Packaging Indesign Folio Issue

Hi,
I have been working on my articles from my desktop and have now 'Packaged' the articles to a server. However, now when I try to update any of the articles I get:
An error has occurred while updating article layouts.
The InDesign file for the layout cannot be found.
All the links in the Indesgn files are linked, so i can't see why DPS is not liking these files. I have looked at past threads about this and people are saying to update software - I can't do this due to the issue with Adobe Viewer in the new update.
Everything worked fine before I packaged the files, and they were updating as they should. What do i do to fix this?
Thanks.

If you can't update to a version which has the "relink" function, you may try to remove and add your articles one by one. Or, if you have proper folder structure and naming conventions – recreate the folio by deleting the old one, creating the new one and importing multiple articles at once. If you try first with adding a single  article and it doesn't work, there is also possible that the new path to your files is not understood by DPS (special letters, etc.).

  • InDesign Folio Builder Passwort Limitation

    Hi,
please do NOT move this to the DPS Threads as it is a InDesign Software Question/Problem.  (only move it, if the programming folk doing the Folio Producer thing lives at DPS)
I have already started a thread in DPS Forums how to overcome the problem with DPS.  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4854578#4854578
This is a InDesign Software Question/Issue
InDesign CS6 Windows (sorry) Version does limit my DPS Password to 6-12 digits.
InDesign/Folio Builder Version: current, all updates applied
Unfortunately, I use a 13 digits password (Let me say this: on one hand i am forced to make my passwords longer and more complex all over the web and on the other hand sofwtare programmers limit the number of digits i can enter).
The DPS server, in detail Adobe-IDs, perfectly allow to be > 12 digits.
    - Is there any way to overcome this limitation?
I also post this with my heart full of hope that InDesign Folio Producer AddIn programming folk sees this or get informed about this issue and might loosen the limitation in the next patch and provide this tomorrow morning to me
    cheers
p.s. changing the password does not solve my problem, it is more complex....i need to use that 13 digits pw on folio producer

Digital Publishing Suite is produced by an entirely different software team than InDesign. I don't believe that the dialog you're showing us (which I can't read because I don't speak German) has anything to do with InDesign.
And, even if it did, this forum is not a way to make a feature request. No product managers come here. This is a forum for users. I'd suggest the Adobe Feature Request form would be the best way to reach them.

  • Endless Log-In Error : InDesign Folio Builder Panel

I updated my folio tools/panels to 1.1.9.0 and then accidentally entered in the wrong username and password in the InDesign Folio Builder Panel when I went to log back in. (The user name and password were from an DPS Professional Edition account which we suspended with Adobe to prevent billing while testing.)
The inDesign panel just endlessly cycles now. Wont give me the option to re-enter correct information. I've closed/re-opened the panel, deleted / reinstalled the panel & tools, and I've deleted my inDesign preferences, but every time upon application launch the folio builder panel just cycles as seen below. I'm stuck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try signing out of the CS Live widget in the upper right corner of InDesign, close the Folio Builder panel, and try again.

  • Passwort-Limitation in InDesign Folio Builder

    Hi,
I have created a DPS user that has a 13 Digit password (was is allowed to create when setting up the account). I have already created a Viewer-App and submittet it to the iTunes store that uses that account. The Viewer-App is already in Review and will also show and sell first folios within the next hours.
The Problem is: if I want to login with that user via CS6 Folio Builder, I am limited to 6-12 chars by the desktop software.
    What I did:
    - changed the password
    - did all InDesign work
    - changed it back to make the app work
    => success!
But for further actions, how can i overcome this in a reasonable way?
    NO-Options:
    - change the App with new password and wait another 7 days to get a review
    Bad-Options i already figured out:
    - Create Folios online using the correct user, others via InDesign and then Crosslink Articles into the folios
    - wait the App to be Ready and selling, send a new app with new password, change password short before review and approval, as soon as approved works, meanwhile: no downloads
Well, let's say it this way: why the hell is InDesign Folio Builder limiting me? Is there a workaround on that level?
    cheers

