Page Numbering in Pages 5.5.2!

I have created a booklet in Pages 5.5.2. I have made a footer. Inside the footer I have inserted a picture and added numbering - these both automatically run throughout the 56 page document. In OLD pages you could ask under the document inspector to make facing pages and move the numbering position on the footer to be on the outside of the 'facing pages'!! THIS is no longer an option! They seem to make pages worse EVERY time taking away the link tools etc!!!
PLEASE help me with this - I have to send the document to be printed and cannot resolve this annoying issue!

There is no facing pages, or related page numbering feature in any release of Pages v5. The workaround is to use Pages '09 v4.3, which in Apple's wisdom, has 100+ more features than Pages v5.5.2.

    Hello jacquemac,
    Your first question:
There might be a better way of achieving what you wish to do, but following these steps could help you out.
You might want to blend in Thumbnails and Invisibles either with (cmd+shift+i and cmd+alt+p) or over the View section in the Menubar.
    1. go for Documents (right end of the Toolbar) -> Section
    2. place your cursor at the very top of your second page and click "Create new Section->Starting with this page" in the side bar on your right.
(what you are actually doing next is setting the pagenumbers for each section you created. You can see your sections in the Thumbnail view.)
    3. click on your first page (the first and only page of your first section) and mark the checkbox "Hide on first page of section"
    4. click on your second page (the first page of your second section) and  "Insert page number" -> start at 1
    Your second question:
Im not quite sure i understand what exactly you want to do here. One page, two columns, each column with another page number? As far as i know this is not possible.
    greetings jl

  • Page numbers in page panel don't match current page numbers

    Hi all,
I have been working with InDesign for a decade now and never had this problem.
I created a document in InDesign CS 5.5, very simple and with consecutive pages, no sections etc.
My page numbers show up correctly on my spreads. BUT, for some reason, the numbers that are shown in the page panel, underneath the page icons, are different. The first page is named "11", followed by 12-17, then the numbers jump to 111, 112 etc. I selected all pages and chose "Numbering and Section Options", setting them all to automatic page numbering, but to no avail.
As I said, the actual page number on the page is unaffected. But this bugs me since I am afraid that the document is somehow messed up.
I am using a simple InDesign document, no book file.
Any idea why this would happen?
    Thank you so much!

Thank you - I just found the solution to my problem (after playing around some more), and it turns out to be rather simple. In Numbering & Section Options, the Section Prefix was set to "1" - this field needs to be clear. That's why InDesign would add a 1 to every number.

  • Page numbers in pages

Dear collegues. I have a 20 page document. I want to start numbering the pages but only on the third page and starting with the page number 24. Is there a way in pages to do that?
    Thanks for your help.

    Paul,
It sounds as though your third page is different from the first two in some way. The solution to your problem would be to Insert > Section Break at the bottom of the second page. On the third page, Insert the Page Number and use the Layout Inspector > Section Tab > Page Numbers > Start At: box to set the starting point for that page.

  • Page numbers in Pages program

how can i insert page numbers in devnagari font? They show up in english font although if I type in the footer it shows up in devnagari. But by doing insert page numbers it only shows up in english..

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
This forum is dedicated to the productivity application, AppleWorks. It is not a "catch-all" for how Apple computers work. Questions about Pages should be posted in the Pages ‘08 forum.
In Pages a title page can be created by placing the cursor in the body of the document then, in the layout inspector, click the Section tab & check First page is different.

  • Document page numbers in pages palette?

I just jumped from CS to CS5. I work in magazine spreads most of the time and would like the pages palette to reflect my document page numbering. All I can get it to show is 1, 2, 3, etc. with 1 starting on the LEFT page of the thumbnail spread, whereas the my document spreads always start on EVEN-numbered (left) pages. I have no trouble numbering the document itself any way I want, it's just the palette. Was not a problem in CS, it always showed my document page numbers below the thumbs. Is there a menu setting I am not finding?

Can you post a screen capture of your Pages Panel (they officially became panels instead of palettes in CS4, or maybe CS3)? Use the little camera icon on the web screen to embed it in your post.
The only things that's changed significantly about the Pages Panel/Palette is the addition of page thumbnails, so if you aren't seeing page numbers that match the numbers assigned (if you are viewing section numbering rather than absolute numbering -- a preference choice), then there is something wrong with the program. The first step with oddities like this is to Replace Your Preferences

  • Help please with Page Numbers & Facing Pages in Book Layout

I am having some dramas with my book project which is 168 pages including cover.  I have created 22 different documents for the chapters and other pages.  I had everything in a book and have been able to create a PDF, but then I needed to remove the cover so it can be printed separately and to change the page numbering to start at 1 after the contents page.
When I added numbers after the Contents page, it pushed all the pages out of order - ie what was previously sitting on the left was now sitting on the right etc.
Removing the cover also impacted on individual spreads.
    Since then I have:
    - Updated my program to resolve an issue where Indesign kept shutting down when I tried to change page numbers.
    - Recreated the book twice, but find the spreads are all out of whack as I add them - doesn't appear to be auto paginating.
    - Called Adobe and got given tutorials that have not helped me resolve the issue because I have followed the tutorials but it hasn't resolved the issues I am having.
Is there a way that you can stop autopagination and tell the pages which side they need to be on?  I currently have one chapter finishing on an even number of pages and the next starting on an odd, even though there are an even number of pages in that chapter, which is bizarre?  How do I fix this please?
I would sincerely appreciate anyone who can tell me how to fix this.  I have read and watched so many tutorials showing how to set it up but there doesn't appear to be any that help with trouble shooting when you have followed the process but something bizarre happens.
Is there a way that you can dictate the sides that the pages should be on?  Can you turn off the auto pagination anywhere?  This is an urgent request.
    Thanks,
    Hayley
PS  I started in CS6 and am now using CC.

