Pacman -Syu update, System not booting due to systemd
I have just done a full update on pacman, and now my system is not booting due to this message
systemd[1]: /usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/systemd-gpt-auto-generator exited with status 127
Does anyone know what is causing this, and what a status code of 127 means?

fstab originally existed on my OS before the pacman upgrade. After the upgrade I got the error message mentioned above (and obviously the fstab was there since I didn't touch it). Then after reading that linked topic (where a similar error message was the cause of systems not booting due to a fstab), I deleted the fstab (or more accurately, moved it somewhere else)

Hi Gurus,

Error Message: Change of update mode not possible due to open V3 update
Long text: You are not allowed to change the update mode for application 11 from V3 to another method. This is because there are still V3 update entries for update module MCEX_UPDATE_11 that have not been processed yet.
Pls anyone give solution for this.
Thanks
MuthuHi Sreeni,
i did check in all the below Tcode as you adviced.
1. Clear all record at SM13, LBWQ / SMQ1, Setup tables, RSA7 for particular datsasource or application..
2. For LBWQ provide date range and delete not required records.
I did not get the 3rd point " Need to clear in CLINTS of R/3 system" of your reply.
what does that mean?
I checked all the above tcodes and got the same message as no queue or data exists".
I went SBIW tcode and activated my data source and try to change the Update mode but still it is throwing error message as "Change of update is not possible due to open V3"
Please help me out.
It will be very helpful for me if you could share steps or docs regarding this issue.

After pacman -Syu my system won't boot (It is not grub problem!)
My English is not very strong, so you can look at this photo:
http://img262.imageshack.us/my.php?imag … 102os3.jpg
After pacman -Syu I rebooted computer and my system crash.
No hardware changes, notning else change, only I have done system upgrade.
A little bit more information /etc/fstab:
/dev/sda1 /boot blablabla
/dev/sda2 / blablabla
/dev/vg-home/home /home blablabla
Kernel is booting normal (located at /dev/sda1 ; HDD is OK??), but when system starting "software" and checking the file system / (/dev/sda2), you see in photo result.
Any ideas?
Last edited by SKazas (2008-12-05 07:48:39)I can boot computer from instaliation CD and mount partitions, it is not problem.
I have forgot about emergency booting. But this problem is temporary, there is real problem:
- nvidia-71xx is no longer supported and has been removed from the repositories. Affected users should install xf86-video-nv or xf86-video-vesa, complaints can be sent to nvidia for not providing compatible drivers.
nv driver doesn`t support direct rendering (and 3D), don`t? And I can`t use more archlinux AND other distros after updating to new Xorg?
My video card is Geforce FX5700 (not very bad and old card). -
[Solved] Pacman errors: "call to execv failed", system not booting
Recent upgrade (yesterday) - problems went like this:
1) pacman -Syu attempted "filesystem" upgrade and threw errors about some directories in /usr/local being 775 not 755.
2) that was because I had a non-standard package in there. I changed just those relevant directories to 755.
3) reattempted pacman -Syu but got a bunch of errors: "call to execv failed"
4) system was immediately borked. Reboot now throws me into a shell.
This is a 32 bit system.
Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.

1) used Arch LiveCD. Mounted boot and / partitions
2) pacman -r /path/to/root -Syyu glibc filesystem
3) reboot gave "Unable to find root device error"
4) ran LiveCD again following these instructions: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … onger_boot -
H8-1414 does not boot due to bios update problem
Hi, I did a BIOS update on my desktop last night , now it does not boot up and the motherboard send 8 long beeps with no video output. It seems that 8 beeps correspond to motherboard BIOS problem I was pressing ESC and F10 keys to enter Bios settings but no luck...always 8 beeps and no video. Need to access BIOS setting on the screen or do BIOS reset but don't know how to do it on this case. Any help ?...Thanks! Hi buddy,
You should check the forum content or with other words, use the forum search firstly before you ask something. Failed BIOS update is not unusual and can happen always. The forum contains already a lot threads about this and the only solution is contacting an ASP. The guys have professional tools to recover it.
The same question was asked here:

Pacman -Syu returns system up to date after a new 2008.03 (solved)
I just installed arch from the march 08 live cd (the new cd got stuck on the grub boot screen, but that is another bug for another thread).
I eventually got a totally working installation (installing only core packages).
what's strange is, i've updated pacman's package list and a pacman -Syu says the local system is up to date, but for whatever reason, no package was actually downloaded or updated. My kernel is stil 2.6.24-arch, my klibc is 1.5.5... What gives?
everything i read says all you need to do is run a pacman -Syu, but clearly there should have been updates from the core packages between march and now? (i know there has been, and that packages are updated constantly).
clearly i'm missing something simple here. Sorry for the stupid question.
(i uncommented the achlinux.org repo line in the mirrorlist, and i'm sure this is the server pacman is using).
thanks for any help.

