Page Peel Transition Problem

I can't seem to manipulate this transition to work properly - Although I set it to 'peel' from one still image clip (A) to another still image clip (B), it is only revealing the very same clip (A) underneath until about a quarter of the way through the transition when it jumps to image (B) - not at all like turning the page of a book.
I am a new user, but I've tried changing every variable in the transition settings with no success. Is there something I'm missing?

Sounds as though you don't have enough Media Handles to allow the transition to work.
Search this forum for Handles or media Handles, there's plenty of info. The manual will explain it as well.

How to de-interlace Page Peel transition?

I've used the FCE 4 Page Peel transition a number of times in a sequence I've been working on. When I was ready to export to a self-contained QuickTime Movie, I selected the entire NTSC anamorphic sequence and applied the De-interlace filter (the original video came from an SD camcorder recording in 16:9 format). After exporting the QuickTime movie and play it in the QuickTime Player, each Page Peel transition exhibits pretty severe interlacing artifacts (i.e., the edge of the peel has an obvious “comb” appearance instead of a sharp edge.
Is there any simple way to fix that? I tried going back and applying the De-interlace filter to each Page Peel transition, but all the Video Effects->Video filters where usually disabled (I did figure out how to make them enabled by a series of actions), but that didn't seem to affect the transitions.

No, I haven't displayed it on a TV CRT. This project will be burned on a DVD, and some will watch it on a computer, while others will watch on DVD players attached to TVs.
I've seen the interlacing artifacts on my Mac when I play back QuickTime movies from FCE that weren't de-interlaced before exporting: comb-like fringes along edges of moving objects. De-interlacing removes that in the moving images. I'm just trying to figure out how to get it out of the Page-Peel transitions, if possible.
I guess it brings up an interesting question. For video that will be played on both computers and TVs, is it better to leave interlacing alone, or to de-interlace. What looks worse: interlaced video on a computer display, or de-interlaced video on a standard (non-progressive) TV? I don't have much experience with the finer points of interlacing yet, so I'd be interested in what others on this forum think about this.

Page Peel Transition

Hi, all.
I'm trying to use a page peel transition between two clips, but it's not working what I would consider correctly. These two clips ARE SNAPPED END-TO-END, so there's no gap between them and no blank frame in either one.
However, when I add the page peel to the end of the first clip, the clip peels off revealing a BLACK background. Once the transition is finished, the first frame of the 2nd clip appears.
What I WANT to happen is for the page peel of the first clip to reveal the beginning of the 2nd clip below instead of just a black/empty frame.
Is there some setting to make this work right? Putting the transition at the beginning of the 2nd clip didn't do it either. That just makes the black frame appear before the 2nd clip starts. It looks even weirder actually.
Anyhow, I'd appreciate your help. Transitions overall in FCE just aren't working intuitively for me. It's rare that I want to transition between a clip and, essentially, nothing (or a matte or whatever). I almost always want to transition BETWEEN TWO CLIPS, but FCE doesn't appear to do that.

With your added explanation it makes sense. As I suspected, this is a paradigm issue. I didn't realize one had to move the in & out points in order to "make" handles. One does not need to change in & out points when adding transitions to the beginning or end of a single clip, so this inconsistency threw me for a loop.
I'm not sure why the rules are different for one clip versus two, but based on how much this confuses people Apple should really make a HUGE point of explaining this in the online help or something. Especially since manually moving in & out points to allow transitions is done differently in most other software, including iMovie. Just my $0.02.
Given how this works, it would make a lot of sense to be able to arbitrarily extend a clip within FCE by holding the last frame. But I don't see how to do that off-hand. The page you reference mentions a "Ripple" tool, but is that what a ripple tool does? That part of the web page didn't make sense to me, but probably because I'm unfamiliar with that paradigm as well.

"Page peel" transition not working...

I have overlaid a graphic onto my timeline (oops, I mean storyline) and I want it, and only it, "lay" onto the image in a Page peel manner. The trouble is though that the entire screen image is being overlaid as opposed to just the graphic. Anyone have any idea how I can get the transition to just affect the graphic and not the entire screen?

Perhaps you need to clarifywhat your problem is. Maybe post some screenshots because it works perfectly for me.
Make sure you have the Direction popup set correctly.

Center page and transition problems

1. Whenever I run my project it always is to the top left of the page in firefox and IE. I want it top centered.
When I look at tutorials online their project is automatically top centered. How do I get that?
2. When doing transitions I want some images to side to the right of the page so it is not visable anymore. When I run it, it is off the page but it is now sitting within the background. To make it disappear complety I've have to fade it out just as it reaches the edge of the artboard but I don't think you should have the do this to get the trasition effect needed. Once the image is off the art board isn't it supposed to disapear?
Any help to fix both of these problems to greatly help.

I figured it out. I unchecked have artboard be resizable and it fixed everthing.

Page Peel

I want to use the Page Peel transition between two Text generated clips.
I would like to set the background color for the Text Generator to something other than black to achieve the right Page Peel effect.
How is this done?

