Page Setup Scaling under Pages 5.0.1

Yesterday, I had my first session with Pages 5.0.1 and Mavericks.
Most of my pages documents are simply tables.
I modified a pages document (and foolishly allowed the document to be updated), then tried to print at 60% scaling -- using Page Setup.
It didn't work.
Here's my results:
Printing full page with Page Setup at 100% all is OK --
Using the Pages per Sheet scales just fine --
Using Page Setup set to 60% yields this --
Note that the Page Thumbnail is OK --but the Print Preview is what will print.
I solved this by exporting the pages doc as a pdf and using Preview to scale but that shouldn't be necessary.
All of my pages docs with tables have this scaling problem.  My remaining pages docs vary -- some scale just fine, others without tables don't.
All of these pages docs scaled correctly using Pages 4.3 under Mountain Lion.
Is this a known issue that I'm not aware of or do I have a problem.
Thanks for any help!

If you went through to actually print, not just went by the Print Preview, yes this does sound like a bug.
Not unusual as there are a lot of problems with Pages 5 on top of the long list of features that Apple droppe:
http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=b8f27f929de51 34c6ef0a26835835f97&mforum=iworktipsntrick
If you upgraded from a previous version the previous version should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Test that and also test TextEdit to see if it is a Mavericks problem rather than a Pages 5 problem.
If it is you can tell Apple:

  • How do you reorder pages in documents under Pages 5

    Can't seem to move/reorder and pages in the new Pages 5.  Any ideas?

    Pages 5 has over 90 other features removed:

    Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
    Export your Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx and trash/archive Pages 5.
    Then rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

  • When scaling in page setup, 1st page prints correctly, but subsequent pages do not scale correctly/too large for the paper, parts of the text missing

    When trying to print in Firefox, and when scaling the page size in page setup, the first page prints correctly, but subsequent pages do not scale correctly and are too large for the paper, with parts of the text are being cut off at the top and right. This is not fixed by checking or un-checking the "ignore scaling/shrink to fit page width" in the print window, or by changing the scaling%.
    I am running Firefox 15.0.1, on Mac OS 10.5.8.
    The same problem happens in the print preview and if I save the print as a .pdf
    I have tried all the fixes in the how to's and others in various forums with no improvement.
    This happens every time I try to print a document scaled up or down only in Firefox.

    The 2nd page print scaling error has been an issue with Firefox on the Mac since 2011. People at Mozilla have not considered this a major problem. Try printing anything at less than 100% and you'll quickly see how every page after the first page being scaled wrong gets old real fast. The lack of a solution to this issue forced me long ago into using Safari as my primary browser. Good luck waiting until version 21 for a solution. Current release is 18.0.2.

  • Is it possible to have different tabs print with different page setups.

    I would like to use specific page setup parameters (under the File menu) for printing from a particular web site, but those parameters do not work well for printing from other web sites. I would like to be able to specify different page setup parameters for each open tab. Is this possible?

    That might be possible via a GreaseMonkey user script, by setting the '''@include''' address to a specific domain.
    http://wiki.greasespot.net/User_script
    This is an example of a script I found a few years ago to bypass a fault in Firefox when printing the Courier font.
    <pre><nowiki>// ==UserScript==
    // @name Fix Courier Bug
    // @namespace http://userscripts.org
    // @description Replaces "Courier" with "Courier New" font
    // @author Dan
    // @include *
    // ==/UserScript==
    var elementList = document.getElementsByTagName('*');
    for (var i = elementList.length - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
    var elementItem = elementList[i];
    var ff = getComputedStyle(elementItem, '').fontFamily;
    var oldff=ff;
    ff = ff.replace('Courier New', '1234567890qwertyFONT');
    ff = ff.replace('Courier', 'Courier New');
    ff = ff.replace('1234567890qwertyFONT','Courier New');
    elementItem.style.fontFamily = ff; </nowiki></pre>
    Sorry, I can't help you with writing a script.

  • Controlling page setup properties from JSF page

    Hi there :)

  • Under "Basic" in the "Printer Settings" of the Print menu, the dropdown menus for both "Page Setup: Sheet" and "Media Type" are frozen.

    Frozen selections: I'm working from my Intel iMac trying to print (from both Aperture and Photoshop CS5) to my new Epson 4900 printer. When the Print menu comes up, under the "Basic" section of the "Printer Settings" the dropdown menus for both "Page Setup" and "Media Type" won't activate. All other options and selections work fine. Just these 2 are not functioning. What's up with that??

