Page Numbering HELP!

I added page numbers to my document throught the maaster page. However, the page numbers do not show on pages with a background.
How do I make them visible? How do i make them the top layer?

Check this workaround given by Peter Spier a while ago. But still good:

Add second layer and put the numbers on that. Master objects are behind document page objects on the same layer, but master objects on a higher layer are in front of ALL objects on lower layers.

  • Urgent page numbering help

    Hi!
While I've been able to create separate sections for my document & number them separately (title page through executive summary is one section, Introduction through conclusions a separate section), I can't make the numbering for the sections different.
Meaning, currently Title page has no number, 1st page - Exec summary are pages 1-4 and Introduction - Conclusions are pages 1-28.
I would like Title page to be without a number (as it is)
Exec summary through page 4 need to be numbered i, ii, iii etc.,
Introduction through Conclusions need to be 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.,
Every time I try to change the type of numbering I'm using (i,ii or 1,2,3) the entire document changes rather than just the section. So I end up with two sections numbered separately, using the SAME numbering type! Hope this has made sense!
This report is due this afternoon and I am incredibly frustrated! Quick help would be greatly appreciated!

Well! Thanks for keeping it EASY for me, Jerry !
I think this actually just might work. I'm going to go try it. Thank you very much !
I'm thinking there must be a way to do this in Pages. Must eventually read up on it. Now is not the time though!
    Thanks again!

  • I need to start the page numbers over for a new section in a document (i.e. first six pages are roman numerals, next 70 need to be in arabic numerals), but for some reason, the automatic page numbering has started over at number 3 instead of 1. Help!!

If anyone has any idea why it's doing this, or what I can do to fix it, please help!

No idea why it's doing this.
You should be able to fix it by using Insert > Page Number, rather than 'Automatic Page Numbering.'
Set Page Numbers in your second section to "Start at:" 1

  • Help please with Page Numbers & Facing Pages in Book Layout

I am having some dramas with my book project which is 168 pages including cover.  I have created 22 different documents for the chapters and other pages.  I had everything in a book and have been able to create a PDF, but then I needed to remove the cover so it can be printed separately and to change the page numbering to start at 1 after the contents page.
When I added numbers after the Contents page, it pushed all the pages out of order - ie what was previously sitting on the left was now sitting on the right etc.
Removing the cover also impacted on individual spreads.
    Since then I have:
    - Updated my program to resolve an issue where Indesign kept shutting down when I tried to change page numbers.
    - Recreated the book twice, but find the spreads are all out of whack as I add them - doesn't appear to be auto paginating.
    - Called Adobe and got given tutorials that have not helped me resolve the issue because I have followed the tutorials but it hasn't resolved the issues I am having.
Is there a way that you can stop autopagination and tell the pages which side they need to be on?  I currently have one chapter finishing on an even number of pages and the next starting on an odd, even though there are an even number of pages in that chapter, which is bizarre?  How do I fix this please?
I would sincerely appreciate anyone who can tell me how to fix this.  I have read and watched so many tutorials showing how to set it up but there doesn't appear to be any that help with trouble shooting when you have followed the process but something bizarre happens.
Is there a way that you can dictate the sides that the pages should be on?  Can you turn off the auto pagination anywhere?  This is an urgent request.
    Thanks,
    Hayley
PS  I started in CS6 and am now using CC.

    A few things to consider:
Not all books are the same, but many begin on page one, which is a right page, and as it follows, all odd pages will be on the right with even pages on the left. If your book had the cover as part of the book, I wonder if that meant that your first page was on the left?
Books leaves hold two pages (front and back), and therefore book page counts need to be divisible by two. You say your book is 168 pages including the cover, which you moved to another document, leaving 167 book pages. If you were counting the back page, that might make for a 166 page book, which would be OK, but depending on how it will be printed, the page count may need to be divisible by 4, 8, 16, or higher, and the printer may need to add blank pages to get to the correct page count. Can you tell us how your book will be produced?
Many people like to keep  their chapters in even-numbered page count, so that new chapters may start on the right. This sometimes requires you to have a blank left-sided page at the end of some chapters. This blank page is sometimes labeled "This page intentionally left blank" or some such wording (so as to let the reader know there wasn't a misprint), but isn't strictly necessary. Sometimes an ornament in the center of the page will do the same job.
Do you think these are things you would like to have in your book, or are you opposed to them for any reason? The answers may narrow the advise you get from the forum users.

