Pages 5.0 won't open existing Pages '09 docs

Upgraded to Mavericks and updated Pages. However, new Pages 5.0 won't let me open older existing Pages documents saved on my Mac. However, it will open Pages documents saved in iCloud. When attempting to open Pages docs on my Mac, I get the following error message:
How do I get around this? Do I have to dig around and find my old iWorks disk and reinstall Pages '09?

Sorry to be "that guy", but i've done that without an issue, I can now add pages by copying previous ones, but now Pages 4.3 groups a new page which is blank, with page 13. It also adds a the copy of the last page below the two that get grouped together. So basically, I end up with 2 copys of page 13, and the original.

I noticed yesterday that Pages and Numbers won't open existing documents.
I've tried to reinstall software, but no luck.
I've done no changes to my system, other than installing updates that have been made available.
I run iWork '09 on a MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010, with OSX 10.7.3.
I can view the documents in preview, but I really need them to work as they are work-related.
What to do?

Pages '09 won't open my AWK or DOC files

I've bought iWork '09 to future proof myself against the day I finally have to abandon a computer running Snow Leopard + Rosetta (I can still run AppleWorks and Word 2001 on my present machine but that won't always be the case).
However, now I'm beginning to regret it. Every document from AppleWorks 6 or Word 2001 (or Word 97 onwards ".doc" saved by TextEdit) will not open in Pages. I get a message, "The document __________ cannot be opened". I've tried both dragging the files onto the Pages icon in the dock, and by using Open in Pages.
Yet Pages will open a Simple Text document (albeit with a lot of "garbage" where the formatting was), and it opens TextEdit RTF documents, and I can grab and insert any jpeg into it.
But I bought the suite on the grounds that it will open AW6 and Word .doc files ... yet it won't! What has gone wrong?

Pages on Mavericks won't open downloaded Google Drive docs

How can I force Mavericks to let Pages open downloaded Google Drive docs?
I installed Mavericks and then reverted back to iWork 09 but Pages now won't open files in .docx format that I download from Google Drive.
I get error:
The document “5TThinkPiece.docx” couldn’t be opened.
This is one of the biggest #firstworldproblems I can imagine; if Mavericks isn't comptatible with Google Drive then the Mac has to go, because Gdrive > Computer.

I had the same problem, but fixed it.
Having bought the CD-ROM with iWork way back updates for this does not appear automatically in Mavericks App Store. However, after downloading the update for iWork here:

I have version 5.3 now. I created the file in this version and it worked a few days ago? No changes, no updates. I go to install the latest version and my computer says it's already installed. ???? I already did all my updates for this computer. Now it won't open any of my keynote files that have been previuosly created, only new ones.

Encore CS5 won't open existing or new project

I had Encore CS5 on a mac crash while transcoding for a build, and now regardless of whether I choose the "open existing" or "create new" from the splash screen, the app crashes and gives the error [/Lassi/Main/Transcode/build/build/mac/../../../src/AMEPresetProber.cpp-265]. Are there any options other than re-installing from the original discs and doing all the updates?

I would try the preferences reset etc.

Ipad won't open Word documents without .doc appended

My ipad won't open word documents attached to emails that don't have .doc appended, however my iphone does this flawlessly. Is this normal?

Mine won't either. I was wondering if it had something to do with installing the pages app. My attachments with .doc are showing as pages docs.

Pages won't open existing documents or let me create new ones

My Pages application will open, but when I try to type, nothing comes up. When I open an existing file, nothing appears, just a blank document in which I cannot edit. I haven't changed anything with my computer. This application was working fine a couple of days ago.

Here's another version of Peggy's instructions for getting to the file:
Quit Pages.
Go to Finder.
In Finder, press and hold the option key
   go to the Go menu and choose Library
   release the option key (after making the choice above).
In the Finder window that opens:
   Locate and open the folder: Preferences
      Locate and select the file: com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
With the file selected, press command-delete to move it to the Trash.*
Restart Pages.

An item in the trash may be recovered by dragging it out of the Trash. It is not 'deleted' until the Trash is emptied (Finder menu).

InDesign1.5 / Windows7 / won't open existing files

'Cannot open the file "bn66y.indd". InDesign may not support the file format, or a plug-in that supports the file formay may be missing.'
I have been using InDesign1.5 for some years on an XP system, and recently on one under XPx64 with no problems. I've now got Windows7 running [on the same machine as I have been using for XPx64]. InDesign will create and save new files and open them, but will not open any of the files I created while using XP. The above dialog is all I get.

Taking something of a shot in the dark here. The earlist version of ID I started using was version 3 or CS running on XP Pro at the time. As I've never used ID 1.5, I cannot vouch for its performance on XP / XP 64.
As for Win 7, you may have run into an upgrade brick wall. Old software can do odd things on a new OS. Anything from not installing to issues you are experiencing.
An upgrade to CS4 is probably in order, or is this out of the question?

Won't open existing email acounts, keeps asking to setup new account on well established system.

I have returned for a long trip (2 months) and when I start Thunderbird I can see, in the menu, the 5 accounts I have setup but with two exceptions it asks to set up a new account. The system has been working for several years but is not standard ie the different email accounts are all in different folders on a NAS server, hotmal is not but only setup as a test recently.
I have checked that the profile.ini file is there and is given below, the two profiles that works are
Fred Work (Profile 3) but is not connected to a live server as it is really an archive of my last work and the actual IMAP email is dead.
Hotmail (Profile 4) that appears full functional.
The various paths refereed to are present on the server that is still Y drive and all other file access to other programs works.
Have tried opening in offline mode.

