Pacman installing corrupt files - MMDF Mailbox?

On two separate occasions I have run into problems with packages after updating them.
Binary files have been turned into garbage, running 'file' on them results in 'MMDF mailbox'. I opened one of them and it was filled with '^H' characters.
It seems to effect all the packages from a specific Pacman update command. Yesterday I got updates to Krita and Awesome, today those files where corrupt. The downloaded packages themselves seem fine. I don't remember any issues reported by the update.
I fixed the issue by reinstalling all the packages on the system, but it seems like it might be a bug that should be tracked down.
Not sure if its a Pacman bug or if there is something else going on such as a filesystem issue (I'm on Btrfs).

  • Help with 11g install - corrupt file "filegroup15.jar" (Windows 32bit)

Hi, I'm having problems installing 11g. I've downloaded the .zip file a thousand times, and each time I get a CRC problem on the following file in the .zip:
    database\stage\Components\oracle.ctx\11.1.0.6.0\1\DataFiles\filegroup15.jar bad CRC df37af05 (should be 38b64725)
I don't see anyone else complaining about the problem, so it must be something on my side, but not sure what. I've downloaded multiple times, on multiple computers, both with and without a download manager. Any suggestions on how to get around this (the file is over 140 Mb or I'd ask that someone simply email it to me...)
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
    Scott

Sorry I wasn't clear, the corrupted file filegroup15.jar is the one that's 140 Mb in size.
Looking under Windows, I see the following filesize info for the entire .zip:
    Size: 1.73 Gb (1,868,327,005 bytes)
Size on Disk: 1.73 Gb (1,868,328,960 bytes)
Does that match what you have?
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Can't boot from harddisk following fresh install, corrupts files

    Hello all,
(Macbook Pro, Core 2 Duo 2.2, 4 gb ram upgrade, otherwise stock)
So, this all started with the combo updater. I repaired my permissions and tried installing the combo updater for 10.5.7. It failed, saying the package it was installing from was corrupt. So I downloaded it again, tried again, same error. I figured I better restart. Kernal panic. Same for all subsequent restarts.
Booted from Leopard DVD, repaired permissions, that worked, then tried to repair disk, failed, couldn't do it. Tried rebooting, still no good. Gave up, formatted the hard drive (Mac extended w/ journaling). Rebooted from DVD again (installer couldn't see the drive, odd) installed Leopard.
But now every time I try to boot from the disk I get stuck on the gray screen. Reset PRAM, no good. Tried safe mode, it gets stuck at the same screen. And when I repair disk permissions I have new errors, and now it again cannot repair the hard drive.
So I can't boot from the hard drive, and when I try it corrupts my disk. I obviously need some help from someone smarter than me, any takers?
    Justin

I would try removing one stick of memory and attempting to reinstall. If it appears to work, add the other back and try to reboot. If it fails on one stick, then try the other. This way you can at least eliminate if its a HD or ram issue.
It sounds like a drive issue, but swapping out ram is easy and can eliminate a lot of other potential causes of the problem.
    Good luck.

  • Corrupt file problems installing latest Flash on Windows Vista - help please?!

When trying to install the latest Flash on my Windows Vista (I'm not great with computers so more than the internet system I use I'm not sure what other details are necessary), I keep getting the message "install_flashplayer11x32_mssd_aih.exe - Corrupt File. File or directory C:\$Secure is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility." As I have no idea what the Chkdsk utility is, or how to run it, can someone please tell me how to fix this problem? Apparently I have Flash Player installed on my computer, but not the plug-in necessary to play media files on the internet. What do I need to do to fix this?

This Microsoft help document should walk you through the steps of using Chkdsk to scan (and repair) your hard drive.

  • Time machine freezing after fresh re-install because of recovered corrupt files

    Hi,
I have a Mid 2009 15" MBP running 10.8.2. Recently, my HDD crashed. And my time machine backup on an external HDD failed to mount (perhaps the backup was also corrupt?). I made an image using Disk Drill just in case and got a new HDD from Apple Support. They put in a new HDD and "recovered" my data. Now, the comp was behaving very very funny, freezing suddenly a few minutes after boot, requiring a hard shud-down and frequent kernel panics. So, I copied some of the important data in my Users folder and did a fresh install of ML on the new HDD. I also got a new external HDD and formatted it propoerly and copied back the files onto the fresh install of ML. At this point, I realised that there were certainly some files there that were corrupt(?) because, the copying back caused hanging a couple of times. Anyway, now the comp works just fine, but as soon as I begin a time machine backup, it completely freezes (just like before requiring a hard shut down), after less than a GB backing up. Please help me.

