  • Firefox won't open after i downloaded a Page Speed browser add-on

    I went to Google Webmaster Central. To check my site performance it asked me to :
    Install the Page Speed browser add-on
    Use Page Speed to evaluate the performance of your pages and get suggestions on how to improve them. Learn more
    Install Page Speed
    Install while using Firefox
    The "Install Page Speed" being https://dl-ssl.google.com/page-speed/current/page-speed.xpi
    It then asked me to restart firefox. I said ok and firefox switched off but never started again. It won't open when i try to start it again.
    I have a lot of saved bookmarks and don't want to loose them. Will this happen if i uninstall and reload firefox or is there a way to get this version working again.

    Try opening Firefox in [[safe mode]], whilst in safe mode you can access the add-ons manager and uninstall the Page Speed Browser extension. Hopefully this will resolve your problem.

  • SEO Page Speed insights (Google)

    Hi All,
    Disclaimer: I'm not a coder.
    I'm aware the Muse team are always imporving SEO compatability for the code output from Muse.
    Recently Google have made availible various development tools to let us admins test our site's performances in relation to Google rankings and search optimisation.
    I've been experimenting with these tools on a Muse site I have made in the last 6 months and it returns several errors, which have JS script issues, HTML issues - Particually on mobile.
    Links to tools:
    https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/about
    Page Speed insights tool seems to not regconise the Mobile Optimised layout of the Muse site, but instead shows a preview of the desktop version, even though when navigated to on a mobile device, the mobile optimised layout loads fine. URL: www.larasclinic.com (Built & published last with MUSE 6.0)
    The tool returns several errors with sugestions on fixes, some of which seem to code fixes. Here's an example:
    - Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
    Your page has 1 blocking script resources and 3 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
    Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:
    http://www.larasclinic.com/css/site_global.css?96667304
    http://www.larasclinic.com/css/master_a-master.css?427926077
    http://www.larasclinic.com/css/index.css?3883076921
    So my questions to the team is...
    Q. How many of these fixes as a Muse user can I do myself to insure the site is as SEO strong as possible, avoiding these Google testing errors?
    And what features are coming to Muse to optimise the code output and SEO in the future?
    I've seen all the recent tutorials on SEO, but it would be good to see a more in-depth, Google Search Ranking related one and how to optimise Muse websites.
    All answers appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Robbie.

    Page Speed is a tool for measuring factors that contribute to the page load performance of a web page. It actually has nothing to do with Search Engine Optimization or your ranking in Google.
    If your concern is page load times, there are many different useful tools available. However, in most cases big changes in page load performance come from reducing the amount of content on a page and ensuring all images are being properly sized and encoded (the latter being something Muse mostly takes care of for you), and not the level sort of changes recommended by PageSpeed. In many cases PageSpeed will list a page of changes where many or most are valid, but the investment to make them all would be large and the net gain in page load performance would be very small relative to other sorts of changes that could/should be made.
    For SEO (from a very simplified view) there are two primary factors that contribute to where your page ranks within Google. The first is how well the content of your page(s) correlate to the specific search phrase someone entered in Google. And the second is how "popular" your site is, measured primarily by how many other sites/sources contain links to your pages relative to the popularity of other sites that had a similar correlation to the search phrase.
    A 60-second course on SEO is:
    1) Pick ~3 search phrases you want to optimize for. Then work to have those phrases and the words in those phrases appear regularly in the content of your pages, paying special attention to .html file names, image file names, headings (marked with h1, h2, etc. tags), page titles, your domain name, image alt text, the text content of the actual pages, etc.
    2) Leverage Twitter, Facebook, Blogs in your industry, etc. to generate interest in your site and thus generate links back to your site.
    3) Submit your sitemap.xml to Google using Google's Webmaster Tools so they're aware of your site and more likely to re-index it sooner rather than later.
    There's tons more to SEO, but that's a start. PageSpeed isn't where you want to be if your goal is to improve SEO.

  • Context menu "Page Speed" in video playback

    In clarification to answer given to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/961774#answer-463032 (closed thread): The context menu "Page Speed" in video playback applies to a html5 video playback streams. Older flashplayer video does not support this feature. This is not related to tab mix plus addon.
    (this is comment rather than question)

    See answer above
    Check http://www.youtube.com/html5 that it is enabled if applicable. Html5 player test videos can be found at http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html if you are not sure where to find a video that will show the "play speed" context menu. If you believe that a html5 video stream is available for the web page but are still seeing the flashplayer video you need to temporarily disable flash support before loading the web page. For that, you may like to try the quickjava addon , which gives you a button to turn flash on/off while browser is running. If you don't see any video after disabling flash then that page does not support an alternate html5 player stream.

