Page Setup dialog can't be acknowledged

Apparently I am not able to set the paper size (US letter, A4..) from the Page Setup dialog in my main admin account after updating to 10.5.x (in any application using the standard dialog, e.g TextEdit)
I can change all values, click the "?" to get the help, but the "OK" button simple doesn't trigger any action. I get a short colour change both on "enter" and on clicking the button (indicating the the button was clicked), but the window stays open. Only the "Cancel" button closes it.
I tried to login into a second account on my Mac. There the dialog works fine. So I would guess it's a broken file/permission issue in my library. I tried to find the problematic preference file, but failed. Could someone point me in a good direction ?
Thanks.... Martin

I have had the same problem on a brand new Mac Mini, with a pre-installed system 10.5. I could print OK so long as I didn't try and change page setup.
I actually discovered it when I started to install Boot Camp: the first thing it tells you to do is to print the instructions and when you click on that there´s a page setup dialogue. I could cancel it, or change the page percentage size, which produced weird numbers as described above and then freezes so I had to use "force quit". So that was the end of that idea, although I´ve since downloaded a pdf from Apple support.)
I also tried in Firefox, TextEdit, MSWord (my own copy, transferred via Migration Assistant from the G4), Preview, all wwith the same result.
I thought it had something to do with the system updates that immediately turned up when I started using the machine 3 days ago, so I have just done an archive and install, with no improvement. I´ve also tried the format-change trick described above, with no luck.
There is one thing that has worked though:
When I started using the machine it set me up an admin ID. When I migrated my previous stuff and settings from the G4 I took my ID from there, also with admin privileges. I was logged in with the latter when I discovered the page setup problem. I have just switched IDs, logged in with the one that´s "native" to the new machine -- and the page setup works just fine. Maybe it´s something to do with different permission settings for the 2 IDs, somewhere deep in one of the libraries, because after all page setup is part of the System, not a particular program or printer.
Does anyone from Apple read these posts. Is there someone somewhere out there who can explain what´s going on?
Good luck to everyone else with this problem
Naomi

  • How can I use metric units in Page Setup dialog box?

When I go to my Page Setup dialog box, in Margins tabs, I see that I can specify the margins in inches. However, in my friends PCs, I have seen Page Setup dialog boxes that use millimeters for handling margins.
How can I make my version of Firefox to use millimeters instead of inches? Using this obscure unit is inconvenient for me. I prefer to use the internationally-accepted metric unit.

I can't find documentation about the settings, so you'll need to experiment a bit. I hope you're using A4 paper size instead if US- Letter, because I suspect that you will find out that the length of the paper won't be able to be set to Letter if you use the metric size unit setting.
Type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and hit Enter. <br />
''If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.''
    Pref name = print.printer_''printer_name''.print_paper_size_unit <br />

  • Can I remove Page setup Dialog CRViewer?

When I click print button on CRViewer, if the report was set custom paper  then Page setup Dialog has shown. Can I remove it?
I use Java Swing and CR 2008

    Thank you for answer.
In this case, if the report file (.rpt) set as other paper size except A4. The Page setup dialog show before print dialog.
Why A4 dose not have page setup dialog and how can I do with custom paper size print without page setup dialog like A4?

  • How can use Print and Page Setup Dialogs with multiple monitors?

It seems the designers of the printing API forgot to include multiple monitor support.
    According to the API, a way to popup a print dialog is done via this manner;
    1) PrinterJob.getPrinterJob().printDialog()
    or
    2)PrinterJob.getPrinterJob().printDialog(PrintRequestAttributeSet atts)
Option (1) brings up the native print dialog and hangs the event thread (another problem, for later i guess) and (2) brings up the Swing dialog which at least doesn't hang the event thread. And while somewhat limited is not a bad print dialog.
The problem is that there is no way to pass a GraphicsConfiguration object, so that the print dialog can know where to popup (what monitor).
So looking around, we have this newer 1.4 method
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/api/javax/print/ServiceUI.html
    public static PrintService printDialog(GraphicsConfiguration gc,
    int x,
    int y,
    PrintService[] services,
    PrintService defaultService,
    DocFlavor flavor,
    PrintRequestAttributeSet attributes) throws HeadlessException
So now this method has a way to pass a graphicsconfiguration, so it should know what monitor to create the dialog in.
But this method is such a mess to setup. When I use it, it lists the printers but doesn't select the user's default printer.
But more problematecally is that there is no PAGE SETUP dialog equivalent to this method! So I would have a print dialog that pops up in the right place, but page setup on default monitor! ARGH!!!
The code for ServiceUI has a pageDialog() method but it's commented out for "future release". What a mess.
Is there any way to solve this? To have pageDialog and printDialog on a given monitor?

