Packaging problem with Arial small capital

Hi there,
I'm busy with my first real grafic assignment and I'm having trouble with my InDesign cs5 document. The same document in CS3 (I skipped cs4) had no problem.
The steps I make:
- preflight check is ok
- I open the package window, it's al ok
- press the package button
- then 'next' on the press instructions
- I choose a folder and press ok
- A warning appears. something about restrictions to copy or use a font software for a service provider and trouble with the copyright. (too bad I have no restricted font, I use only Arial regular and in small capital)
- I press ok to ignore it
- The package is made and it al looks good until I open the indesign document I just packed. The small capital text has changed in regular. The small capital button does not work anymore in this document, so I can't change it back to small capital again.
When testing with an other document and more fonts the same problem occurs.
The first version of my assignment (made in cs3) had no problem with the package tool.
The only forum in the direction of this problem is here but I haven't got any idea what to do.
Could anyone help me? Did I do something wrong or is it a cs5 bug?
Thanks in advance.
Marianne

Yes, it's a bug. It was fixed in one of the updates. Current version of CS5 is 7.0.4 and you should install the patch if you haven't done it already.

    I am running Snow Leopard. Transferring the same texts to TextEdit has no problems, so this is a Pages problem, I think.  Corruption of Times New Roman and Arial fonts, I suspect, but where? and what do I do about it? I just need to be pointed to a source of advice, I think.

  • Problem with too small page size using Java 2D Printing API.

    Hello,
    I have problem with resolution of printer using Java 2D Printing API. Despite my printer has 600 x 600 DPI, inside java.awt.print.Printable.print(Graphics, PageFormat, int) I receive page format with 600 x 840 page size.
    I have tried to set resolution using javax.print.attribute.PrintRequestAttributeSetand javax.print.attribute.standard.PrinterResolution, but with no result.
    Can anybody solve this problem?
    Regards,
    Karl.

    600 x 840 is a Point value; Point is defined as 1/72nd of an inch. Printers do have much higher DPI than this, but I believe that this DPI has to do with richness of the printed image, not an actual ability to color with that level of resolution. You might want to try calling zoom on your Graphics2D object. Otherwise, I don't know what else you can try.

  • Problem with Arial/ default font

    I don't know if Mac has a default font option, but I hope they do! Last week I was working as usual when I noticed some websites were not displaying correctly. After some investigation, I realized it was my Arial font. It happens in Word and Acrobat also. What it looks like is that my default Arial font was replaced with another font. When I go to Font Book or the Fonts folder and look at my Arial font, though, it is fine. I did install some fonts recently, as I have done in the past, and this is the first time I have seen such a problem. I am content with just changing my default font to something else, if I could figure out how! Thanks.

    If you did an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard it is not uncommon to have some minor font problems and possibly one or more major problems.
    Click on Go>Applications>Font Book.
    In Font Book choose All Fonts in the 1st column, then click into the second column.
    Check for a black dot to the right of any of the fonts in the list in the second column.
    If there are any dots the click on Edit>Select All.
    Next Edit>Resolve Duplicates.
    Next File>Validate Fonts.
    Wait until it checks all the fonts and it will tell you how many have major problems and how many have minor problems.
    If you have a fairly significant number of problems you should probably reinstall the System Fonts.
    You can do that with an archive and install but there is an easier way.
    In Safari search for Pacifist.
    Download it.
    Insert your Leopard install disk while it is downloading.
    Run Pacifist and choose to have it Open Apple Install Disks.
    It will reveal the contents of the install disk.
    The fonts are located by going to Contents of EssentialSystemSoftware>Contents of BaseSystem.pkg>System>Library>Fonts.
    Click on the Fonts folder to choose it and then click on Install in the upper left corner
    This will reinstall the System Fonts and overwrite its folder.
    It will ask you if you want to overwrite the fonts, choose yes and tell it not to ask you again.
    After the reinstall, restart your computer.
    The go to Applications and run Font Book again.
    Select the second column by clicking into it and then choosing Select All from the Edit menu.
    Choose Resolve Duplicates from the Edit menu.
    Select Validate fonts from the File menu and put a checkmark to the left of any problem fonts.
    Choose Remove Checked.

