Page shifting (or bouncing) left to right?

Hello,
I just completed a revision of my website:  http://www.sharibeaubien.com.
There's something odd happening that I can't understand how to fix...
When the site loads in Firefox and the viewer is paging through the main navigation (index, portfolio, bio, and galleries pages) the page jumps slightly either left or right when navigating to/from the "Galleries" page.
I notice in Safari and Opera that the shift happens differently.  In these two browsers, the "Portfolio" page and the "Bio" page are consistent with one another while the "Galleries" page and "Index" page are consistent with one another.  Navigate between those two groups, however, and the jump happens.
My husband checked the site on Internet Explorer at work and he says there is no shift anywhere.
I've poured over the code and I just can't come up with a reason why this is ocurring.
Any help you can provide would be most appreciated!
Thank you,
Shari

To get the most out of DW, you need to be able to work with HTML and CSS code.  That's something you can learn on your own in a few hours and it will make things so much easier for you.
Start here:  HTML & CSS Tutorials - http://w3schools.com/
To make an external style sheet in DW:
     1) hit File > New > Basic page: CSS.
     2) Paste your CSS rules into the new page and SaveAs Basic.css.
     3) Then follow the instructions below to link HTML documents to your newly created style sheet.
     http://alt-web.com/DEMOS/DW-Link-Stylesheet.shtml
     4) Repeat Step 3 for each HTML page in your site (including portfolio pages).  If you make changes to your style sheet it will be reflected in all your HTML pages.

    I can get them on the page but I'd like them on the left and right sides.

    If the icons are from dmg files that were used to install 3rd party apps like this one for VueScan
    Control (right) - click on the open dmg icon and select "Eject  xxxx" from the contextual window.
    Then find the actual dmg file associated with those icons
    and drag to the Trash in the Dock and empty.

    Hi madhav,
    I still do not understand. Do you mean the Top-Level Navigation (2 level navigation bar at top), or do you mean Page Toolbar (with name of page and history/breadcrumbs)?

  • Some pages shift to the left on iOS mobile platform

    This  persistent problem is driving me nuts. Some pages of my mobile sites shift to the left. All of the pages are similarly sized: 420 w x 570 h.As recommended in another thread, I inserted <meta name = "viewport" content = "width = XXX" initial-scale = 1.0> in the metadata to no avail. An example can be found here: http://rockandvine.businesscatalyst.com/index.html.

    Hi,
    It seems there are navigation arrows placed to the far right (beyond page) on the pages/master in the Phone layout.
    Please check: https://grabb.worldsecuresystems.com/2013-09-20_0115.png
    Removing these should alight the pages correctly.
    Hope that helps.

  • Pages shift to the left

    When printing to an HP 3550 in Windows 7 a single page document prints 9 separate pages each slight shifted to the left until the last document only has about a 1/2" of the document on the right side of the page.  This does not happen all of the time but most of the time.

  • Page "bounces" left to right when it loads

    Any ideas why my pages are bouncing around a bit when they load? I have a feeling it has something to do with having wrong table widths or something like that maybe?  Any ideas appreciated!
    http://www.bluehippotravel.com

    Wow. Multiple <body>, multiple <title>, loading bluehippo4.css four times, lots of HTML errors, more CSS errors than I've ever seen in one place, images without width and height attributes, redundant CSS, ... I can see why you're having a hard time finding the tiny little glitch in all that tangle. I didn't even look at the JavaScript.
    I suspect one of the main culprits is that you might be using includes and that the file(s) you are including has elements that do not belong inside the body of the main page (extra <body> and <title> to name a couple). If that is true, edit all of that stuff out of the external include file. Otherwise, just delete those extra tags.
    Please clean up the invalid CSS, consolidate the redundant CSS, fix as many of the HTML errors as you can and see if that doesn't solve the problem. If it doesn't, I'll be happy to have another look at it. Or maybe some other kind soul will be able to sort it out as is, but I think that's asking a lot.
    These two sites should be your constant companions during Web development:
    http://validator.w3.org/
    http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
    In fact, as Web dev tools, they are more valuable than Dreamweaver itself.
    I also recommend using FireFox with the Web Developer and FireBug add-ons to add more tools to aid in Web dev.