  • Page Setup dialog doesn't work

    Hi everyone
My generic Page Setup dialog box as e.g. used for Word etc. doesn't work:
In the Page Setup dialog, the "Setting" menu doesn't work at all, i.e. I can see the dropdown but it doesn't accept my changes (it's fixed on "Page Settings"). All other menus or choices are accepted but then the "OK" button doesn't work; it just flickers briefly and then goes back to blue. The "Cancel" button makes all contents of the dialog box disappear except for the frame and the buttons. Either way force quitting and relaunching the application is the only way to continue working in the application.
What could be the issue here?
A few specs on my hardware, printer and system:
    - MacBook Pro (brand new)
    - OS X 10.5.5
    - Printers: hp LaserJet 4200 (main printer), iP5200R, OKI B6200, Lexmark E321. All these printers I used without problems with my old PowerBook G4.
The problem occurs with all applications using this generic Page Setup dialog, such as Word, Grab etc. In Excel e.g. all these functions work (it uses a different kind of dialog box for the page setup).
The problem could possibly have started to occur when the Lexmark printer could not be installed automatically so I assigned it another Lexmark driver, which seemed to work. But I'm not sure whether those two problems occurred at the same time.
    What I tried already:
    - uninstall and reinstall all printers in the Print & Fax part of the System Preferences. I uninstalled all printers and (without restart) reinstalled the hp printer only. The problem was still there, even upon restart.
    - reinstall Word (first I thought it was a Word problem)
    Any ideas??

    Hi,
Try to increase the size of repeating frame, as I follow this strategy in my report find the outermost repeating frame and increase its size to whole page than increase the size of your required repeating frame if you want to break page on this group, no need to set max record and page break properties(as I saw page break property never works).
    Thanks.

  • Ps CS5 "Print Page Setup" dialog will not open

Hello: I was printing via my Photoshop CS5.
I accidentally created a paper size of 0cm x 0cm and attempted to print (up to this point Photoshop and Print worked).
I now (permanently) get an error message: "There was an error opening your printer. . . "
Photoshop >File >Print. . . will not open the Print Page Setup.
Photoshop >File >Print one copy (works, but still tries to print 0cm x 0cm, the printer spits out a blank page).
Using the (Mac/Apple) app 'Preview' I deleted the paper size preset '0cm x 0cm'.
apps; Preview, Text Edit, Mail, Word, . . . all print properly (they can open the 'Print Page Setup' dialog).
I set up two other printers (now three in total) and they work with all applications (except Photoshop).
I uninstalled and re-installed Photoshop and my printers, including all their preference files.
Also, I again deleted Photoshop preference files by opening Photoshop while pressing 'Shft-Opt-Cmd'.
In 'System Preferences' >Print & Fax >Printers; I reset my computer's "Printing System".
I repaired 'Disk Permissions', Safe Boot and have also done multiple restarts.
Since only Photoshop has a problem, I believe Photoshop has (somewhere) set a preference thinking it's default paper size is 0cm x 0cm which is throwing an error and preventing the 'Print Page Setup' from opening.
    I updated Photoshop Adobe Air, Printers, . . . after re-installing.
I ran an app that clears my computer's caches.
I reinstalled (and updated) my computer's operating system (OS only, not my account and data).
    I would appreciate your help. Thank-you, M_L_R
    Mac OS: 10.6.8, Apple/MacPro 2009, 2 x 2.93GHx 8-Core processors, 16GB of Ram (DDR3 1066 MHz)

Hello: I repaired my (Print: Page Setup. . . dialog panel will not open) problem.
The fix was one of the many suggestions I researched in the 'Adobe Help'.
Unfortunately I dismissed this solution (until now).
        reference: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/error-install-printer-photoshop-cs4.html
see >Solution 7: Create a different user account and run Photoshop as that user.
Some of the (following) procedures may not be necessary, but the core solution is in there. . .
Mac OS X v10.5 or later >System Preferences >Accounts >Guest Account (sharing only) >Allow guests to log in to this computer >Automatic Login (for Administrator, still active - optional) >then log out of the (main/administrator) account >then Log in to the guest account >go to the applications folder (in the guest account) >open Photoshop >create a new simple document (example: create one text letter) >Print. . . (in this situation Print: Page Setup. . . the dialog panel opens [remember: this is the error problem in the main account]) >(do what you normally do) select your printer >set up a page size and printer options >print. Save that Photoshop project >delete that Photoshop project >Log out (of the Guest account) >Log in to your regular (main/administrator) account >the Guest account can now be deactivated (optional) >open Photoshop (in your main account) >test print a simple document >the (Print: Page Setup. . .) dialog panel now opens >(do what you normally do) select your printer >set up a page size and printer options >print. Save that Photoshop project >delete that Photoshop project >the (Print: Page Setup. . . dialog panel will not open) problem is repaired. Bye for now, M_L_R