  • Problem with too small fonts

    Hi, after some update I've noticed my fonts are too slow on some websites, especially it applies for Google Mail:
    http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/1262/picture1ds9.png
    Google Reader is barely readable too, as well as some other pages. I've tried using Camino - the display is fine (not sure about Shiira, but I don't think it's WebKit rendering problem).
    Is anyone experiencing this too?
    Of course it's possible to increase the font size manually with Command - +, but this way some fonts are too big, while the other ones - ok. This annoyance led me to setting Camino as a default browser.

    To all of you if you happen to have same problem: reinstalling Safari helps .
    P.S. Although it was a huge shock when Safari 3 Public Beta refused to install. Try inserting Mac OS X first instalation disk given with your computer and install Safari 2 first. Then Safari 3 Beta follows .

  • Dbms_java / dbms_java_test package problem with PLXML (RH6.1)

    Hi all,
    While trying to install the PL/XML java for use with 8.1.5 I've noticed that it trys to call dbms_java.shortname() to verify classes but it returns "INVALID COLUMN NAME". I worked out that this is because the package dbms_java does NOT exist (in my installation anyhow). It seems to be called dbms_java_test ? This smacks of "We didn't quite get that far yet porting this to linux...". Please, someone out there tell me this is not so!

    Hello again,
    I read the documentation of 9i and found some hints about different TCP/IP socket handling of 9i and a standard JVM.
    There are some parts that give hints but I couldn't find a sample code to show how to handle the differences.
    Could anyone tell me how to handle the differences or give some links to sample code?

  • Mr Magoo has problems with the small font print in the "Everything Mac" man

    Well thanks to a one year no payments offer by my local Future Shop i purchased the iMac 3.0.6GHz.
    However the "Everything Mac" manual and other enclosed printed documents are printed in extremely small fonts.
    Is there a download site for a pdf version which may allow me to print or view the instructions in larger print.
    Lordy, SteveJobs must have extremely good vision.

    If you find a PDF copy such as this http://manuals.makeuseof.com.s3.amazonaws.com/the-mac-manual.pdf - open that in Safari and zoom to your heart's delight.
    As well, go to System Preferences/Universal Access and see if any options there help out.
    And finally, if you also have the new Magic Mouse, simply hold down on the Control Key on your keyboard and 'scroll' with one finger fore/aft on the mouse top to zoom with ease.
    Good luck and any case and enjoy your new Mac.
    Just a note....be sure that manual is current with the OS version on your new computer - things have changed in many ways and if you're learning, you should learn in sync, etc.

  • Problem with a small code

    Hello , Can anyone plz tell me how do i get this output from this sample code ? im new to java...
    public class Fact2
    int factorial (int n) {
    int res;
    System.out.println(n);
    if (n == 1) return 1;
    res = factorial (n - 1) * n ;
    System.out.println("res " + res);
    return res;
    public static void main (String [] args) {
    Fact2 f= new Fact2();
    System.out.println("The factorial of this number is " + f.factorial(5));
    The output is :
    C:\Documents and Settings\AM>java Fact2
    5
    4
    3
    2
    1
    res 2
    res 6
    res 24
    res 120
    The factorial of this number is 120
    Here , from 5 to 1 is understood and also the last phrase of course , but from where did the variable "res" have these values 2,6,24 ....

