, the final month folder for import.
If you want the entire import path to show up, I believe you have to select the top level one, and use "include subdirectores" to let it find them below that.
This will, of course, scan all of your other folders under there, and most likely identify lots and lots of duplicates, which it will then ignore.  But it will take a bit longer for the software to relalize it already has them and uncheck the ones it thinks it knows about.
From my point of view, doing something similar, I use "move" instead to get it right without having to scan all the potential duplicates.  It doesn't take much more time if the images are on the same disk already.  Moving between disks adds time, but on the same disk it doesn't (effectively, anyway).  It also means that the images get put into the date/format under my top level project automatically, I don't have to create the original structure to begin with. I just load them all into one directory on the same disk, hit import, select the top level project they go into, and let it organize by date.  It displays on the large import window what directories it will be creating and how many images will go in each one.
Anyway, I think that should give you the right ideas!
    Cheers!

  • Mail folders in Library are a Mess!

    1) I have a G5 and a G4 laptop both with the same Mail POP accounts set up in Mac Mail of each computer. The only way I have found to sync the two is manually (I do have .mac I don't use it as I have never figured out the syncing) - I go through the same manual process with regular folders as well as with mailboxes in the Library folder under Mail.
    2) I literally transfer the .emix messages from one computer to another and checking the dates they were created helps me to identify which ones I move.
    3) I keep track of all of this in my head and it has basically all worked up until recently when it seems to be getting the better of me. When I rebuild my mailboxes on the laptop they no longer seem to contain all the messages I need or they appear but say "download from server"
    4) Also, when I push the Sent Mail airplane icon on the G5, it takes about 3 minutes for my messages to appear and I have 29, 714. What I don't understand is where they are stored. The ones which appear in the mail Application I cannot find as .emix messages. And in the Mail folder(in Library) in SENT in Messages it says there are 118, 398. So why can't I see all these in the Mail app.
    5) My question is - what do I do now and how do I sync in the future. Would Smart Mailboxes help me - I can't figure out how?
    6) And last - I have 4 duplicates of each message - so how do I get rid of these (maybe this why I have 118,000) . I have Duplicate annihilator and it doesn't work - I think it would take 3 weeks for it to go through them all..
Any help would be much appreciated...

