Pages 5.0 (2013 Mavericks) Table of Contents loses page links when exported to PDF

I'm using the new Pages 5.0 in Mavericks.  I have a TOC with page numbers that link to the sections in my document.  The links work fine in Pages.  When I export the document to PDF, the page numbers are no longer links.
I tried the same in Pages '09 (which I still have on my computer) and the links work fine after exporting to PDF.
Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5 and introduced a swag of bugs.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • InDesign Table of Contents won't display once exported to pdf

    Hello,
I am creating user manuals using Indesign books with CS5. When I export the book, I can view everything perfectly. But when I open the same file from a different computer, I get a message saying:
"An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the pdf document to correct the problem."
And two pages are blank - the table of contents. If you hover the cursor over the blank pages, the cursor changes and indicates the hyperlinks, and the hyperlinks still work, but since you can't view the text it's not very helpful.
Both computers are using Acrobat 9.
    Any ideas?

I systematically removed elements from the pages in turn and I think I've found the issue. I have a header/footer created in illustrator on the master pages for all the documents in the book, and when I remove it from the Table of Contents, it shows up just fine. Odd that it doesn't affect the other pages.
Thanks for your quick responses. Consider the problem solved.

  • Pages changes the page size when exporting to pdf

When exporting a pages document (size 8.5w x 7.0h) to pdf it changes the size to (8.5w x 11.0h) any suggestions on exporting it correctly.
If not is there a way to resize it once it is a pdf or other software to convert it correctly?
I am using Pages 09  with Lion 10.7.1

    Hi Christine
    I am in the process of writing a doc on the different options in CR and the "No Printer" option sis one of those. Seeing this post, made me wonder as this looked like a questionable behavior. My testing does not support your observations. Now, I did a very simple test;
Created a report, set "No Printer", set the paper size and legal orientation. Exported to XLS - any format, and the export maintained legal paper size in all instance. I did a few other variations, but I can never get the report to export anything other than Landscape.
Can you  please let me know the version of CR you are using?
You may also want to attach the report here with saved data (to attach rename the rpt to txt, then in the reply hit on the "Use advanced editor" link and attach.
BTW.; I am using CR 2013.

  • Page arrangement when exporting to PDF

Whenever I layout pamphlets that will be printed on 8.5x11 paper, I set up 5.5x8.5 facing pages, and then do each page so that they go back and forth down the line until i get to the centerfold, where they then go back up the line back and forth filling in empty pages. Does that make sense? So, I do this all the time, and when I export to PDF, the PDF always shows each pair of facing pages as a single page to be printed on one side of a sheet of 8.5x11 paper. But for some unknown reason (I haven't updated any of my programs, as my computer is too old to do that) when I exported to PDF, both Reader and Acrobat open the PDF up with each individual page by itself, one above the other, until I go into "View" and select Page Display, and then Two-up. But I wanna know why it's displaying it differently, and if there's a way I can make it always display the way it used to instead of this new way.

You might find this a lot easier if you set up as 5.5 x 8.5 facing pages and worked in reader's spreads (consecutive order). That way you get to look at the layout as your readers will be seeing it, and there's less chance of making an imposition mistake. The first and last pages will be by themselves and the others will appear as spreads, just as they will in the booklet.
When you are ready to print, use File > Print Booklet... to set up the imposition. Your tags indicate CS3, though you don't mention the OS, so I don't know if the Adobe PDF virtual printer is available to you, but if you are printing in-house on a laser printer with duplexing capabiliies it isn't required as you can print directly to the device. Printing to PDF is a convenience that will allow you to manually duplex. If you need the PDF, and cannot print to the virtual printer, there are some scripts you can use to impose the booklet instead of Print Booklet, so let us know.

  • Preserving links when exporting to PDFs from Pages 5.1

Several people have noted that links do not survive after the first page of a PDF document when exporting from a Pages 5.x document to PDF.  *IF* the links are dislayed as html code, they will survive: e.g.
    html://www.apple.com
will work on all pages of the PDF document (anyway, it works on page 2!)
But if you edit the link and CHANGE THE DISPLAY NAME, the links will no longer work on page 2 and subsequent pages.  E.g., this link will NOT work even though it resolves to the same address (i.e., html://www.apple.com).
    apple.com
This is insane, of course.  Any work arounds?

Right, I know it will work if you don;t edit the display name.  But one often will want to do that. If you were writing a column, say, you might say "In Dick Francis's novel Refusal, the author soes thus and such." That link is clickable. It would work natively in Pages 5, as in Pages 4.3, in a TextEdit document natively or exported to PDF, and in Apple mail, etc.  It also works when you export from Pages 4.3 to PDF.  In Pages 5, however, it only works (after the first page: who knows why it works on the first page!) if the display name is the same as the html code.  This is a bug, or sloppy programming, or both.
I like Page 4.3 quite a lot. I has its limitations but it is simple without being simplistic.  I had high hopes for Pages 5. Now that we have 5.1, though, I see that it is just not going to work for me or for my businesses. There are little things like the inability to set the default zoom (which is acutally quite annoying if your eyes are not so hot), the inabilty to see|print comments and big things like the lack of Applescript support, bookmarks, and mail merge.  I thought Apple was going to be bringing back these features, but I see now that they are committed to the lowest common denominator. The people who say Apple is is the business of making "toys" are, alas, correct. I guess the business market is not big enough for them. I've actually removed pages 5.1 from all our our macs, and have removed 2.1 from our ios devices. We still have a few stray documents that were created or edited with Pages 5, but I've discovered that you can use Pages for icloud to download a pages file in Word format.  Pages 4.3 can open and edit Word files, so that is a (cumbersome) workaround. We'll continue to use 4.3 (and 1.7.2 on the ipad) for the time being, but obviously will need to find something that has current support going forward.