    2: int factorial (int n) {
    3: int res;
    4: System.out.println(n);
    5: if (n == 1) return 1;
    6: res = factorial (n - 1) * n ;
    7: System.out.println("res " + res);
    8: return res;
    9: }
    When you call factorial(5) this will happen:
    It prints 5 (line 4)
    It calls factorial(4) (line 6) - (and waits for it result!!!!!)
    factorial(4) shall print 4, and calls factorial(3)
    prints 3, calls factorial(2)
    prints 2, calls factorial(1)
    prints 1, returns 1returns from factorial(1), multiplies it by 2 (line 6), result = 2
    prints the result to the screen (line 7)
    returns the result (line 8) (thus 2)multiplies the result of factorial(2) with 3 (line 6), result = 6
    prints this result, and returns itmultiplies the result of factorial(3) with 4, result = 24
    prints this result, and returns itmultiplies the result of factorial(4) with 5, result = 120
    prints this result and returns itHope this get things clear to you

    Hi everyone,
    i am pretty new to tomcat and jsp and I have to setup
    a webapp using tomcat. Actually I setup the
    tomcat-server and moved all files in the
    webapps/ROOT/myapp In this case, the webapps/ROOT/ is you application directory (servlet context). The myapp is a sub-context, and does not get a WEB-INF directory.
    So, either your classes should be in:
    webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/...
    or (better) you should make a new Servlet Context in parallel to the ROOT context (under webapps)
    webapps/myapp/
    and put the classes under

    Don't forget to make a webapps/myapps/WEB-INF/web.xml.

  • Problem with a C/C++ port into Java

    Hello,
    I have a problem with a small little C/C++ function which I have to port to Java.
    unsigned char CRC8;
    void CRC8_Init(void)
       CRC8 = 0xC7;
    unsigned char Create_CRC8(unsigned char InByte)
       unsigned char CRC8_Count;
       CRC8 ^= InByte;
       for(CRC8_Count=0;CRC8_Count<8;CRC8_Count++)
          if(CRC8&0x80)
             CRC8=(CRC8<<1)^0x1D;
          else
             CRC8<<=1;
       return CRC8;
    //************************************************************The problem is that there is no unsigned char in Java. If I use byte I have values from -127 to 127 but I need values from 0 - 255.
    Here is my code:
    byte crc8;
    public CRC8()
        this.crc8 = (byte)0xC7;
    public int CreateCRC8(byte inByte)
       this.crc8 ^= inByte;
       for(int crc8Count = 0; crc8Count<8; crc8Count++)
           if( (this.crc8 & 0x80) != 0){
              this.crc8 = (byte)((this.crc8 << 1) ^ 0x1D);
            else{
                this.crc8<<=1;
        return this.crc8;
    }When I call the function:
       CRC8 c = new CRC8();
       c.CreateCRC8((byte)55);
       c.CreateCRC8((byte)47)
       byte result = c.CreateCRC8((byte)0); //estimated result should be 200 (result of the C/C++ function)
    Is someone out there who can give me a piece of code that works on the same way like the C/C++ function.
    Thanks in advance!*

    just make sure to use "byte" where you would use unsigned char; most bitwise operations work the same way. and if you need to convert it to an int to display it or something, do what was shown above
    this java code
    public class CRC8
    byte crc8;
    public CRC8()
        this.crc8 = (byte)0xC7;
    public byte CreateCRC8(byte inByte)
       this.crc8 ^= inByte;
       for(int crc8Count = 0; crc8Count<8; crc8Count++)
           if( (this.crc8 & 0x80) != 0){
              this.crc8 = (byte)((this.crc8 << 1) ^ 0x1D);
            else{
                this.crc8<<=1;
        return this.crc8;
    public static void main(String[]args)
       CRC8 c = new CRC8();
       c.CreateCRC8((byte)55);
       c.CreateCRC8((byte)47);
       byte result = c.CreateCRC8((byte)0);
       System.out.println(result & 0xff); // convert to int as shown above
    }produces the same result as this c++ code:
    #include <iostream>
    using namespace std;
    unsigned char CRC8;
    void CRC8_Init(void)
       CRC8 = 0xC7;
    unsigned char Create_CRC8(unsigned char InByte)
       unsigned char CRC8_Count;
       CRC8 ^= InByte;
       for(CRC8_Count=0;CRC8_Count<8;CRC8_Count++)
          if(CRC8&0x80)
             CRC8=(CRC8<<1)^0x1D;
          else
             CRC8<<=1;
       return CRC8;
    int main()
      CRC8_Init();
      Create_CRC8(55);
      Create_CRC8(47);
       unsigned char result = Create_CRC8(0);
       cout << (int)result << endl;
    }

  • R7970 problem with temperature sensor?

