Pacman query - find a package containing a file [SOLVED 4 years ago]

I spent 10 min in google trying to find out which arch package has the oggdec program.  I finally found it (vorbis-tools), but I was unable to do it with pacman.  I happened across this page for another distro and luckily, the arch package was named the same as the Debian package.
How can I use pacman to find the vorbis-tool package knowing that I want to search for oggdec?  I read the pacman wiki article but didn't find what I'm looking for.

Not exactly.
Allan wrote:There is no feature in pacman to do that.  Install "pkgtools" and use the pkgfile script.

# pacman -Ss pkg

I think dagelf meant it's not called pkgtools.
$ sudo pacman -S pkgtools
error: target not found: pkgtools
They are in the AUR now https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pkgtools/ and pkgfile is a separate package.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • How to open a file purchased some years ago?

    I purchased a book in pdf-format several years ago. When I now try to open it, it says "document needs DRM-functions". Adobe digital aditions is, however, unable to open it. What should I do?

  • How to find drivers for XSERVE-RAID module bought 2 years ago?

    Hello,
    2 years ago, we puchased a Xserve raid module. About 3 months later, they came up with the Primse Vtrack. Now we are looking to add drives to our old X-Serve-Raid module and we can't find anywhere to buy them. Any idea? it is currently loaded with Hitachi Deskstar 250GB Drives (from teh sticker on the drives)

    I believe they are still available at a massively overinflated price as Apple Service parts. Over here in the UK the only places I have found them is on eBay and on http://www.scrumpymacs.co.uk/ (Scrumpy Macs) - email them if you can't find them on the site. They sell drives with ATA drives, or just the bare caddies.
    I've recently had to increase storage on a budget so purchased 10 caddies, then 10x500 GB drives for them from a 3rd party supplier which are the same drive used in 'legit' drive modules.
    Hope that helps

  • Exchange 2010 Rollup 2 SP3 update cannot find installation package exchangeserver.msi file on SBS 2011... NEED HELP!!!

    Hello,
    I am running a windows SBS 2011 standard system and there was currently an update for Exchange 2010 Rollup 2 Service Pack 3 and it keeps failing.  It says that it cannot find the installation package (exchangeserver.msi) and it is looking for it
    in E:\Software\Exchange2010-SP3-x64\ folder but there never was this folder.  There is only an Exchange2010-SP3-x64.exe file.
    The only exchangeserver.msi file that I find on the server any where is in C:\ProgramFiles\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\CMPNENTS\EXCHANGE14_SP1 but it won't accept it (says not authorized for this update or something alike).
    Please help.  It is currently causing issues with email.  Some of the features are not working because it says exchange is currently under maintenance.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

    Susan you are correct:  After I installed Exchange 2010 SP3, I deleted the msi just to "clean up' my hard disk...  While trying to install Rollup 2 for SP3, the installer is trying to find it.  I downloaded the installer, used 7-zip to get
    the msi and I pointed the installer to it when asked.
    The installation failed 3 times...
    NOTE: I was using WSUS to install the Rollup:  I downloaded the Rollup installer and I executed:  I could see where the installer was hanging up!  First it asked me to stop an SBS service and something else (sorry I do not remember), I stopped
    the services and installation continued.  Then it asked me for more files from the SP3 installation which I found on the installation folder that I created with 7-zip.  I copied to the path that the installer was looking and installation finished
    (finally!)...
    NOTE 2:  If you have any firewall appliance that denies Internet access to un-authenticated requests, you better turn that rule off because the installer accesses the internet (not sure why - probably for Dot Net assemblies)...
    Susan THANKS for all your help to the community!  You have helped so much!
    All the Best

    The book is not already on your computer, it's still available in the store, and you bought it with the same account (and you are still in the same country) ?