  • Sometimes, Firefox will go back one page on hitting a left or right arrow key. How do I stop this?

    I have noticed that inadvertant hitting of the left or (more often) right arrow key will cause the browser to go back one page in that current tab's history.
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week
    == I don't know - I just noticed that the most recent occurrance involved accidentally hitting the right arow key.

  • Template pages shift slight to left when uploaded

    Hello,
    I'm fairly new to dreamweaver and i'm having difficulty trying to get my template page to open correctly. On my index page i created editable regions and saved the page as a template. I open new template choosing the one i just created. I add text to it and save it. When i upload all the files and  click on the tab to connect to my template page the template opens but it shifts sligtly to the left. What am i doing that might be causing this. Thanks, Owen

    I understand now that once you select a region to be editable the rest of the areas are locked.
    That's not correct.  A given template page can have many editable regions on it, as well as the non-editable regions.
    I'm trying to get the spry menu at the top to be editable.
    Honestly, you would never want to have your menu in an editable region, without making it a Library item or a server-side include first.  What is it you were hoping to accomplish by doing that?
    if i go into the template i can't insert widget as it is locked.
    A template file is always completely editable - there are no locked areas.  It's on the child pages where you might get this message.
    The home page and the second link (private lessons) seem to be working,
    Add this to your CSS in the Template page -
    html, :root { overflow-y:scroll; }
    Now all of your pages will work.

  • Noob: Adding text shifts my page over to the left

    Okay, I've got seven or so pages mocked up with header div, nav div and then a content div. the body tag has a max width of 960px and auto left & right (so centered on the page).
    On all the pages so far, they all line up sweet.
    On one, when I paste some text (roughly an A4 page worth) into the content div, the whole page shifts to the left by about 10 pixels. Header div, nav div and content div.
    The text is just plain, unstyled text with no CSS applied.
    It's doing my head in - that particular page 'jumps' to the left, whereas all the other pages are perfect.
    TIA,
    Simon.

    The page shift to the left is caused by the appearance of the vertical browser scroll bar on pages where the content is more than a screen deep (therefore requiring scrolling).
    Where the content is less than a screenful, the scrollbar disappears and the page shifts to the right.
    http://css-tricks.com/eliminate-jumps-in-horizontal-centering-by-forcing-a-scroll-bar/
    The usual fix is to add the following rule to your CSS stylesheet
    html {
    overflow-y: scroll;
    This forces a scrollbar to appear on every page (thereby eliminating the page shift) whether it is required by the amount of content or not.

  • Page shifting to left beacuse of text column length

    I have encounter a curious problem with a page shifting to the left, when displayed in IE because of the length of a column.  The page has a minimum height of 500px, if the column of red type is longer than 460px, whether the column is filled with type, some type or no type, the page will shift to the left when displayed. if 460px or less, the page will not shift.  When viewed in IOS6 on ipad, the page does not shift.  The shifting page locations is http://www.ldpinc.com/work.html . The location of the photo block at the top of the page is exactly the same on all pages, it is only this page that shifts.
    Thanks for the help.
    Dan

    I expect it's scrollbar related. See http://forums.adobe.com/message/5012449#5012449.

  • Page shift due to vertical scroll bar issue

    I'm working through a vertical scroll bar issue in my design, using a ProjectSeven CSS page template. When testing the site in my browsers (FF/Safari/IE/Opera), and IF the scroll bar is not present, the entire page shifts to the left (the width of the scroll bar) when I click a link in the left column of my design. The page does not shift when the vertical scroll bar is present. Support at P7 suggested the following fix:
    html, body {
    height: 100.1%;
    margin: 0 0 1px;
    I've tried placing this markup in about ten different places but can't seem to find the right location in the code. Is it possible for someone in the forum to take a look at my page source and show me where/how to locate this fix?
    See my test site at:
    http://www.murcal.com/test_curvi_2.html
    Thanks .  .  .  .

