Packing Number ranges

Hi Frnds,
I have gone to VNKP ( Number ranes for Shipping units ) and created a new Number range (02).
Now in VHAR (Change view packing material types ) , i have assinged the number range, but while i am doing trying to do packing i am getting an error saying that
Please specify an internal number range
Message no. NR752
Is there any mistake which i have done while assigning the number range series ??
Regards
Rakesh

Hi,
Check in VNKP  if you have checked the External number range. It should be unchecked. For more info try this link

  • Packing instructions - problem with external number range

    Hi Gurus:
I have a problem with configuring packing instructions. I have created a number range entry with external numbering (tx. OPIN), but when I want to create a new packing instruction in POP1, I get an error message: Manually-entered packing instruction ID cannot be checked (Message no. VHU01116). Can you please tell me how to avoid this error message?
The system works fine if the number range is set to internal. As a matter of fact, initially I did create a setting with internal numbering and conducted a couple of tests, but I had to change the "external" flag in the number range to meet business requirements. Is it possible that somehow the system does not recognize that I have changed the flag and I need to run some generation program or something similar?
    I appreciate your valuable input
    Tamas

    For further records:
we have found the problem after debugging the function. In order for the system to accept the external number range, a second number range object with ID 02 must be maintained in OPIN. Then you can use this number range as external and keep the first as internal.

  • Creation of HU in auto mode with external number range

    Dear Experts,
I'm stucking in a scenario related to HUM
There are two handling units -
    1. Bag
    2. Pallet
through T code HU02 , it's possible to create an HU and assign it internal generated number.
But as per our requirement , we want to assign the external number to the HU (which is barcode number of bag or pallet)
Can you pls let me know the process of assigning External number range to HU.
Also we want to create the HU automatically after GR in production (MIGO,101) , instead of manually via HU02.
Pls explin the process of creation of HU automatically also...
    Thanks in advance..

Check with FM BAPI_HU_PACK.For packing an item into HU.
For external number range you need configure external number range
    SPRO>Logistics - General>Handling Unit Management>Basics>Technical Basics-->Define Number Ranges for Handling Units.
After GR  for production you need to confighre internal number range for perticular packing material type then system will automatically pack and place in HU location.
    Please find some FM info

  • Number range in Solution Manager 3.2

    Hi ,
we are using solution Manager 3.2 with oracle 9i and Bi 7.0 (development)
While we  raise Solution Manager Ticket from BW Development system,it is
not mainatainig the proper sequence number(number range).Rest all other systems are maintaining it properly.Recently we have upgraded the Support Pack for that BW Development system.its seems like  issue is happening after the SP upgrade.
Please guide us to resolve this issue
    thanks in advance

    Hello George,
The best possible thing for you now ( assuming that everything was working absolutely fine before the upgrade and that you now continue to have no issues with raising tickets in other satellite systems ) would be to find out the side effects of the SP applied..... or may be look for notes resembling your problem.....
SAP Marketplace is one the one you must look upto.....In the meanwhile just raise an OSS for the same..

  • Handling Unit Number Range

    Hi All,
How to give external number range to a handling uni.
    The scenario is:
In HU02 screen I am giving packaging material number, material number and quantity.
Than when I press enter system automatically taking one number in the handling unit field.
But my client wants to give here an external number range not the internal number range.
How to give external number range for the handling unit?
    Regards
    Ashis

    hai,
I am also not having access to SAP currently i am giving you the following information, check this out
Assigning New Numbers for Handling Units
    Use
If, for example, you are going to deliver handling units worldwide, unique number assignment for identification of the handling units is necessary, and it is also a good idea to assign SSCC18 numbers ( see also  EAN128).
    Prerequisites
In the Customizing settings for the packaging material type, you must maintain the Handling unit type field.
In Customizing, choose Logistics General ® Handling Unit Management ® External Identification ® Define Number Assignment for Each Packaging Material Type.
Maintain the HU type for EAN128 field for the relevant packaging material type.
    Procedure
In the packing dialog, select the Pack material tab.
Select the handling unit for which you want to assign an SSCC18.
Choose Extras ® SSCC number assignment.
    Result
A new SSCC18 number is generated and automatically assigned to the handling unit.
    regards

  • HU/SU seperate number ranges?