  • Package contained old version of indd (CS3) file

    Has anyone had this happen to them.
    I packaged a job and sent it away - only to hear back from the printer to say the file was an earlier version of that publication. Huh?
    That job folder containing the linked images had one .indd file which should have been packaged containing the most recent changes that were saved that day. Yet it did not. The package contained a file at least two days old - one that logically no longer exists.
    Is there a cache issue here? This has me flummoxed. Any suggestions would be great. It's a worry because you rely on this package feature to use the most recent saved version of your file!
    Thanks. JETNZ

    I think it is pretty clear from your reference to InDesign insisting on saving.... yes I find that slightly annoying too, but it is common to end up with 2 files, one in the package and one where you started the job and it is very easy to open the wrong one, especially if you use multiple for saving packages.
    If you use the 'open recent' function, it is very easy to open the wrong version.
    When you have changes after first packaging you are forced to make a decision to either delete the original package set or open the new indd file in the packaged version and resave, leaving the original file floating around.
    Either way, there are 2 files and the potential to use the wrong one. I would probably never use the 'open recent' menu because of the risk of opening the wrong file if saving to various versions/locations because there is no indication of the path.
    I know there is no substitute for good work practices in versioning files, but 'open recent' is an obviously high-risk option.
    JETNZ, it is impossible for a file to revert itself, you have likely jumped to the packaged file and then hopped back to the original and repackaged....avoid (re)working on the previous packaged file, delete old packages and keep working on the original set and create fresh packages and when ID wants you to resave, make sure you save over your original.

  • Function to find the Last Date of Month One Year Ago - RETURNS ERROR

    I've written sql code which takes a date and finds the Last Day of the Month one year ago. For example,  it takes the date '2015-04-17' and returns the date '2014-04-30'. The code works fine in a query. Now I'm trying to turn this into a function. However,
    when I try to create the function I get the error:
    Operand type clash: date is incompatible with int
    Why is this error being returned?
    Here is my function:
    CREATE FUNCTION dbo.zEOM_LY_D(@Input Date)
           RETURNS date
    AS
    BEGIN;
      DECLARE @Result date;
      SET @Result =  convert(DATE, DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(m,0,dateadd(m, -11, @Input)+1),0)),101)
        RETURN @Result;
    END;
    Thanks for any help you can give.

    Stan,
    Thanks very much- that does the trick. I should have said I am using SQL 2008 so EOMONTH is not available to me. I still don't get why I got an error though, since I was treating a date like a date and not like an int.
    Thanks, John
    I think i found the issue but i do not know why it is causing the issue. i think may be the way dates are treated/stored internally..i think dates are stored as no of days after 0001/01/01 but cannot see how this cwould effect..may be somebody else can through
    some light.....
    if you make it as datetime it will work,
    if you leave it as date - eliminate adding 1...  you should prefer to use dateadd to add/substract dates.
    try this to understand..
    --removed the +1 in the code
    declare @input date
    set @input ='20150503'
    select
    convert(DATE, DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(mm,DATEDIFF(m,0,dateadd(m, -11, @Input)),0)),101)
    go
    --made the datatype as datetime
    declare @input datetime
    set @input ='20150503'
    select
    convert(DATE, DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(mm,DATEDIFF(m,0,dateadd(m, -11, @Input)+1),0)),101)

  • Where or how do I find the installation package containing "iTunes.msi"?

    I have iTunes 10.5.3.3 installed on my computer with a Windows XP operating system.  I have tried to download the new itunes 10.6 but continually get a pop up which states "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is currently unavailable.  Enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "iTunes.msi".  I have tried  and failed to find this package.
    I have also tried the support page suggestion by uninstalling the old itunes and then install the new one.  This did not work.  Another pop up also tells me that I cannot remove the old (10.5.3.3) itunes...because..." the feature I am trying to use is on a network resource that is currently unavailable". I am caught in a loop.  It appears that I need to locate the "iTunes.msi" installation package in order to be able to uninstall the old and replace with the new iTunes upgrade.
    Where or how do I find the installation package containing "iTunes.msi"?  Secondly, when I find it is there anything special I need to do or be aware of?

  • Pacman -Ss dont find a package that actually exists -gstreamer0.10-mad

    Hi everyone. I'm new to Archlinux but not to Linux. I had problems to play mp3s on rhythmbox cause the appropiate gstreamer plugin to decode mp3 was not installed, so i search with pacman:
    pacman -Ss gstreamer
    . And it find some packages related to gstreamer but not gstreamer0.10-mad and some others like *-vorbis for instance. So i tried installing one by one gstreamer packages appearing in pacman results and openning rhythmbox to see if it works, but it didnt with some tries, so searching google realized that the package gstreamer0.10-mad was neccesary to play mp3s by gstreamer and installed it by pacman -S ... The thing is that when i need a new package or app but didnt know package's name, i obviously search it by pacman -Ss, but problems like this would make my mind to say that searched app or package doesnt exists in archlinux repositories.
    So, there's another pacman option to correctly do that?, or its just a bug with some packages?. Thanks a lot