    Here we are 15 months later and Microsoft Excel 2013 has the SAME ERROR
    If one chooses:
    Print Preview
    Page Setup
    Sheet
    Then the print area and print titles (Rows to repeat at top, columns to repeat at top)

  • Crazy Page Setup values on documents transferred to new iMac

    Folks:
    I'm helping a neighbor who had some important documents on an old CRT iMac, which we just replaced with a metal-front Intel-based iMac running 10.5.x (Great machine!) I've transferred all her files to the new machine. I also moved her Epson C86 printer to the new machine.
    The files at issue are ordinary Appleworks 6 WP documents.
    The Appleworks 6 application runs just fine on the new machine, under Rosetta (I guess). The documents open and appear just as they should on the screen.
    The problem comes when trying to print. I open one of the documents, verify it looks right on the screen, and then I check the File-->Page Setup settings. The values that come up are for "Any Printer" and are crazy: for example, scaling is set at 1856% (or some such number).
    I can adjust the settings for the Epson C86, US letter-sized, but as soon as I do that the document on the screen shrinks down to tiny. Nothing prints. Printing Preview shows a tiny document.
    I haven't been able to figure out any way to adjust the Page Setup to get out of this. I guess the problem is that Page Setup parameters aren't always portable from machine to machine, even if the printer itself is the same. I don't know much about her previous setup. It's possible the documents had been maintained with Page Setup parameters for an entirely different printer
    Workaround: I can open a new Appleworks documents and transfer the old document content to the new file by copy-and-paste. That solves the problem: The new document looks like the old one on the screen, Page Setup works just as expected, and the documents print just as they should.
    I'm reluctant to apply this workaround because there are quite a few documents to transfer, and this work-around will set the creation and last-modified dates of the resulting files to the present, which is a slight disadvantage when it comes to managing her documents/
    My question: Are there any other measures to deal with this issue? I'm imagining something like using "Option-File-->Page Setup" to completely clear any existing Page Setup parameters. Or.... ?
    TIA,
    Henry

    Hello
    It's an old oddity.
    My workaround is:
    Save as AW5 document then open the newly created AW5 document with AW6.
    This removes the embedded print record.
    Added feature: it rebuilds the internal pointers so it drop possible ramping corruption.

  • I'm using Snow Leopard and Firefox 6.0.2. I regularly use page setup, scale to get web pages to print on one page or at least fewer pages, and also to save as PDF. Not working now.

    It has worked fine until recently. Now at less than 100%, the first page is reduced normally but pages 2 etc seem to be not reduced and pushed up and off the upper right of the page with header and page text completely missing on top and entire right of page. What happened? It is doing this on multiple web pages. No problem printing in any other program. Safari doesn't have scaling so I can't check that. It has been going on for several weeks and it is very irritating, and a waste of paper.

    Usually, where there are issues like that, it has to do with incompatible programs that may be loaded at system startup. So, in System Preferences, look at your login ID, and login items, and see if any programs listed there should be updated to run with Snow Leopard. While in System Preferences, look at the bottom of the window where you may find some programs listed also. Check them too.
    On your scanner, HP changed the way the scanners work under Snow Leopard. See this HP document: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &os=219&product=3739150&sw_lang=#N377 . Scroll down and click the scanning twistie.

  • Page Setup Settings Not Saved

    My custon paper seize setting under 'User Defined Paper Size' that I 'save' are not in fact saved. I am printing a series of images on 11" x 13.5" paper with my Epsdon Stylus Photo R3000 and these setting do not remain as I go to a new print.
    All these images have been printed previously with my Epson 2400, which i replaced with the 3000. When the 'Print' dialog box opens and the imates indicates the 2400 as the printer, and I switch that to the 3000 the setting after I click on 'Page Setup' reverts to the standard 8.5x11 size although I 'pull down' my appropriate saved setting.
    Any help in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated!

    Can you post a link to the article you are referring to?
    I assume you have tried using a nother USB sync cable to help rule out the possibility of a faulty one?  What about plugging the iPod into a different USB port on your Mac?
    It might help to remove any other USB devices you have connected to the Mac. Then reboot the Mac as well as your iPod by pressing and holding both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear. Then try to resync.
    Could you provide the full text from the error messages you are referring to?
    Make sure you are running the latest version of iTunes (10.6.3).

  • Reader 9.0.0 Mac - Page Setup

    I just installed Reader 9.0.0 on my MacBook Pro running 10.4.11. When I go to "Page Setup" and try to select a different printer under the "Format For" option I can only see the "Any Printer" option. It does not show any of my specific printers in the drop down. Is this a bug in 9.0.0? I know I can select different printers in v8.1.3.

    I tried removing and reinstalling the printer, but Reader 9 still does not see them.

  • Applescript to change Page setup in PowerPoint for Mac

    Very new to AppleScript.    I'd like to change the Page Setup to "On-screen show (16:9)".  Within PowerPoint it is under File>Page Setup>Size>Slides sized for : On-screen Show (16:9).    I did find within AppleScript that the Slide Size is a Property of the Page Setup Class within the Microsoft PowerPoint Suite.  It is also listed under the Application Class >Command Bar Class>Command Bar Control.  The Page Setup inherits it's properties from Base Object.
    I tried to manually record the process of opening a PPT file and choosing File>Page Setup>Size>On-screen show (16:9) but it only recorded the process to activate PPT and open the file.
    I wrote this script:
    tell application "Microsoft PowerPoint"
         activate
         open {file"MacBook Pro Hard Drive:Users:Patrick:Desktop:AppScript.pptx"}
    set slide size to "on-screen show"
    end
    I get the error "Syntax Error :  A property can't go after this identifier" and "slide size" is highlighted.
    I'm stuck......Slide Size is a property of the Page Setup Class.  How should I write this ?

