Packaging Illustrator files with AppleScript

Is there not an AppleScript command for Illustrator to package a file?  I use this extensively in InDesign and was trying to make a workflow for Illustrator files.

The Package command is only usable in the Creative Cloud versions of AI. Don't know if it has been added to the Apple Script commands.

    CS5 – Where can i find an example of an illustrator files with variables, linked to an xml file. We want to export it immediately to .pdf format when the file is linked. Is this possible? The illustrator help files are not so clear about this matter.

    Follow the Help documentation's steps to create at least one of each of the four supported types of variable bound objects.
    Capture the DataSet.
    Edit the bound objects' content.
    Capture the DataSet.
    Save Variable Library. That's your XML file.

  • Please help! I defragged my hard drive and now Illustrator CS6 is trying to open all of my complex Illustrator files with a "Text Import Options" box as if they are text files, and they are not opening!

    Please help! Illustrator CS6 started trying to open all of my complex.ai files with a "Text Import Options" box as if they were text files, and they are not opening!  Help!

    Hi Monika,
    I have spent the last two or three days trying to do what you suggested.  I uninstalled Adobe 6 from Windows.  Some files that CS6 placed on my system during installation remained, including fonts and .dll files.
    I had to abandon the Cleaner Tool you suggested because in one screen it allowed me to specify removing CS6 only, but on the following screen it only gave on option to remove ALL Adobe programs.  I could not do that because I didn't have the serial number handy for CS3 in case I want to reinstall it at some point.
    I tried to get technical help with the Cleaner Tool problem but no definitive help was available, so I reinstalled CS6 again without having the benefit of the Cleaner Tool.  I tried to get the serial number for CS3 so I could use the Cleaner Tool but spent 2 wasted hours in chat.  Even though I had a customer number, order number, order date, place of purchase, the email address used AND 16 digits of the serial number, in two hours the agent couldn't give me the serial number.  After two hours I had nothing but instructions to wait another 20 minutes for a case number.
    Illustrator CS6 is still trying to open some backups as Text and otherNone of the problems have been fixed.  I have tried to open/use the .ai files in CS6 installed on another system and am getting the same result, so I don't think the software was damaged by the cleaner.  The hard drive cleaner is well-known and I've run it many times without any problem to previous versions of Illustrator or any other programs.
    When I ordered, the sale rep promised good technical support and gave me an 800 number, but after I paid the $2000, I learned that the 800 number she gave me doesn't support CS6 and hangs up on me.  Adobe doesn't call it a current product even though they just sold it to me about 3 weeks ago.
    Would appreciate any help you experts can offer.  If I can't solve this, the last backup I can use was from June and I will have lost HUNDREDS of hours of work and assets that I cannot replace.
    Exhausted and still desperately in need of help...

  • Placing an illustrator file with "white" objects add process black to PDF

    Ran into this problem today with InDesign CS5:
    I am trying to create a document with only one (spot) color, pantone 293 in this case.
    Placed some illustrator files in this document, all of them also only contain pantone 293. However, they also contain some "white" objects. Now my problem appears to be that "white" in illustrator is defined as "0% gray" by default. So when I export my document as PDF from inDesign, i get a PDF with both spot color pantone 293 and black. Strange thing is, I tried making the "white" objects 0% pantone 293 instead of 0% gray, but the PDF still exports with black process color.
    Just plain telling my printing company to ignore the black process color altogether would be foolish i guess, since there are objects underneath the illustrator files which need to be knocked out by the "white".
    Any ideas?

    If the problem isn't a profile conflict as Peter suggests, you might try setting up a preflight profile for 1 spot color that will catch uses of CMYK black. When you export a PDF from ID the CMYK channels always exist in the exported PDF, so you may need a preflight check to make sure CMYK plates are empty.
    This allows only 1 spot color, defined as Lab. Any use of black would throw an error:
    Here the white box is defined as Paper 0|0|0|0 CMYK and I get an error
    Defining the box as 0% Orange is OK

  • Can you open an existing illustrator file with the application default settings?

    I need to open a customers illustrator files that he sends me with the default application settings, not the setting he saved with his file.

    CS6 (Mac) but soon CC.
    What is happening is they are saving the files with among other things, print scaling set to something other than 100%. If one of our operators does not catch it, the plate files are ripped at a smaller size than what they should be.
    This customer does thier own production work and sends us "plate ready" files but sometimes forgets to change this setting back to 100% (he changes the scaling to something that will fit on a letter size page so he can check his separations).
    I seem to recall (from years ago), there was a way to open a file using the applications default settings, not the settings saved within the file itself.

