Page Action - Shut Down an Extraneous File on "Page Close" trigger

I can open a Notepad (txt editor) on the "Page Open" trigger in Page Properies under Actions.
Does anyone know how to close the same file upon closing the page?
Thank you in advance.

Felix-
Do you have an example that does this?  I saw a similar suggestion in another thread, but could not figure out how to detect the event.  My only experience with "events" is using an event structure to read button presses an other user inputs on the front panel of a VI.
tbd-
I have not explored using the serial port.  I actually need to monitor several UPSs, so a network connection seemed, at the time, like a much simpler approach.  I could do that as a last resort, but I am not ready to give up yet....  Since there is no documentation, I would have to install com port monitoring software and try and decode the conversation between the UPS and manufacturer's monitoring software.
As far as extracting the info from the web page, I got as far as the attached VI by reading this thread.
But it still is just getting the HTML fluff, and not the data that the javascript is writing to the screen.  It's really annoying, because with this VI, I have a display on the VI front panel in which I can see the string I want to get.  It's right there!  I can almost touch it!  But noooooo, I can't have it
Well, if anyone has a smarter thought that I'm capable of, I'm all ears.

  • Abiword shuts down opening a file

Abiword 2.4.5 shuts down, when I open a *.doc file, created with Word 2003. I tried different documents, but it's still the same. Abiword closes down without any error message.
When I open the documents with Open Office, I don't have any problem (apart from the ugly font-rendering).
I wondered, whether or not abiword-plugins are needed, so I tried to install them.

  • My IMac shuts down when transfering files to a Hard Drive through USB

    Hi all,
I have been having trouble with my IMac. It's over 3 years old and I didn't actualized the operative system. Everytime I try to transfer files from the computer to a hard drive or pen drive (through USB), the computer shuts down. Sometimes it restarts, sometimes it gets shut. I wonder what's the issue and if getting a newer operate system (Snow Leopard maybe) will help.

  • Satellite A200-AH3 shut down instead of standby when I close the lid

    Hi,
I have a Notebook Satellite A200-AH3. When I bought it Windows Vista was preinstalled (I still have de recovery disc). When I closed the lid the system standby (I mean the monitor turn off as the HD, the cooling fan and everything else). The On/Off light on the laptop turned to a blinking orange light.
Then I opened the lid and Windows prompted me the logon screen. This process only happened when the laptop run on the battery, not when it was plugged. Everything was fine like that.
But I formated the HD to install WIndows XP which I bought because Windows vista seem to be too heavy for my laptop. So I installed Windows XP and all the driver and software found on the Toshiba website. Now when I close the lid, Windows shutdown very rapidly (about5-6 seconds). However it is a real shut down. When I reopen the lid nothing happen.
Then I press the power button and Windows start normally (no screen saying that windows close annormally and no Safe-Mode starting option). Even if I change the setting in the Control Panel/Power Option or in the Toshiba Power Saver Utility and I set them to Standby, it always perform a shut down.
    How do I restablish that?

What Lars tries to say is that your notebook goes into stand by mode as it should the issue could be that the display does not wake up from stand by when you open the lid.
On the Toshiba European driver page there are different A200 series but I didnt find your series.
Looks like this notebook model is not a European series but Toshiba Canadian notebook.
So you would have to visit the Toshiba Canadian page to get the right BIOS and drivers.
As Im not mistaken there should be also an Toshiba Power saver for Win XP.
    Please configure it properly.
In Setup action (power saver tab) you can set the setting what should happen when you close the lid.

  • Macbook pro shuts down when my iphone 5 is close.

When I have my iphone 5 close to my Macbook Pro, my Mac shuts down until I move the phone away from it. I presume the technology in the phone is interrupting the technology of the Mac but it shouldn't do that in my opinion. My friend has the same model Macbook Pro and Iphone5 and it happens to her as well. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue or has any tips.

I would guess that you are placing the iphone 5 near the right side of your notebook.  Most likely the magnets int eh speakers/microphone are tripping the lid close switch making the notebook thinking that the screen has been closed putting the system to sleep.
I used to have that happen to me all the time when I would accidentally set a portable hard disk on the palm rest of my MacBook Pro.  The magnet in the HD would trip the lid close sensor and put the system to sleep.

  • My MBP shuts down or sleeps (?) when I close the lid

    Hi
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I haven't been able to solve it on my own by investigating, asking others og reading this forum.
My MBP from late 2007 has recently started to shut down/sleep (or maybe even "hibernate" - not sure which is the right term) when I close the lid - meaning that when I open it, it *doesn't wake up automatically* like it used to. *I need to push the "on" button and it takes it a while to start up*. It doesn't start up from scratch; it shows the last screen shaded in a light grey tone - and it's takes quite a few seconds to get ready. As far as I recall, it "woke up" automatically before.
I haven't changed my preferences - and they are all set to "never", as my MBP is nerly always connected to the adaptor.
Any clues to what happened and how I can change it? It's really annoying!
    Thanks,
    Carina

    Welcome!
When my MBP started that same behavior, I found that I had accumulated a huge list of wireless networks on my travels. Reviewing the system log, I found my computer was trying to connect to one, a hotel network to which I had connected weeks before and miles away.
Here's how I fixed it (I have 10.5.8, not 10.6, but the fix should be the same):
    1) Open System Preferences and select "Network."
    2) Be sure "Airport" is selected in the left side of that preference pane.
    3) Click the "Advanced" button. If the next screen does not have the "Airport" tab selected, select it. There should be a window with a list of networks.
    4) Use the + and - buttons below to remove any networks you have accumulated that are not needed. Example: on mine, I removed all but two networks--our home network and the one at a local museum where I volunteer.
    5) Once you'd cleaned off the list to the bare necessities, uncheck the option labeled, "Remember any network this computer has joined." This will not prevent you from using other networks on later travels but will prevent them building up and creating problems.
That completely cured my wake-from-sleep problems. and other have said it worked for them, too.