    PZ,
    I'd like to place the fix where you've suggested, but that's the whole issue.
    I simply don't know where my CSS ends (duh). Is it possible that you show me exactly where?
    Hopefully this is the right section of my code:
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

    <link href="p7curvitude/p7CRV08.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    <!--[if lte IE 6]>
    <style>
    #navbar a {height: 1%; float: left;}
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    <script type="text/javascript" src="p7pmm/p7PMMscripts.js"></script>
    <link href="p7apm/p7APM10.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all" />
    <script type="text/javascript" src="p7apm/p7APMscripts.js"></script>

    <link href="p7pmm/p7PMMh07.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all" />
    </head>
    <body>
    I've tried placing it in about ten different places, but I'm wrong everytime.
    Obviously, I'm a beginner trying to learn. I just can't seem to place it correctly.

  • Site Pages Shift

    I created a site and used a dwt file for the inside pages. When you click through the navigation each page seems to shift to the left or right a little bit. What causes this? I checked the masthead images on all pages to make sure the logo and other elements are aligned. Take a look at the site and tell me what you think might cause this. The concern is with the inside pages, not the homepage. Thanks in advance.
    http://www.responsibilitycenteredleadership.com/index.html

    it doesn't appear all the pages are the same width, so you may want to look into that.
    you also have to consider the scroll bar of the browser appearing or not, which can create a shift... but you dont need to do anything about that.

  • Page shifts on iPad

    I'm creating a new desktop portfolio site. On a desktop monitor everything is fine, but on my iPad some pages shift to the left. Ive searched for spurious text boxes - there are none I could find. I've tried moving objects away from the right margin (by a pixel or two) but it doesn't help. I've even trialled one of the offending pages designed specifically for a tablet, but it still happens.
    The pages in question are child pages in the 'Design' section.
    Has anyone got a fix for my problem? I'm a html virgin.
    I'm currently trialling my site on business catalyst under: elcricdercasv1.businesscatalyst.com

    Hi Sanjit,
    I thought no one cared! Yes, I resolved the problem - for what its worth it turned out to be one of the rectangles spanning the page in the headers. This moved up and out of view when the page was scrolled. I've pinned it in place and now the problem is resolved. A little bizarre really, as it only affected certain pages that used that particular master page.
    Thank you for your response, so problem sorted

  • How do I get my sections using two-page spreads to start on the right side of the spread?

    (I use Indesign CC 2014, on Windows 7)
    My book has multiple sections.
    Each section is a separate file.
    All pages use  2up master pages.
    If all sections had an even number of pages, there would be no issue. But some end on a left page (left side page of spread).
    Therefore, some sections needs to start their first page on the right side of spread.
    I need to output PDFs for production, and due to content fluctuation the quantity of pages in each spread is random.
    Do I have to manage whether each section starts on the left or right of the spread manually?
    Here's an example:
    Once the PDF is output, I need the first page of Section 2 to automatically be where the pink rectangle is.
    Instead, the last page of Section 1 and the first page of Section 2 both use the left facing page of my 2up master pages.

    FYI, in western left-to-right-reading languages, books are expected to be numbered with odds on the right and evens on the left. If you want to start a new section on a left page after a section that ends on a left page, what most people would do is add a blank right page. You will often see such a page labeled something like "This page has been intentionally left blank." or maybe just an ornament to show that it wasn't a misprint. That is preferred to numbering a left page with an odd number.

  • Entire Page Shift left-right

    A page on a website I designed shifts by about ten pixels to the left. I have several master pages with essentially the same background. The elements on the master page are not locked. Should they be? How can I see where the error is if I cannot see the HTML data? Does anyone have any idea what prompts that kind of a shift? Is it a bug? This was not happening before version beta 7.
    The url is
    http://www.primary-team.com/news.html
    I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks,
    Rich

    REVISED: Since there have been no suggestions I will add this. I tried creating a new test site with the same art for background and it seemed that as long as no new pages are added to the site (menu) once much work has been complete it was stable. After adding more text to the site I'm getting the same problem again. A page shift once you click from page to page using the menu. It seems like a definite bug in Muse.
    Any help?
