Pages 5.2 won't open older docs

After upgrading Pages to v5.2, when I try to open older documents, I get this prompt: "you need a newer version of Pages to open this document" I've uninstalled all other versions of Pages, and reinstalled Pages v5.2 but still can't open my existing files.
Help in opening these docs would be apprieciated.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • Pages and Numbers won't open existing documents.. Any clues?

    Hello!
I noticed yesterday that Pages and Numbers won't open existing documents.
I've tried to reinstall software, but no luck.
I've done no changes to my system, other than installing updates that have been made available.
    I run iWork '09 on a MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010, with OSX 10.7.3.
I can view the documents in preview, but I really need them to work as they are work-related.
    What to do?

Look at the threads to the right. One of them is this https://discussions.apple.com/message/13147694#13147694 and it might help you

  • Pages 5.0 won't open existing Pages '09 docs

Upgraded to Mavericks and updated Pages.  However, new Pages 5.0 won't let me open older existing Pages documents saved on my Mac.  However, it will open Pages documents saved in iCloud.  When attempting to open Pages docs on my Mac, I get the following error message:
How do I get around this?  Do I have to dig around and find my old iWorks disk and reinstall Pages '09?

Sorry to be "that guy", but i've done that without an issue, I can now add pages by copying previous ones, but now Pages 4.3 groups a new page which is blank, with page 13. It also adds a the copy of the last page below the two that get grouped together.  So basically, I end up with 2 copys of page 13, and the original.

  • Pages won't open a doc, telling me I require the newest version of pages to open the doc, but I have 5.0.1

I wnat to open a doc i created recently, but Pages tells me I require a the newest version of Pages, whicj I already have.  THis has happened repeatedly.

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

  • App Store says I've installed pages 5.0.1 but I get 4.3 when I open it up.  Docs from pages 5.0 won't open

I can open my old documents but new ones made on pages 5 won't open.  I checked the app store and it says I've installed 5.  Any idea why I'm having a problem???

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there then right-click on the Dock icon & select Options > Keep in Dock.
Installing new versions of iWork has never replaced existing versions. This is nothing new. The only thing new is that the '09 apps are moved to an iWork '09 folder if they were purchased from the Mac App Store. If they were installed from disk they should already be in a separate folder in Applications.

  • Pages on Mavericks won't open downloaded Google Drive docs

How can I force Mavericks to let Pages open downloaded Google Drive docs?
I installed Mavericks and then reverted back to iWork 09 but Pages now won't open files in .docx format that I download from Google Drive.
    I get error:
The document “5TThinkPiece.docx” couldn’t be opened.
This is one of the biggest #firstworldproblems I can imagine; if Mavericks isn't comptatible with Google Drive then the Mac has to go, because Gdrive > Computer.

I had the same problem, but fixed it.
Having bought the CD-ROM with iWork way back updates for this does not appear automatically in Mavericks App Store. However, after downloading the update for iWork here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563?viewlocale=en_US
    - Pages works like a charm again when it comes to opening all kind of Word documents.
Hope this will help you also.

  • Suddenly my pages reverted to '09 version and won't open my docs, saying "you need to download the new Pages". I go to the store and it says I already have it downloaded. Weird. Can't open any of my docs now.

For no apparent reason, my pages documents will no longer open. I get an error message "You need a newer version of pages to open this". They tell me to go to the app store to buy it. The thing is, I do have the newest version of pages. It confirms it in the store. So now I have this mystery and can't find my newer version and can't open any of my documents which is very problematic, let me say. Any ideas? Thanks much.

The previous version, is not deleted when Pages 5 is installed, just moved to Applications/iWork folder.
The icons on the dock remain.
Have you actually looked in your Applications folder for the new version?
Any documents created by Pages 5 need to be opened by Pages 5.

  • Pages 5.0 won't open Pages files

OK, this is weird. Since upgrading to Mavericks with the free Pages 5.0 upgrade last week, all of my Pages files have been opening in Pages 5.0 just fine -- until today. An update dialog opened today November 4 2013 around 3pm saying there was a Pages update. We proceeded with the update and now any document that was opened and saved since the Mavericks update won't open as before. Instead an error dialog box appears stating "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document.". So I click "OK" and then  open the document using "Open With" and select Pages 5.0, which is now set as "default" and the file opens fine. I save the file in Pages 5.0. But the next time I go open it, it gives me the exact same stupid dialog box.
If I open a Pages file that has not been opened since the Mavericks update, it opens in Pages 09. If I select "Open With" and select the new "default" Pages 5.0 and save it in that version, the next time I open the file I get that same stupid dialog again: "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document."
What the he**? Am I going to have to use "Open With" for every single Pages 09 file that I want to open in Pages 5.0?