  • Please help with page numbering!

Right, so I'm writing my thesis and need to insert different types of page numbering (note: I'm using Pages '09 4.3)
I've split the document up by inserting sections:
Section 1: Glossary of Abbreviations, List of Figures. These must be numbered, but on a Roman numeral system. This section begins on page 4, but page 4 should actually read page 'i', page 5 'ii', page 6 'iii', and so on.
Section 2: Main body of text. This must also be numbered, but using Arabic numbers. This section begins on Page 8, but I want page 8 to read page '1', if you see what I mean.
My problem: while I've succeeded in inserting  Arabic numbering at Section 2, I cannot do the same for Section 1. Each time I try to insert the Roman numerals using 'Insert > Auto Page Numbers...' it just numbers the WHOLE document that way! I can't manually type in the numeral at the footer of each page either, because when you change one footer it changes all the footers within a section!
I've gone on every forum, tried everything I've read, but it STILL WON'T cooperate. This should be the easiest thing in the world but I can't seem to do it! I'm going insane. I beg you, if I can't solve this soon I'll overheat and throw this stupid computer out of the window. Please, PLEASE help!

I tidied all that up and added it to the iWorkTipsnTricks forum.

  • My InDesign document has two page 1s and I can't get the page numbers to work.  Help!

My InDesign document has two page 1s and I can't get the page numbers to work.  Help!  How do I fix this?

Do you mean the first section is starting at page one?
And the second one now is starting at page two?
So I would ask why you would need sections at all?
Did you set the controls for Automatic Page Numbering?
If you select the particular page where section two is starting in the Pages Panel, you could untick the Start Section option in the numbering and section dialog. That would remove the section. You cannot do that with the very first section, but you should set the first section to Automatic Page Numbering if you ever want to use your document with an inDesign book file.

  • In iPhoto '11 I cannot change the book settings. For example, adding page numbers. There is no "option" button as is suggested by the help item.

In iPhoto '11 I cannot change the book settings. For example, adding page numbers. There is no "option" button as is suggested by the help item. How can I change to book settings?

The "options" button should appear at the bottom of the iPhoto window, when you view your book, then the Book Settings Button should be available and you can activate page numbers.
But remember, that the settings available will depend on the Book Theme you selected. The above shows the settings for one of the "Travel" themes. In a Picture Book Theme, e.g. you cannot add page numbers.
What theme and book size are you using?

  • Help!!!! Urgent Framemaker page numbering problem

    Hi there,
I have to make a last minute update to this old project that we have in Framemaker. I've never really used it before so I'm clueless!!
Problem is I have a book, it consists of several chapters, each of which seems to have a .fm extension.
I need to build a pdf and for the page numbers in it to flow from chapter to chapter. Problem I'm having right now is that chapter 1 ends on page 10 and chapter 2 begins on page 13!
This wouldn't be so bad if it even inserted a couple of blank pages in the pdf, but it doesn't so the number goes out of synch!
In the main page area where it lists all the .fm files, I've right-clicked on chapter 2, selected Numbering and selected Continue Numbering from Previous File in Book, then pressed Set. This doesn't make a different though!!
Also chapter 2 ends on page 18 and chapter 3 begins on page 21 so something isn't right.
I need to get this document finished today, if anybody could pls help it would be really really appreciated!

