Pages '08 - Tables with Functions

Pages '08 does a much better job calculating and recalculating a currency sum in a table than does MS Word. With Pages you can draw a table, label, place functions and they will recalculate directly in Pages.
With MS Word, you have to set up the table in Excel and then link or enbed the Excel information in Word. Then when you want to update the information in Word, you have to update in Excel first, before it will update in Word.
I like Pages '08 where you update directly in Pages without having to use Numbers as a link or enbeded.
If anyone knows how to do what Pages '08 does, and can do the same in MS Excel, please let me know.

What you get is not surprising.
Th code used to rule tables in Pages is exactly the code used to rule a table in Numbers.
I just wish to add that you may do more complex things is you work in Numbers.
You may use the Numbers Sheet as a blank sheet of paper on which you may put everything:
text frames
paint objects
draw objects
tables which may be linked
This is the same kind of documents than those named Draw ones in AppleWorks with many added features, bells and whistles
The only missing feature (at least from my point of view) is a tool allowing us to import AppleWorks Draw documents in these Numbers ones.

Creating a function based index creates a hidden virtual column (you'll see it if you query user_tab_cols) and once you index a virtual column you can no longer shrink the table:orcl> create table t1(c1 number,c2 as (c1 * 2)) segment creation immediate;

orcl>so the issue is not with function based indexes per se, it is a level beneath that. Perhaps because the virtual column has no physical existance, when the row is moved there is no reason for Oracle to realize that an index needs updating? I haven't attempted to reverse engineer this, I would be interested to know if anyone else has.

How to display data in table with dynamic rows, section wise in a page.

I work on report creation in BI Publisher where I need to display data from xml in a table in pdf format.The output page is divided into two vertical sections , containing tables, with exactly same columns on left and right sections. The number of rows in table depends on the output of the fetching query. The page is to be populated in such a way that, at first, the left table is populated, then the next rows fill up the table on the right section of the page, if more rows are left, they fill up the tables on next page[first the left table, and then the right one, in a similar fashion as in page 1]
On a bird's eye view, the data needs to be simply mapped to a table, with dynamic number of rows, and so can span number of pages depending on size of data. On a implementation level, I am stuck in getting the left section of the page populated first, then the right section[in place of the right page], and then the next page.
Please guide me if someone has any idea in getting this achieved.

I am able to get the desired functionality. I just need the tables to be inside a bigger table, that also has a dividing line between the two columns. This is was is intended in the req. provided to me. The column formatting option provides me a line ,but that is not further modifiable .Please help me in getting a perpendicular line between the two columns, which I need to be of a specified width and color.

Problem with dg4msql and table-valued functions

Have configured dg4msql to connect from my oracle db to ms sql server.
Am able to do simple SELECTs from ms sql tables like:
select * from "sys"."procedures"@dg4msql;
or
select * from "dbo"."SomeTable"@dg4msql;
But am unable to do a SELECT from a table-valued function:
select * from "dbo"."GetData"@dg4msql('param1value');
or
select * from "dbo"."GetData"('param1value')@dg4msql;
In both cases I get:
ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
It does not like the parameters portion of the query ("('param1value')")
initdg4msql.ora:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=[svr1]//mydb
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=OFF
HS_FDS_PROC_IS_FUNCT=TRUE
HS_FDS_RESULTSET_SUPPORT=TRUE
Have tried the other set of params:

Same story. After changing the init*** file have bounced both Listeners (DB and Gateway), reconnected, and re-run the query.
Have I missed something?

Somewhere in this forum I've seen a message that the syntax "SELECT ... FROM sp@db(param1, param2)" works.
Anyway, even with the PL/SQL block the error message is the same - ORA-00933 "SQL command not properly ended"
and the cursor (* in SQL*PLUS) is put just at the first bracket.

The laptop's too far away from the router to be connected by ethernet. It's all wifi.
No separate server app on the laptop, it's all samba
The files are on a windows laptop and a hard drive hooked up to the windows laptop. The windows share server is pants, so I'd need some sort of third party server running. Maybe you weren't suggesting to use Samba to connect to the windows share though?
I'm glad that you've all understood my ramblings and taken and interest, thanks The way I see it, I can't be the only netbook user these days looking for this kind of convenience, and I certainly won't be once chrome and moblin hit the market.

How do I move a table with radio buttons to another page?

I created a document in Word, converted to PDF, added a page (which was created in Adobe Forms Central, only way to get a table with radio buttons - see below for example).
The issue I have is whilst using the Trial of Adobe XI Pro I was able to move this table up a page and place it under the header. Now that the trial has run out I cannot complete this task with other documents.
I started to edit using LiveCycle but it won't let me move the table.
We have Acrobat X Pro but when I go to edit, it directs me to edit in LiveCycle. I have tried moving the table using all of these programs. Can anyone help/guide please?

Thank you for your reply. I am new to editing a pdf and using these programs. I have subscribed to Acrobat XI Pro. When I try to edit the document it directs me to LiveCycle. I cannot move the table in LiveCycle. It won't let me, and I cannot make changes in XI Pro as I did in the trial as it directs me to edit in LiveCycle. Am going in circles.