(edited Syu typo and subject, sorry)
Last edited by fop518 (2008-08-28 05:03:57)oops, my bad. that was a typo.
a pacman -Syu yields a local database is up to date
the first time i did a pacman -Sy it downloaded and updated some new dbs... but the -Syu has always returned that the system is up to date, when i'm fairly certain it isnt... if i am running kernel 2.6.24, that is old right? i should be presented with some updates if i just installed the march live cd...
thanks,

External HDD (vfat) being mounted ro after pacman -Syu update
Hi all,
I just updated my laptop using pacman -Syu which didn't throw up any errors, but now my external hard drive mounts as Read Only when I plug it in.
I'm using Gnome desktop. This hard drive has worked fine for months. If I add 'rw' to the volume options field, it comes up with "unknown option" or "invalid option" (can't remember which) when I plug the drive in.
The drive is formatted vat (so I can use it on Windows too) and I can mount it manually fine. What's changed with the update that makes it mount ro?
Any help would be greatDidn't know where to find that - thanks

[SOLVED] Install archlinux from a archlinux system -system not booting
Hey there,
I am trying to install a fresh archlinux system from within an existing archlinux installation. -- I really hope to get help here, I am clueless.
Theoretically this could be posted in the newby section but I think my problem is more special and it's not my first archlinux installation at all.
The facts:
I am renting an ovh server (kimsufi.com) and I want to install archlinux without their special ovh features.
The rescue system (debian) don't let me install archlinux (pacstrap error -> "mount: mount point /mnt/dev/pts does not exist"). Same as here -> https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1231074
Because of that I install archlinux over the webinterface and then I want to install archlinux on another partition.
The problem:
The archlinux system from ovh is working, it is booting fine. My freshly installed system looks to don't boot at all.
There are no logs in /var/log (no dmesg etc.) so I think that it doesn't past grub.
I am clueless what I can do to get it to boot.
What I have tried...
"Pretty everything" I would say but this doesn't help anyone.
pacman -Syu linux mkinitcpio grub <- to be sure everything is installed.
-- Openssh is installed and configured, network is configured, fstab is correct, openssh and netctl is on autostart with systemctl.
mkinitcpio -p linux <- everything ok
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg <- that's also fine
grub-install --recheck /dev/sda <- no problems so far
That's all, I hope I haven't forgotten anything.
Partitions:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 4096 526335 261120 83 Linux <--- /boot of the ovh system
/dev/sda2 526336 19398655 9436160 83 Linux <--- / of the ovh system
/dev/sda3 * 19398656 20445183 523264 83 Linux <--- /boot of the fresh system
/dev/sda4 20445184 26736639 3145728 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 20447232 26736639 3144704 83 Linux <--- / of the fresh system
The bootflag is ignored because grub is installed into MBR.
Please post any ideas, I don't know what I may have forgotten.
Last edited by lookingaty (2014-02-14 21:24:39)Since it's a server by ovh/kimsufi, I am not able to see what's going on with grub. (I have no idea how to diagnose that problem.)
The grub.cfg seems to be correct.
I tried it again without an extended partition, every partition are primary ones. Still no logs.
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 2048 526335 262144 83 Linux <--- /boot of both systems (only grub.cfg changes)
/dev/sda2 526336 19398655 9436160 83 Linux <--- / of the ovh system
/dev/sda3 19398656 25690111 3145728 83 Linux <--- / of the fresh system
At the moment the grub.cfg points to the OVH archlinux, not the freshly installed one.
I have modified that file by hand to OVH archlinux (sda2; UUID changed of course). OVH archlinux boots.
I can run grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg with the fresh system in arch-chroot again but it won't help.
But I can still do this and post it here.
My grub.cfg:
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE
# It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates
# from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub

