PageMaker InDesign CS4 in Mac OS X?
A client has asked me to convert a PageMaker 6.5 document to PDF that I last worked on in 1999! That document was split into 5 files. I have been able to successfully open 4 of the 5 files in InDesign CS4. However, InDesign crashes each time I try to open the 5th file, which at 2.5 MB is by far the largest and contains the most links to external image files.
Prior to the crash I'm warned that one or more of the links is broken and advised to repair them in PageMaker before continuing, which of course I cannot do because PageMaker was removed from my page composition arsenal years ago. InDesign then valiantly works for 15 seconds or so to open the file before crashing. Any suggestions?
You should be able to distill a PDF, but no conversion to ID. But the point of the exercise is to get the file into condition where it can be opened into ID directly, not to do any major work in PM.
There are some problems with opeing PM docs in ID in vista, though, with CS2 (I think). Later versions should work.

Indesign CS4 in Mac 10.6.8, sometimes won't show files, sometimes won't show tools. Like I click to open a file from the finder, and Indesign makes that temporary file in the finder, but won't display the pages. At other times I can have the pages displayed but I can't open the tools such as the colour swatches or the paragraphy styles. This all happens at random, although I suspect it is more likely to happen if I have been working in some other program such as Typestyler or Aperture, and come back to Indesign. Kind of like Indesign gets snooty at me working in another program.
I've done the thing of dicing the preferences, but so far the only workaround that has worked so far is quitting and restarting the program. I don't remember this happening so much until recently, in other words the problem seems to be getting more frequent.
But I am wondering if this has happened with anyone else and if there are any other suggestions for avoiding it.
Back in the good old days you would reinstall PageMaker and that would settle things for a while. But now I don't know if a program like Indesign CS4 actually gets corrupted and if it does I don't know what to do. Does the program get corrupted? And should you reinstall a fresh copy? If it's a good idea to reinstall the program how do you do that? Is it possible to download a fresh copy? And if I do, what happens when the fresh copy phones home? I've tangled with the Adobe Microsoft corporation before when Indesign phoned home and got a crossed line.Other things to try:
Examine your specific version of Optima by going to Type menu > Find Font, clicking on the Optima font and choosing More Info (I think) and find the specific version number. See if you can uninstall the font and reinstall another Optima font with a different, preferably newer version number. There has (historically) been a bad version of Optima floating around for years. Maybe you have it.
Use a free utility like FontNuke or FontFinagler to get your Mac OS to reset its font plists. Sometimes that makes the OS feel better.
Use the built-in Disk Utility to repair file permissions. You never know.
Export your old document out to IDML and reopen that resulting idml file back into a new freshly written INDD file. This might remove internal database corruptions.
All these are chicken-soup things to try and they might be good for you.

Most Adobe software is written for one of two platforms, Mac or PC. In order to switch platforms you need to be using the most current version, so CS4 would not be supported for making this switch. Here is a link to a page that explains the requirements for switching platforms....

Printing from InDesign CS4 on Mac Snow Leopard to HP officejet pro K5400
I recently started using a Mac Snow Leopard with InDesign CS4; for awhile it printed fine. Then, dealing with a book mss, I had to get InDesign to convert the document to a PDF, and since that time, the Officejet Pro k5400 will only print in what appears to be the best quality, even when I tell it to print in fast draft, and even set that as a preset. Anybody had that problem? Anybody have any suggestions as to what is going on here? How can I get the printer to print in fast draft? Thanks for any help,

Why is InDesign CS4 so sluggish and disfunctional with Mac 10.6? Hasn't Adobe optimized it to work with this OS?
I disagree and would bet that this is indeed the reason. 10.5 to 10.6 was the only in place upgrade I ever did and I wound up with the same situation as the OP. Uninstalling CS4 did nothing to fix it.
I wound up wiping the drive and reinstalling 10.6 then the apps. I swore off O/S upgrades after that and will forever recommend against them. Clean installs are the only safe way to install and operating system whether it was designed in Redmond or Cupertino. -

FurhanaI've not heard of them, but most of the super deals for software like that are scams. They're usually beta software or hacked versions. Let the buyer beware!

Indesign CS4, CS5 Mac freezes/How can I get it to run?
I have been using Indesign CS5 Mac version. When I open it, after I make a new document, the color wheel keeps spinning until I force-close the program or restart my machine. I have taken CS5 off of my system and reloaded it with the same conclusion. Because I needed to use Indesign, I loaded version CS4, but came up with the same exact problem: the color wheel spinning continuously right after I have opened a new document.
Any suggestions?

