Pages 5.0 Auto-capitalization?

Dispite of the fact that I really love the awesome apperance of Pages 5.0, I really feel very very very disapointed that Apple development team for Pages decided to take away some of the costomization options, e.g., the option to set "auto-capitalization" up along with some others. I believe that an "update" should be meant to add more 'costomization" options not take them away. In my case, I write many pages for my college assignments and I do not like to waste time Adding capitalized letters when the app itself could and should do it for me! I decided to switch back to Microsoft until and if Apple evelopment team in charge of this app decides to fix the problem. Now, my question is; have any of you guys find a way to fix this issue or downgrade to the previous version of Pages? if so, I would love to hear about that. Thanks in advance.

The list of removed and altered features in Pages 5 is very long:

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Trash or archive Pages 5 and review/rate it in the App Store.

  • How do I enable "auto-capitalization" on Pages 5.2?

I'm still used to Microsoft Word which would capitalize for me, at the beginnings of sentences, proper nouns, etc. Pages must have have it, right?

The auto-capitalization feature still does not exist in Pages as of v5.2. It does exist in Pages ’09 v4.3, a prior release, that if you had it installed, the Pages v5 install would have moved it to /Applications/iWork ’09 folder.
The freeware Devon Technologies WordServices Service suite of tools has a feature that for all selected text, it will perform the auto-capitalization feature for you. This does work in Pages v5.2. Its either Pages ’09, the shift key after full stop punctuation, or the WordServices tool. For now.

    * Where have they acknowledged anything?
** They have barely anything listed, compared to the massive list of deleted features, and nothing but an extraordinarily long time frame considering they created the problems here and now. Apple has not said they will do anything at all about fixing the real issues, the biggest of which is that the new iWork apps break virtually all the work of existing users.

How to get the first word in a sentence to auto-capitalize
    Anwar

something to look forward to then, because we get used not to use our shift button any more, since iPhone and iPad do it for us. entourage and other ms stuff do it. pages does it too now (put it on in the auto-correct in preferences). bizarre however some loose the capitalization when you copy the text. pages to stickies or mail does not. that's good !

  • Stop auto-capitalization after i.e. or e.g.

anyone have an idea how to stop auto-capitalization after typing "i.e." or "e.g."?
I would like to retain the auto-capitalization for starting sentences.
    Thanks!

I don't see that behavior on my Mac.
Really? So in Pages > Preferences > Autocorrection, you have the box for Fix Capitalization checked, and when you type something like " i.e. the" you do not wind up with" i.e. The" as soon as you hit the space key?

  • How do I stop auto-capitalization?

I have seen threads where people are complaining about auto-capitalization in certain applications. For me, it does it system-wide, all applications.
I have gone to Edit > Spelling and Grammar and unchecked all options. It doesn't matter what I do, it ALWAYS auto-capitalizes the first word after a Return. Doesn't matter if I am in Pages, Evernote, TextEdit, whatever.
I also went to System Preferences>Keyboard>Text and unchecked "Correct spelling automatically. Didn't fix the problem.
Anyone have a fix for this issue?
    Gary

Thank pmiles. I found that TextExpander was the culprit. I've had it installed for about a year but it just started doing this recently. Anyway, I found the preference option that had been turned on. Fixed it and it's all good now. Thanks again.

  • Mavericks won't auto capitalize "I" on system level.

Hi there. I just upgraded to a new machine and installed Mavericks on it. My issue is that while typing, Mavericks won't auto capitalize the letter "I" even with the "Correct Spelling Automatically" and text replacement options enabled. I am NOT using Pages. This is happening on any text box. It also seems that "I'm" will sometimes auto correct and sometimes not. I know it's a minor annoyance, but any help would be appreciated.

Ditto here! Notes app, Mail app, basically any app will not capitalise "i", even when writing this message!!! OS X also does not capitalise the "i" in "i'm", or "i've"
Can any OS X experts out there offer any suggestions. A work-around i've done was to create a shortcut in the keyboard settings so that when i type "ii" it will auto convert to an "I", its just that i sometimes forget and have to go through my whole document correcting any and all "i"'s. I also need to do the same with "i'm" and "I've". Very annoying.
    Many thanks

  • How to turn on auto capitalization on my mac?

    Hey guys,
I want to know how to turn on auto capitalization on my mac. Because this helps me to type faster in pages, keynote, etc.
    Could y'all help me out?

because Apple has most of its products, phones tablets and software that start with small letters despite being proper nouns, in Apple's world it's normal to use small letters for proper nouns and start sentences with small letters.
you will have to get used to the shift button and get a bit slow on your typing. after some time you'll get used to it.
this does sound frustrating but i agree with other users that the fact that you are using an expensive Mac does not relegate you to inferior word processors. go ahead and install office for Mac and enjoy!

  • Frustrating auto capitalization quirk

I have noticed the most annoying quirk over the last few weeks on my Mac mini. When I start typing, the first letter of every line is automatically capitalized. I do not use Pages, nor do I have this feature turned on in Word.
It is especially frustrating when using Coda, Sublime Text and Terminal. After typing the first two characters, I'm forced to backspace and start over, since I don't want capital letters in code editors. Terminal continually says that my password is incorrect, and I'm guessing it's due to this auto capitalization.
I would be really grateful if anyone can offer a suggestion to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for your response. I'll remove my log in items and re-enable them one at a time and try to find the culprit.
Sorry, I accidentally clicked the 'this helped me' on my own message.