Which?
tried also vgchange -ay from recover shell but still no luck
Did you do vgscan first? What error did you get or did the command just return empty?
Is the lvm2 hook in mkinitcpio.conf? Have you tried regenerating your initramfs? -
Mac Mini Not booting due to hard disk being full
Hello All,
I have a Mini and has worked well for the past 12 months, last week i upgraded to the OSX Lion which also went very smoothly. However yesterday i had a message on my screen stating the my startup disk was full and i needed to make space. finding this a little odd as I have a TB external hard drive that everything goes to.
the mini frose during the deletion process after leaving for approx an hour i attempted to reboot. from this point i have only been able to access the disk utility through the DVD that came with the mini I have done a disk check and repair, also check permission all are ok exept for only having 49mb of hd space left.
I cant access safe mode as this will not boot either (tried to load for 8 hours) re install will also not work due to the amount of hd space available
has anyone got any ideas how i can clean the hard disk without formatting as ideally i would like to know what is causing the problem.
like a not very bright thing i left the time machine turned off so this isnt an option either??Ok, basically it would involve the following
Boot from the DVD
Launch the Terminal.app probably from a Utilities menu which also lists Disk Utility
In Terminal you would need to type cd /Users/accountname/.Trash followed by pressing the return key
Then you would type ls -l and again press return
It would then list what is in the trash for that user account. If it begins with a D it is a folder, otherwise it is likely a file. The big number before the data would give an idea of the size of the item.
When you have found the one you want to delete (remember you cannot undo this) you would type the following to delete a file rm filename and then press return again.
The do ls -l again to see if the file has gone.
If you want to delete a folder that is in the trash then the command would be rm -r foldername and then again press return. Using rm -r is a particularly dangerous command if you do it in the wrong place or the wrong way you could delete everything on the hard disk.
Normally in single user mode (which you said was not working) you have to type some other commands beforehand to allow modifying the contents of the hard disk. I have not tried this via the DVD so I do not know if the same applied. If it does it is likely to refuse to delete the file and you should come back to me and we can work out the process. -
MacBook crashed during update - will not boot
My wife was using iTunes and was prompted to do seven updates on our MacBook. She was told to hold in the power button during the update, and the machine reset.
Now the machine will not boot and just accesses the CD/DVD drive over and over.
Does anyone here have any ideas?Alright, I was able to fix it.
I had to download the Firmware Restoration image for Intel based MacBooks onto my Windows XP machine. I then used a demo of the program 'UltraISO' to burn the .dmg image.
The macbook was turned on, the disc inserted. Then the macbook was powered off, and powered back on. This time I held in the power button until the long tone and gray screen appeared.
The folks at the Apple Store had no other suggestion other than paying $183 for AppleCare. They need to spend less time telling customers how reliable Macs are and a little more time burning copies of this restoration disc! -

I have an iMac Flat screen running Mac OS X 10.3.9(Panther). At times, when I turn my iMac on, I do not receive the start up screen with the Apple logo and progress indicator. I receive just a blank white screen with no indication that the computer is loading. I do not hear the hard Drive clicking. The boot up sequence never proceeds to the second second screen with the progress bar or the desktop with the Dock. The computer does not respond to pushing the on/off button to turn the computer off. I have to power cycle my power strip to turn the power off. I have verified the Panther10.3.9 icon is in the far left of the System. Preferences-Start-up Disk.
Recommendations would greatly be appreciated.Hi Ali, Cornelius, and littleshoulders,
I checked my CD;s that came with the system when I purchased it and found no system disks. When I came home from my vacation this past weekend and turned on the computer, I received question mark during the start up. I had my cousin, who wrote earlier, come over to look at the computer. He brought a DiskWarrior 3.02 and an Apple Protection Plan CD that contained Tech Tool Deluxe. When inserting the Disk Warrior and pressing the C Key, the system wouldnot boot up. We would get the Apple logo and the progress circle but then the screen would turn blank and a loud fan type noise would come on the iMac. We powered it down. we next placed the Tech Tool CD and pressed the key start up and the Tech Tool diagnostic window came up. We ran the diagnostic and everthing passed.
Still thinking that something may be wrong with the computer, we again tried Disk Warrior. We ran the disk Warrior from the desktop. We were unable to rebuild the system directory. The rebuild button was not active. Testing the hardware showed the drive normal and functioning properly.
My cousin had a copy of the Tiger install disk and when it ran showed no disk utility. His Panther install CD would not mount when pressing the C key at startup, so that was no help.
I am desperate now, not knowing what to do. Since there is no apparent things wrong with the hard drive should I just invest in a copy of Leopard or what?
