Pages and Japanese formatting

Is it possible to set the number of characters per line as well as lines per page with Japanese kanji, like what can be done with Word's Japanese language register? Also, why does my macbook pro laptop (leopard) pages 09 have the font ms mincho, but installed on my PM G5 (leopard) that font is missing? Thanks for any help.

I was not aware that that function was available in MS Word. (I have not yet installed any version of MS office on my new Mac.) But I am pretty sure it is not available in Pages. I have set similar functions in the Japanese version of Indesign, Egword and some of the Japanese shareware word processors, I think.

I think MS Mincho is not supplied by Apple, so perhaps you got it somewhere else (like Office) and it's not on both machines? Apple's font is Hiragino Mincho.

Converting from Microsoft Word to Pages and removing formatting

I have a huge document in Word that needs serious text editing. I need to remove the formatting and do a simple text edit in Pages. I am relatively new to mac and am on a steep learning curve after 15 years in Microsoft Word and before that Corel! I think I am complicating the issue unnecessarily - I hope someone can give me some simple guidance.

Probably the fastest and surest way is to open the Word file in TextEdit:
Menu > Format > Make Plain Text > Save > Unicode UTF (.txt)
Then Copy and Paste that into Pages or:
Menu > Insert > Choose… > browse to .txt file

Pages and apa format

I am writing a paper in apa format using pages. I have imported a table into the document and that seems to be formatted fine. However each page needs a running header and I can't get the header to post to the 2nd page of the table without duplicating itself and posting randomly to other pages as duplicate header.

I tried to explain you that before asking here, we are supposed to search in existing threads.
A dumb machine was able to find the five links given in the "More Like This" text box.
I always assume that an human brain may be at least equally efficient but in your case it seems that I was wrong.
I got lots of points because, happily, many askers understood that explaining them the way they may get the infos by themselves is more efficient than just giving it.

Pages and numbers Ipad : How to convert pages and numbers to word and xls?

Hello everyone,
I am currently using Pages and Numbers for Ipad. As I am currently working on these two programs and with their equivalent for PC (Word and Excel) for my research project, I would like to know how I can convert respectively the page and number format to word and xls, to use my documents both on my Ipad and my PC.
- Is there a convert option in pages or numbers for IPad?
- otherwise, is there suc an option in iwork.cim ?
- if nothing of such kind exists on pages and numbers for Ipad and in iwork.com, is there any software which could do the conversion ?

Within Pages, you can export to MS Word, Pages, and PDF, but Numbers only exports to Numbers or PDF...
Pages and Numbers on your Mac can convert the files to Word and Excel...

Date format and number format- need help

Hi everyone,
I'm working with JDeveloper10.1.2, struts and uix pages.
I have 2 problems:
1 - I have a field of type date in my uix page and the format is like this='24-Jun-2006', but I need to change this format to be '2006/06/24'.
2 - I have an attribute of type number(salary) and when I drag and drop this attribute from the DataControl Pallete and run the project, in the uix page I see a number, for example: salary = '123456', but I should see salary = '123.456,00'.
And when I write, for example '123.456,00', when I commit this value, I should see in my DataBase something like this '123456,00'.
I alredy tried to change the attribute properties in the Entity Object but without success. :(
Can anyone help me with this problems?

something like this '123456,00'.Sorry I replied before thinking about the problem. You will not see the value in the db as such, the db will show the values differently depending on the session settings.
The values will only show up as such in the form. To see them such in the db do:
alter session set nls_date_format='yyyy.mm.dd'
for the date and
alter session set nld_number_format='0.00'
for the number

Headers and footer formatting changes when word docs are loaded to pages

I have loaded template word documents from my Imac to ipad pages. If I turn around and email the template out, the heading formatting has changed.
Is there a list of specific fonts I can import word-docs with to not do this?
Also, when I click on the document in pages to change the header, it has three sections, Can I combine the sections to make 1 or 2 sections?

Hi, I have a similar problem with Word (.doc) files containing a Table converted to Pages. Having read that Pages can convert from Word, I bought iWork instead of Office for Mac. I need to work on Word documents sent to me as attachments and find that Tables do not survive the conversion to Pages properly. Often the text within a Table is shown but, if a lengthy text (i.e. more than a page), the Table does not continue to the next page and the text becomes hidden below the visible Table. If I cut out some text from the middle of the Table, the missing text is revealed, progressively from the bottom of the Table. In other words, the text is there in the document but cannot be seen if it is more than can be fitted on one page. Any ideas on how to sort this? I am not encouraged that iWork 09 does not appear to help in a similar problem to mine.