    1) In my desktop Mail app I have 3 pop accounts set up and including my .mac account which is set up as a POP - does this make any sense? I want all 3 of these accounts synced - is this possible?
You cannot sync POP account mailboxes with the server. Received messages with a POP account are downloaded from the server by the email client used to access the account. The account settings in Mail and with other email clients such as the Mail.app provide for removing received messages from the server when downloaded but the account's Inbox mailbox in Mail or with any email client is not and cannot be synchronized with the server. Synchronization with the server is available with a .Mac type or IMAP account with Mail or as an IMAP account with other email clients.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostOfficeProtocol
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMAP
To utilize the IMAP account sync function with the server requires accessing your .Mac account as either a .Mac type account or as an IMAP account with Mail. To change the account type for the account will require deleting and then recreating the account in Mail selecting .Mac or IMAP as the account type when recreating the account.
Before deleting the account, create an "On My Mac" location mailbox in Mail - one to be used for the account's Inbox messages and one for the account's Sent messages. At the menu bar go to Mailbox and select New Mailbox. Since you are accessing POP accounts only with Mail at the present time, "On My Mac" will be the only location choice available. Enter a name for the mailbox and select OK. Repeat for the additional mailbox or mailboxes.
Transfer/move messages from your .Mac account's Inbox mailbox to the user created mailbox designated for the account's Inbox messages and do the same for the account's Sent messages.
When deleting an account with Mail, the account's mailboxes in Mail are also deleted at the time.
    2) When I turn on the Sync with mac options - it works for my address book but not for my mail accounts?
Don't confuse the two sync functions - really 3 different sync functions available with a .Mac account.
    1) .Mac or IMAP account access with Mail and/or with IMAP account access with other email clients such as Mail on your Mac or on a different computer.
    2) Syncing Bookmarks, Calendars, Contacts, Keychains, Mail Accounts (Mail account information only) and Mail rules, signatures and smart mailboxes. This provides for keeping the same information available and kept synchronized with multiple Macs. I also have an old TiBook G4 and all this information is kept synchronized for me on both Macs.
    3) Keeping iDisk storage information synchronized.
All 3 are different and separate functions.
    3) And what I don't understand is that nowhere does it say it will sync my folders/mailboxes - simply my account settings, rules etc...
True because what is says is all that it does. You cannot keep the mailboxes for different email accounts or user created "On My Mac" location mailboxes in Mail (which are stored locally on the hard drive) kept synchronized with the .Mac account server. You can keep .Mac account server stored mailboxes synchronized with the server only.
    4) I bought SyncTogether which is a syncing software only to realize that it wouldn't sync my MAIL FOLDERS/MAILBOXES ( like SENT MAIL and the dozen or other folders I have) - it does the same as .mac sync and syncs simply the settings and accounts and smart mailboxes which I don't understand how to use...
Sounds like you wasted money on software for features included with a .Mac account.
    5) I separate all my incoming mail into folders/mailboxes and then either have rules sort it or sort it myself..I need my mailboxes and I need to be able to access them from both my macs...I never use the online .mac mail - I just use it from my desktop -
When accessing a .Mac account as a .Mac type or IMAP account with Mail, you can also create server stored mailboxes for the account with Mail. When creating a new mailbox with Mail, you will also have the account name to choose from as a location choice (in addition to "On My Mac") when creating a mailbox. You can choose .Mac account location (server stored) mailboxes for your rule criteria.
You can also move/transfer existing "On My Mac" location mailboxes to the server.
After deleting and then recreating your .Mac account as a .Mac or IMAP account with Mail, you will also have a .Mac account icon in the mailboxes drawer. This is for server stored mailboxes with the exception of the account's server stored Inbox mailbox which will be located and remains under Inbox in the mailboxes drawer.
When creating a server stored mailbox for your .Mac account, it will be created and located under your .Mac account named icon in the mailboxes drawer. You can select/drag an existing user created "On My Mac" location mailbox under your .Mac account named icon in the mailboxes drawer which will copy the mailbox and contents within to the server.
All account mailboxes under your .Mac account icon in the mailboxes drawer in addition to the account's Inbox mailbox under Inbox in the mailboxes drawer will be available and kept synchronized automatically with Mail on both Macs and when accessing the account as an IMAP account with another email client on your Mac or on a different computer.
I access my .Mac account as a .Mac type account with Mail on my Mac and as an IMAP account with Outlook Express on my PC notebook running Windows XP at work. All server stored account mailboxes including any user created server stored mailboxes created with Mail or with OE are available and kept synchronized automatically with both email clients and all server stored mailboxes are also available when accessing the account via webmail using a browser. Any server stored mailboxes created via webmail access will also be available with Mail.
5A) Should I be creating Smartmailboxes instead of Mailboxes? From what I could understand, this won't really help me as it just virtual.
Smart Mailboxes will not help in this regard. Smart Mailboxes are virtual mailboxes only but any new Smart Mailbox created with Mail on one Mac will also be available with Mail on the other Mac automatically as part of the .Mac sync function for Mail Rules, Signatures and Smart Mailboxes.
    6) and last - how do I upload to my .mac account? Is syncing through .mac different than Idisk - where does Idisk come in?
First part of this question already answered - select and drag an existing "On My Mac" location mailbox to/under your .Mac account named icon in the mailboxes drawer which will copy the mailbox and messages within to the server.
Think of iDisk as a separate server stored hard drive which includes .Mac account server stored mailboxes and messages which go against your total available iDisk storage space. Check .Mac account Help on the server when logged in to your .Mac account via webmail access using a browser or search the Help function locally on your hard drive.
    7) Thought I was finished but - one more question - .mac sync only has a certain amount of storage on it - is the only way I can have all my stuff in sync to spend lots of money on more storage space...I have thousands of messages in my mailboxes...so what do I have to archive those somewhere? And how do I do it?
A .Mac email account has a default amount of server storage space allocated which you can change/adjust. You have 1 GB total iDisk server storage space available to you as part of a .Mac account which includes email account storage.
I have 120 MB of storage space allocated to my .Mac account but I can allocate more or less as I need and see fit but this goes against your total 1 GB of total iDisk storage space available.
Since I have 120 MB allocated to my .Mac account, this leaves me 880 MB of iDisk storage space available for other such as for Apple's Backup software to keep backup data stored on the server, iWeb for iWeb created websites and for your .Mac account Public folder which you can use to place large files, etc. for others to access and download which are too large to send via email.
You probably don't need to store every single message that you received and sent not deleted on the server so at some point you may need to decide which messages need to remain on the server and if you want to keep all messages on the server, you will need to purchase additional .Mac server storage space when you exceed 1 GB total for everything stored on your iDisk combined.
When I reach my allocated 120 MB, I transfer received messages that I want to keep but no longer need on the server from the account's Inbox mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox. This process stores the transferred messages locally on the hard drive AND also removes the messages from the server at the same time.
Log in to your .Mac account via Safari and check your .Mac account preferences there. I believe it is under the same area as your billing information, etc. where you can adjust your total 1 GB iDisk storage space between email and iDisk up or down.

  • Deleting Empty Folders from Library

When I first got Lightroom I uploaded a random bunch of folders of images. Now I wish to upload everything (which I have put into a single folder) so that I can retain the hierarchy of folders within folders that I have developed for storing my work on a dedicated hard drive.
I therefore selected all of these random folders of images and removed them from the Library (it took 45 minutes). But now I find that while all of the image files have been removed, all of the empty folders that contained them are left in the "Folders" folder in the library.
My question is, how can I remove all of these empty folders prior to uploading my hierarchical folders of files? In other words, how can I start over again from scratch? (I have upgraded to Lightroom 1.1)
    Thank you.