  • I cannot add on my "collection" of on the Firefox website "Page Speed" of google

    IT IS A WEBSITE PROBLEM NOT FIREFOX SOFTWARE.
    Same as title. It just doesn't find the addon "Page speed" of google on the website of Firefox. And because I tend to lose the plugins while switching between FF versions, I really need a place to collect all my addon as list.

    Both the Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause an issue like that. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.

  • Swf play speed and web page speed are Different

    Any idea why the swf's visual speed is different when viewed
    as a swf or viewed from a browser page?
    Some factoids: I have Flash 8.0, Action script 2.0. I have
    published the swf (and related html) locally. 15 fps. The flash
    contains animation, and an event audio.
    When I author and adjust the timing of the audio and the
    animation in my flash file it is synchronized. Further, when I
    preview the animation it is synched. Also it is synched if I view
    the swf from the hard drive.
    However, if I invoke the swf's html file, either online or
    locally, the visual significantly lags the audio.
    It is not a matter of swf size as the swf is .4 meg. It is
    not a matter of computer resources as the computer I have is the
    latest model nicely equipped Dell.

    Hi OT,
    well, it's not so strange the difference in size.
    As I wrote before, it's iWeb that create a new background image for every page.
    In the page menu>layout you can choose the background image. My original background image file is just 152Kb.
    But in that menu I setted the file as "Tinted image fill" and "Tile".
    So iWeb "tints" my original file with a color and change it from jpg to png and then, istead of just "tiling" the image to fill the length of each page, it tiles the tinted image to fill the length of each page and then create a file of that length. So it's not a real tiling, and the background_1 file become different for every page.
    In an other web site I just chose a background image and tiled it. Well the bg. file created by iWeb is smaller than the original one and it's really just tiled, so the file is the same for every page, even the length of pages is different.
    The problem is the "tinted image fill" setting. As I wrote and as you tested, if you use a graphics editing software, you can create by yourself the "tinted image file" and then use it as background in iWeb without the "tinted image fill" and "tile" setting on, but just "image fill" and "tile" setting on.
    The files you dowloaded from my site are not the original one. The original bg file is white with the paper pattern and it's 640X480 152Kb jpg file. You cannot find it on the site, it's just in my hard disk.
    So I have to tint the original white paper pattern file with the green I like by a software and then save it as a small jpg file. In iWeb just set this new file as bg "image fill" and "tile".

  • Please answer?  Regarding to Pages' speeding so slow.

    This is my second attempt to post this.
    I am designing a program book for the organization. When I pulled the photo from other file into the blank document. When I was trying to edit/adjust the image, the image's reaction shows a 5 to 8 seconds delay or continuously movement which I wanted to stop it. Why can't it be same time to adjust size with the cursor? Does it have something to do with this Macbook Pro's memory speeding or something that need improve to be able control how to design the photos?
    I will appreciate your help with this because doing the program book is a lot of work to do.
    Thanks

    It is most likely memory. To check if you are using all of the computer's memory, open your Applications folder, open the Utilities folder, open the app named Activity Monitor. After that opens, click the System Memory tab near the bottom of the window. In the column headings, click Real Memory to show the apps taking the most memory at the top. You may have to click it twice. Sometimes clicking it once brings the lowest memory using apps to the top. Now you can see how much memory Pages is taking up and if you have any green in the pie chart.
    If you don't, all of your memory is being used up and you should restart the computer and only open Pages so you can have as much memory devoted to Pages as possible. Another thing you can do in Pages is turn off thumbnail view. You can turn that off under the View menu in Pages.
    One more note. Pages inserts full resolution photos & graphics in it's layout and resizes in high resolution. This makes things slower unfortunately. It's the tradeoff of viewing/resizing in high resolution. The more large photos you have in your document, the more memory it will use and the slower the screen redraw will be in Pages when resizing your photo.

  • Pages' speeding and cooperation

    Nope, enabling Printer Sharing just opens the Printing ports in the firewall locally.

  • IMac will not load web pages, but high speed internet.

