Pages 5.1 Text box problems

In Pages 5.1 when I paste a graphic in a text box (e.g., a PNG file), it no longer stays in the text box. This was a great feature in Pages '09, the ability to paste a graphic into the text box, add figure legend text, and a line around the whole thing and have it remain as one unit.

If you still have Pages v4.n located in /Applications/iWork after the v5+ upgrade, I would recommend you revert to an old friend.
In v5, you insert the Text Box, then from the Format > Style > Fill, you choose Image Fill, Scale to Fit (or Fill), and then Choose.. to pick your image from disk. The Toolbar media choice will just plop an image over the top of your Text Box. Dragging and dropping an image over the Text Box places the image behind the Text Box. This can lead to an interesting crop effect.
If your image choice will be too dark to see the original black Text Box "Text" placeholder, then you may want to initially choose a lighter font before paragraph 2 above. Othewise, a double-click after the image fill will provide edit focus in the Text Box. A downside is that changing the opacity will effect the image and the text.

Text box problem or question

I'm having the text field problem. I have two text boxes (inside my .fla file) one i can add more text without the box expanding and can then select the text and croll down to view the missing text and the other one just gets longer the more text I add. I'm trying to duplicate the text box that does not expand the more text I add to it.
All the settings in the properties are the same on both and I've tried it in MX and CS3 and the both have the same properties in both.
I'm stumped can anyone help.

If you right click the textfield on the stage you can select the "scrollable" option for it. Another option to duplicate the textfield is to copy/paste it.

Dynamic text box problems

I have created a dynamic text box and an input text box.
I have produced code that replicates whatever is typed in the
input box to display in the dynamic box along with a date and time
stamp once a button is clicked.
This all works fine, except for the sizes of the fonts. for
both boxes, i selected font size 10 . The input box is fine,
however the dynamic box text is huge.
When i make the dynamic text font smaller, it fits in fine,
but the input text that is inserted into the dynamic text box comes
in too big. If i make the input text box font smaller it is
unreadable when typing it in.
any soultion to how to make my font consistent. I am assumin
the problem is because both the text boxes are different sizes,
however i don't know how to resolve the issue.
Any help is much appreciated.

chech if you have mistype the instance names of your
movieClip and rewrite it or in the Actions panel select the path "
mainClip.newspaper_mc.newinstructions" and click the button
"Insert Target Path" this will open a popup with a tree of your
MC's on the stage, so you can browse and find the textfield. i hope

How To Display Current Page Name in Text Box Titles?

 I have a report which uses a page dimension. When I print out the report, it does display the page dimension member in plain text, near the beginning of the report. But I would like to incorporate the current page value in the formatted report title, a text box. The "MemberAlias" command, for example, looks like this: (( MemberAlias("GridName", Row/Col/Page, "DimName") ) ) (substituting the less-than, greater-than symbols for parentheisis just for this web forum) If I put a number in as the second element in the function, that hard-codes the report to print the page 1 value on each page of the printout. Unfortunately, Reports doesn't allow the "current" value in a text box. Is there a way to do this?

Iwork:Pages:Mail Merge:text boxes?

In iwork: I have in a Pages document, 20 (1 7/8" square) text boxes that I am trying to mail merge info from a Numbers document. I have tried linking the text boxes and when I click to mail merge the info so that each text box has info from a line in the Numbers doc. it won't work and ends up giving me many pages with just one text boxes with the info from my Numbers doc. Can anyone help? Is what I'm trying to do possible?

You can do this with the addition of one simple step: Find and Replace.
I can't give you specific directions since I don't know what label layout you are using, and I'd rather leave that part to you anyway. A Mail Merge to Pages gives you one record per Section. To combine all the sections, all you need do is Find and Replace the Section Break characters and the 1-record per page document will collapse into multiple records per page, as many as will fit.
Here I have a small database for a team roster, in Numbers and I wish to print to labels in Pages.

Form text box problems please help???

I am creating a form in adobe XI and am having some problems with a text field I am trying to get the text field to allow me to add multi-line text with rich text editing and I am unable with the setting I have checked. I have gone to properties for the text field and have checked them as follows, Font size is at auto then I went to Options and set it to left alignment and selected multi-line and rich text formatting. But when I have put all the text in the box and I go back to a sentence to make it bold I am unable to do so... Please help??????

How are you trying to set the text as bold? Are you using the Properties bar?

Pictures in text boxes on Pages 5.0

So the update to Pages has had quite a radical overhaul. Most of it I can get used to but there seems to be a major change to how text boxes work. Previously if I create a text box I can drag around the page and everything remains inside of it, in the same place. Now, the pictures I put into text boxes stay on the same part of the page, but the text box moves. How can I arrange it so if I insert a picture into a text box it remains in the same place always.
Also, editing text boxes seems strange now. Trying to click the cursor into the text box so you can edit text seems bizarrly difficult and takes way too many clicks. What's going on there?
Sorry one more thing - I use Pages every single day for something with exactly the same format each time. Therefore being able to simply highlight text from the day before and paste over it with the new text was a massive time saver. Especially as using "alt+cmd+shift+v" would keep it in the same format. Now it doesn't paste over, it pastes but keeps the old text below it, even though I'm still highlighting the old text.

