Hi!

Of course also pages 09 doesn't open, this is pages 5 format.

One thing Pages does which Pages '09 doesn't do is Right to Left text such as Arabic.

Well, standard things to try include testing: (1) in a different User account (e.g., Guest), (2) after starting up in Safe Mode.

You aren't likely to get an answer with that type of attitude. BTW, you are not contacting Apple on these forums. We are all volunteer end users just like you. If you want support, then call AppleCare and you can get one-on-one assistance.

  • Pages 2.0.2 doesn't open Pages documents from ipad

Pages 2.0.2 doesn't open Pages documents from ipad 2. Document succesfully transferred as Pages document to computer, but Pages 2.0,2 wouldn;t open it. Version too old?

Pages 2 is iWork '06, two versions behind what the iOS Pages creates. You need to use Pages '09 which you can purchase from the Mac App Store as a stand-alone application or a retail box of the iWork '09 suite.

  • HT1750 Pages, This document can't be opened because it's too old.  To open it, save it with Pages 09 first          still can't open pages document

I recently purchased a new Mac and I am having difficulty opening older Pages documents.
Pages, This document can't be opened because it's too old.  To open it, save it with Pages 09 first          still can't open pages document

Either you have access to Pages ’08 v3, Pages ’09 v4, or neither. One of these older, but more functional versions of Pages can open, and export the document in question to Word. Preview on OS X 10.9.5 and Yosemite can view Pages ’08 documents (in my experience). It is not obvious to me that Preview may be using the installed Pages ’09 v4.3 to assist in opening these '08 documents.
Once opened in Preview, you can select/paste text into Pages v5.2.2, or v5.5. If you want the images from the PDF, then export it from Preview as PDF, and then drag/drop onto latest free LibreOffice icon in the Dock, which will open the PDF for editing. Select, copy, and paste the images into Pages v5, or incorporate into Text boxes, or Shapes. When pasted, images will be in their original size/resolution, not necessarily as small as they appear in the PDF.
If the second paragraph is a chore, then follow Peggy's advice above on the sources for purchase of Pages ’09.
In the future, I would not recommend trusting document architecture to Apple, and use a more accessible format (.doc/x) for better cross-platform access, longevity, and application choice. You may find LibreOffice, or Office for Mac 2011 a better choice for features.

Hi, App Store tells me I have installed the latest Pages update, yet it will not open Pages docs created on other machines that DO have the latest version . Any tips?

    Hi
    Pages 5.0 and 10.9.
While App Store tells me there is no update avalable to Pages, which it says was installed Nov. 4, its the old Avatar/logo thingo and, as I say, it will not open the Pages docs created on my MacBook, which definiitely does have the new Pages running smoothly.
    cheers

  • Mac won't open pages from iPad.

I have emailed a pages document from my ipad, saved it on my mac and it wont open. It always has before the latest IOS version was installed on the ipad.
It says i need a newer version and directs me to the app store.
Software is all up to date on the Mac
do i have to pay for a new version of pages? or should it be automatic to receive the new version so that the two are compatable?
    help please
    thanks

As the system is not reporting any new software for my Mac pages, does this mean it won't be compatable with my iPad pages?
And here is the kicker.... you need to update the whole Mac operating system first.
You need to be running OSX 10.9, once you have downloaded this 'free' update, then you need to update pages to Pages 5.0
Once this is done, then you can 'easily collaborate' with the iPad.
What OS on the Mac are you running? (Check under the Apple drop down menu, then select "About this Mac")
And What version of Pages are you using (Check under the Pages drop down menu, then select "About Pages")
You need to be on OSX 10.9 and Pages 5.0
Sadly Apple decided not to warn iPad users that they were taking collaboration away unless you update every Apple product in one go.

  • Pages 5.0 won't open Pages files

OK, this is weird. Since upgrading to Mavericks with the free Pages 5.0 upgrade last week, all of my Pages files have been opening in Pages 5.0 just fine -- until today. An update dialog opened today November 4 2013 around 3pm saying there was a Pages update. We proceeded with the update and now any document that was opened and saved since the Mavericks update won't open as before. Instead an error dialog box appears stating "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document.". So I click "OK" and then  open the document using "Open With" and select Pages 5.0, which is now set as "default" and the file opens fine. I save the file in Pages 5.0. But the next time I go open it, it gives me the exact same stupid dialog box.
If I open a Pages file that has not been opened since the Mavericks update, it opens in Pages 09. If I select "Open With" and select the new "default" Pages 5.0 and save it in that version, the next time I open the file I get that same stupid dialog again: "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document."
What the he**? Am I going to have to use "Open With" for every single Pages 09 file that I want to open in Pages 5.0?