    Hi all,
    I upgraded my internet yesterday to 100Mbps, and received a modem + router combo from my ISP (Charter). It is a Netgear CG3000D and I have another router hooked up, which is a Cisco/Linksys E3200. The problem I'm encountering is extremely slow page speeds, it'll take from 3 to 5 minutes for pages to load. My first thought was DNS, but of course I tried Google's Public DNS and OpenDNS. Unfortunately, they did not work. I called both the ISP and router manufacturer, but still no luck. I called Apple, but I'm not paying $49 for additional support. I'm assuming my Mac is caching something it's not supposed to. I do not live near an Apple store to see what's wrong. I went into safe mode and the issue still hasn't been resolved. There's multiple devices working fine, and I've noticed when my Mac is connected to my router, my PC goes haywire as well. And FYI -- I connected my iMac directly to the ISP's modem/router and it didn't work either.
    Internet/Cable > Netgear CG3000D > Cisco/Linksys E3200 > iMac
    Please help! Much appreciated.
    Take care,
    Tyler

  • SPA-525G2 Multicast/Speed Dial Issue

    One of our customers reported some severe issues after we placed a speed dial button on their attendant consoles for their multicast paging group.  Whenever they received an incoming call or placed an outgoing call, both streams of audio would play through the multicast group.  Removing the speed dial button resolved the issue, however they are still requesting that particular feature.
    I've reproduced the issue in a lab setting, using two 525G2s and one 504G, all with attendant consoles.  The paging group is using 239.123.123.121, port 10000, number 1150 and the speed dial button can be placed on the phone or on the attendant console.  I previously used 224.123.123.121, port 60000, but tried a combination of port/address changes that were inneffective.  Initially I was using firmware version 7.4.8, but then upgraded to 7.4.9a, then to 7.4.9c, but this did not alleviate the issue.
    As it stands, the issue will NOT present itself until the paging speed dial button is first used after either a reboot or a resync.  The issue does not occur if the paging group is dialed directly and it only seems to happen on the SPA-525G2.  The 504G will not activate multicast under these circumstances.
    After the button is used, any incoming call will cause the 525s to multicast packets, even if the call is just ringing and not being answered.  Conversely, simply engaging the line by picking up the handset or pressing the speakerphone button will activate multicast.
    Has anyone come across this issue previously?  I've searched the forum and Google, but haven't found any information thus far.

    Have same exact issue with 525G2 + sidecar on 7.4.9c firmware. Problem only occurs if Page soft key or Page speed dial key is set up for page. Problem does  not happen on 525G2 without a sidecar. Page uses multicast IP and Port to their lines in the page group. After using the button, every subsequent inbound and outbound call is multicast to all members of the page group. Pretty nasty issue.

  • Tip: Speeding up iWeb

    Well, I've mostly switched to using Freeway Pro for web design, but I wanted to put this tip out in the iWeb community.
    I've been playing with speeding up my websites per the suggestions from the Google Page Speed Test. What I found was that iWeb are slow! www.3michigan.org had scored 7/100 (really, really bad).
    1. Optimize the images using ImageOptim (free!) before uploading them to your web space. This means that you first have to publish to a local folder first, optimize the images, and then upload to your server using an FTP app, like Cyberduck.
    To find all the images in the local folder, navigate to it in finder, and type "blah" into the finder search. Then, press the + button and select "Kind is Image - All. Now, highlight the "blah" that you typed in prevously and hit the delete key. All the images in the local publish folder will now appear.
    Type Command-A and drag them all to the ImageOptim window. Now, ImageOptim will optimize all the images and automatically save them back into the folder where they came from.
    Now all you have to do is upload it to your webserver!
    2. Leverage Browser Caching
    Open your text editor and paste this bit of code into it:
    ## EXPIRES CACHING ##
    <IfModule mod_expires.c>
    ExpiresActive On
    ExpiresByType image/jpg "access 1 year"
    ExpiresByType image/jpeg "access 1 year"
    ExpiresByType image/gif "access 1 year"
    ExpiresByType image/png "access 1 year"
    ExpiresByType text/css "access 1 month"
    ExpiresByType application/pdf "access 1 month"
    ExpiresByType text/x-javascript "access 1 month"
    ExpiresByType application/x-shockwave-flash "access 1 month"
    ExpiresByType image/x-icon "access 1 year"
    ExpiresDefault "access 2 days"
    </IfModule>
    ## EXPIRES CACHING ##
    Save this file as "htaccess" on your computer. Then upload it to the public_html or www folder on your server. Now, rename it to ".htaccess" (Without the quotation marks). If you server hides system files, then the file should dissapear from view.
    Anyone else have any tips for speeding up an iWeb website?