    A few things to consider:
Not all books are the same, but many begin on page one, which is a right page, and as it follows, all odd pages will be on the right with even pages on the left. If your book had the cover as part of the book, I wonder if that meant that your first page was on the left?
Books leaves hold two pages (front and back), and therefore book page counts need to be divisible by two. You say your book is 168 pages including the cover, which you moved to another document, leaving 167 book pages. If you were counting the back page, that might make for a 166 page book, which would be OK, but depending on how it will be printed, the page count may need to be divisible by 4, 8, 16, or higher, and the printer may need to add blank pages to get to the correct page count. Can you tell us how your book will be produced?
Many people like to keep  their chapters in even-numbered page count, so that new chapters may start on the right. This sometimes requires you to have a blank left-sided page at the end of some chapters. This blank page is sometimes labeled "This page intentionally left blank" or some such wording (so as to let the reader know there wasn't a misprint), but isn't strictly necessary. Sometimes an ornament in the center of the page will do the same job.
Do you think these are things you would like to have in your book, or are you opposed to them for any reason? The answers may narrow the advise you get from the forum users.

  • Why is page numbering in Pages 5 with Mavericks so difficult?

Whatever I put in the header on page 1 did not show up on any other page whether or not I checked "Hide page 1 in section."  But, when I went to page 2, Pages treated page 2 as a separate page for numbering no matter what I did or undid.  Only when I got to the header on page 3 could I actually set up a header what worked on every page there thereafter, even though it wanted to number it as page 2.  I never had this problem before.  Headers were a snap.  Now, I have to go to Format to set up tabs to put in Part 1 as Left justified, then set up tab 3.5 to set page number.  It was never this hard before.

Obviously you are not using Mac OSX 10.7.2.
Yes, you have noticed how bad Pages 5 is at page numbering.
You have yet to notice the other 90+ features removed.
Pages '08/'09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder, use that.

  • Having trouble with page numbering in Pages

I moved a document from Word to Pages.  Now the page numbering is outside any text box, footer, table, etc., and cannot be accessed for editing.  I cannot click on it.  I tried fooling around with page number functions in Pages, and it merely adds a second set of page numbers.  I revealed the formatting and background information to no avail.  It is as if the page numbers do not exist, except that they are showing up on screen.  Has anyone ever had this problem?  How did you resolve it?

    JT,
This is a long-standing conversion issue, where Word page numbers sometimes turn into un-editable graphic objects in Pages. To get rid of them, do the following:
Arrange > Make Background Objects Selectable
Format > Advanced > Make Background Objects Selectable
Command-Drag a selection box from the margin diagonally across the page number object to select it
    Press Delete
That usually does it. If you have a multi-section document, you may have to do it more than once.

  • Easy page numbering in page layout mode??

The only thing I can figure out is completely tedious: add linked text box, reposition by dragging to bottom of the page, insert page number. Add linked text box, reposition by dragging to bottom of the page, insert page number. Add linked text box, reposition by dragging to bottom of the page, insert page number.
    Bah!
    Is this it?

    Hester,
In addition to using a Header or Footer for Page Numbers, you can Capture your page-with-text-box to be accessed from the Insert > Pages menu. To do this, make your master page and then: Format > Advanced > Capture Pages.

  • Web Journals page numbers or page names?

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to rename web journal pages from the 1,2,3 etc. to a more meaningful name e.g. portraits, oil spill, landscapes etc.? Page names make it so much easier for a viewer to navigate their way though any site.
    Mike.

No, as far as I know you cannot do this, although it's very obvious why you'd want to.
This navigation feature is weak. The page numbers don't provide useful information about what's on that page, so the user would have to memorize what is displayed on each page of the site. If you have more than a handful of pages you cannot even see how many pages there are. If you're on page 10, there's no easy way to go immediately back to page 1 since only a subset of the page numbers are visible.
One of the things I looked forward to with Aperture 3 was getting a much better Web page/journal feature with new themes, capabilities, etc. Unfortunately, they didn't improve it at all, which was very disappointing.

  • Printing Document Page Numbers in Pages '09

    Hello again my friends;
With Peter's help I got my document numbered correctly (with i,ii,iii etc in first section) and (1,2,3 etc in second section).
Now I can't seem to get them print out on each page, both sets of numbers are located in the footer of each pages respectively.
    Any suggestions?

Sounds like your printer doesn't print to the edge of the paper and you have the Footer in the non-printing area.
To test the extent of your printable area, cover the entire page with a box filled with grey and print that.
Tom solve your footer problem raise it up from the bottom of the page into the printable area.

  • How to print page numbers like 'Page 2 of 10' on an ALV report

    Hi,
I've seen a few threads regarding this, but haven't seen any code that actually works.
What I'd like to do is print page x of y (i.e. Page 2 of 10) on an ALV report once the report is printed.
Is this actually possible?  If so, what are the steps and coding required?
I greatly appreciate your help experts!
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
I think there is no better way than calculate it before doing the output. If you do not have extra-new-page, the total number of pages may be calculated as the number of lines displayed divided by lines on one page - this will depend on the lines used for top-of-page and end-of-page. Also filters and subtotals could not be used.
An other approach could be to read the current page number in end-of-list event and then scan the whole list using READ LIST and MODIFY LIST in each page top accordingly.
Because it is decades ago I printed a list last time I will never have the chance to try.