    I'm having a similar problem.
Running Pages 5.1 on my iMac and my MacBook Pro.
I can't open any Pages document on iCloud from my iMac, regardless of where that document was originally created (iMac, MBP, or iPad). I have tried File -> Open File... from within Pages, as well as by double-clicking the file within the iCloud folder in Finder. However, I can copy the file to my desktop via Finder, and then open it from my desktop. I can create a file in Pages on my iMac and save it to iCloud, but then I can't open it later.
However, I can open any Pages document on iCloud from my MacBook Pro without any problem - including the ones that won't open on the iMac.

  • Pages error -1712 won't open, pages error -1712 won't open

Help.  Pages suddenly won't open.   Shows error -1712.   What's happened?

Open Activity Monitor located in /Applications/Utiliites
Select 'View' then 'My Processes' in the menubar across the very top of your screen.
Type Pages in the search field top right corner of the Activity Monitor window.
Now select the application Pages (it should say 'not responding') and click the force quit button that looks like a stop sign with an x in it.
    >You should now be able to relaunch Pages.
Force Quitting within Activity Monitor is a quick and efficient way to handle most Applications "Not Responding" or seeming not to open with error -1712.
Just be aware that you may lose any unsaved work by force quitting an application.
It can also work great for an Application that "Freezes" and is giving the spinning beach ball

  • Mac won't open pages in browsers. Chrome and Firefox won't open any pages - Safari will only open a selected few.

I've had some strange browser issues, with Conduit being added to Chrome (which I've tried to remove via the browser settings). Chrome will open my Gmail account but no ther pages. Firefox won't open anything. Safari opens a few pages (this forum thankfully) but is very selective.
Google is returning results to me via Google.es rather than Google.co.uk
I can use all browsers freely on other devices on home network (although Google.es has popped up on my iPhone now). I've run anti-virus software which hasn't picked up any problems. I've tried uninstalling Chrome and Firefox, but am unable to do so.
Any help or guidance would be really, really appreciated.

  • Safari won't open page due to certificate error

I incorrectly clicked on something when opening a new page and now the page won't open anymore.  The error I get is "the server "shop.rcbs.com" did not accept the certificate".  How do I fix this?

The site requires you to have a certificate issued by the site operator for access. You don't have that certificate. Contact the site operator about getting one.

  • Safari won't open pages

Yesterday Safari simply quit opening pages. Any of them. Even the most common, like Yahoo or Apple.com. I'll get the colored spinning wheel and then it times out. I've added no new software or made any updates to any. I've tried resetting it, clearing all cache, running an ESET security scan, all to no avail. I've since downloaded Opera, which works just fine. Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • URL Links won't open pages in browser

Hi, I'm in a Connect session right now, and every time I try to open a link (via a shared powerpoint, or using "Browse To" in a Web Links object, or clicking a url in a chat window) instead of opening a browser page the system tries to download the HTML file and open it for editing.  I'm sure this has something to do with a Flash or Connect setting, but I can't find where to look.  And I can't use the in-Connect Help, because it won't open!    If anyone can help me figure out what's wrong and how I can fix it I'd really appreciate it.

  • Pages 8 launches but won't open files

I've purchased the family pack iWorks 8 and installed it on 3 of my macs. Two work flawlessly but my older G4 desktop is a problem. Numbers and Keynote work so far, but Pages doesn't. When I launch the program, it won't open a new file or any existing files; the "open" dialog box appears for a split second, then closes. It just sits there looking at me--useless and taunting. Any ideas?
I have a 1.4 GHz Sonnet processor upgrade: Might that be the problem?
After looking through more than 60 pages of topics without seeing anything similar, I'm not holding out much hope.

I just opened Console.app and then tried again to open Pages 8. One of the many strings of info regarding the opening of Pages reads: 12/7/07 2:30:20 PM Pages[614] * +[NSString stringWithCString:]: NULL cString .
This is clearly a problem and one for which I haven't the technical skills to manage. Any suggestions?

  • Pages 09 (4.3) won't open iCloud Pages 5 docs

Hi all. I'm running Pages 09 (4.3) on my MacBook Pro and Pages 5 on my iPad. The Mac won't open documents created on the iPad: it tells me I need a newer version. When I open the App Store, it says 'installed' and there's no option for a newer version (is there one?).
    Any ideas? Thanks,
    Aidan

If you are running the newest iOS version of Pages on your iPad, then only Pages 5.0 (Mavericks) can open those documents on your Mac.
    Apple designed it this way.
Your only option is to EXPORT from your iPad version of Pages into a format from which you can then IMPORT on your Mac running pages 4.3.