    I'm having a similar problem.
Running Pages 5.1 on my iMac and my MacBook Pro.
I can't open any Pages document on iCloud from my iMac, regardless of where that document was originally created (iMac, MBP, or iPad). I have tried File -> Open File... from within Pages, as well as by double-clicking the file within the iCloud folder in Finder. However, I can copy the file to my desktop via Finder, and then open it from my desktop. I can create a file in Pages on my iMac and save it to iCloud, but then I can't open it later.
However, I can open any Pages document on iCloud from my MacBook Pro without any problem - including the ones that won't open on the iMac.

  • Pages error -1712 won't open, pages error -1712 won't open

Help.  Pages suddenly won't open.   Shows error -1712.   What's happened?

Open Activity Monitor located in /Applications/Utiliites
Select 'View' then 'My Processes' in the menubar across the very top of your screen.
Type Pages in the search field top right corner of the Activity Monitor window.
Now select the application Pages (it should say 'not responding') and click the force quit button that looks like a stop sign with an x in it.
    >You should now be able to relaunch Pages.
Force Quitting within Activity Monitor is a quick and efficient way to handle most Applications "Not Responding" or seeming not to open with error -1712.
Just be aware that you may lose any unsaved work by force quitting an application.
It can also work great for an Application that "Freezes" and is giving the spinning beach ball

  • .pages file created in Pages for Mac won't open in Pages for iPad

Just created a pages document on my Mac, saved it to my google drive and when attempting to "open in" from my google drive the file won't open in pages for iPhone or iPad (mini).
All versions of Pages are on latest release.
    Messge reads:
    Document can't be imported.
    The file format is invalid.
I download both the mac app and ios app a week ago.
    Thank you for any info!

I've been testing file structures via google drive this morning and have yet to find a solution.
Compressed files will not open in Pages on the ipad and an upload to Google Drive of a .pages document re downloaded to my desktop will no longer open in Pages on the Mac.
Somewhere in the google ecosystem during upload or download / "open in" (on the ipad) the file is being restructured so that it cannot be recognized.
An hour call with the team at Google hasn't supplied an answer yet and they have opened a case file to investigate.
I'll update when I hear back.
    Thanks!

  • Latest version of pages (5.1) won't open documents created on pages (same version).

Just a week ago I worked on my documents with no problem.
Today, I can't open the documents anymore. I keep getting an error message requiring a newer version of pages.
I have removed and re-installed pages - no luck there.
I have only 1 version installed so the documents are not looking for an older version.
This is a new Macbook Pro Retina which is 1 month old.
I need to submit my work today.
    Please help!
    Thanks

    1. You really should read the reviews, basically they warn you off Pages 5.
    2. The whole story about the problems with Pages 5 are posted hundreds if not thousands of times in this forum.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5.1 files can not be opened in Pages 5.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems (OSX 10.9 & iOS7) and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Pages 5.1 won't open previous files in iCloud.

Updated Pages today to 5.1. Now, when I open Pages and choose a file to open that is in iCould, the file won't open. Pages seems to open files on my Mac.
Pages '09 won't open then files stored on iCould either. Pages 5.1 gives me an error message saying the file cannot be opened. Pages '09 gives no message; it just won't open the file.
If I drag the file from the iCloud window in Pages to my desktop, the file will open. Looks like a bug to me.

    I'm having a similar problem.

  • ITunes Win7 64-bit won't open older library

Updated iTunes on Win7, 64-bit laptop and it now won't open ... posts an error message of "can't open library file created with older version". I performed the upgrade on my XP-Pro 32-bit laptop with no issues, and a clean upgrade/update of my iPhone. Can't get it to work on the Win7 64-bit machine and, yes, I did indeed download the correct version of iTunes for Win7, 64-bit. I'm thinking the older version on the Win7 machine was not kept up and got too old to upgrade ... is that a possibility?

Just tried this after itunes crashed consistently - wouldn't open.
NOW I can sign the license agreement but get the message : "The iTunes library .itl file cannot be found or created. The default locatioin for this file is in the iTunes folder in the Music folder.
I can do a search for the most recently saved .itl iTunes library (from 10/18, sigh). But I can't figure out where to put that once I find it.
    Any help? Thanks!

  • Sharepoint won't open office docs after server rename

    Hi-
We renamed our SharePoint server and everything is fine.  However, MS docs won't open within SharePoint anymore.  We have an Office Web Apps server and that hasn't been touched since the rename...  Is there somewhere on the Web Apps
server where I need to change the name of our SharePoint 2013 server?  Any other ideas?  This was working fine before the server rename.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi ,
Is there any related error message in ULS log?
Please use the following PowerShell cmdlet on your SharePoint server to re-create a new Web Application Open Platform Interface (WOPI) binding between your SharePoint farm and the OWA 2013 server, then check results again.
    New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName <OWAServerName> -AllowHTTP
If above doesn't work, I would suggest you can re-configure the Office Web App for SharePoint with the steps from the following article.
