"Page name" interfering with web address...

my website is www.brianjarmstrong.com. When I enter my page name as brianjarmstrong in the Site Publishing Settings, my welcome page becomes www.brianjarmstrong.com/brianjarmstrong/welcome.html
Is there a way I can publish the site without the extra brianjarmstrong? How do I get it to just be www.brianjarmstrong.com/welcome.html?

PS, I remember when I would upload it to my FTP manually, I would just not include that "brianjarmstrong" directory, but now that iweb does it automatically... I'm not sure how to avoid this.

Where are you hosting your site and do you have your site named "brianjarmstrong" in iWeb? Are you using CNAME forwarding.
CNAME will give you: example.com/SiteName/page1.html
So you can change the site name in iWeb to something to identify the site but not "brianjarmstrong". You could name it AudioEngineer-Photographer to get in the URL window:
www.brianjarmstrong.com/AudioEngineer-Photographer/welcome.html
If you enable domain name masking/cloaking (not sure if it works with CNAME the same as standard forwarding) you can get www.brianjarmstrong.com in the URL window of every page. The downside to that is visitors can only bookmark the site's first page. My tutorial site is set up that way thru GoDaddy, toadstutorials.info.

TROUBLE WITH WEB ADDRESS IN SAFARI

I have previously posted this topic under Safari directly but have received no response. I am having some difficulty with my desktop G5 Quad in respect to logging on to a particular web address that I have been using for years now. When I try to log on, I am receiving a message that says, "Safari cannot locate the server".
But if I go downstairs in our kitchen on our laptop Macbook, I have no trouble whatsoever in logging on to this address.
Can someone please tell me why I would be having this problem on my main desktop computer? It seems I do not have any trouble with any other web address on either computer except for this one.

Most likely caused by a corrupt cookie.
Delete all cookies for that website, and also delete your bookmark for it. Close Safari.
Re-open Safari and type in the URL for that site. This will create a fresh cookie.

Using own domain name , duplication of web address HELP !!

Hi all,
Although this is not a big problem it is quite annoying. I am currently building website within Iweb 09. I have managed to set up my own domain name with no problems at all. The only thing is I get a duplication of my website name on the browser here it is :
*http://www.topviewweddings.co.uk/topviewweddings/Home.html*
I would ideally like to just have *http://www.topviewweddings.co.uk*
Anyone have any ideas on how to do this ??

One way would be to use standard domain name forwarding (not CNAME) and enable masking. That would put http://www.topviewweddings.co.uk in the URL window of ALL your pages. The downside to that is visitors can only bookmark your first page which may or may not be a problem. My tutorial site, http://toadstutorials.info , is set up that way.

I bought my E70 yesterday and after working on it without any problems tonight I was trying to open a web page using the browser, and the browser showed me the message above.
It shows the same exact message for *all* pages I try to visit.
The behavior started after I had shut the phone off and then turned it back on.
I'm assuming the browser has crashed, but I don't know how to "reset it." I did already delete the cache and cookies, without any effect.
Or maybe some problem with the phone;s WiFi?
I'm new to the E70, so I can't say much about OS version or the like. I've searched around a bit on this forum, and googled, without success.
Does anyone know how I can get my browser back?
BTW: I connect using the WiFi which I'm sure that is working - tested it on my Laptop.

For the people who are having the same problem and looking for a solution, the only way I found to get around this was to backup the phone, format it, and restore your stuff back.

Try this.
Type in the address bar about:config.
Accept the warning.
In the page that appears, in the Filter box, type network.http.max-connections. Change the value to 32 (which is probably set to 256 in your case).
Close that page. Restart the browser.

RSS Feed + Page name

I've added a blog entry and uploaded the site to the server and found that page names have been changed - from "domain/web folder name/page name" to "domain/page name" - but the blog address for the RSS feed remained as the long version (with web folder name included). So, My blog no longer works - the feed gives a cached blog not updated. My web page shows the blog without a feed button.
The blog address used to be:
http://raincoastimages.ca/raincoastimagesphotography/Blog/Blog.html
but has now been changed to:
http://raincoastimages.ca/Blog/Blog.html
The RSS feed has remained the long version. Any ideas how I can fix this?

iWeb apparently names pages with the web folder it creates included in the address. My folder is names after the title of the iWeb site "Raincoast Images Photograhy" so hence url are given in a long form, as noted in the first post. Somehow, when uploading in the usual way these names (urls) have been truncated, but not the RSS feed.
Personally it does not matter to me how pages are named. What I need to know is how I can fix an error that has arisen for no apparent reason.
I do not use .Mac, and have had no problems for the last two years, until yesterday.

I just upgraded to Windows 7 and with it I got the latest Firefox. There is nothing like learning 2 things at one time. On my old XP and 3.? all I have to do was drag and drop a web address into a link toolbar. Saving all my frequent visited or just sights I want quick access to, to a toolbar quick button. I have been playing with this for days and decided to try this Forum. I did find the Bookmark toolbar, but cant seem to figure out what is if for or if you can drop into it. When I right click it and Customize, it shows me add on buttons, but nothing to do with web addresses or alike...
Bottom line; I want to be able to drag and drop a web address into a toolbar for recall latter and be able to edit the address with a right click at a latter date in necessary...

You can drag and drop the favicon also known as the [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Site+Identity+Button site identity button], at the left hand edge of the location bar onto a toolbar to bookmark the site.

New page names- file confusion?

Hi, I'm reorganising my site and would like to change some page names in iWeb. Is this OK, or will it mean that all the files on that page will not be 'found' any more since they have the original name ?

Only if you're using a Text Based Navbar and not the standard navbar.
With the standard navbar the page name is what appears in the navbar. To change what's in the navbar you have to change the page name. With a text based navbar you can put any name in the text box navbar you want and point it to the existing page your want.

IWeb adds site name to my server address

Would prefer to use iWeb on our web server, but every time we publish, iWeb adds the site name to the end of the server address (ie: address is www.xyz.org and iWeb publishes to www.xyz.org/xyz ). The result is always a 404 error. Is there a way to make iWeb not add the site name onto the web address. Any help would be appreciated.

The url to a web site on a server is http://www.serveraddress.com/site_name/page_name.html. So your server address is xyz.org which makes the url http://www.xyz.org/site_name/page_name.html
You should be able to reach your site via just www.xyz.org if the site folder and it's accompanying index.html is loaded properly to the root folder on the server.
If you don't want to see the site name in the URL you need to do the following:
1 - publish the site to a folder on your hard drive.
2 - use an FTP client like Cyberduck to upload just the contents of the site folder to the root directory of your server.
This will give you http://www.xyz.org/page_name.html when you visit the site.
What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?

In version 3.6 I can not open a website link from original page, I keep getting a new window that is blank and asking me to put in a web address. What has changed with the new version?

When on a page if I click on a web link I get a new window that is blank and asks me enter a web address. This started happening with the new 3.6 version. It seems to have something to do with what I choose for the location in my privacy settings as the window changes with each setting but I still cannot get to the new site. Any ideas? I have no problem with this in IE and I have to keep opening IE when I encounter the problem on Firefox which is annoying.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

The address bar and all the command & tool bars disappear from my web page as soon as I log on. The leaves me with no way to enter a web address or navagate.

When I attempt to use Firefox, the address bar and all the command & tool bars disappear from view as soon as I start the program. I can see the scrolling our of view at the top of my screen. This leaves me with no way to enter a web address, navigate or even exit the program.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).<br />
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.

* If you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up