Have you tried doing 'get info' on the Dreamweaver application icon and checking what permissions are set? It sounds as if the application may have been set to 'system' ownership somehow with all other users and groups set to no access. If so the only way to change it is to log in as root.

If you like, you could send me a project file that won't open. I'll check it on my system and we can eliminate the possibility that the project files have been corrupted. Me email is in my profile. Be sure and compress project file before attaching to email (control click on file and choose "compress." this will create a zipped version of the file that's suitable for attachment.).

Motion won't open/launch

Hello, I've seen other folks with this issue here but haven't been able to fix it yet.
I've just upgraded from an imac to a mac pro and reinstalled everything from a time machine backup. Now Motion won't launch/Final cut won't open existing files/I can't import Motion files in Final cut project.
Regarding motion: the program just fails to launch and I receive an alert. Opening the console and trying to launch I get this...

I used migration assistant.
I've also called tech support which suggested I reinstall so I did. Now everything seems to be running properly so far:-)
Thanks for your help, I've learned that migration assistant doesn't really help for FCS but still saved me time with my other programs.

Reader XI won't open docs

Was just forced to "upgrade" to Reader XI, now I it won't open any of my docs.
When clicking on a document, Reader opens, but not the document, then about 2-seconds later Reader XI closes itself.
I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it, same thing.
Tried docs stored on my hard drive, and some that was on my email server, doesn't matter.
I tried opening the reader from Start->Programs, but it refuses to start that way.
X- version worked great, now it's gone.
Machine is a Toshiba Satellite, I-7, 32-bit Windows-7.

I ran into this same problem and was able to solve the problem.
I'm using a laptop with NVIDIA video card and discovered that the NVIDIA Video Driver was somehow conflicting with Adobe Reader XI's EULA.exe program, which runs first time after install.
Problem: As Adobe Reader's EULA.exe ('End User Licence Agreement') never runs, you can never 'Agree to Terms and Conditions' of use, and Adobe XI shuts down, thinking you have 'Not agreed' to terms of use.
I had to go into Windows "Event Viewer" (Application Log View) to see that EULA.exe was "faulting" with the NVidia video driver. Error message will look something like this:
Faulting application name: Eula.exe, version: 11.0.0.379, time stamp: 0x505fc5b0
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\Eula.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\CoProcManager\nvdxgiwrap.dll
Anyway, "the fix":
I needed to install latest NVidia video driver to resolve this problem. Earlier in March (2013), Microsoft released a number of "Optional" Window 7 Hardware Driver updates. Among them was NVidia Video driver. After I installed the Microsoft recommended NVidia driver, Adobe Reader X (and Adobe Reader XI) both ran fine.    ie: The 'End User Licence Agreement' (EULA.exe) now runs the first time after install, I now say "Yes", "I accept the terms" and Adobe Reader XI runs fine.
This is the first time I've ever seen a Video driver cause a conflict with Adobe.
The easiest way to check for this update, Click on: Start --> All Programs --> Windows Update.
Then Click on "Optional Updates" and see if NVidia Video driver is among the recommended driver updates.   If "Yes", select it (click on check box), install it, reboot, and see whether this fixes the problem.
Alternately, go into Windows "Event Viewer" --> "Windows Logs" --> "Application",   and see whether there are any "Errors" (Red !'s) listed immediately after running Adobe Reader.
If you see an Error message reading something to the nature of:
Faulting application name   Eula.exe       ....and the name of the other application Adobe's EULA.exe is 'faulting' with,
check to see if you can download & install an update for the other problem application (or driver) causing the fault with EULA.exe, in the hope this fixes the problem.
Anyway, my own experiences with this one.

Pages won't open documents stored in iCloud

After a major crash of my iMac after installing Mavericks, I returned to my MacBook Air running Mountain Lion and installed Pages 9.0 (can't reinstall Mavericks on the iMac due to an extremely slow connection)
Now the problem:
Pages won't show me my previously saved Pages documents in iCloud under "Open existing files". (Actually, it won't even save new documents on iCloud).
For info:
"Documents and Date" is checked in iCloud system preferences.
All documents show in Finder under an alias folder I created of the Mobile Documents. But I can't open them.
Even "open with" will give me only Terminal as available app.
The only document that will open was a document created after the upgrade to Mavericks on the iMac...
Any ideas what is wrong?

Apple has created a new unified file format for:
Pages for iOS 2.0.1
Pages 5 for Mac OSX 10.9
iWork for iCloud beta
iCloud
Anything going through iCloud now gets converted to the new format.
Pages 5 only runs on OSX 10.9 and can open Pages '09 files but often damages them. It can not open Pages '08 files.
Pages 5 can export files back to Pages '09 but often with a much simpler format as Pages 5 is missing over 90 features.
Pages for iCloud beta uses the new Pages 5 format but lacks UI and many formatting tools.
Pages '09 can not open Pages 5 files at all.
Far from being a format for all it is a format for very few. It requires specific versions of all the software, running on only compatible hardware and operating systems.
I do recommend you stick with Pages '09 just to get your work done and that you do not update to OSX 10.9 Mavericks. This means not being able to transfer files back and forth via iCloud to your iPad. The best you will be able to do is Export to Word .doc and email that to yourself.
The whole arrangement is a rats nest of things going wrong. You are either stuck with the latest version of Pages with very few features, format that nothing else reads and all the bugs, or you use Pages '09 which works but will have it files screwed up by iCloud and can't swap files with the iPad version.