    So last month I RMA'd my R7970 and I just received it in the mail. Originally my problem was I had artifacting lines, and occasionally freezes. In the time between that I had ordered a 5450 just as a temporary card.
    When I got my 7970 back I removed the 5450 and placed the 7970 in its place. However after booting up my computer the fans started going on max speed every few seconds while online. I looked at the temperature according to afterburner and it says its at 70c where my previous card was probably around 50 during normal use. I tried playing skyrim but it's not the funnest thing to play when you have the sound of a fan blowing at 50 mph. And while playing this the temperature went up to ~95c
    The reason I'm thinking theres a problem with the censor is that I felt the exhaust from the pci slot and though it was warm, it was not 95 degrees of hot. I turned off the computer and took out the graphics card and placed it back in thinking that was the problem but its still just as loud. I figured I'd post here first and see if maybe I did something wrong before contacting MSI directly.
    My specs are:
    CPU: AMD 8350
    mobo: gigabyte ga 990 fxa ud3
    gpu: R7970-2PMD3GD5
    psu: corsair cx 750
    ram: gskill 16gb ddr3 1600(?)mhz

    Hi I've replaced  the paste on two msi 7870 as they do an awfull job of applying by putting about six times to much on. I used a Noctua NT H1 non conductive paste just a very tiny pea size and the temps have dropped by 10%c on both cards. They are now in crossfire mode and pretty quiet although obviously they run hotter in crossfire mode but max out at 65%c. I had to RMA one of these cards just two weeks ago as the temp diode set the fan at full speed once it hit about 60%c which was intolerable as I expect yours is. They sent me a replacement card and didn't query that I had broken the warranty seal when I replaced the thermal paste. I'm surprised at how hot your 7970 gets although I've never used one is that normal for this card, is it in a decent sized case, is something stopping one of the fans from moving eg a power wire etc. sounds silly but I had this problem with a small form shuttle a motherboard wire had to be reouted on a twin fan card for that reason. Hope you get it sorted

  • Getting problem with the new java.util.concurrent package

    i m using the new concurrency package of jdk 1.5 in my code. see the line:
    Executor threadPool = Executors.newCachedThreadPool();
    about this, api doc says Creates a thread pool that creates new threads as needed, but will reuse previously constructed threads when they are available
    but i dont find this method to create new threads whenever required. please tell me about this.
    in my code, in some rare cases many threads r created, and very difficult to detect the number of active threads.
    as the previous one failed i tried with another one newFixedThreadPool(int). but here i got another problem. it works successfully but i dont understand what should be the size of the pool. i tried with 1000, it works well, but in a very rare case, it failed also. then i tried with 10000. but i m still confused, i dont know whether it would work always or not. with traditional threads my code never fails.
    please tell me, what should be the size of the pool and also let me know what is the problem with the first one (newCachedThreadPool)

    The thread pool should not be more than 100 threads. Ideally you should only have a small number of threads per CPU. If your threads are not long running it is possible that you could add 10,000 runnables but on start a small number of threads. Note, adding a thread take a non trivial amount of time so while the thread is added, all the others could finish. This could mean the number of threads could be 140 or smaller.
    Have you looked at the code to see what it does?