Hate to tell you this but the 2009 model MBPs were built, assembled, with a very cheaply made HDD to Logic board cable and your original drive may be fine and the cable is the thing that is failing.
I suspect this because once a drive fails it is near impossible to get any useful data off it. So if Apple was able to copy your files from the old drive to the new one that drive is probably still OK. And that you are now still having problems with the brand new drive.
No the problems you are having can not be caused by just having corrupted files store on the drive. The only files that are accessed by the operating system, while booting and running the computer, are those operating system files and whatever programs you are running. even if a program access those corrupted files it would not cause problems with the OS but may crash the program that is opening them.
As for TM not working that again is a sign that the cable is bad because TM can't copy the files to its backup over that bad cable.

  • I download latest software update for itunes and iphone. they successfully download, but then a message comes up saying unable to install as file has been corrupted. what is the cause?

I download latest updates for itunes and my iphone, when it comes to installing, it successfully downloads, but then i get a message for iphone software error=1403 file corrupted, and for itunes it downloads, then when i try to install it a message says unable to install software, file maybe corrupted!!

The iTunes update must be downloaded and installed before you try and use it to update the iPhone OS
Download iTunes 10.2.2 from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1103
When it completes it will auto mount the disc image and show you the package installer, don't try and do anything with the file until it gets to this stage.
Once that's installed reboot the Mac, run iTunes, connect your iPhone and let it sync, then hit the update button and let it complete that step by itself (which will require a restart of the iPhone)

  • SOLUTION for "corrupt file/directory" unable to install FLASH

How many of you have run into trouble trying to install or update Flash Player and got the message about a corrupt file/folder at "C:/windows/system32/macromedia/flash"?  If you are like me, when you got it you first tried to install again.  Didn't work.  Then you went thru the troubleshooting steps listed online (i.e.  uninstall, manually install, run Flash uninstall tool, etc.).  Nothing worked, right?  Yeah me too!
Then you got really mad and tried to delete that nasty "Flash" folder/directory.  And like me you found out that the system won't let you.  Like me, you probably wasted some time trying to bootstrap the file permissions to allow you to delete it, and, unless your one of Microsoft's senior techs and know the mythical secret "God Level" access permission code, you too failed!
Then brilliance struck (which happens about as often as that second lightning visit!)!  Here is the solution and it's rediculously simple:  rename the file!!
Doesn't matter to what, just change it and ignore it;  so will the Flash Player installer!  Go download and install the player and it will recreate that directory all nice and shiny and new and, most importantly, UN-CORRUPTED!
    I thank you!
    Olde Greywoolf

Adobe stopped supporting Google, so try with older version of flash and install it manually

  • Unable to install 10.7.3, checksum error/corrupt file

I am having problems installing 10.7.3, I tried both the combo and software download methods and both result in similar error messages about checksum errors / corrupt file. I have cleared out any previous updates from my update folder, restarted router, restarted imac, tried download several times between last night and today but no getting past the error messages. The software update method tells me the file is corrupt during the restart installation, the combo download displays the error about checksum when I attempt to open it. Also tried from disk utility and get the same message.
Any advice on how to proceed? I currently have 10.7.2 installed, have no problems downloading other files (downloaded some video from itunes & applications recently although not as large as the 1.3G file that 10.7.3 is). My ISP has a download cap so every attempt reduces my retry.

Spoke too late, at the end of the install the summary window reads:
    The installation failed
The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
Back to square one again. Still on 10.7.2.
First time in my apple owning period I have encountered problems such as this, its all worked up until now!

  • When I try to update firefox to the latest version, it comes up with a corrupt file error and won't install. Same for adobe flash player.

It seems that as of yesterday 05/10/13, anything that is downloaded will not install. Tried updating to the latest version of firefox, but that give the error of corrupt files.

It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is otherwise interfering with downloading files.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
    See:
    *browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • Hard drive error - Corrupt files - Archive and Install?

    Hi
I have been using Onyx for a while and last week it asked me to reinstall the Snow Leopard disc.  I verified this in Disk Utility first and that also advised I had corrupt files.  I installed the disc and all seemed fine when i checked again in Disk Utility.  But now a week later I have the same problem and not sure whether it is a problem with 0SX or my hard drive.  My mac pro is still under Applecare and they advised tonight that I should do another archive and install and if does not fix then to take the machine into my local Apple store.
Red part of Error message is - Invalid volume file count - it should be 362310 instead of 362313 and Invalid volume directory count - it should be 99776 instead of 99773.
The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.  - Error: This disk needs to be repaired etc.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem.  I use Aperture 3 & Final Cut Express and until recently had problems getting the two to work together until Applecare helped.
    Many thanks
    Matt

Other people have certainly experienced a corrupt HFS volume header, which is what you have, or did have. It should be a very rare occurrence. If it happens frequently, then your drive is probably failing and should be replaced.