How do you change the date and time format in Pages

I've tried changing the date and time format a number of times for Pages but it does not change. I'm going to the System Preferences/Language and Text and Formats. I make the changes click on OK and go back to Pages. NO change.

Page 116 of the Pages'09 User Guide: Control Click the date, Edit Date and Time.
Date and time can also be in a table. Format the table cell.
The User Guide is well worth a read. Download it from the Help menu in Pages.

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

How to avoid borderline coming between page and page in Htmlcss format

I run a report output in HTMLcss format. Output is coming correctly.But what my problem is in the output i am getting some borderline (thick black line) between page and page. While i print the html i am getting this line at end of each page. What is this line and how to remove it htmlcss. i want printout without this line.I am using reports 10g version.

The line is caused by the default HTML code placed in the After Page Value property found in the Report Escapes section of the report property palette. Clear the value to delete the line

It is still in my preferences section. but even when I paste it in, I still get the Japanese site. How do I get the English site back, and ensure that I never see the japanese site on my computer ever again?

Some sites automatically redirect you to a site in the local language.
There is usually a link on such websites choose a language or go to an international version that allows to chose the language.
You can click the link at the bottom of the local Google page (www.google.xx.xx) to go to the [http://www.gooogle.com/ncr "Google.com in English"] site.
You may need to hover that local Google page with the mouse to make extra content appear.
You can set the Google preferences on the [http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en Google Search settings] page (link at the top right).
Such settings are stored in a cookie on your computer that you need to allow: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions" or Tools > Page Info > Permissions.

I'm not very familiar with Pages, but I did just read on Apple's website that it does import .docx files. What happens when you open Pages, and then choose File > Open to open the .docx files?

Formatting is off when opening Word docs in Pages and vice versa

I recently decided to switch from Windows to Mac and bought a MacBook. I used to use Word on my Windows computer and now when I open .doc or .docx files in Pages, the formatting is off, i.e. bullets, tabs, spacing, etc. This formatting problem also happens when other people use Word to open my files that I created in Pages and saved as a .doc. Is there some fix for this so that I don't have to reformat each document that was created in Word but that I now open in Pages?

For maximum compatibility I think you need to use Word for Mac or OpenOffice.

Pages and formatting keeps breaking

I continue to be frustrated with Pages because I spend a lot of my time managing the layout of my pages and sections as things continually break.
I move a page within a document, and it breaks the formatting of other nearby pages. I insert a page break and it deletes a section below. I insert a page break and it ***** content to the next section. I try to break out a page into a new section and it inserts a blank page below that can not be removed.
I am sure there may be reasons for some of this, but I have never had to sped so much time fixing and figuring out. Any recommends?

If you had Pages ’09 v4.3 before the Pages v5 upgrade downgrade, then it was moved into /Applications/iWork '09. If you want to return to productivity, you should export any Pages v5 documents back to Pages ’09 format, and then resume using the older application. It simply has 100+ features that were not implemented in Pages v5.
LibreOffice is powerful, and with that power comes a new learning curve. They do have rather good documentation, too. Try Pages ’09 v4.3 if you have it, and I would recommend exporting each document to a MS Word .doc file, with consistent backups — as Apple future-proofing.

How to set the title and tab name of page in EXCEL format

I have generated a HTML page in a popup. I want to show the page in Excel format in the popup.
I did this by executing the command
         owa_util.mime_header('application/vnd.ms-excel',true);before the report.
This is working correct only now you see the complete URL in the popup title and
the "f?p=.." part in the excel sheet name.
How can you change the title and the sheet name.
I have already tried the following:
         owa_util.mime_header('application/vnd.ms-excel',false);
         htp.p('Content-Disposition: inline; name=overzicht.xls');
         htp.p('Content-Description: overzicht.xls');
         owa_util.http_header_close;but this does not change anything.
Does somebody know a solution.

blog post <title> tag works fine but not the blog post description.
As previous forum answers indicated:
Went to:
- Site Manager->Module Templates->Blogs->Blog Post Details layout and put the above code.
- made sure in blog post SEO the title and description fields are filled out.
- removed from my blog-template any call for the title and description.
must be missing something.

Excel tables... columns and row formatting after I update the indesign page

When my excel table gets updated in indesign I lose formatting (hight/wide) for the columns&rows. There are 26 columns and each one is a difference size. Do I have to formatting (hight&wide) each column and row every time the excel table is updated?

We have many publications with statistical tables, which are done in excel. We want to try to do some publications with only tables and do it in-house. The problem is when we place the table in indesign and finish formatting the table. We will get a updated table that needs to be updated in indesign. But when we do we update we lose all of the indesign formatting. Fixing the fonts, type size, etc is easy but how do we get back the all column widths.