Is it a good practice to have seperate number ranges between Storage Units and Handling Units?
As we consider HU however as a heavy application-module, whereby sometimes simple internal SU in a WM can be sufficient.. Like wise we sometimes make use of external Logistic Service Providers which only require a pallet number for shipments, whereby they want to make use of own WM-systems (not requiring us to set up/maintain WM for them).
Thus we have configured in our system:
    - locations managed via HU+SU  (Storagelocations requires HU, and linked to WM)
    - locations managed via SU only (no HU)
    - locations where we pack goods in IM via HU (no WM).
Of course when in a warehouse the HU+SU are combined =the same number, of course there are no issues and everything runs fine.
As the number range of HU runs much faster (as it is global)  than SU (which is WM-specific), I have my concern to block a certain HU-number range in order to allow those warehouses which donot use HU (only SU) to work 'error-free'.
For those warehouses or IM-locations where we don't combine SU/HU; we do experience that SAP it self esthablishes a link to a HU and a SU number although the material/plant/storage location offers no match. The match is purely based on the number. This is causing issues when differences are to be booked as we are hindered with this undesired SU/HU link.
Is seperating the number range the only answer?
Looking forward to your advice/best practice.

    Hi,
May I know if the question still exists or not? If so, please reply it. Thanks a lot.

  • Number range Interval HU_VEKP

    Hi,
I am a technical consultant and came across number range intervals for the first time. Need some help for you.
I am trying to define packaging material types. One of the statements says that I to ensure that <b>the number assignment of your packing material types is set to the Number range interval</b> (NRI) ‘HU_VEKP’.
I have defined 4 packaging material types for whom the number assignment starts from 0000 to 0003. I have the NRI 'HU_VEKP' in the SNRO transaction. How do I proceed further?
    Thanks & Regads,
    Rahul

    Use Tcode SNRO.
    Provide your object type HU_VEKP
Then click on change button, it will take you to No. Range Object: Change screen.
Then click on Number range in menu bar to maintain the number range.
    Hope it can assist you.

  • Configuration of external handling unit number range

    Hello everyone,
I am working on a project that includes receiving of handling units from outside of our SAP system in EAN128 format, and am running into some challenges in setting up an appropriate external handling unit number range.  The process will involve creation of an inbound delivery from an advance ship notice, with the delivery to then be packed based upon handling unit information in the ASN.  I have set up an external number range interval in the number range object that is being used for generation of internal handling unit numbers, with the external interval being outside the range of the existing internal intervals.  When the ASN is posted, the inbound delivery is created but cannot be packed (status 52), and I get a message stating "The check digit of SSCC 10000001000001648 is incorrect. 5 is correct" (just using this number as an example).  In this case, the HU number actually had a leading zero, and changing the sample HU to start with a 5 results in the same message but stating that 0 is correct, which is kind of maddening.  The bottom line is that I have not configured an external number range before for handling units and am clearly missing something here.  Has somebody set this up successfully and can share your experience, or can point me to some good documentation?  I am searching OSS, the Business Process Expert Community, and the overall web in general and am not finding any relevant information.

    Per your info,
in std, You cant maintain HU number ranges with respect to year.
Still if you want to maintain, You have to use Userexit for Number ranges.
Generally, all sales documents number ranges are not year specific . ONly FI documents are year specific.
Why you want to have Year specific number ranges for HU's? - It is nothing to do with Year.
Convince your client, This year dependant HU number ranges doesnt carry any value addition. Still client insists, only way to achieve this is "USEREXIT_NUMBER_RANGE"
    hope it helps

  • Handling Unit number range HU_VEKP

    Hi Folks,
I have a requirement related to Handling Unit number ranges. I need to merge two systems ABC & 123, during the migration process I found number range conflict for Handling Unit process. In packaging material type (0002) functionality the number range assignment field is maintained with the option "An external number can be enbtered (No HU functionality)" and the field intervals are empty for ABC system.  The other 123 system has configuration like "B number range interval "HU_VEKP" and field intervals are maintained Internal -01, External -01.
If we merge this both systems then there could be a problem in both the instances. So I need give them a solution to avoid the overlap.
One strange thing is for 123 system  is generating number ranges from HU_VEKP that is fine and the other system ABC doesn't have number range assignment setting like HU_VEKP instead of that as I mentioned above "An external number can be enbtered (No HU functionality)" but still system generating number ranges for each transactional process.
I would request you to suggest me what are the various ways to generate a HU number during the packing section.
    Appreciate earlier response.
    Thanks & Regards.

    Use Tcode SNRO.
    Provide your object type HU_VEKP
Then click on change button, it will take you to No. Range Object: Change screen.
Then click on Number range in menu bar to maintain the number range.

  • Floating point Number & Packed Number

Hai can anyone tell me what is the difference in using floating point & packed Number .
when it will b used ?