  • CR 2008 SP2 - Slow to open Print Dialog or Page Setup Dialog (And SP3+)

When I am designing my report in CR 2008 SP2 and select either Page Setup or Print from the File menu, Crystal Reports stops responding for about 5 minutes and then the dialog box will open.  I created a blank report and did not add anything to it and this continues to happen.  The program operates at normal speed otherwise.  It is quick to startup and load reports. Any ideas on why this is so slow?
Update:  I have also tried checking the box in page setup that says No Printer but the problem persists.
Update 2:  I have updated from SP2 -> SP3 -> FP 3.1 -> FP 3.2 -> FP 3.3, and after each upgrade I tried both Print and Page Setup and it continued to exhibit the same slowness as in SP2.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Ashwini,
I just completed updating my OS and I am still experiencing the behavior.  I have applied every update available through Windows Update.  I just reformatted my computer two days ago so this is a pretty fresh install.
This problem existed before my reformat as well however.  A few months ago, Crystal did not have this slow issue when opening either Print or Page Setup dialogs.  About a month ago these two dialog boxes just became very slow.  I hoped reformatting would get rid of this issue but it persists.  I also experience this slowness on a different computer that I am using.
One idea I just tried is to shutdown the Print Spooler service in Windows.  The print dialog won't open at all but it does quickly tell me Warning: No Printer is installed on this system.  The Page Setup dialog on the other hand opens immediately, however, the Printer Options group box is totally greyed out.  This "fix" is of course no good to me since I cannot print, but perhaps it narrows down the issue to something regarding printing and/or printers?

  • Printing only blank pages and Page setup dialog box is black

When I go to firefox - Print - Print preview - Page setup OR
Firefox - Print - page setup
This dialogue box is black. I can't move or adjust it. Nothing is on that screen.
When I print a webpage (ctrl P, or Firefox, print) nothing is printing.
I tried a suggestion of resetting by following the instructions here. That did not work.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problems_printing_web_pages#Reset_printer

I just experienced this problem, and stumbled upon the cause and the fix. When I went to "File" and then "Print Preview" I was getting a "black" screen where the preview should have been. I tried the suggested fixes related to about:config printer settings and add-on's, etc... but it did not help.
Then, I looked at the "Page Set-up" when I was on the "Print Preview" page. The bottom margin (for whatever strange reason... have no clue) was set at a huge number of inches... like 43801.4 or some such. I changed it back to 0.3 inches... fixed it. Can print just fine now.
So... if all else fails: check your margin settings on page set-up.

  • Is it possible to access the page setup for the printer from a program unit

    Hi guys,
I've done a report and i need to print it with a specified superior margin. This is not the margin that we set in the report edit margin button, this is already set, the problem is the pre-defined margin located in the page setup dialog box.
My question is, is there a way (api, etc...) inside the report in which i can access this page setup and configure that margin with the values that i want, programaticaly (runtime)?
    Thanks.

  • Page Setup -- printing on tabloid pages

This simple problem in Acrobat X (10.1.0) is causing me to go back to Acrobat 9:
When I need to print to a tabloid-size page (my printer contains both sizes of paper), I cannot find "page setup" anywhere except in the print dialog box. When I click that button then the following message comes up:
"The Page Setup dialog box is provided by the operating system. To ensure that you can use the full print capabilities of Acrobat, please set all print options from the Application print dialog box. Do you want to continue?"
Oh yeah? Where IS the Application print dialog box? Isn't that what I was just in?
In Acrobat 9, if I wanted to change the printing paper size, I could go to File>Page Setup and change the size and IT WOULD REMAIN AT THAT SIZE UNTIL I CHANGED IT AGAIN.
But in Acrobat X, I must click this button EACH TIME I print to get a size other than the default [which is governed by my Mac's setting for Print/Fax (OS X, 10.5.8)].
Can someone tell me what I'm missing? It should be simple... (like it is in Acrobat 9).

After selecting Page Setup in the Print Dialog box (going through the warning), I then chose "Paper Size: Tabloid", and BEFORE I exited THAT page setup dialog box, I switched from "Settings: Page Attributes" to "Settings: Default". (Note that the "Settings: Default" attribute immediately bounced back to "Settings: Page Attributes".)
But it seems to work! The page size stays Tabloid (or A4 or whatever) until I change it again -- no matter whether I open a different document or quit Acrobat X and start it again.
It's not intuitive... and I was not having any success in finding an answer or a workaround.
So thank you so much for your response!
Hope that someone else having the same problem will find this thread.

  • Page Setup options cached somewhere?