    I don't really pay attention to stats because they can be manipulated so many ways and there are so many variables. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.
    If a web page takes more than a few seconds to load you will lose cutomers. I had one person claim their site loaded in so many milliseconds! Of course, it didn't. There are so many variables beyond the actual size of the files -  such as the speed of the internet connection for a start.
    So many people creating websites seem to blissfully unaware of the fact that a large and growing number of their potential customers are using wireless networks and are up against data limits. They need to learn to cut all the non essential crap no matter what way you create web pages.
    Optimizers will obviously give the best improvements on badly coded sites.
    Apps like iWeb have to have lots of divs with positioning info to allow the user to be able to drag stuff around and drop it anywhere they want. Using a little thought and minimal css you can produce an equivalent page with a fraction of the code by using the position of items in the HTML.
    When coding a site I try to avoid any positioning info apart from some floats and media queries for responsive designs. iWeb has to add this info for every item. A lot of it is inline which is one cause of slow downloading sites. The browser has to load this info for every page instead of just reading a master stylesheet once.
    Apps like Freeway and Flux do a little better but its down to the user. The more you depend on drag and drop rather than code, the more code the app has to write to make up for the users inadequacies.
    I can code a website with Flux that is faster than most but, because I can, I don't need an app like Flux or Freeway anyway.
    Its unfortunate that there's nothing much around that will help users who are unwilling to learn code to create faster loading sites since this is becoming more important due to the rapid increase of mobile devices and less people using computers to surf.
    Unfortunately, you can't build a one size fits all website without getting your hands dirty with some code. You only have to look at the amount of code that the online mobile website builders produce to see that this is just a bad joke.
    HTML5 allows us to use leaner, meaner code and the advances in CSS are helping to make up for the extinction of flash and to cut down on javascript. Browsers are begining to catch up - even Internet Explorer. Its just the people who are being left behind!
    People expect movies and slideshows on websites nowadays because they don't like to read. Movies need to be loaded in different file sizes and formats for different devices with flash fallback for older browsers. I haven't seen any software that will do that without learning code.

  • Muse,Page items slow to load - eliminate render blocking java script?

    Everything was running smooth until I tried to cut and past new items into master pages. Now I have master page items loading out of sequence and very slowly at that. I went to google's page speed insites and I scored a 72% with a reccomendation to "Eliminate render blocking java script in above fold content" as well as "leverage browser caching"
    Well... I have no idea what that means
    any idea how I can improve the performance of my page? I've already compressed the images significantly, I don't think that's the problem. Google talks about expirey dates on cache items being too low or non existant causing delays on pages, and setting priority over viewable items. Can I do this in Muse?
    you can view the site here
    http://batco.businesscatalyst.com

    I've actually been having the same problem - the interesting thing is that I've only really noticed it in the past several weeks (before, everything loaded fine). Could there have been a change in Muse in the way it's loading scripts that is slowing it down?
    Examples:
    www.karlchristiankrumpholz.com
    www.pawdnerscolorado.com
    On the second site, I can't remember if I crunched the images, but on the first one, I used Image Optimizer to crunch down all of the pngs prior to publishing. For reference, I'm publishing both sites via Business Catalyst; one using a free CC account, and one using a paid eCommerce account.
    I ran it through Google PageSpeed, and here's what I get:
    Eliminate Render-Blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold Content
    Your page has 1 blocking script resources and 5 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
    None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.

    Interestingly, image size doesn't appear to be as much of an issue, according to PageSpeed:
    Properly formatting and compressing images can save many bytes of data.
    Optimize the following images to reduce their size by 30.3KiB (13% reduction).

  • Pages sluggishness vol. 450

    I know this has been hashed to death but I want to report a change in my system. Pages performance has suddenly improved. What has helped?
    This seemed to happen after I changed monitor resolution from 1024x768 to 800x600 and then back again. Before I did this I had modified the size of the icons and fonts on the desktop and had calibrated the monitor. When the monitor was reset to 1024 all the icons and fonts on the desktop went back to default... and Pages redraw improved.
    I had also noticed a darker area on the bottom of my monitor since calibrating. Resetting the monitor to default got rid of this as well. Is there a monitor cache that gets corrupted?
    In addition I just installed the recent Quicktime and Security updates. As with any install, the system runs the optimization routine. Did this help?
    Several of us have noticed that decreasing the monitor resolution improves Pages performance, in my case drastically. Using the default desktop setting seems to also benefit the program.
    The Pages sluggishness has been noted on a variety of machines. Why? Could it be that Pages is more sensitive to: monitor settings and desktop settings than most programs?
    Kurt

    You may find that decreasing the number of colors and changing the background of your desktop to a solid color will speed up the machine in general. Not sure if those will affect the capabilities of Pages.
    With regards to your steps, though, I would wonder if it was the calibration which effected the Pages speed. A calibration is alterations done through software to change the visual output from what is what is displayed internally to what you want it to look like externally.
    Removing the calibration may have resulted in less juggling to get things to look the way you intended, and the system updates may have resulted in less of a need to do so.