    <b>Packed numbers</b> - type P
Type P data allows digits after the decimal point. The number of decimal places is generic, and is determined in the program. The value range of type P data depends on its size and the number of digits after the decimal point. The valid size can be any value from 1 to 16 bytes. Two decimal digits are packed into one byte, while the last byte contains one digit and the sign. Up to 14 digits are allowed after the decimal point. The initial value is zero. When working with type P data, it is a good idea to set the program attribute Fixed point arithmetic.Otherwise, type P numbers are treated as integers.
You can use type P data for such values as distances, weights, amounts of money, and so on.
    <b>Floating point numbers</b> - type F
The value range of type F numbers is 1x10*-307 to 1x10*308 for positive and negative numbers, including 0 (zero). The accuracy range is approximately 15 decimals, depending on the floating point arithmetic of the hardware platform. Since type F data is internally converted to a binary system, rounding errors can occur. Although the ABAP processor tries to minimize these effects, you should not use type F data if high accuracy is required. Instead, use type P data.
You use type F fields when you need to cope with very large value ranges and rounding errors are not critical.
Using I and F fields for calculations is quicker than using P fields. Arithmetic operations using I and F fields are very similar to the actual machine code operations, while P fields require more support from the software. Nevertheless, you have to use type P data to meet accuracy or value range requirements.

  • Handling Unit Number range per delivery.

    Dear All,
Please guide me how we can configure Handling Unit number ranges so that for each delivery document, Handling numbers should be started from 01.
    Thanx in advance.
    Anup

    Dear Reazuddin,
    Thanks for your early response.
As per standard SAP functionality,  we assign a number range to handling units and system automatically assigns serial numbers to each handling unit.
But My requirement is suppose I am packing materials in a delivery document, then the handling numbers of these packs should start from 1,2,3 so on. And for next delivery also system should give me (or allow to enter) once again starting from 1 and not 04.
I hope my requirement is clear.
Please advise any solution on this.
    Any further updates please.....?
    Thanx,

  • HU-SU NUMBER RANGE

Friday Afternoon and I have another question......
I have a warehouse created in an HU Managed SLOC
I have also specified that this Warehouse is SU Managed.
Now I want HU and SU to be same numbers.
    I have set up
HANDLING UNIT MANAGEMENT --> BASICS --> TECHNICAL BASICS --> DEFINE NUMBER RANGES FOR HANDLING UNIT and I have set Interval 01 with some values.
    I have also gone to
LOGISTICS EXECUTION --> WAQREHOUSE MANAGEMENT --> MASTER DATA --> DEFINE NUMBER RANGES
There is my question : Do I need to enter a Number Range Interval for STORAGE UNIT, or is it unnecessary as HU NUMBERS will be used?
Also I understand I have to set up CONVERSION FOR STORAGE UNIT NUMBER in that same screen,
So again my question is in order to have same HU and SU number for an HU managed SLOC, do I need to enter a NumberRange Interval for the SU?
This is an easy one for someone who has done it before.....
    Thanks for your help,
    Alain

    Thanks for your answer.
But I guess when I do not understand it takes a lot of details to explain it to me.....
"When you use HU in your warehouses, it is only the HU number range that is needed to be defined. This number range is considered by the system for the SU's when they are in Warehouse. The HU-SU assignment gets linked when you had assigned the packaging material type to the storage unit type in SPRO for HU at WM node."
OK for that point. I think I understand the link.
But Am I right in saying that If I have also under my warehouse a Storage Location that is not HU Managed, I would need to enter an SU NUMBER RANGE in that warehouse if I want That NON HU MANAGED STORAGE LOCATION to be SU MANAGED?
    Also, in the config under
HANDLING UNIT --> BASICS --> TECHNICAL BASICS --> DEFINE NUMBER RANGE FOR HANDLING UNITS
Am I right in assuming that this number range is internal only and the user has no interaction with these numbers?
    NOW MY QUESTION :
If I am not going to use SSCC.
I still need to enter an EXTERNAL NUMBER RANGE FOR HUs in order to generate the numbers that will be created BY packing IN MY inbound deliveries.
Do I enter that NUMBER RANGE  in the following point of  config under
HANDLING UNITS --> EXTERNAL IDENTIFICATION --> NUMBER RANGE MAINTENANCE FOR HU IDENTIFICATION
If the answer is yes, do I have to select the "EXT" button? I am already in a point of config that creates EXTERNAL IDENTIFICATION.
Are these the numbers that the users will see when Packing and UNPAcking?
Are these the numbers that the users wil use to INQUIRE on the HUs?
    ETC.
IS there another place in the config where I have to enter a NUMBER RANGE FOR THE HUs?
As you can see, I am pretty confused and unsure of myself....and I like to understand things, not only do them......
So if anybody can explain it to me, it will be very appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alain