I'm trying to help someone in my office who can no longer select "Tabloid" size paper in the Page Setup. We have a Xerox Splash G640 which gives me about fifteen different page sizes in the Page Setup window, but even after deleting her printer from the Printer Setup Utility and re-adding it, she only gets Letter and Legal size. When I started helping her, the Printer Setup Utility said the printer was using the generic postscript driver and I manually changed it to the correct driver. This did not fix the issue, so we deleted and re-added the printer. But, the incorrect page sizes are still in the Page Setup window. If you select another printer from the list in Page Setup and choose Tabloid size paper, the printer prints a Tabloid size image, but on a Letter size piece of paper... She's got Mac OS X 10.4.3 (we're giving everyone updates to 10.4.5 later this week) and although this issue is occurring in any application, we need to print from PhotoShop CS2.
It appears to me that Mac OS X is "caching" this information somewhere, but I'm not sure where. Is there a folder or file I could delete to try to clear this up?
    -Doug

Thank you for your reply. I've already replaced the PPD with the one from my computer which does show all the page sizes correctly (on my computer). It appears to be an issue deeper than simply selecting the correct PPD file in the Printer Setup Utility. Somehow, the options in the Page Setup are "stuck" and will not change even if you change the PPD file associated with that printer. You see the same page size options (the incorrect ones) whether that printer is set-up with the "generic" PostScript driver, the correct Mac OS X printer driver or manually selecting the Mac OS 9 printer driver from the Classic System Folder/Extensions/Printer Drivers. No matter which PPD we choose, the wrong page sizes persist in the Page Setup dialog.

  • "Memory Full" error when changing page setup

I'm running Crystal Reports 2008 and yesterday I had two landscape reports begin doing some weird things:
    Symptoms:
-Any change to the Page Setup dialog throws the Memory Full error (even just bringing it up and clicking ok)
-The reports were created as landscape but are displaying as portrait in Page Setup and in design view
-A handful of fields are displayed without text in them.  If I delete these fields, save, and re-open other fields will not display information (in design view)
    Troubleshooting:
-If I remove ALL fields from the reports, save, and re-open the report tells me I have an invalid printer but will allow me to change Page Setup.
*While this works, I really do not want to create the reports again from scratch.
-I have tried removing and re-installing Crystal 2008 with no luck.  However, it remembered my recently opened reports which makes me think the uninstall didn't remove everything.
-I have rebooted to make sure all memory available is free.
Does anyone have troubleshooting ideas for me?  Thanks in advance.

The link takes me to a page saying "The system cannot find the file specified. "  I also tried downloading the .exe version and got the same result.
I was able to find an SP3 download but after unpacking the files and selecting my language I get a message "Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 Update can not install because the version of the product on the system is too low."
I downloaded the SP3 file from here:  http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReports2008-VersionandDownloadinformationforSPsand+FPs
I also tried this one with the same effect:  Crystal Reports 2008 Reference [original link is broken]
I assume I downloaded an update as opposed to the "full version", is there another full version available somewhere?

  • Switching Page Setup window from Metric to Imperial

    Hi,
Might anyone know how to change the metric measurements (cm) to imperial ones (inch) -seen below the Paper Size dropdown menu- in the Page Setup dialog box of any given program?
I've tried everything I can think of, including switching keyboard layouts and Time Zone setting to make the computer think I live somewhere other than Canada, but nothing will make a US Letter sized paged show as "8.5 in x 11 in".
    Thanks!
    -Neil
    OS 10.4.3

Go to International Preferences in System Preferences and switch to the Formats panel. There is a drop down menu at the bottom called "Measurement Units" - that should do it.
    Hope this helps.

  • CS3 page setup: in print dialog box???

I am confused about the page setup in CS3. Coming from Illustr. 10 if I started a drawing in landscape mode and wanted to change into portrait mode I had to change the document and page setup boxes. Now in CS3 there is only a document setup, the page setup is in the print dialog box. Can someone share some light on this?
    Thanks.
    Ulrich

I think the process is now as it always should have been. It was crazy always having to go to two different dialog boxes just to change one setting. The thinking here is that Illustrator is now smart enough to know to automatically adjust the Page Setup settings for you -- if you rotate the document from Landscape to Portrait for example, AI should be able to figure out on its own that you want it to print that was as well.
The main point here is that Page Setup options aren't needed much anymore -- most of the options are handled directly within Illustrator's Print dialog (and can hence be saved in Print Presets, etc).

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

Go to the "File" menu, then "Print." The window that appears will have three drop-down menus at the top.
    The first is labeled "Printer",
    The second is "Presets".
The third is unlabeled but has "Copies & Pages" selected by default.
Click on that third menu and select "Firefox" near the bottom of the list.