  • My smart cover isn't shutting down the iPad 2 when I close it.

My iPad is not locking when I shut the smart cover

I have checked my settings and they are as you suggest - the cover lock is set to "On". However, it still does not consistently shut down the iPad 2 and sometimes I find that it has been on all night and drained the battery. How sensitive is the cover to movement - does it change settings when it is in a briefcase and being jostled around a bit for example?

  • System shutting down when converting files

Downloaded 7.5.0.20 and when I try to convert files into Ipod format from existing WMA my PC goes into uncommanded reboot. Not linked to any other applications that I can see and happens too frequently to be anything else. (Running latest AVG antivirus V7.5.516
Have NEVER had this problem before, and have 23Gb of files in Windows Media Player.
Anyone have any thoughts on what might be conflicting or causing the issue?

Found the problem lay with hardware not software - actually overheating the PC as the chip heatsink was clogged with dust. Strange that nothing else had caused reboot but then again life can be strange.....

  • My computer is not shutting down properly

So i bought my Macbook Pro with Retina display less than a year ago, in late 2013. it had Mac OS X. Back then, i downloaded a few dodgy softwares to try and run Windows 7 as a virtual machine. I don't remember what i downloaded, but i remember i used VMWare and one other before it i installed. Anyway, ever since back then, when ever i shut down my computer, the Finder would close and icons on the desktop would dissappear, but the dock and desktop background would remain, and not shut down. So i used to hold the power button, and then press shutdown and it would shutdown.
Now that i have upgraded to Yosemite OS, when i shutdown the computer, after the Finder goes, and the dock remains, i hold the power button and it shuts down instantly. When i turn the Macbook back on, it gives me a message that i shutdown unexpectedly and asks whether i want to re-open the applications.
There is something holding back this machine from shutting down. i tried deleting the cache, deleting the logs of VM Ware, but i still get this problem....
    Can anyone help me?

Sorry for the late reply, as I have been busy and avoiding this headache.

In regards to step 2, I cannot find any crash reports or shutdownstall reports or any of that, but just old reports that i am sure aren't relevant to this problem.
Sorry for those long lines of report. I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Problems shutting down illustrator cs3

    greetings -
just curious if anyone else has had issues w/ illustrator not shutting down (i.e., file/exit). i have yet to attempt an uninstall/reinstall since it took a long time to install cs3 on my machine the first time (had to restart it once).
about 9 out of 10 times when exiting illustrator, it will freeze up, and i have to do a "ctl+alt+delete"" to terminate the process.
    any thoughts are appreciated.

I've been having this daily problem of this 'hanging-on-quitting' problem, too, until I saw this first post (recently, always searching for solution thru other forums as well) and thought that what might be the problem..., often times I would just quit by clicking the Close button, too. For a while, it did work (if I'm using Illy for short period of time) it doesn't hang - but if I would keep it up & work with it for a long period of time, then on quit (even with the File>Exit method) it'll go blank & 'hang' (again). I'm "wild-guessing", but could it be something to do with application's cache/memory issue? I mean, its seems like the more I use it, the more it keeps "building-up inside" so to speak. Also I agree whole-heartedly with JET's post #29 (under "New to Illustrator - all I want to do is draw a triangle") concering the "inelegance" of Illustrator, etc. He really said it well. It seems that each Illy's "improvement" is two-steps-backward at the same time. Very frustrating! I have Windows XP SP2 on two different machines. I hope this post would help to bring out any other thoughts or ideas on this annoying issue.

  • Can't shut down..

If someone could help with this it would be much appreciated!
When I try to shut down my MacBook Pro I get a window saying "The Finder cannot quit because some operations are still in progress"
The operation in progress appears to be the trash window which says "preparing to move to trash - Items to delete: 1"
But it won't let me close this window or stop moving the items to trash, in fact there is nothing being moved to the trash!!
Yesterday I was burning some cd's and I think when I ejected the disc this is when the problem began?
    Any advice?

Hi stepht, welcome to Apple forums
The easiest way out of this is to try and relaunch the Finder or force shut down your mac.
To relaunch the finder bring up the Force Quit window either from the Apple menu or with the key combination OptionAltEsc.
Select the Finder from the list then click "Relaunch".
If this doesn't work just press and hold down the power button until your mac shuts down (save all your work and close all applications.
Once restarted run disk utility and check the disk permissions, if the trash still shows content try to empty it again.
(BTW, this will not damage any of your files, perhaps only what's being moved to the trash or whats about to be deleted from the trash)