  • Dissappearing page number when exporting to PDF

    Hi there!
I encountered a problem exporting an Indesign booklet to PDF.
I created a basic layout, using 2 masters.
I included page numbers (on master) and that is where the problem starts.
The page numbers are visible on every page in indesign.
But when I export to PDF, the page numbers on the left pages of the booklet disappear.
The numbers on the right pages are exactly where they are supposed to be.
I don't know where to start searching since I'm rather unexperienced in Indesign.
    Anyone? Thanks!
    NIX75

    Version? OS?
There are some known issues with master items disappearing in early releases of CS4. They should be fixed in the 6.0.4 update.
If that isn't your problem, please post back with more details. A screen shot of the are where the number is located would help, too.

  • Page order when exporting a PDF

    Hi,
Is there a possibility in ID CS4 to export a book with cover page (odd page number) into a PDF where the pages would be displayed correctly when showed in pairs? Actually the cover page (1) is displayed facing page number 2, instead of having 1 alone, then 2-3, 4-5 etc.
If I delete 1 in the PDF or add a blank page, the pages are showed correctly but then the page numbers are wrong. Is there a way to remedy this?
    regards,
    Paul

    >File>Properties...you can set the initial view there and then save the file.
Oh, excellent! Thanks Bob, that's really helpful.

  • Retain multi-page layout when exporting to PDF

I have created a multi-page layout, I want to export this to PDF but retain the multi-page view so the client can easily understand how it will look. Currently it exports to single pages rather than the nice 3 page spread I have created.

Actually it seems it doesn't need to be created as facing pages, as long as you have the doc set not to shuffle and you've dragged the pages together into a single unit. Check the "Spreads" box in the export dialog.

  • Missing page header when exporting a Numbers sheet to PDF??

    I am running OS X 10.8.5 and Numbers 09 Version 2.3, all on a 2009 MBP.
I created a simple table and have a page header (title, etc).
When I print this file directly from Numbers to the printer, everything is okay.
But when I export the file to PDF and print the PDF, the header is gone.
    Any thoughts?

I have done some addtional problem solving. I now have the issue isolated to the export function. It does not export the page header when exporting to PDF. It does do it when exporting to file type - post script.
    Interesting.
Anybody got something to add here?

  • Can't Choose Page Range when Exporting PDF from InDesign

Hi!  Ever since I upgraded to CS6 via your subscription, I can't choose a page-range when exporting to PDF from InDesign (8.0.1).  Here's a video demonstration of the problem so you can see the bug in action:  http://screencast.com/t/kYR1ACtNi
Are you aware of this bug?  If it's not a bug, how do I fix it?

Alternate layouts are used for things like horizontal and vertical orientations of the same layout for use on tablets. I suspect there's some coverage in the Help files -- being a print guy I don't mess with them.
It may be that you only have one layout and ID just shows you that one inthe dropdown. I can't recall that I ever used the dropdown to try to select the range -- I always just type what I need in the field.

  • Why does IBA not include the table of contents when exporting to PDF?

Why does IBA not include the table of contents when exporting in PDF? I can seee the TOC in iBooks Author but when I want to see what it looks like in a regular PDF, the TOC does not show up.

Strange question you ask here. Not sure why that is relevant to "why" IBA won't publish a table of contents in a PDF.
But since eyou asked, it's simple, I want to author some books in IBA and also see what they look like - completed - in PDF. Again, any suggestions as to a work around so I don't have to cut and paste back into Pages?

  • Pages Missing During Export as PDF

I've been working on a long document in InDesign. It is a book that is comprised of about +200 documents. Each of these documents includes photos and text, along with a header and summary paragraph style. These paragraph styles are used to create a table of contents. The table of contents gives me the correct page numbers for each of the files, but when I export the PDF, after a certain chapter, the table of contents no longer links directly to those articles. It appears that 1-2 pages is missing from each of the documents after a certain document. I only have 1 layer, I have used the same 1 master slide for each document. I originally created the document using 1 default style and then re-saving that file as different file names as each document was created. The end result is that the page count for the document at the bottom corner is in the neighborhood of 1200 pages but the actual PDF file is only 1016 pages.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? I have absolutely no clue where to look for a solution. (As per Adobe's customer support, I did remove a folder in the App Data section)
Edit: I forgot to include; when I export the individual documents to PDF that have missing pages, they export without missing pages. The issue only happens when exporting the documents as a book.

    Hi Lukas
You can quickly test this by creating a document with bit of text. Then move (you don't want to delete it) the selected font away from system's font repository. When you open the document again, you will be warned about the missing font.
So InDesign already does checkings for you. The default Export tool also checks for missing fonts for you. If you are doing a custome export, you might need to implement your own.

  • Problem with subscript and superscript in tables when exporting in .pdf

When I put some words in superscript (or subscript) in a table, a bug occurs when exporting in pdf (whit export or print either). All the words in the cell after the subscript part disappear in the pdf version. The rest of the table or the document isn't affected. It's really strange and it has occured since I shifted for the 5 version of Pages...

It is a long standing bug in Pages 5.
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

Set up the Preflight panel so it checks image resolution. Ask your printer what the appropriate resolution is for your printing process, and set that in Preflight.