  • Luupgrade to install new OS uses corrupted /var/sadm/install/contents file

The /var/sadm/install/contents file on a system got corrupted, big time. I figure my best course of action is to reinstall the OS, because the server is currently out of service, waiting to be deployed to a new application.
Because I'm still learning about luupgrade, I decided to use that route to re-install Soloris9. I have done the following:
    metadetach d0 d20
    metadetach d3 d23
    metaclear d20 d23
    lucreate -A 'Solaris9' -n 'Solaris9' -m /:/dev/dsk/c1t1d0s0:ufs,preserve -m /var:/dev/dsk/c1t1d0s3:ufs,preserve
    then,
    luupgrade -u -n Solaris9 -s /cdrom/cdrom0/s0
This ran fine, almost... Output from luupgrade included a notice that 19 packages failed to install properly. I found the list of the 19 packages, and the output from their pkgadd. These messages indicated that there were problems with the /var/sadm/install/contents file, preventing these from being added.
Is it possible to run luupgrade to install a brand new OS, without using the current/active BE's 'contents' file, but still using other system configuration info like vfstab, dfstab, passwd, shadow, ...
    Thanks in advance for help.

Your friend with a Mac first downloads it onto his Mac using your Apple ID. Then for Mavericks, see the following for creating a bootable installer on a flash drive.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2056561/how-to-make-a-bootable-mavericks-install -drive.html
Scroll down to the section  Create the Mavericks install drive: The options
For Yosemite, 10.10, I don't know if anyone knows yet how to make a bootable flash installer for that. When it's released I'm sure there will be ways of doing that published in the usual places.
And if you want to get 10.10, I would strongly suggest not getting it right away. You should wait for at least several point updates until most of the very well known bugs are gone.

  • Corrupted files, how to do erase and install?

I recently purchased an iPhone 4 which had issues syncing video to iPhoto and in the process seems to have corrupted my iMac. Everything is running incredibly slow and despite multiple permission repairs, PRAM resets and restarts the issues persist.
It got the point where I tried a library rebuild on the iPhoto which seemed to repair many of the issues, but general lag through the whole system persisted. I followed with a rebuild on the iTunes library but the slowness is still there.
I had an appt down at the genius bar and they ran full diagnostic showing that the hardware on the iMac was sound but they saw the issue and recognized that it was beyond acceptable.
It was suggested that I try an archive and install that I did yesterday. That took about 6 hours and doesn't seem to have fixed anything. iTunes is still running moderately slow and although iPhoto is fine, Safari is non responsive and merely clicking on the apple menu takes 4 min to open.
I have looked for anything unusual in the activity monitor and nothing stands out. I am out of ideas and looking at a full fresh install.
    Questions -
I can't access Time Machine right now from my iMac and when I try to access it from my powerbook by clicking on the sparse bundle file in my external drive, I get a "barber shop bar" scrolling forever while "checking volumes". I just want to make sure I am backed up before I pull the trigger. Is this the only way to see my time machine volume for my iMac? I tried the ctrl click on time machine but he drive doesn't show up.
How can I do a fresh install on Snow Leopard, it didn't give me any options. Do I access it through the utilities?
How easy can I recover all my files from Time Machine once the update is done? I have never had to access before and being able to just drag and drop would be great.
If there are corrupt files that are causing this meltdown, how will I ensure I don't just reimport them when I have loaded the fresh OS?
Sorry for all the typing, pretty frustrated. Still don't have a solution for the original problem. Just trying to dig out of all the issues that have arisen.

    Mukti,
did you try to install Mavericks, or did you only download its installer without running it? Which version of OS X is currently installed on your MacBook Pro? Do you still have the two grey installation DVDs which originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro? Do you have backups of the files on your MacBook Pro from before you downloaded the Mavericks installer?

  • My OS X Mavericks failed to install. says corrupt files?

[2014-07-10 07:18] [ALPM-SCRIPTLET] If you get distorted sound in skype, try adding PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 to your
[2014-07-10 07:18] [ALPM-SCRIPTLET] env before starting skype. Something like 'export PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60' in .bashrc, for example.

Does anyone know what's going on?
Is there any more information I can provide that would assist diagnosis?

    Hi, thanks for the reply
    /etc/libreoffice/bootstraprc  looks like this:
    [ErrorReport]
    ErrorReportPort=80
    ErrorReportServer=report.libreoffice.org
    [Bootstrap]
    InstallMode=<installmode>
    ProductKey=LibreOffice 4.2
    UserInstallation=$SYSUSERCONFIG/libreoffice/4
    Is this of any use?
EDIT: through finding more applications that don't work I'm beiginning to suspect it is something to do with GTK. QT apps seem unaffected whereas GTK apps are all a bit upset. I can, for example, access my home directory just fine in dino (qt) and ranger (ncurses).
EDIT 2: It appears only gtk2 apps are affected. gtk3 apps seem OK
EDIT 3: I never found a solution, I reformatted the partition and started again (it was only my home partition). I am now back to using ext4.