Create a color matte or other image that you want to use as the backing. Drag it into the Well in Page Peel filter controls. That's the little depressed icon with sprocket holes on the sides.

Page peel problem

Hi All,
I'm trying to use page peel to transition between 2 scenes in fcp. The problem I have is that when the upper page peels away, it's still displaying its' contents on the lower page. Then, when the peak of the transition is reached , the upper page then displays the contents of the lower page.
Is there a way to do the peel, where the upper page displays the contents of the out-going clip and the lower page displays the contents of the in-coming clip?

I can't duplicate your problem. You are adding the page peel to the end of the outgoing clip, correct?
What you could try as a work around is to move the outgoing clip to a higher track (hold shift while dragging to lock movement to vertical) add the transition and drag the incoming clip's starting point underneath the transition.

How do I create a "page peel" effect?

is there an effect or 3rd party filter that allows me to lift just the corner of video to reveal something beneath, and then to bring the corner back down. I've seen this in Johnson Wax spots. Corner lifts to reveal their logo. Don't need a full transition like "page peel" . Thanks for all help

You could use the 'Curl' filter...Effects/Video Filters/Perspective/Curl.
Tweak the settings and keyframe the movement to taste.

I have no idea what can be wrong here, been doing some research and read something about pagel peel being under flash file due to lack of transparancy, but I gave up, headache is getting stronger.

I am running Snow Leopard. Transferring the same texts to TextEdit has no problems, so this is a Pages problem, I think. Corruption of Times New Roman and Arial fonts, I suspect, but where? and what do I do about it? I just need to be pointed to a source of advice, I think.

Pages 09 installation problem on Marvericks

I am trying to get Pages 09 to work on a new Mac Pro running OS X 10.9.2
The new Mac Pro has a clean install (no migration from the old machine) and I am installing iWorks from the original DVD and then updating to version 4.3 (1048) using the installer from Apple's support site. Restarted the machine after the install before launching Pages.
My problems:
1. When I try to open a document using File -> Open File... (from within Pages 09) and select a pages document that was copied from my old machine (and never opened in Pages 5) I get only an error dialog with the message "The document "document_name.pages" couldn't be opened." without any indication what might be wrong. I checked the fonts and trashed the preferences and those are not the culprits.
2. I cannot even create a new document in Pages 09. After File -> New I am presented with an empty template chooser (the whole area is completely black). Clicking on the Choose button anyway results in Pages hanging and I have to force quit the app.
This is highly frustrating because I have some important documents that get mangled quite badly when I open (a copy of) them in Pages 5. I really would like to get this working on the new Mac Pro.
I would highly appreciate if anyone had a similar experience and found a solution (or any other ideas I should try).

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions. You need to select the file and right click > Open with or open the documents from within the correct App.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Is there a page curl transition for iBooks Author?

Does anyone know why there isn't a page curl transition for books created in iBooks Author? There should also be a flipboard transition available as well.

It seems the Apple Pages app exports to the ePub format. This is what some may be looking for.
If one wishes to proof on Touch or iPhone, or if one wants the page curl effect, look into Pages and iTunes. Here is the link I found.

To be clear, this is a step back from what iBooks Author provides overall. But, in my case, it's what the kids wanted.

Bug in Page Turn transition?

I copied and burned a photo slideshow with music from iPhoto. There were 237 pics. I used random transitions. Ken Burns Effects were off. Everything looks great except that just prior to the page turn transition, the picture fades for a half second or so just before the transition starts. It only happens on this particular transition. Is this normal?

Creating a Single Page Peel Interactive Online Brochure

I'm new to InDesign CS4. Could someone help me in explaining how I can create a single turning page peel interactive online book. I have the job done in InDesign using spread pages format.... and I'm looking to try and output to SWF format as single pages (not spreads). How do insert single pages as I keep getting spreads outputted to SWF format so that a single page displays online and peels to the next page.
Any suggestions.

Web Part Page check in problem

I created a simple web part page that contains a web page viewer web part. I filled out all available fields during creation. It was stored in the default Shared Documents folder. I can link to the web part page with no problems. However, others can't because it is check out to me. When I try to check it in, I get the "You must fill out all required properties before checking in this document" error. When I click "Edit Properties", everything is filled out. I noticed that if I click "View Properties", a "Title" field is visible. How can I fill this out??? It wasn't available during creation and I have no idea how to fill it out because it doesn't show up after clicking "Edit Properties. This seems really buggy.

I currently have this problem running wss3.0 in a portal I have created. Two existing document libraries contain web part pages which do not require check in/check out. However in the last day or two, every new page created is automatically checked out to myself, but I cannot check the item back in. I have the following show up:
"You must fill out all required properties before checking in this document."
I have followed the procedures above to add the web part as an extra content type to the list, and hiding the title column so its not needed, but i still receive this error message. It only seems to be happening on this particular portal, and not others. The fact exisitng pages in the document library do not require items to be checked out makes it very frustrating trying to resolve. Ive searched TechNet but cant find any more details. I've even tried to force check in using Sharepoint Designer but this also does not work.
Does anyone have any ideas? Every new document library i create contains checked out items for this portal now, so others cannot view.
