PageItem.exportFIle() changes in CS6 for PNGs

Along with the additions in PNG export settings, I've noticed that the way that pageItem.exportFile() works differently with PNGs in CS6.
In previous versions of InDesign, the PNG is export exactly how it appears onscreen in InDesign. However, in CS6 it exports a more "raw" version of the text, unfortunately. For instance, the following items are lost when exporting a pageItem in CS6:
Text wrapping from non-anchored images
Auto page numbers and text variables
Section markers (instead appear as "Section")
This seems like a bug to me. It seems to defeat the purpose of exporting an image (i.e., maintaining appearance). Hopefully, this will be corrected in the next version of InDesign (and/or a Creative Cloud update).

I agree it sounds like a bug, Justin.
Bugs are almost never fixed by hoping (though they are sometimes fixed by wish-ing).
Best is if you can open a case with Adobe Support (http://adobe.com/go/support) and explain it is a regression from CS5.5 and problematic and a bug and get them to file a bug for you, and give you a bug number for it.
If you can't do that (because you don't have support, or they want to charge you more money than you can afford, or whatnot), then filling out the above wishform is the way to go.
But definitely don't post here and hope. Otherwise we'll be at CS9 and thinking, "Gosh, some guy name Joostan posted about that problem a few years baaaaaack..."

How much future useage for CS6 for a stand-alone photographer?

I'm a semi professional small-scale photographer. It's a hobby, but I do some commercial work. It certainly isn't a living (I have other income)
I've been on CS6 for some time. It does absolutely everything that I need, and in fact it's too much. I could do with an application that's somewhere between Lightroom+Elements and CS6. It doesn't exist.
But as I've paid for CS6 I'm quite happy to keep on using it ad infinitum - after all, with no more upgrades (CS7 etc) it's free now! But at a realistic level how long can I run it for, do you think? I run a good spec desktop PC with Windows 7. I use CS6 in 64bit mode, and also Bridge. Assuming my PC fails in 12 months time (it's three years old) I will get a new destop using Windows 8. CS6 will run under Windows 8, so no problems there. My new desktop may last 5 years? That gives me a total of 6 years using CS6.
Of course, there will need to be support from Adobe for CS6, in particular if any significant bugs arise. But why should there be new bugs, unless they are in relation to third-party plugins etc? CS6 has been out for some time. Adobe are not going to change it (they have their head stuck in a cloud) so it shouldn't get broken. Or am I wrong in thinking that?
Any thoughts?

In the Photoshop CS6 row, click the Buy link
"I want to buy:", click on the dropdown menu and select Upgrade
click "I own" and on the dropdown menu select the relevant product which you already own

It look like CC has its share of bugs too. Though CC seems to be starting off better then CS6 did. While there have been a few dozen bugs reported in Adobe's Photoshop Family problem forum. That is not a large number and most are not problems with CC crashing.

As the title says I want to change the platform for a serial number so I can install it on my Mac. I know from searching on Adobe's help pages that you can request a platform or language swap, but the link they instruct you to use has been under maintenance since october last year? Is there another way around this? Thanks for all your help.

CS5 does not qualify for a platform swap. Adobe allows platform changes for the latest version only, which is CS6. The information regarding that is available thru the foillowing page...

If you just purchased the software then you should be able to return it to whatever third party vendor sold it to you for an exchange for the Mac version.

Tools Panel missing in Photoshop CS6 for Mac

I have been using Photoshop CS6 for Mac for about 6 mths. now. When I opened it yesterday to work on some photos, I noticed that my tools panel that is always located on the left side of my screen had disappeared. I have been unable to locate it anywhere. Also, the top of my photoshop page looks different. Any assistance that I could get would be greatly appreciated.

How to change the icon for 'windows group' in Java 1.6 [Windows XP] ?

Hello,
I was wondering if there is a possibility to change the icon for 'windows group' in Java 1.6...
I'm using Windows XP SP2. Now the windows from my Java 1.6 application are grouped with the standard Sun icon [screen below] on the group.

Whichever icon I use for the main frame (I tried few), after grouping the main frame and other sub-frames the icon is changed to standard 'Java Sun' icon as you can see in the screenshot from my first post. The problem occurs only when frames are grouped, when the are separated in the task bar their titles and icons are ok...

I would like to know if its possible to specify a font according to its language...
more specifically on CJK fonts (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)
so far I'm able to globally install a font by
grabbing a *.ttf (and *.otf) file and moving it to the /usr/share/fonts/(designated folder according to *.filetype)
i dont like how the default font for the CJK languages and I would like to change it so...
any idea how?

i installed the font manually and not using pacman nor aur packages.... i downloaded an *.ttf (and *.otf) files and move them to /usr/share/fonts/TTF using nautilus...
i couldnt figure where to configure them... i was able to configure it on firefox using about:config but the system itself... i didnt know how...
for some reason though when i resetted my laptop... the newly installed japanese font was able to applied in the system... it's solve but i have no clue how it fixed itself...

How can I change the icon for the bookmarks menu button

Using linux, the default icon for the bookmarks menu button is quite ugly. Is there a way to change the icon for the button with some code in userChrome.css ?

After several intents, I found a solution.
This is my userChrome.css file:

Probably it's messy but works.

InDesign CS6 for Windows: Type tool crashes program and am getting missing plug-in msgs.

Just installed InDesign CS6 for Windows. When I open the program, I receive three messages:
(1) Paragraph Panel.APLN needs Justification Panel plugin;
(2) Runin Styles Panell.APLN needs Find and Change Panel plug-in;
(3) Objectstylesui.APLN needs Graphics Panel plug-in.
To top it off, the type tool crashes the program.
I couldn't locate any current forum postings that appeared to help. I have uninstalled and re-installed the software. I have done an update from Adobe.
Advice? This is an educator's addition if that matters.

Thank for your help Peter. My software is working just fine now.
For others who might encounter these issues, here is how - with Peter Spier's help - I solved my problems. I uninstalled the previous CS6 version and re-booted. I disconnected from the Internet and then disabled my antivirus protection, antispyware and firewall. I had to do this in Norton as well as Windows (Windows Defender and Windows Firewall). Then I re-loaded the entire CS6 and re-booted. I opened InDesign. I no longer got the msgs about plug-ins missing. I then opened a new file and checked the Type tool. It worked fine. I opened an InDesign CS3 file, saved it as a new file in ID CS6. I was able to successfully edit text using the Type Tool.

You don't. Platform swaps only apply to current versions. You need to buy at least the CS6 upgrade and make the switch.

This is definately not true. Many users, including myself, use ATI cards without any problems. As with any video card the correct driver is the key for proper operation.