  • External number range for products

    Hi forum,
I try to upload product in the transaction COMMPR01 with the function: CRMXIF_PRODUCT_MATERIAL_SAVE.
Everything is OK when the product id is not a number, but my client need to give to products a number.
I assign to my category a number range extern, but it doesnt work.
The error when i debug is the next:
    A   |COM_PRODUCT_SETTINGS|016   |7 : Product ID 7 has an invalid format
Any suggestion or idea about this problem¿?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mon

    Hi Mon,
This might be because of the numeric product ID there. if you see the product Id you are passing is 7, which is a number. But, you convert the same and store to database it will be stored with 0 prefixed. For eg. some thing like 0000000007. Number of 0's depends on the lenght of the field.
To avoid this probably you can suffix the product id (which is a numeral here) with 0's and use them. Probably you can use PACK/UNPACK (eith of these two ABABP statements) to get the required product ID.
    This should work. please try.
    Best Regards,
    Sruendra

Appendix F: How to Unpack the Handling Unit Material?
A handling unit is a physical unit that consists of the packaging materials (load carrier / packaging material) and the goods contained therein. A handling unit is always a combination of materials and packaging materials. All the information contained in the material items, such as batches and serial numbers, is always available by way of the handling units.
Handling units can be nested, meaning that you can also create new handling units from several handling units as often as you like.
Handling units have unique, scannable identification numbers that can be formed according to standards such as EAN 128 or SSCC.
    Figure 1: Handling unit example
    Structure
The handling unit object contains the following attributes:
    •     Identification number
    •     Dimensions
    •     Weight
    •     Volume
    •     Status
    •     Materials and quantities
    •     Packaging materials
    •     Packing instructions
A handling unit consists of a handling unit header and handling unit items. For identification purposes, it is given a unique number.
    Handling unit header
The header data of a handling unit is divided in the following way:
    •     Weight/Volume/Dimensions
    •     General data
    •     Means-of-transport data
    •     Additional data
    •     Output determination procedure
For more information about each of these detailed points, see Editing detailed data for handling units.
    Status
The handling unit is linked to general status management. In this way, the various physical states (planned or implemented) and other attributes (weighed, loaded, blocked or posted goods issue) of handling units can be documented.
You can use the HU_ST_INIT user parameter when you create handling units without object reference to set which initial status the handling unit is to have when it is created.
If you want to implement a status of your own, you can define a user-specific procedure for the packaging material type (see also Define Packaging Material Types).
    Handling unit item
The items of a handling unit can consist of material items, packaging materials or other handling units that appear in an overview. For more information about this overview, see the Contents section of Editing detailed data for handling units.
To access the item data of an individual handling unit, select the handling unit concerned and choose Goto &#61614; Detailed HU data &#61614; Contents.
    Integration
Handling units can be used in all processes within the supply chain.

  • Excise invoice and domestic invoice sharing same number range

Hi,gurus,my question is addresed to the sap cin gurus
Scenario:-- Normally sap has provided provisions that the domestic invoice and the excise for the export will have different number range object
Transaction-snum or snro(As per the rule the no range has to be approved by excise authorities)
Requirement:--The present requirement of the client is that as per their requirement they will be using the same excise number range both for domestic and the export(They have got the approval from the excise department as per the amendment, that specifies the same)
so i request you to pls guide me as how can it be done in sap that two different business process will share the same number range.
as per my knowledge local excise number range is-J_1IEXCLOC
and for exports is-J_1IEXCEXPand the both will use the same number range and, suppose 1 local invoice is created and say if the no is 1,then if the export excise invoice is created the number will be 2,pls guide me how is it possible that the same number range should be used.
    Thanks in advance---Anshuman chakraborty

Dear sir,Thanks for attention towards the issue, but still i need to clarify some details-
the number range forJ_1IEXCLOC are already configured .It is not the case like i have to configure it for the first time however ,so the issue remains how shall i proceed in this case
Sir,i have already checked the transaction j1iin,it does not give any such box to check the-use local no range
infact the error message which the system was throwing to the user that-number range object not assigned for Object: J_1IEXCEXP.
The question remains from my side is what are the complete configuration steps I need to do ,to make the check box appear so as to select-use local number range, and is there any thing to be conveyed to my developer,so that the same appears,
or is it the case like the anything should earlier have been done before the number range for J_1IEXCLOC was created.i would request u to pls guide me giving the complete details of the step to be followed.
    Thanks in advance