To complete this thread for all maybe experiencing a similar problem:
I am not sure if we are talking about the same thing. If I create the Viewer-App using DPS Viewer Builder, already on the first screen I am asked to enter
    - a Titel-ID and a Password. The Help says: This password is used to login when folios for this app are published (I do not know the exact enhlish text as I have a german version)
For me, this seems very much as the Viewer App when DOWNLOADING folios signs into the Folio Distribution server @Adobe and gets the content.
    My evidence:
    - Viewer App showed In-App purchases, I could purchase
    - but when starting the download, it was hanging forever. After changing the passwort, I could download the purchase
If course, already downloaded content stays available.
My biggest problem is the itunes Review timespan. I dare not to change anything in the app because that might reschedule another 7 days waiting. Just for "trying out" experiments, that is a hard decision to take.
So, i thought i can solve the problem like this:
    - keep the (logical) Folio/App Account (with 13 digits) that owns the folio as it is and use another creative account (personal) to edit the folio.
    - after giving access to tha personal account, that person can see the folios in InDesign Folio Builder
    - BUT: even it is the SAME COMPUTER the Folio Builder says, that there is no InDesign Files for the folio. HELL!
I think is this was bootstrapped the wrong way, it is hard to navigate out again. Here's what we did:
    - created a technical account, lets say "magazine@....."
    - used that account to creare the Folio and Inesign files, did all editing with it
Because of the password problem, the idea is now, to use john@..... as the creative designer. How can John get access to the folios for editing (SAME COMPUTER)
Nevertheless: Adobe, please remove the 12 digits limitation in Folio Builder Login Screen if there is no hard need for it
    cheers

  • Packaging InDesign files

I have an InDesign file that has a bleed. When I packaged the file, the Report text file listed Bleed as being zero. ln Document Setup the bleed is 1/4 inch on all 4 sides. The only way I was able to get the correct bleed setting to show in the report file was to go to File > Print, take the check off of Use Document Bleed Settings, and type in the bleed.
Why would the correct bleed not be listed in the Report file if the document set up has a bleed setting?

I think what happens when Use Document Bleed Settings is selected at print time, InDesign looks at the Document Setup "on the fly." It doesn't actually enter any values in the bleed boxes, so there's nothing there that gets saved with the document. When you enter the values yourself, the settings become a fixed part of the print output dialog and are saved with the document.
If it helps: in all the years I've received packaged InDesign files from clients, I have never once paid attention to the "Print Settings" section of the report; there's nothing there that's relevant to the printer (that's me!).
Maybe a good feature request would be to eliminate the Print Settings in the report and list the Document Setup values instead.
One last thing: there may be a good reason for you to send the packaged native files to your printer, but the best workflow (if possible) would be to export a PDF for the printer and not bother with the packaged InDesign files at all.

  • InDesign Folio Builder Sign-In Failure.

I was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue when trying to log in to their DPS account from the Folio Builder tab within InDesign. I have downloaded and installed the latest versions of updates for the Folio Builder and Producer and am running CS5.5 on a Windows XP PC.
Please, if anyone has any ideas. I already have an account with the DPS system and can login just fine through my browser.
    Thank you.

    Hi Bob,
My ID is working on Adobe portal.
my problem date since that upload. I download and install Folio Producer Tools.dmg + Folio_Panel.dmg at least 10 times but my panels do not work. I completely reinstall Indesign but still nothing.
My Folios do not appear in the panel. I can not connect to CS Live.

  • InDesign Folio Error // Book

    Hi,
We are running into very strange problem very frequently, very recently.
We have individual InDesign documents paginated as Chapters/Articles, and when we create PS or Export PDF, everything looks fine. Whereas, when we create InDesign Book (to create Book or Issue), and the exported PDF has wrong Folio numbers and Running headers. Especially, the source document is absolutely correct even after book is created. It seems to me, very unreliable to have such a PDF. ie., duplicate of page numbers are appearing in the PDF.
At some point we re-save the files as IDML, and it solves for some times but not all the time. Please advise how to solve this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

You should be posting in the DPS forum, not here.

  • Indesign folio on a PC...