  • Speed Issue in Report With 1130680 Records Returned

    Hi
    <b>Apologies to the mods if this is in the wrong section, it contains content related to Legacy SDKs (VB6/COM), newer .NET content as well as report design issue.</b>
    I'm using Windows XP SP3 with the database hosted on my machine, an [email protected] with 2GB DDR2 RAM. Neither the client's pc nor their server are as powerful as mine. (It sucks, I know.)
    A report has a speed issue for the end users. The query to the database (SQLS2008) takes 30 seconds and returns 1 130 680 records. And yes, this is the amount of records that need to be returned (the report is a Sales Details report for transactions from 2008/09/01 to 2009/03/31) Running the query through SQLSMS takes the same amount of time whether I execute the statement that the report sends or put the query into a stored procedure. The relevant indices are in place.
    Our application is written in VB6 and uses the CR9 unmanaged runtime. I've written a small little CR application in VS2008 to see if running the report through the CR.NET runtime would make it quicker. I built the .NET app in release mode (with optimization and no debug data) and ran the exe to do the speed tests. The times taken for the report to run:<ul>
    <li>VB6 app - 3:30s
    <li>.NET app - 4:30s
    <li>VS2008 IDE - 2:02s
    </ul>
    I have run the report three times for each app using my cellphone as a stopwatch and the times are reproducible to within two seconds.
    I accidentally ran the report in the VS2008 IDE and it took 2:02s to run. Thinking that the loading of the DLLs in .NET was part of the problem, I added code under a button on the form with the following code:
    CrystalReportsApplication1.Properties.Settings a = new CrystalReportsApplication1.Properties.Settings();
    Assembly aAss = Assembly.LoadFile(a.CR01Engine);
    Assembly bAss = Assembly.LoadFile(a.CR02EntFramework);
    Assembly cAss = Assembly.LoadFile(a.CR03EntInfoStore);
    Assembly dAss = Assembly.LoadFile(a.CR04ReportSource);
    Assembly eAss = Assembly.LoadFile(a.CR05Shared);
    Assembly fAss = Assembly.LoadFile(a.CR06WinForm);
    to preload the assemblies. Unfortunately it made virtually no difference to the running time of the report.
    Suggestion from The specified item was not found. on [this page|Speed issue - internal processing vs views;:
    8. For summaries, use conditional formulas instead of running totals when possible.
    I didn't know that, but we're doing that already.
    I even tried using ngen in a virtual machine for the .NET app, but the time was the same. And yes, I know that ngen is only supposed to aid startup times and that it is actually recommended to let the JIT optimize on the fly instead of ngen optimize beforehand. What really struck me was that even in a VM (using Virtual PC 2007) using 512MB of RAM and only a single core the time was the same.
    My questions:<ol>
    <li>I thought that VS2008 shipped with CR2008 Basic, but according the the references in my project it's CR10. Would the CR2008 runtimes improve the report speed?
    <li>Why do the CR10 .NET runtimes take longer to execute than the CR9 COM runtimes?
    <li>I really, really, really need the .NET runtime to outperform the COM runtimes as our purchase of CR2008 hinges on this. As you can probably guess, we're currently using ye olde CR9.2 from 2002.
    <li>Why oh why do the CR10 .NET runtimes take longer to execute than the CR9 COM runtimes?
    <li>The first level of grouping is a variable which changed the grouping depending on a parameter. I changed it to a field from one of the tables and the times for the apps are:
    <ul>
    <li>VB6 - 2:15s
    <li>.NET - 2:48s
    <li>CR9.2 IDE - 2:19s
    <li>VS2008 IDE - 2:34s
    </ul>I may or may not be able to push it out to the client like this, I don't know. Why did the VS2008 IDE take longer this time? All I did was change the grouping-on-parameter to ordinary grouping.
    <li>Why oh why oh WHY do the CR10 .NET runtimes take longer to execute than the CR9 COM runtimes? Are they just thunkers to the COM DLLs?
    <li>Why does the run in the VS2008 IDE (in debug mode BTW, not release mode) run quicker than both programs?
    <li><i>AndrewJ.requestACookie(Flavour.Strawberry, Flavour.Alternate.ChocChip, RequestMethod.Please); // Hey, it's 5:44PM and I want to go home for the long weekend! </i>
    </ol>
    Thank you and have a blessed Easter!

    Please re-post if this is still an issue to the .NET Development - Crystal Reports Forum or purchase a case and have a dedicated support engineer work with you directly.
    Bottom line is CR Basic is version 10.5. CR 2008 is 12.2.x.xxxx. Install CR 2008 SP 1 to get .NET support.
    And you can't compare COM to .NET, it's like comparing apples and oranges, both fruits but different flavors.