  • Uploading a File with AppleScript via JavaScript

    Hi everybody,
    being new to AppleScripting and JavaScripting I'm faced with the following problem:
    Is it possible to make AppleScript to input the path for a file to be uploaded via JavaScript? If yes, what should be the correct Path Format and how to wrap it up the JavaScript action into AppleScript? I've tried a few comands but to no success.
    On the webpage in question, there's a "Choose" button, that is defined as follows:
    <input type="file" class="gwt-FileUpload" name="swfFile">
    I've been trying to use the following syntax:
    do JavaScript "document.getElementsByName('swfFile')[0].value('Macintosh HD:Users:myaccount:Desktop:Scrapbook:!动画.swf')" in document 1
    as well as this one, where the Path is definitelly understood by shellscript:
    do JavaScript "document.getElementsByName('swfFile')[0].value('/Users/myaccount/Desktop/Scrap book/!动画.swf')" in document 1
    The name of the file is (and must remain) in chinese, but for testing purposes I have also tried files with english names, without success.
    Currently I'm using a solution with JavaScript comand:
    do JavaScript "document.getElementsByName('swfFile')[0].click()" in document 1
    to click the finder  window to browse for the file, and manipulating  keystrokes by using System Events to find the right file, but it's not  infallible with a number of files and it's hardly an ellegant sollution.
    Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
    Cheers!

    @twtwtw
    the do JavaScript "document.forms[0].submit()" command didn't work, so I kept the original way of submitting by clicking the button. The submitting part works, but not the input file part.
    That's the code I used
        tell application "Safari"
            do JavaScript "document.getElementById('gwt-uid-13').value='on'" in document 1
            do JavaScript "document.forms[0].elements['swfFile'].value=" & "'" & SWFFilePath & "'" in document 1
            do JavaScript "document.getElementsByClassName('gwt-SubmitButton')[0].click()" in document 1
            delay 1
        end tell
    with SWFFilePath set as the POSIX path as well as the default file format
    Macintosh HD:Users:myaccount:Desktop:Scrapbook:!动画.swf'
    but it did not work.
    If you've got the time, feel free to upload an .swf. The service is free and the server delats uploaded files after 15 min. (if you don't have any, you may try an empty .txt file instead - it won't get converted, but the point is just to get it into the input box).
    In the meantime, I'll have a look at adayzdone's suggestion. It's not perfect (the downside being that it requires the window to be active, so I can't run the script in the background or with my screensaver & password on), but it's still more reliable than my sollution with navigating arrowkeyes.

  • Edit Illustrator symbol with AppleScript

    Hello,
    Does anyone know if it is possible to edit an existing symbol in an Illustrator CS3 document with AppleScript? Specifically, what I'm trying to do is this: I'd like to manually create an Illustrator document that uses the "3D Extrude and Bevel" effect to map symbols to the surfaces of the 3D object. Then, I'd like to programatically open that Illustrator document, edit the existing symbols (so the surfaces of the 3D object are updated), and finally export an image.
    From what I've found in the AppleScript documentation PDF, I'm thinking this is not possible since it lists all the properties of a symbol object as read-only. But perhaps I'm overlooking something?
    If it is not possible, is there another way of doing what I'm trying to achieve?
    Thanks!
    Ben

    Ben, could you not have just swapped your symbols? like:
    set symbol of every symbol item to symbol "Foo"
    Justin, if it is essential that you need to crack open a symbol item then it may be possible using system events to expand the item may even be possible with a action for this part?
    This works for me. It is set to work with what items i know are available to my test doc.
    {1 symbol of >2 path items, 2 gradients swatches}
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
    activate
    set Doc_Ref to the current document
    tell Doc_Ref
    set x to width / 2
    set y to height / 2
    set ruler origin to {x, y}
    -- Make new layer to trash later
    make new layer at beginning with properties ¬
    {name:"Opened Symbol", visible:true}
    -- Place the symbol item you want to open
    make new symbol item at beginning of layer "Opened Symbol" with properties ¬
    {symbol:symbol 1, position:{0, 0}}
    -- Select the item
    set selection to symbol item 1
    -- Use system events to drive the GUI
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "Adobe Illustrator"
    tell menu bar 1
    click menu item "Expand..." of menu "Object"
    delay 0.1
    keystroke return
    delay 0.1
    click menu item "Ungroup" of menu "Object"
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
    -- List your items to edit
    set Symbol_Items to every page item of layer "Opened Symbol"
    -- Edit what ever you have here
    set fill color of path item 1 of layer "Opened Symbol" to {gradient:gradient 1}
    set fill color of path item 2 of layer "Opened Symbol" to {gradient:gradient 2}
    -- New group
    set New_Group to make new group item at beginning of layer "Opened Symbol"
    -- Move edited items into new group
    repeat with i from (count of Symbol_Items) to 1 by -1
    move (item i of Symbol_Items) to beginning of New_Group
    end repeat
    -- New symbol from group
    make new symbol at end with properties ¬
    {name:"My New Symbol", source art:New_Group}
    -- Replace instances
    set symbol of every symbol item to symbol "My New Symbol"
    -- Clean up
    delete every page item of layer "Opened Symbol"
    delete layer named "Opened Symbol"
    delete symbol 1