    Hi all,
First question I have has already been addressed but that was a year ago.
I'm using InDesign on a PC and try to make a folio app for the iPhone. I can preview it in the dektopviewer but not my connected device. The popup -when you hover over the preview button- reminds you that you have to connect a device. You also need Adobe viewer up and running on that device. The computer recognize the device but not InDesign??
Again, I'm using an iPhone -that is my target- and not an iPad or android. Can that be an issue?
Also, when I update my folio it doesn't seem to upload anything to the DSP folio producer or the Cloud server. There is nothing there. The license I have is Adobe CC. Obtained two days ago. Can there be a setup time?
Also, I have seen that the Mac version has the option: "Create App" in the fly out menu from the folio panel. I can't find this on the PC version.
PS. I it better to switch over to a Mac?
Thanks in advance for any answer.
    Dan

DSP folio producer: Signed out and signed back in. That did the trick. (weird, I did this before)
No, iOS devices on the PC! Strange. You can use iTunes  on a PC. Or is it a marketing thing. Forcing you to by a Mac.
    Thank  you.
Ps. Grap. Now I have to buy an Android phone. (and become one of the drone people. Ha, ha)
Update: strike the "grap' It does work with an iPhone. Ones you update your article to the "DSP folio producer", your folio automaticly shows up in the adobe viewer on your phone. This is a lot easier than connecting your phone with a cable to your computer. The downside is, you need a working internet connection.

  • Indesign Folio Desktop Preview not loading/working?

Hi, I'm trying to preview my Folio that I made in Indesign CC and the preview doesn't seem to be working.  I press the Preview on Desktop option, the loading bar window pops up with "Preparing Preview" :
and then it goes away and nothing happens.  I've already installed and updated everything that I can find related to this issue including the DPS Desktop Tools for InDesign CC from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5657&fileID=5661 and the Adobe AIR from http://get.adobe.com/air/
Does anyone know how to get the preview to work for Indesign CC?  Thank's for your help!

I was able to get the preview to work after unistalling Indesign and reinstalling.  Guess i'll never know what caused the problem in the first place but I just thought I'd post my solution incase anyone is having the same issue.

  • Is there a way to save over previous files without renaming when packaging InDesign files?

I am finding the file management a nightmare with having to package my work from Creative Cloud at home in order to work in Creative Suite at school. I usually have to do this back and forth multiple times for the same project creating multiple files and folders - it is too confusing!
I would like less clutter by having the option to save over my packages without having to rename resulting in yet another packaged folder for the same project to my storage devices. Is there a way to do this? I searched and am not finding answers to this particular issue.
Normally I would not package before the project is complete but I need the IDML files in order to continue my work when at school. Any answers or tips around how to manage this would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

Thank you Bob! I understood all of that. My frustration was that I have to give it a new name every single time I package thus creating yet another version of the same file on my system. I don't like cluttering my system with multiple versions of the same project. I work with duplicating layers inside the same document so I can always revert back to something done earlier without having to dig around and open an old file. I think this lack of saving over a file option is a flaw in the way the software is designed. One should always have the option to re-save over an old file with the same name. Just my opinion!

  • DBMS_LOB Package for CLOB Issues

I was wondering if any of you have worked with DBMS_LOB
packages. I wrote a procedure that will be invoked from a 'C'
program. I was first compiling the procedure as follows:
procedure <procedurename> (c_text out char, length in number)
    declare c_lob CLOB;
    begin
    SELECT lob_locator_column into c_lob from <table>
    WHERE
    <table>.id = '1';
    dbms_lob.read(c_lob,length,1,c_text)
    end;
When I compile this program I am getting an error "length cannot
be used as a target". Have any of you seen this problem?
Right now I am getting around by declaring another variable and
assigning the input length to the variable and passing it into
    DBMS_LOB.
Another issue I have is that the DBMS package is returning the
length of the clob to be an "INTEGER". What happens if the clob
    length is greater than 32767?
    null

I guess you are using a reserved word..

  • Problem in opening the package indesign

Hi guys, need help one of my client having problems in opening the indd package I have sent to them via ftp, the files are compressed in a zip file. Then I try to download the zip package, it opens and works well. I'm using CS3 windows base by the way.