I can no longer tab between cells in a table with pages 5.0.

I use pages everyday for filling in my work booking sheets. I need to have them synching to the cloud, so I can access the client information while on the road.
My booking sheet is basically a large table with many cells for name, address, phone number, etc. In pages 4.3 I could enter some information into the cell, hit the tab button, and it would go straight to the next cell in the table. This was a quick and easy way for me to fill out my forms on the computer.
Well, since the update, the tab button only moves the cursor over in the same cell, as opposed to the next cell. It is VERY rare to need to tab in a cell, as opposed to going to the next cell.
I did figure out that I could Option+ Tab to move to the next cell, but it is very hard to change my procedure of tabbing after all this timing doing it the other way.
Am I just missing a preferance to tab between cells, instead of inside a cell?

Option-tab makes sense and can be done with the left hand's thumb/forefinger.
Using tab was always arse-backwards as it defeated the use of tab within the table cell.
Best to use both for what they always do:
Option tab or an arrow key (singular) to jump cells
tab to jump to the next tab in the text wherever it is within or without cells.
The contrary precedence was set by Microsoft and was a bad idea. In good UI you do not have shortucts reverse roles such that you need to pay excessive attention to the context.

I have created RFC function that upload data into SAP table. RFC Function contains one table that has same structure as my database table.
In the data services how can i filled the table of RFC function, i am using this function in query transform of data services but it gives me error.

Hi Abhishek,
Did you import the function module in the SAP datastore first? When you open the SAP datastore, the function should be listed in the 'functions' section. If not, import it. Make sure your function is remote executable.
Once the function is there, you can use it in a transformation. In 'Schema Out' right-click on 'Query' (top level) and choose 'New Function Call'. You can then select a datastore and a function in the datastore. The wizard will show you which output parameters are available. I believe you have to add at least one and can select as many as you like.
After confirming your selection the function and the output parameters appear in Schema Out. You can then right-click on the function and choose 'Modify function call'. A popup will appear where you can specify the input parameters.

Form on a Table with Report, 2 Pages

I have a view and i am using this to create a page as follows for insert/update/delete .
(1) create application from scratch
(2) on page 1 using wizard choice "Form on a Table with Report, 2 Pages"
(3) Follows the screens and create the 2 page where first page is a report and when i click on edit(in my case) it goes to next page for insert/update/delete.Everything like insert/update/delete works fine .
Now this view has say three columns
(1) element_type_id
(2) element_name
(3) yesnoflag
changing element_name and yesnoflag column is ok but then i need to have element_type_id corresponding to the element_name from some other table.
Question1
How should i get the element_type_id corresponding to the element_name .so when i create a new record it goes to page 2 and i can provide LOV for element_name and enter into yesnoflag, how can i get the element_type_id populated corresponding to the element_name entered.
Question2
Also in my application i have name element_type_id as primary key .I am not sure if thats a good idea or should i make element_name as primary key ?
please help.

hey rui--
by "adjust your html", i simply meant that you should look at your page, think about the html that's being used, and adjust it as necessary to make your data wrap as desired. now that i'm pretty sure i understand your issue, i can tell you the adjustment. you're saying that your form shows your long column "correctly" with data broken up onto separate lines by carriage returns or linefeeds. when you display that same data in your report, those carriage returns ( chr(13) ) and/or linefeeds ( chr(10) ) aren't observed. that's because they don't mean much in regular html. two ways to approach this would be:
a) replace your carriage returns with explicit <br> tags to get the breaks that you want...
select test_id, replace(test_description,chr(13)) test_desc from my_table;
b) wrap your column with <pre> tags to preserve all the original formatting of your data...
select test_id, '<pre>'||test_description||'</pre>' test_desc from my_table;
...and you could, of course, do option B in your report row template if you'd like.

Table with add and remove row function

i want to have table that function like exactly like email table in yahoo or hotmail or any. the last column will have the checkbox an there is a button that reside on the top of the table that is used to delete all the checked data. i have tried to use AbstractTableModel with the data of type object[] but i don't know how to make the addRow and removeRow. can anyone help me i'm stuck!

Just use DefaultTableModel, use addRow method for add row, and use removeRow method to remove a row.
Just loop your all table rows, get value at first column like:
for( int i = 0; i < tableModel.getRowCount(); i++ ){
    //i assume you have checkbox in first columun of your table
    Boolean isSelected = ( Boolean )tableModel.getValueAt( i, 0 );
    if( isSelected.booleanValue() ){
        tableModel.removeRow( i );

What do you mean for "destination"? Another SAP system e.g. an RFC destination?
And what kind of table do you need to copy? Ztables? Standard Tables?
If you mean Standard Tables, your task isn't a safe procedure.

In that case the class Record should be "comparable" as you said.
You can replace the current collection by an ordered list/set, and then implement the interface Comparator.
This is an example:
