Page and Tab Security

Hi
This is probably a very basic issue and shows my lack of experience with the product.
I have a number of tabs across a page. One of the tabs I need to control so that only certain users will have access to it. I have set Item level security for this tab and assigned it to a new group 'KEY_USERS'. I have added a user to it and tested the application but I am still able to see the tab when I log on as a user not in the Group.
Can anyone please explain what I am missing here please ? Remeber I am still new to Portal !

Have reviewed the Portal Group and removed the AUTHENTICATED_USERS privilege and created View Only access to the group that I've created as well as a specific user. This still doesn't work so I have a further question please ?
I have created a set of 5 tabs across a page. I need to control access to 1 of these tabs so it is only visible for persons assigned to a particular Group. Am I correct that it is possible to control access to 1 Tab item or is it only possible to control for all tabs in a region ? Hope the question makes sense ?

I am getting PAGE_CREATE error while adding a new page. On create new page, after filling page name & description it displays the error message below.
I am runing iAS9\Portal 3.0.8.9 on Win NT4.
No installation errors.

Any suggestions on how to fix this (other than re-installing portal).

Well ... this appears to be a serious problem with the Portal as it renders it incapable of adding pages and tabs. I've tried reinstalling it on 3 different servers, used another instance of Oracle database, and the result is still the same. No installation errors, and suddenly after 7-10 days this error starts appearing.
Am I the only one experiencing this type of error? ...and can anyone offer\suggest ways to fix it?

A cleaning utility deleted my browsing history! My fault! I want to re-open the old pages and tabs. The info may be in an old "sessionstore.js" or "places.sqlite" file but these are huge and some URLS are written backwards. Where do I start please?

I have copied "places.sqlite" and given it a .txt extension, then opened in Wordpad - but it's huge - I don't know what order it's in and many of the URLS are written backwards - like "moc.smooretal.www" instead of "www.laterooms.com."
Similarly there are several numbered versions of sessionstore.js in the profile and these can be opened with a text editor too. But if I simply substitute the current sessionstore.js file with an older (numbered) one in the profile, Firefox seems to ignore it.
So:
1. Is there a method of re-installing the "history" sites list or "previously opened pages and tabs" from the 'places.sqlite' file, or from a previous sessionstore.js file (and if so how do I go about it ?)
2. If not, is there an alternative source of browsing history back-up which I can use or
3. If not that either, is there at least a way of reversing the backwards text so I can read the URLs and copy/paste them?
All knowledgeable help much appreciated.

Firefox has other backups it makes automatically, unfortunately your cleaning utility may have wiped them.

sessionstore.js files probably are of little use to you, containing only the tabs & windows from recent close downs, not the full history and bookarks.
Now that any existing files are safe try to see if any backups exist that firefox created automatically

* they can most easily be used by opening the bookmarks library, as explained in the article linked above.

There are sqlite editors available, including some as add-ons for firefox.

Pages and Tabbed Windows

Safari was the first browser I used that had tabbed browsing and now Adobe has incorporated it into their programs, but I cannot seem to find a way to create tabs in Pages '09. I am really hoping I am missing something because this just seems like something that should be available. If it's not, I sure hope it is in '11. If anyone has a comment or a solution for me, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

You can obtain similar functionality using various features of Pages and Mac OS X.
If you want to jump between ages on a Page Layout document, just click the page thumbnail in the page list to the left of the main window.
In a word processing document you can do the same thing, but you first have to use the View button to View Page thumbnails.
If you have several documents open in Pages, you can cycle through them using command-tilde (the tilde ( ~ ) is the character on the key to the left of the 1 on North American English keyboards.
Or you can use OS X's Exposé to show all open windows in the application by pressing F10. Clicking on a page will bring it to the front.
Beyond that, command-tab will cycle through the running applications, and with Exposé, pressing F9 will show all the windows you have open. As with windows in a single application, clicking on any window image in Exposé will bring it (and its application) to the front.
Exposé will also let you hide all of the open windows so you can see (and select something on) the desktop. Press F11. Pressing any one of these keys a second time will return you to where you were.
Syatem Preferences > Dashboard and Exposé (may be named differently in Leopard & Snow Leopard) will let you set mouse shortcuts for the Exposé actions.

Active tab page and tab

I would like to know how to make active tab page stands out from other tab pages. For example, tab page background color and tab background color in light gray. Tab text in white. Any ideas?

as far as I know this is not possible. One way to do what you want is to use all uppercase letters for teh active / selected tab and all lower case for the other.

I have "show a blank page" selected but since I've downloaded the latest version it always restarts with whatever pages and tabs I had open in the previous session. How do I fix this?

If you do not use "Show my windows and tabs from last time" then make sure that Firefox closes properly to prevent session restore from reopening a possibly crashed session.

Close tab groups actually closes tabs rather than just the grouping. How do I recover all tabs, not just the last 10? Pages and tabs are not in recent history.

I had a problem with tab groups - if I mistakenly close tab groups, I can only recover the last 10 tabs.
I had a window with many more than 10 tabs which I reopened each session by going to History > Recently Closed Windows. I knew this was risky - I could lose this if I did not keep it in an open window or recently closed window. So I was looking for a way to save this window with all the tabs. I looked into tab groups and, not knowing what I was doing, I closed the groups of tabs. There seems to be no recovery for other than the last 10 tabs. And open tabs are not necessarily in recent history if I have not accessed the tab and refreshed.

I don't use tab groups myself, but I know of a way to increase the number of closed tabs that Firefox remembers. Unfortunately, it's not retroactive...
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the following preferences and enter the preferred new value:
(A) '''browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo''' (default: 10)

Regarding what is in history, by default, Firefox will load tabs on demand when you restore a session, rather than loading every single tab immediately. If you turned off that setting, or if you visited all the tabs, then those pages should be in history, but finding them amidst all the others would be quite a challenge...

I just updated to Firefox 3.6.12 and now every time I click anything online a new tab opens. How do I return to normal (clicking a link opens it in current page and tab)?

I'm used to clicking a link on a news story or any searched link on google and having my current page go there. Now my current page stays the same and any link I click opens in a new tab. This is very annoying. I just want my browser to go there.

Firefox doesn`t open the last visited page and tabs but the home page

my settings are: open the page i last visit and the last opend tabs but instead it only opens the homepage, tried to change the settings but without effect

Hi,
I want to know how to implement either
1. On the Group of dashboard name when clicked it needs to drop down (I know how to do that), now in that drop down options, if I go to say 'Option A' that has to open up another group of options.
ex: Master Group Dashboard: Fin Analytics
--> AP (when mouse goes here Open) -->AP Aging
--> AP XXX etc
--> GL
--> AR
-----------------OR-------------------
2. Can we create tabs under pages? I believe so, Can anybody guide through the process?

- Go to edit Dashboard
- Besides Page name (Default is Page 1) click the + button

Assigning the role to user - not getting the page and tabs showing.

I have a role with a page that contains 2 demo iviews. They preview ok. but when I assign the role to user, it does not come up. Could some one send me a help document for SP2?

Pages in Tabbed pages

Can somebody point me in the right direction. The functionality I am trying to achieve is by linking a number of pages to my tabbed page and subject to the user logging on will only be able to see their relevant page.
The page is to be displayed directly in the current page area.

As posted earlier you can achieve this by granting access level privileges to user's on certain pages.
Enable the Item level security on page and Tab(My Home Tab)and in the My Home Tab, you can create page link items to point to different pages. Edit each of these items and grant the respective privilege to the users. So the user who logs in will see only the links to those pages which he has been granted access.But the portal_admin user will be able to access all the pages.