    Hi Bob,
Just to fill you in, the client and I have the same version of Indesign CS3 only I’m working on a PC platform and the client on Mac. The indesign files we have been working is been updated monthly, on the previous months of exchanging files we did not encounter this problem only now. I already check the file that is been upload and open it on my Mac the indesign file work fine at my end, but on the clients it does not open and the indesign application closes. We did come up with a temporary solution which exporting it in INX. On the clients end this works. But we want this out in our process to cut time and I want to know how this happen and how to avoid.
    Sorry for the late reply.

  • InDesign CS6 Issues!

Ever since we got CS6 here at work, we've had nothing but issues. This is not an upgrade, it is a clean install on a brand new iMac 10.8.5.
Today starts a new set of issues. Indesign crashes about 2 or 3 times just for the fun of it, then this afternoon when I was trying to export a PDF, I noticed that there was text missing on my screen. The text boxes were there but no text was visible. I tried to click inside the text box and select it - nothing! I thought that maybe it's just a view thing so I exported the PDF anyway and the text was missing in it also - Gone! I went back into the ID document, selected the text box, opened it up, closed it up - nothing. Then all of the sudded when I zoomed in or out just one click (happened both directions), like magic the text appeared. Now, I can see the text, but I can't select or edit the text. One of my text boxes I had to just redo. This is a major pain seeing how I have just spent the last 9 hours working on a 36 x 11 gatefold product brochure and now I can't edit but just some of the text. I have checked and no layers are locked and there is nothing on any master pages...... I don't want to have to go back and retype all this data... It's not all of the text, just random text boxes. One of the boxes, the text is just gone.... There is nothing there.
I have deleted the Version 8.0 folders from my cahses folder and from my prefrences folder but to no avail.
Has anyone else been experiencing these kinds of issues???

The only font manager I have is Font Book and I run updates about every 2 or 3 days so all my software is up to date. Also, it isn't like it's been an on going issue, this just started on this one job. I never had these kinds of problems until now. I have a G5 sitting here that has CS4 on it and it never gave a minutes problems.
Any other ideas???? What is scary is to think that this may be have been a 1.5 million dollar job and to think that ID6 is having these kinds of issues.....

  • Inserting a Fill-in Form inside InDesign Folio

    Hello:
Did a search, so I trust this has not been asked/answered previously.
I am creating an InDesign document that I would like to embed a fill-in form that can be submitted back to me.
If anyone has seen the Clemson World folio that is free on iTunes, you will see a form embedded in one of the pages that asks for name, address, etc, etc.  There is also a submit button, that then sends the form to a predesignated email.
I would like to add this type of form directly into my InDesign document and being a complete beginner, I have failed to understand how thus far.  I developed a fill-in form in Acrobat X pro and then placed the form on my page, but there was no fill-in capability.  Only a view of the form.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Indesign CS4 - Issues with .PDF and .ps

I have just done a clean install of my system (MacBook pro) with Snow Leopard and have now installed Adobe Creative Suite 4. I am trying to output a PDF and a .ps file for a document I have created that contains spreads.
    InDesign print PDF
There are three ways to print a PDF, as attached Print PDF 1,2,3:
Image Print PDF_1: The 'Save as PDF' produces a pdf that can't be opened and gives an error message that it's not a supported file type.
Image Print PDF_2: The 'File > Export' option works and the spreads appear to be fine
Image Print PDF_3: When I try and print to a PDF using the 'Printer: Adobe PDF 8.0'  printer the print dialog box allows me to choose the option however when the job spools it just disappears - it doesnt ask me where to save the PDF and the PDF never comes to fruition. I have read on forums this is a known issue with Snow Leopard.
What is the best way to create a PDF in CS4?
    InDesign print .PS file
When I go to print a postscript file I get no page preview or access to setup options to change paper size etc. Even if I select  'spreads', after I have run it through distiller it seems to have ignored the spreads, or else has not adjusted the page setup appropriately, and just an A4 page comes out.
    (See image Print Postscript_1, 1A).
Is there another way to create a .ps file?
    Any help would be appreciated!

With Snow Leopard, the Printing of PDFs has changed. Try using the highlighted option