  • Page to page PDF links under Linux

    I'm using Framemaker version 8.0p277.
    I have created separate pages for a menu hierarchy that cascades from "contents.pdf" down to subordinate pages like "genh_toc.pdf". Each file is a single page; no menu is collected into a book (but easily could be - I just inherited this setup). Subordinate pages have links to manuals, which are comprised of 4 to 20+ files.
    The menu links are made using the Hypertext command, openlinkfitwin. They work under Windows, but not under Linux. I can see that the names are correct in the Linux status bar.
    Your thoughts?

    If the links work okay on Windows Adobe Reader but not Linux Adobe Reader, and you are using relative pathnames in your links, then this could be a Linux Adobe Reader problem. Several versions of Adobe Reader on various platforms are notorious for document links not working, especially if the link has to open a document in a different directory.
    You could try updating your Linux Adobe Reader version, although bug-fixed versions of Reader are not always rolled out on all platforms - Linux users often have to wait a long time for a fixed version.
    Or you could (as I have been forced to do by this chronic and recurring bug) abandon Reader altogether and use xpdf instead.

  • Setting postcard as custom paper size in Page Setup

    I am once again in trouble with paper sizes and printing. I want to print standard postcards (13.9 cm wide, 8.8 cm high). I opened a word processor, went to File -> Page Setup, set the printer to Stylus Photo R340; then -> paper size -> manage custom sizes. I set the width and height, set the margins to the printer's ones and named the size 'Postcard (landscape)'.
    When I wanted to print a card, I went to Paper Handling -> Scale to fit paper size, I chose 'Postcard (landscape)', un-checked 'Scale down only' and printed. What happened? The card went straight through and my text was printed on the rollers after the card had gone. In other words the printer ignored the postcard paper size and printed as if I had put an A4 or other letter-sized sheet in. What am I doing wrong? This happens with various word-processors.

    eMac G4, 1.25 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    I now have some further detailed information, which makes it all seem even more bizarre. I have now carefully tried three word processors, and I have also tried some slightly different paper size specifications:
    WORD: 13.88 x 8.80 works. Size appears under 'Paper handling'.
    APPLEWORKS and MELLEL: 13.88 x 8.80 does not work; size does not appear under 'Paper handling' — 'Scale to fit' has to be used, but does not do anything.
    ALL THREE: 13.90 x 8.90 works. Size appears under 'Paper handling'. 14.00 x 9.00 also works correctly in all three WPs.
    I should be really interested in an explanation, if anyone could supply one.

  • Print and Page Setup Error

    I just installed CR 2008 and am getting an 'out of memory' error when I hit 'page setup'. After clicking 'okay' on the error, it opens the page setup screen, but attempting to change anything brings up an 'an invalid argument was encountered' error.
    Task manager says that I have plenty of memory.
    I also have a problem with CR shutting down when I hit the print button.  I end up with this error:  crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvienience.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Chris,
                  Try turning off the DEP for Crystal reports, and check if it works after that. For turning off the DEP, right click 'My Computer' -> Properties -> 'Advanced' -> click the 'Settings' button under the Performance frame -> 'Data Execution Prevention' -> select the second radio button -> click on 'Add' and select 'Crw32.exe' through the dialog box.
    Thanks,

  • "Rows to repeat at top", in Page Setup/Sheet disabled in Excel 2010

    I have read all of the postings on this question. I am having the same problem! However I do not see any solution. I see a lot of "I think's", or "try this'", but no clear cut-solution. Let me restate;
    I am running Excel 2010 in Office Professional:
    I want to print a long spread sheet and I would like the title row repeated on the top of each page. I specify the print area range. The first row is frozen, so that when I scroll through my work on screen, I can differentiate the column information by having
    the first row frozen. I want this to happen when I print this long document.
    I go to print and go to Page Setup. I select the "Sheet" tab. The Print address bar area is disabled (grayed), but my print range is there. Under "Print" Titles", both selections are disabled (grayed); "Rows to Repeat at Top" and Columns to Repeat at Left"
    are unavailable for selection. The address selection button on the right, of each of these three address range bars are also disabled (grayed).
    This worksheet is on my hard drive. It is the only worksheet in the file. When I click on the worksheet tab, it does not say "Ungroup Sheets" which means that sheets have never been grouped.
    I have been using Excel since Excel 95. I have done this many times in past versions, and it is a relatively simple procedure. Does any know why I can not access this feature in Excel 2010?

    Here we are 15 months later and Microsoft Excel 2013 has the SAME ERROR
    If one chooses:
    Print Preview
    Page Setup
    Sheet
    Then the print area and print titles (Rows to repeat at top, columns to repeat at top)
    are all grayed out and cannot be selected.
    If, however, I choose the
    page layout bar and click print titles then
    everything works fine.
    Thanks for the solution!!!