  • SYSDBA - problem with viewing other users package body texts on sys account

    Hi,
    SQL Dev 1.0.0.15.27 has problem with correct display of other users package body texts on sys account. All bodies have "create or replace" text instead of all pck. bodies text.
    I guest it's problem with SYSDBA role. On system account text is displayed correctly. Quest SQL Navigator 5.x has no problem with this. Any ideas ?
    Regards,
    MM

    Hi Everyone,
    Just so I can close the case on this issue, although I was successful in
    using CSS to resolve the issue, actually, the issue was not really
    resolved. There was (for me) still the problem of rollover images not
    working in IE, and if I were ever to get another good night's sleep, I
    would need to resolve it -- so I did. Recall me saying earlier about the
    sizes being brought in to the javascript code by Dreamweaver? The original
    issue with having the size of the small image in the code caused the code
    to see the larger image as small also! However, when I deleted those size
    attributes' numbers, I failed to delete the words "width" and "height"
    along with the double quotes following each. So, while the other browsers
    ignored these "blank" attributes within these double quotes, IE apparently
    didn't, reading these "blank" values as some very small value, thus
    displaying the image in the absolutely smallest size possible! Wow! When I
    removed these two blank attributes, my problem went away! Live and learn!
    So, to all who were desperately trying to assist me, please accept my
    deepest and most sincere apologies. All the while I was blaming IE, I was
    the guilty one!!! Shame on me, and thanks for the wonderful responses I
    received from the Dreamweaver forum team. I will go and stand in the corner
    for 8 hours with my dunce cap on...

  • Problem with Small Caps

    I have a problem with small caps when using Times New Roman and Helvetica, but not when using Adobe Garamond Pro, and would like to find out why.
    I generate the small caps within InDesign by the "TT" box in the Control Window. Adobe Garamond comes up with beautiful small caps that blend in with the surrounding text. When I do the same with Helvetica, the small caps, especially if they have normal caps amongst them, are quite inelegant looking because of different letter widths.
    So I did some experiments with half a dozen other serif and sans-serif fonts and none of them were as elegant as Adobe Garamond Pro. For a sample of what I mean, download:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?z5fm0zndmzm
    which compares three fonts: Adobe Garmond, Heletica, and Times New Roman.
    Unfortunately, I did not pick up this problem until I received my first proof from the printers, and now I will have to change all the Helvetica small caps to normal caps, as I can see no other way of overcoming this inelegancy.
    I checked in New Scientist magazine (it uses a serif and sans-serif font throughout, and what I thought I remembered as small caps to begin their stories) to see what they do, but they actually use caps instead of small-caps at the beginning of stories.
    Three questions:
    Q1: Is the way I generate small caps the correct way?
    Q2: Is there something wrong with my Helvetica and Times New Roman fonts?
    Q3: Could it be that only Adobe Garamond has an internal, properly designed small caps?
    I have checked the attributes of the fonts: Garamond is Open Type Postscript, Helvetica is PostScript Type 1 , and Times New Roman is TrueType.
    Any comments most appreciated.

    Thanks for the hints. I tried Scott's method and it works with a bit of extra adjustment. The settings I obtained for 12 point Helvetica were:
    Horizontal and vertical scaling: 70.5%;
    Stroke: 0.1 pt
    Tracking: +25 em
    Baseline shift: +0.1 pt
    The steps to obtain small-caps 12 pt Helvetica are:
    Step 1: Type text as normal.
    Step 2: Select only the lower-case text you want to convert to small caps. i.e if what is to become small caps already has a capital (such as a place name) do not apply the settings to the capitals, unless that's the effect you want.
    Step 3: Apply the above settings manually or via or Character Style.
    Problem 1: How do I rid my Character Style of the font size so that only the scaling factors remain? As it is, if I want to apply small-caps to a different font size than the one I have set up, I have to manually change the font size after applying the style.
    Problem 2: The scaling factors do not appear to work for changes in font size. When I used 24 pt and applied the above settings, the small-caps were too thin. The method only really works for a particular size, which in reality is all you would normally require.
