  • Choosing page layouts for books in iPhoto 6

    Hello -
I am trying to create my first book in iPhoto version 6.0.6. I think I pretty much have a handle on how to do it, except for choosing the page layouts. I am using the picture book theme. When I am on a certain page, if I want to change the page layout, when I click on the "page layout" button, I only have the option of with or without text. I cannot choose to change this page to have one picture or to have three pictures; only to have what is already showing, with or without text.
Do only newer versions have this option?
Also, I cannot find anywhere the option of changing the background color from white. I have seen the suggestions about scanning in other images to make backgrounds, but shouldn't there be at least another option besides white?
    thanks

  • Customizable layouts for books?

Is it possible to customize page layouts for books in iPhoto? For example -- it drives me crazy that there are layouts with 4 or 6 photos but none with 5. Or, that all the photos in a 8 page layout have to be exactly the same size and that you can't adjust the sizes of pictures in the layouts. Is it possible to create your own layouts for the iPhoto books? Or at least adjust picture size, etc. in the existing layouts?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. No, there are no such themes or layouts. What some do is to create a full page layout in a 3rd party editor like Photoshop Elements that can handle layers and use it on a 1 photo per page layout. However, any frames or special borders won't be easily created.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • On iPhoto, I can no longer access the 'Classic' option which would lay out my photos on the page. It will send them as attachments only. I need the page layout for my work. Any thoughts as to why this has changed?

On iPhoto, I can no longer access the 'Classic' option which would lay out my photos on the page. It will send them as attachments only. I need the page layout for my work. Any thoughts as to why this has changed? It used to fully lay out the photos so I could add notes and detailed information before I sent them. I am thinking it is something simple that I have just missed...

The "Photos" view has been replaced by the Media Browser.
Most applications will show you the Photos icon in the Sidebar, when you need to select photos in a file chooser dialoge. Mail, Safari, the iWork apps. See Terence Devlin's User Tip: How to Access Files in iPhoto
For example, in the File > Open dialogue in Preview I am seeing this in the sidebar.

  • Replacing master page layout for documents

Hi all! I have been making a book, and have been using our standard master page layout. I now have to change the master page layout of the whole book, and I have made a document that uses the new master page layout. I did the typical make new master page layout, gave it a name, and everything seemed normal. I then went to add it to the existing documents but, my new layout is nowhere to be found. How do I add this new layout? I thought I could just change out the current master page layout for the new one. The only changes are the graphics at the top, and some header and footer changes. Body text stays the same. I'm on FM11 by the way.

    > I then went to add it to the existing documents ...
How? Import Formats from the Book menu should do what you want, followed by an Apply Master Page operation (assuming the new pages have exactly the same names as the old pages to be replaced).

  • The page layouts for a book created in iPhoto are blank. How do I get the original book back?

    I have a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X, version 10.7.5, Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Processor 2.53GHz, Intel Core 15. iPhoto '11 version 9.4.3.
I created an iPhoto book using iPhoto '9 in 2010. I bought the book and now want to buy another book. When I went to iPhoto, I discovered that all of the pages are blank. In the thumbnail for photos in project, the photos that I used are checked. Now I see that other photos for different books also show in the "photos in project" panel. Should I delete these foreign photos? How do I get the original book pages/layout back? Help! Patnd

Do you have a back up?
If not you're into using file recovery software like  File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.
There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store

  • Custom page layouts for iPhoto books- bleeds and type

I've been digging through the forum for info on creating custom page layouts. I have the basics: print PDF (to capture the page BG and graphics elements), manipulate in PhotoShop and place the custom page as a full page photo.
How does iPhoto deal with bleeds? Since I'm trying to recreate the style of the other pages I'd like it to match.
Is all type in an iPhoto book rasterized? The printed PDF retains type. Will rasterized type in PS layouts match "native" text in iPhoto?
I haven't purchased a book yet and I'm wondering if the book is sent to Apple as a PDF with vector data. If that's the case can custom pages be inserted into the PDF with vector type intact?
    Thanks all!
    rg

    gatz:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't know much about bleeds but you can manipulate it in the iPhoto preference file with Pref Setter.
Regarding the rasterized type, you'll have to give it a try and then create a pdf of the book to check it out. In iPHoto 5 we used to be able to get a copy of the pdf file that was uploaded to Apple but in V6 that's not possible. I think the pdf file may be the same as we get when creating it via Print to PDF. Here's the info I received from Apple about book quality and materials:
I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:
KODAK NEXPRESS 2500 Digital Production Color Press
I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions on the iPhoto forum."

  • Can I create a completely custom page layout for a book, positioning and sizing pictures and text?

I'd like to create a totally custom page, inserting photos at various locations and sizes as well as text regions.  Can this be done?   I haven't been able to find a way to do this.

I've found it's worthwhile spending time fiddling and adjusting Lightroom's templates and saving to Custom Pages but I haven't found a way of removing a custom page layout once I've finished using it or tweaked it some more. Can you say how to remove one, please, johnbeardy? I can put them in and out of Favourites but the Custom Pages list just gets too long.

  • How do I create a template/page layout for artwork for a folder?