Problem printing InDesign (CS4) with MAC OS 10.8.2
I have just upgraded to OS 10.8.2 on my Mac and use Creative Suite CS4. I can no longer print from Illustrator or InDesign, when I go to the print command the applications crash before the dialoge box appears. I am still able to print Photoshop files.

Launch Indesign CS4 then Mac pinwheel appears as keeps spinning
Just loaded the Adobe Creative Suite 4 onto my new MacBook Pro. Every program works except InDesign. When I launch it I get the spinning pinwheel and the start page stops at Initializing...
Help. I have checked some of the other discussions nothing has worked so far. Thanks.Is your new MacBook Pro running Lion? If so, you may expect to have problems with CS4, though I'm not 100%.
Wait for InDesign to hang, and then gather these two diagnostics, and upload them to http://pastebin.com (do not upload them here!):
1. In Activity monitor, select InDesign and choose Sample Process. Save to a file and upload.
2. Also in Activity Monitor, run View > Send Signal: Abort (SIGABRT) and InDesign will crash. Upload the crash report.
Post the pastebin URLs here and we'll tell you what is up.

Help Creating Booklet PDF in InDesign CS4 on Mac OS X
I need to print a 64-page document as a "booklet," and would like to create a pdf document so I can print it off of another computer in my office. I have printed the booklet successfully from my computer, so I know that my settings for the booklet are correct, but I can't seem to figure out how to print the document the same way as a pdf. It doesn't work to go to Print Booklet > Print Settings > Printer > PDF > Save as PDF, and when I try to print as a PostScript File it "works," but the final pdf only contains all of the EVEN pages, not any of the ODD pages. Very strange. The "Preview" even contains ALL of the pages and looks perfectly accurate before I save the PostScript File.
What am I doing wrong? It seems like the PostScript File option is what everyone is recommending in other forum posts on making booklet pdf's, but it's not working for me.Not being very familiar with the Mac OS this is a complete shot in the dark but have you made sure that the PPD when you print to a postcript file is set to using the Adobe PDF PPD?

My suspicion would be imageFrameHierarchy->Remove. I have no idea what that code is supposed to do (why import the image and then delete it again..., presumably something else happening that has been cut from the code sample), but I would use a command there instead.

I am using Indesign CS4 in Mac OS X 10.6.2. I have done all the latest updates to Indesign.
I was trying to open and old .pmd Page Maker file that was created in a Windows version of Page Maker. I am not sure what version they were saved in. The file was created in July of 2006 if that helps.

It's been a long time since I was up to speed on PageMaker. The pmd file extension refers to Pagemaker 5, right? InDesign should be able to import the output of PM 6.5 and PM 7, but I've found that the PM6.5 import is usually pretty decent, while for some reason the PM7 import is flaky. This probably is a result of changes in the way the documents were build by the, ah, "designers," and has comparatively little to do with the abilities of ID to open PM files of various versions. PM5, however, can't be imported by InDesign, I think.
What happens when you try to open them? Does InDesign crash, or does it fail without an error message, or ??? More details, please.

Well, there's always the PDF2ID tool, but since PDF is an uneditable container format, the results of running a PDF through PDF2ID is not reliable. Sometimes you get something very much like the source document, but I've found that most often it is faster to rebuild from scratch. I didn't buy PDF2ID, but that is because my clients' bizarro formatting techniques break on conversion. A very simple document might come back a lot cleaner. -
Image text is missing in InDesign CS4

I am using InDesign CS4 with MAC OS X 10.5.8. I encountered a problem that the Text is missing in the eps image, when imported on InDesign document. Refer below screenshot.
I have used “Times New Roman” Type1 font in InDesign document. And for images I have used the same “Times New Roman” as OTF font. Refer below screenshots.

Here, I caught one more finding. If I save the image as Adobe Postscript as “Language Level 2”, I don’t have any text missing issue in InDesign document. But, if I save the image as “Language Level 3”, I found this missing text issue in the document. Refer below screenshots.

Further to my analysis, I found that when I load the job fonts in “Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5/Fonts”, we got this text missing issue. And the same job fonts, when I load in “Users/<user_name>/Library/Fonts”, it showing correct.

it appears i have a toggle set to "ON" and don't know how to turn it off. all my text is coming in with small caps instead of lower case no matter what font i choose. i can't find a setting for this. anybody know how to fix this? i'm using pse 2.0.

Hi All, In Oracle B2B when we click on Details in the Business report page we get a blank page, if we go back to a previous message and click on details the page is displayed fine, but when we try a more recent message we just get the blank page. res