I think that these issues are most likely bugs. I have found and reported a couple bugs related to text boxes as well. You can and should report bugs to Apple here:

Meanwhile, a workaround for your first issue that I have been using is selecting the image in the text box, and also selecting the text box itself, and choosing Arrange -> Group. This will move everything around together, while allowing you to double-click on the text an extra time to still edit it. It's definitely a workaround and not a bug fix, but it should allow you to work semi-normally until the bug does get fixed by Apple.
As regards your second issue, I am not able to reproduce that problem when I test it. For me, selecting text and pasting over it, with or without matching style, replaces only the highlighted text. Can you perhaps provide more details and how this issue happens?

Pages 5.1: Insert MathType equation into text box?

How do I insert a MathType equation into a text box in Pages 5.1? This was no problem at all in '09!

As said by Mr.Mathtype we can enter and editable MathType equation with text into a Pages 5.1 text box. My procedure tried a few minutes ago is :
Inserting a MathType equation in a text box of Pages 5.1
1) Don’t forget to open MathType before pages 5.1.
2) In Pages : Menu Insert > Text box > select it > Inspector > Arrange > Object Placement > Stay on Page > do other settings in the Inspector.
3) Menu Insert > Equation MathType…
4) In MathType : type your equation > click the red round button of the window to close it > the equation is now in the Pages window.
5) In Pages : select the equation > Inspector > Arrange > Object Placement > Stay on page > do other settings in the Inspector ; you may change size and move the equation without using the Inspector.
6) Type your text in the text box and move the equation as desired.
7) Select equation and text box > Menu Arrange > Group : now equation and text box are joined together, the whole thing can be moved and use the Inspector settings.
The equation can be edited using the same way as for an equation in the text.

Pages keeps crashing due to a gacky text box

I attempted to format a report document in icloud tied to my macbook air. the text box has disappeared in icloud (I've tried copying and pasting the surrounding text to elimate it - hasn't worked.) every time I open up on desktop pages, once I scroll to the page where the text box appeared, it crashes. very frustrating! I think I might have to start a whole new document and recreate this section because I can't seem to get a workaround. anyone else have similar issues

Importing multiple PDF pages into text boxes

Hi,
Im wanting to import a pdf doc of adverts (roughly 300 pages) into indesign into a text box to allow me to treat the individual pages as text items to allow me to space them and fit them to the pages accordingly. I can add single pages into a text box using the place command however it wont flow all the pages into the text box one after each other.
is this possible?

I expect this would need to be scripted unless you are able to use a grid, in which case the "gridified" placing options in CS5 might allow you to place all the pages that will fit on a single page at one time from the loaded cursor. That's not something I've played with, though so I can't wear it would work.
I'm not sure placing them as inline anchored objects (as you describe), by the way, is going to give you the sort of placement control you want.

How do I insert additional pages inside a footnoted document with accompanying text boxes and still keep pages below syncronized?

Is there a way to insert additional pages into a lengthy document containing continuous footnotes at the bottom of each page and accompanying text boxes on most pages without losing the syncronization of text and text box information on the pages below?

Footnotes do not work for text in textboxes, and you can keep on adding text after existing text so I am not sure what you are asking for.

Data Merge, multiple records, one text box, one page

I need to my data to merge in one text box on multiple lines.
Example:
My TXT file:
Name
Mary
Bob
Paul
I want my InDesign file to look like this: (one text box, one page)
Mary
Bob
Paul
I don't want multiple pages or multiple text boxes. I hope this makes sense.

Sorry, that's not how it works in Data Merge.
Your list will require multiple records per page, or a restucturing of the data (a better choice, in this case) so you have Name1, Name2, Name3 or something similar.
Have you considered just placing the text file?
How many records are you really using?

Find and Replace Text box

I have a document with roughly 50 pages. At the bottom of each page is a text box about with my address going across. I moved so I need to update the address, only problem is the address is longer so after using find and replace I would have to go to each text box and re-size. IS there a way to replace them all with new one or is there some way to add footer and I have been doing it wrong all along?

Internet Explorer 11 issue with displaying value in confirm password text box

I have one Website which has deployed on Windows 2008 R2 server.
I have one issue with one Web Page... In my Web page have 3 Text boxes for Passwords like -
Login :
Password :
Confirm Password :
So in this case, when this page load all data fills properly excluding confirm password.
"Confirm Password" text box always shows Blank. This text box already filled through code as per database value, but not shown value in this text box.
But same value is showing in first "Password" text box properly.
This problem occurred in IE 10 and 11 only. Same page is showing properly on other browsers and IE8 also.
Can you please give me any solution on this issue ?

Please try to use compatibility mode use F12 to check IE8 mode will work.

How do I eliminate the text boxes?

I have made ibooks before however this time I get the text boxes in pretty much every page. I delete the page start again to make a full page picture on a blank page and the text boxes appear again. I cannot figure out how to eliminate the text area. Also I cannot change the position of the pictures when the text boxes are displayed.

There is a menu to let you select the layout you want, textbox or no text box.
In iPhoto 11 it's the icon at the top of the page in the single page view:

Earlier versions of iPhoto will have a layout button at the bottom where you can change the layout.