Hi can someone please explain how I can create a page layout in Indesign CS5 to design the artwork for a folder.  The folder is an A4 paper wallet type folder with a 3mm spine - I'm just not sure how to build this on the page!  I have a subcription to lynda.com but can't seem to search out a relevant tutorial.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Olwen

Do you mean for a Pocket Folder?
Here's a quick and dirty way.
New document > Page Size > A3 > Toggle wide
Place your curser in the width and after the dimension type +3mm
    Set Columns to 2, Gutter = 3mm
    Margins 0
    Bleed, if needed, to 3mm

  • 100 page limit for books

I want to make a book with more than 100 pages. Aperture gives me a warning that I cannot use the online "Buy Book" function - but when I look at the options online it appears that you cannot make a book over 100 pages.
Anyone know whether this is possible? And if so, can I upload my book and purchase some other way? Or how do I get it published?
Thanks to the gurus in advance.

Good luck. Just as a thought: You can layout the entire book with a page count as you desire, then click on the book to start the process by which you order the book. The first thing Aperture will do is ask for your account info, then it will assemble the book. This creates the PDF file to be sent to printing services and can take anywhere from a few minutes to a half hour. After it is finished, a window comes on the screen asking if you would like to purchase the book or proof/preview the book. The option buttons given are to "continue" or to "reveal in finder." If you reveal in finder, it will show the hidden temporary folder in which this book is located. You can copy it and paste it on your desktop if you do not intend to order it through apple. Then, you can use the PDF layout to send the book to another publisher. I am not sure how dual page full spread photos work out, nor do I know how the cover works out with other publishers as they have different Cameo sizes and quantities. But, you can send it to a different publisher nonetheless. I believe the PDF file is created at 300 dpi. I am not sure though.
Next, if you would like to share the PDF's with a client, someone in the family, etc...I read somewhere that you can open Colorsync utility and the select the desktop PDF book file and open it in Colorsync utility and there is some sort of drop down filter menu that allows manipulation of the file including a reduction in file size. Save as another file name so as not write over the original, and you have a reduced copy.
I know little, but I try to remember what I read. These are good tips. This board is full of them and the people who populate these discussions are very knowledgeable. I just try to pass on what I find.

  • Change Page layout for Movies

The movie page will not allow me to change the layout. I want to increase the space to add multiple videos on one page. The video is cut off below the default video. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Open up the Inspector Page tab. Increase the value for "Content Height" to set the length of your page. Make sure to give your page enough length to let all of your page elements show. Otherwise they will get cut off like your movie.

  • Centrally storing objects/page layouts for use in Indesign CS6

    Hi all,
We create credential docs to send out to potential clients. We have done work in different sectors (e.g. health, sports, charities, etc) so we tailor these creds docs so they are appropriate to the client. We currently have a process where we would open up an old indd file, copy whatever pages we want, and paste them into the new indd doc.
This process presents several issues. The pages start to vary between the different cred docs (margins, grids, styles, etc) as time goes on. Digging through creds docs to find a page for a particular project is time consuming. Sometimes a new page is created because the old page wasn't found (or we forgot we already had one) which adds to the variation of pages.
I've gone down the library route, creating libraries for the different sectors and storing content within there. This has been good so far, as we can quickly find pages we want and place them. And we can quickly place new pages into the library, or update any old ones with a simple click.
The issue is that these libraries store absolute links, and we store our data in a Dropbox share which has different absolute path on each computer based on the username (Mac HD\users\"username"\Dropbox).
My question is, does anyone have a better solution to centrally store indd pages so they can be used from any Dropbox share?

Hi guys, thanks for your prompt replies. I've been reading about snippets (and I read your article too, Bob, it's a very good read). My ultimate question is if I create a snippet with a link to an image stored on Dropbox from Computer A, will Computer B be able to use that snippet without having to relink the image.
e.g. I create a snippet, saved in "Computer A \ Dropbox \ Snippets" containing a link to an image stored in "Computer A \ Dropbox \ Snippets \ images". Will Computer B be able to use that snippet stored in "Computer B \ Dropbox \ Snippets" without having to relink the image?

  • How do you change the page layout for number

When I print a spreadsheet I have created in numbers the header & footers are quite large. Is there a way to change the header & footer size?

Yes, you can change the position. Do it in Master Layouts. Select the page number - a red box appears around it - select: left, center, or right justification. That will move it within the box. To move the box on the page, just drag the box to where you want it. - Fabe

  • Page layout for smartforms

    dear all,
I have made 2 smartforms for checmical and mechanical print.one has to be printed in landscape and the other has to be printed in potrait format. The problem is the user wants the smartforms to be called from the same program and hence everytime he has to set the printer settings.
    for exapmle
mechanical smartform is in landscape format and if the printer settings is not changed to landscape then the smartform wont get printed in landscape format, its getting printed in potrait format only and half of the data is cut off.
Please tell whether any option is there so that I can change the printer setting from landscape to potrait in the runtime only based on the layout of the smartform.

    Hello,
To my knowledge at runtime we cannot change printer settings.U have to desgin 2 form for each and set printer settings accordingly.