Thank you all for your suggestions. What I finally did was to right-click, as suggested by Mel, on each folder (it wouldn't work for me when I selected them all) and select "delete" from the resulting drop-down menu. It took awhile, as there were a lot of the buggers, but now I'm clean and ready to go!
    Again, thanks.

some buggy 3rd party software is known to do that. I've heard some Epson printer drivers can do this and some Adobe apps. harmless but annoying. you can safely trash those folders but they may come back.
Also permissions for all folders at ~ level read drwx------+ - is the + normal for these folders?
yes, that's quite normal. it means ACLs are present. there are "everyone deny delete" ACLs on all those folders. you can list them usong -e switch for ls.

  • Sort Folders in Library by Date or other sort options

I find myself hunting for folders that I've imported in the Library module.
It would be so nice if there was an option to sort folders in the Library by date imported or date last edited or ANYTHING other than alphabetically. Seems like a easy and really obvious fix.
    Thanks!

I too use folders as a primary means of organization. In fact, if Lightroom did not support folders, it would have been a deal breaker - I absolutely would not have bought it, period - its that important to me). We are perhaps a dieing breed - but not dead yet.
I use collections extensively too for organization, but more for special purposes as opposed to a "lowest common denominator of organization" (folders).
That said, I name my folders so they show up in the order I want them too - i.e. use a prefix (e.g. numeric) and they'll always be ordered properly. Interesting note: Lighroom is smart enough to auto-detect numeric prefixes and order them correctly without needing to pad with zeros (e.g. '2 Day After New Years' will come before '10 Resolutions - Holding Firm'). However, plenty of other software is not, so I pad anyway (e.g. '02 Day After New Years'... - that way they show up in the correct order when served via DLNA or anything that has alphabetic ordering but is not "numeric-prefix-smart" like Lightroom.
PS - One of the functions of my up-n-coming Lr-sidekick-app/plugin duo is a (possibly full length) folder pane (which would generally be placed on an auxiliary monitor) - so folders are available in develop mode too. I may add a folder-sort option, although I don't need it m'self.
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Behaviour of folders in library mode

    Hi folks,
when I am in the library mode and close all my subfolder everything is fine. Now I rename a folder and several folders and subfolder pop open.
    Why?
Does someone has the same behaviour?
    Greetings from Germany
    JK

    folder problem in library:
whenEVER I delete a folder, perhaps an empty folder. from my library, the following happens:
the folder disappear but every folder in my library is automatically opened and the main library folder is selected. I have to close many folders and      find my next folder that I planned to work on. very aggravating!
This must be part of a set of bugs.

  • App-V 5.0 Package and system folders

Hope someone can help me, having a weird issue with an App-V package that I've sequenced. I am sequencing an application on Windows 8 x64, and during install the application adds .dll files to the
c:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder. My sequenced machine is a VM with a saved snapshot, so for testing I revert back to the snapshot and expand the package to the local system. The program runs fine on the sequenced machine, and all the .dll files
appear correctly in the SysWOW64 folder.
When I go and deploy the package to a workstation (also running Win 8 x64) I get
missing .dll errors and the files required are not in the SysWOW64 folder. I tried editing the package and under
Package Files tab, changed the SystemX86
folder to Override Local Directory. Still this does not solve the problem.
What I don't understand is that it works perfectly on the sequenced machine, but does not for a workstation on our domain. Is there an issue with adding virtual files to protected folders? Or is there another way I can get this working?
If anyone could help me with this issue, I would be greatly appreciated. It's sending me mad!
    Cheers!

I have the same problem with Casesoft TimeMap 4 and Notemap 2.  No joke, cmen.dll is supposed to be in c:\windows\syswow64 but the virtual file system in AppV puts it in {systemx86}.  I'm not sure what path that resolves to but these two programs
cannot find it where it's supposed to be.  If I add a file from c:\windows\system32, the variable is {system} and if I put it in c:\windows\system, it puts it in Windows\system in the VFS.
I tried forcing the path to be Windows\SysWOW64 but appv auto creates the path when you select the file and won't let you edit it manually.
I ended up making a cmd copy installer since it has simple copy protection of a plain text registry key

  • Duplicate folders in library

all the sudden i have multiple copies of same tv shows in my library. i'm not sure, but suspect it happened when i tried to import a tv show from a back up disc; but not sure. example: i have 3 different sections in my library for lost, each one having a few episodes in it (although none are duplicated). this is a problem because i have like over 100 covers / folders in my tv show library now? any helpo would be much appreciated. thanks,

thank you guys for your input. i haven't figured out how to move the tv shows from one folder to another; example, if i wanted to move episode 3 of lost from one lost folder to the other lost folder (which as more than one episode in it), i don't know how to do it.
i have tried to drag it, but when i'm holding it, i can't scroll up to get to the other folder. it's crazy, i tried in windows explorer and there does not seem to be more than one folder per show in i-tunes folder. seems it only shows this way in i-tunes. it may not sound like a big deal, but boy is it frustrating having so many folders of the seam show, never know if maybe there's an episode i haven't seen somewhere else. i have to scroll up and down a lot trying to ascertain that i'm not missing anything.
    thanks again guys,