  • Packaging  jar  file with classes

    Hi experts,
    I want to clarify a problem in relation with packaging .class files in jar file making
    it jar executable.I was able to achieve this when number of classes are limited and confined to only a single program.However recently i developed a software
    which is very much like SQL*Plus and retriee my company database using screen buffer management and i have handled almost all the issues.
    But so long to execute this program i am typing
    java <Program name>.It is using Oracle as backend.
    I tried to package Oracle driver files in jar using
    jar -cmf manifest.mf sqlpad.jar *.class Oracle\
    where Oracle directory contains all the class files in separate folders like
    Oracle\javax etc
    I get a jar file with hefty MBs size.It is executable too.But when i try to connect to
    database, i get message Oracle driver class is not found.
    In what way should i package it as jar file ?

    I wouldn't add the drivers to the JAR itself. Instead, I'd suggest one of the following:
    1.) Add classpath entries into your manifest file pointing to the drivers' JARs
    2.) Create a batch file for starting that contains a call to "java -classpath ..."
    3.) Add some way to your app to configure additional classpaths at runtime and use a URLClasssLoader (and a wrapper class for the driver for registering with the DriverManager) that loads the driver's class

  • Creating 'packaged' SWF file with Flash Prof

    Hi Experts,
    I have a simple requirement, however, I have spent some time trying to find a solution to it and I'm a novice so would be v grateful from input from those more experienced.
    Firstly, I've created with Adobe Captivate an SWF file which I have been able to reference in an aspx page and when I view the website, it runs fine (no other file is referenced to run this).  Example of the below code in the aspx page I have created:
    object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"
    codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"
    width="500" height="400" id="Untitled-1" align="middle">
    <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
    <param name="movie" value="progressive2.swf" />
    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="bgcolor" value="#aaaaaa" />
    <embed src="MY_VIDEO.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff"
    width="500" height="400" name="Untitled-1" align="middle"
    allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
    </object>
    My objective is this. I have a final edited FLV video file. I also have Flash Professional. What I want to do is create a single SWF file (like with the Adobe Captivate example), which will include the video and the skin for the progress bar, volume etc and then reference this in another aspx page for the website.
    I want to be able to have the same 'packaged' SWF file, as in the captivate, created from this FLV video. In Flash Proffessional, I've imported the FLV into the 'stage' and added a skin through the wizard.  But trying to publish or other options, I've not been able to get this single 'packaged' SWF file to run correctly in the website, via the same apsx code as above.
    Am I missing a trick here?  I would presume it would be fairly simple as I don't want to edit the video, more I want to embedded it with a skin in the one SWF file. I would be grateful for any pointers.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Mark

    You wrote  "I've imported the FLV into the 'stage' and added a skin through the wizard" from this I conclude that you choose the deafult option, that says "load external video with plyback component" (only this one offers you a skin wizard). But when you deploy that swf to a server it still needs the flv source (search Help for FLVplayback), and even the Skin (its an extra swf) must be depoyed to the server. What you instead want to do is option 2: embed FLV in swf. There are some disadvantages to this solution: the longer the video, the more probable it is, Audio and Video will get desynchronized, and: you can`t use Adobes premade skins for the controls

  • Illustrator files with Charts in them become corrupt

    I keep running into an issue where I create a file in Illustrator (some of them are detailed infographics), and if they contain a chart, such as a bar or pie chart, they become corrupt and Illustrator gives me an error "Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an illegal or misplaced operator."
    Then it opens the file, but much of it (anything below the chart) is missing. I've been able to restore *some* of my work by exporting a PDF version of the file to an EPS, but I lose a lot of my formatting. This is extremely frustrating, as I am losing hours of work each time it happens. I spoke with a customer service agent about the issue months ago, and even sent her a corrupt file, but never heard anything back.