    Nope.
    "Provides" here just means that the "gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins" provides the same functionality as "gstreamer0.10-mad". When an application says "I need gstreamer0.10-mad", "gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins" steps in and says "I can do everything that "...-mad" can do and more, use me instead.
    In your case you need certain libraries. Those libraries are in the "...-ugly-plugins" package. There is no way to search each package for every single library it contains without downloading it, but in this case because there's a "provides" line, pacman is able to figure out what will do what you need when you search for "...-mad" directly, even though there is no such package (nor group).
    I agree that you should be able to search for "provides" equivalents though.

  • [solved] pacman command to compare package config files

    Hi, Id like to know if there is a pacman command similar to this:
    pacman -Qii | awk '/^MODIFIED/ {print $2}'
    from pacman tips, but where it just checks if the files are not identicle to the default config file of the package?
    From what I can tell, this checks if a file was modified at all (I have copied a config file from a package to a modified package and the file still appears in the output, even though their contents is identicle.
    pacman -Qii | awk '/^MODIFIED/ {print $2}'

    Unless I am misunderstanding you, pacman does that by default; when the upgrade is written to disc, the file in question becomes foo.pacnew which you can easily vimdiff or whatever against the original.
    Yes, but I would like to print out a list of config files that are not identical
    I basically want to see a list of all the config files installed that are not identical to thier original config file,
    pacman -Qii | awk '/^MODIFIED/ {print $2}'
    still lists files which are identical because I think it uses modification times or something else

  • Compiling a package from source files

    I am trying to install a package from source files. The installation instructions for this package say that I should just download the scripts to one directory, enter the correct paths in the Makefile (which comes with the package) and run "make".
    The problem is that while the g++ compiler is there on my computer
    (there is a binary called g++ located at
    /Developer/usr/bin/g++
    I am not sure if that is the real compiler. Or where the c header files are, for instance, I can't find math.h, or stdio.h or any of the other standard files.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am very new to command lines, so please explain as you would to a five year old.
    To help with specifics, I edited the Makefile so that the first part looks like:
    #MATLABDIR ?= /usr/local/matlab
    # for Mac
    MATLABDIR ?= /Applications/MATLAB_R2008b.app
    CXX ?= g++
    #CXX = g++-4.1
    CFLAGS = -Wall -Wconversion -O3 -fPIC -I$(MATLABDIR)/extern/include
    Thanks a ton for the help

    Your compiler program is gcc. (/usr/bin/gcc).
    http://gcc.gnu.org/
    in terminal type (at the prompt):
    gcc --version
    (press return)
    should output the following:
    i686-apple-darwin10-gcc-4.2.1 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5646) (dot 1)
    Copyright (C) 2007 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
    This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO
    warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
    If it does, your compiler is alive and kicking and ready for action, if not, reinstall developer tools
    package from your SL install DVD.
    The usual ritual for compiling is to drag the directory containing the source code to your desktop,
    then, in terminal, change terminal path to the source directory using the change directory command
    "cd".
    example; say I have a program called cdrtools 2.0.1 and the source is in a folder I dragged to my
    desktop called cdrtools_2.0.1:
    In terminal i would type:
    cd /Users/kj/Desktop/cdrtools_2.0.1
    Follow the instructions that come with the package. Typically they will tell you to:
    ./configure
    ( Many packages have a configure script which will query your system and configure themselves
    appropriately. Not supported by all software).
    make
    ( Compile the software. Some require a file name to build such as make foo. make reads a file
    normally called Makefile for what commands to run).
    make install
    ( Install the software. Typically packages will put themselves in /usr/local. Run as root).
    That is the usual ritual, but you must follow the instructions that come with the software, as they
    may vary.
    Read documentation!
    Look for files called: INSTALL, README, SETUP, or similar.
    For more information see the following:
    http://luv.asn.au/overheads/compile.html
    Now beware that some source code written before Snow Leopard was released may not compile
    properly on SL, because of SL's 64Bit gcc extensions. If the source has not been updated to run
    under the Snow Leopard compiler, then the compilation may fail.
    IF the program fails to compile, or fails to run after compiling, then most likely, then the source
    may need updating.
    good luck, and don't pull all your hair out at once. Save some for later.