OK, first the theory: The book file is critical. It is a container that holds and controls the formatting of the chapter files.
If you open the component files outside the book, they'll contain page number that may be inaccurate because you're working outside the book environment.
So first, confirm the problem: In the book file, click the update icon. You'll have a dialog bos that asks if you want to regenerate the TOC and any other generated files. Click yes.
THEN, open the chapter file(s) to check the page numbering. I suspect that either the chapters have an intervening into page OR they have pagination set to open on a right side page and a blank page or two is being generated to force that -- and either problem can make the numbering appear as you've described it.
Check back in at this point and let us know what it looks like....
    Cheers,
    Art

  • I can't remove keynote, pages, numbers, or any microsoft applications from my dock. Please Help!

I have been trying to clean up my dock, but i can't remove certain items from my dock. I can't remove keynote, pages, numbers, or any microsoft applications. When I was trying to delete the apps they were not running or in use. I tried dragging the icons to the trash bin and I also tried dragging the icons away from the dock, but they just kee bouncing back to the dock. Please help!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Try deleting the Dock settings file. Open Finder, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.dock.plist", and finally, open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    killall Dock
This will restore Dock to factory settings, so iWork applications and Microsoft apps will be deleted from Dock

  • P S 11 Manual?  printed 407 pages,  no page numbers, no index, no help.?

P S 11 Manual????  Printed 407 pages;    no page numbers, no index, no help? Why

Sorry, but I don't know anything to suggest, unless you know someone who has a copy of acrobat pro or something like that, and then you'd still need to use the pdf to search for topics. I think PSE 2 or 3 was the last version to come with a real manual.
There are a great many video tutorials on the web and a large number of printed books you can purchase about PSE, including one from adobe.

  • Yesterday taking consierable time, effort and money I upgraded Pages, Numbers and Keynote and now I can't get "SAVE AS" in pages!  Help!  What to do?

Yesterday, having taken considerable time, effort and money I upgraded Pages, Numbers and Keynote.  All because I have just bought an iPad and couldn't transfer files unless I got a newer version of Pages!
Now I can't get "Save As" in Pages.  It will only show "Save a Version".
Haven't a clue what has happened and would like to get Save as - as in the past.
    Help!  What to do?

I don't think you lose anything going from Lion to Mountain Lion. Lion just seems "unfinished" to me. I don't have Lion on any Mac. I do have one running Snow Leopard & a couple of PPC Macs running Tiger.
The only way to upgrade to Mountain Lion is to purchase it in the Mac App Store.

  • Page Numbering Columns - HELP

Is there a way to have Pages number columns as pages in a document. Let’s say I have a doc that is landscape, I have two columns but I want each column to be a page - if this is possible (I think I see it in the inspector)
    1. Where do you start the page #’s
    2. How do I get it to do this (no Duh)
    Thanks for any help, Rino

    Hi Rino,
There isn't any way for Pages to number columns as it does page numbering that I can find. What you saw may have been facing pages but I don't see a way to do it in one page.
A possible work-around is having your two column landscape page then manually add a table at the bottom over the footer.
This table will be one row two columns. You'll now again manually add the page numbers to this table. It will look as though your two columns have page numbering. Of course you'll need to do this for each subsequent page
Hope this helps, do let us know how this goes.
    Sincerely,
    RicD

  • Need Help With ePub Book Page Numbering

I'm not understanding how to get the page numbers set in sequential order for an ePub.
I've created a Book with 10 sections (all independent files).
But, as you can see in the attached image, the file numbers do not progress from one "section" to another. This is messing up the TOC and the ePub navigation.
    What am I doing incorrectly?

Book and Page Numbering Options were set correctly to:
    Continue from previous document
Automatically Update Page & Section Numbers
What I missed was setting Document Numbering Options to:
Start Section >> Auto Page Numbering
Document Chapter Numbering >> AutoChapter Numbering
Each of my ten Book documents were defaulting to Start Page Numbering at: 1 which was causing each document/section to begin at 1.