    The last time I made one of these infographics that ended up being corrupt, I saved as both an .ai and .eps. Both ended up being corrupt when I re-opened them. The best fix I've been able to find is to turn all charts into regular graphics by ungrouping them, and saving that. But it's not a great fix since sometimes, I need to go in and adjust the data later on, which you can't do if it's ungrouped.
    I work from my hard drive, not a server
    I use a legal version of helvetica
    No plugins
    I (luckily) do usually create PDFs but if there was a corrupt graphic in them, they won't open in Illustrator. I have to open in Adobe and export as an .eps, and when I open that, the text is often outlined or each line of text is a separate object.
    When you say "link to another illustrator file," do you mean using the Place command? This might be possible but as you said, not very practical since with an infographic, I'll want to have multiple charts and will need to edit and adjust them on the fly, not open a different file each time then go back and forth to see if it looks right.
    I don't have CS6
    Basically I am really hoping Adobe comes up with a fix for this bug. I've been creating charts for a long time, but have never had this issue where the file becomes corrupt until now. And when you pay monthly for upgraded software, you expect better, not worse, performance :-/

  • Package Illustrator files

    I have Illustrator CS6 for Windows. I want to package files. I have looked under Adobe Help: Illustrator Help | Package files and this help says (my Italics):
    "This feature is available in Adobe Illustrator CS6, CC, and later. To join Adobe Creative Cloud, see Adobe Creative Cloud.
    You can gather the files you’ve used, including fonts (except Chinese, Korean, and Japanese) and linked graphics, for easy handoff. When you package a file, you create a folder that contains the Illustrator document, any necessary fonts, linked graphics, and a package report. This report, which is saved as a text file, includes the information about the packaged files
    Choose File > Package.
    The option Package is NOT available on my FILE menu and I have all the latest Illustrator updates.
    Thank you in advance for whatever information you can provide.
    Philippa

    Thanks for your answer. May I say to the Adobe help writers, the instructions do not make it very clear that CS6 stand-alone does not have this capability.
    I am using the stand-alone version but can you tell me the difference?

  • Find a file with AppleScript

    Hi everyone !
    Is there a way to find a file using AppleScript ?
    The "find" command in the finder seems not working or I have a problem with the syntax.
    In an other hand, I dont find any way to script Spotlight...
    I hope I am wrong
    Any idea will be welcome
    JPaul

    Hi Jeanpauld,
    It works fine.
    As the final use is in a FileMaker pro data base, I
    prefer this solution.
    Glad to hear the script worked for your particular situation.
    In which dictionnary can I find SpotlightSearch ?
    "SpotlightSearch" is just what I named the subroutine of the script. You could name it whatever you like but I figured that would be a good name for it since it uses the spotlight technology to perform the search.
    As Joseph Briggs pointed out the best way to get information about the mdfind command used in the do shell script portion of the SpotlightSearch subroutine is to use the Terminal application. Launch the Terminal and type man mdfind.
    If you have any further questions regarding this command please feel free to ask and I would be glad to try and help you through it. There's quite a bit that can be done using the mdfind command!
    Thanks a lot for your help !
    Anytime Jeanpauld.
    Sorry about not replying to your response sooner but the new discussion forum format is refusing to email me letting me know when my subscriptions get updated. I used to rely on that feature and will have to keep my own eye on my subscriptions for a bit while Apple works out the bugs in the new forums.
    Take care Jeanpauld...

  • Can't save illustrator file with text.  Can't update, uninstall or reinstall.

    I suddenly cannot save a simple illustrator file that contains any text.  Also, I am unable to update, uninstall or reinstall illustrator.  This is frustrating when you have projects due.  Mac Mini - OS X 10.8.3

    Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, reinstall. Also check your fonts. You probably have a "bad" font i nthere somewhere that is corrupting all font operations.

  • Edit/update config file with Applescript??

    am trying to read the file and then trying to change the values of the same with permissions, pls suggest how to write the same file with permissions.
    The below script gives me the values as shown below, i need to change those values like aaaaa to 1, pls suggest.
    set fileContents to {}
    set x to ""
    set filepath to POSIX path of "Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Macromedia:abc.cfg"
    try
        open for access filepath
        set fileContents to (read filepath)
        close access the filepath
    on error
        return false
    end try
    fileContents
    output :
    "aaaaa=0
    bbbbbbb=0

    If you want to write to the file you need to open it with write permissions
    open for access filepath with write permission
    Ideally you should store the result of that command as a reference to the opened file:
    set myFile to open for access filepath with write permission
    now you can read the data:
    set fileData to read myFile
    You can erase the file by setting the EOF to 0:
    set eof myFile to 0
    (otherwise writing to the file appends data, rather thatn overwriting it)
    You can write data to the file:
    write "blah blah blah" to myFile
    and close it when you're done:
    close access myFile
