Pages as attachments

Any explanation as to why all my Pages documents get zipped when attaching them to email?

dr,
Usually, people want to know why their documents aren't emailing properly -- and zipping is the solution. Your question is sort of the inverse of that. I'm guessing you've got Send Windows-Friendly Attachments checked in your Mail program. Is there some reason you don't want your Pages docs zipped?

  • Task Details Page show 'Attachments' section empty

    hi,
Using Project Server 2013, when i click on any task in My Task page, it takes me to Task Details where i cannot see any link to Attachments i.e. Issues, Risks and Documents.
I have created & published a new project but problem still persists.
Kindly suggest, attached is a screenshot.

Unfortunately, that is not a feature.
the document associated with the Project Site "task" is a SharePoint list construct and is contained only in the SharePoint Project Site.
on the PWA pages, the Project and Project Tasks are Project Server items, and there is no two way communications on this particular level.
the wording is awkward, but the concept is right.  Sorry, no can do in out of the box.   AFAIK (disclaimer! :)
direct the users back to the project site to view documents.
    hope that helps,
    Thanks, Eric S. Pcubed

  • Multi-page Tiff attachments and iPad

    Hello,
I like very much The ipad, and i use IT everywere is possible:from browsing The web to writing emails, from playing games to listening to music.
But there's a big problem:i can't read multi-page tiff that I use very much within my enterprise.
I can only read The first page of these files, other pages seems to not exist.
I've made many tries:installing readdle docs and other applications didn't solve The problem (also these applications showed only The first page) and both mail application and gmail browser client show a question mark as attached file in preview, i can download this as image but still I can only see The first page.
Did anybody managed to solve The problem? Google didn't...
    Thank you very much!
    Andrea

Actually as the author of Fax Reader we opened a official problem/engineering report with Apple about the issue, and were advised the Mail engineering team actually DID NOT have any trouble tickets open in how Mail deals with TIFF documents. They must be deaf? Given that maybe someday they will offer a FIX based on our paid for engineering ticket. But you are welcome to wait forever? for them to offer up a fix. Good luck with that decision, your lawyer might offer up a one of these stupid document and charge you $4.95 a page for the offer. PDF ? Ya we've an app TOO for that!

  • I DON'T want attachments to show in the text of the Mail email

I DON'T want attachments to show in the text of the email.
My company just switched over to Mail today. Every time we send an email with a .pdf attachment, it shows the attachment in the text body of the email. We don't want that to happen. How do I prevent this from happening?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Mail 2.1.1

    You can't.
The Mail.app displays all image/photo and single page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default - sending and receiving.
You can control-click on a viewed in place attachment and select View as Icon but the icon for the attached file will remain in the body of the message. Regardless, depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app when receiving such attachments) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
This was a minor adjustment for me at first but I now prefer such attachments being displayed inline since I have confirmation that I selected the correct file or file names as attachments before the message is sent.

  • This simple html page won't render properly in Dreamweaver

I'm using DW 5.5 on a Mac (tried DW4 as well).  I have a web page (no attachments here, so I put it at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23232804/Books.html ) which is simply a list of permanent links to Amazon.com books - I need this for my website. Oddly, I can't load it in DW's preview window to edit it - the top part loads ok but about half-way down the page, it's blank - it's like it gives up on fetching the data from Amazon, so I can't edit it in true WYSIWYG fashion like I can with any other page. What's going on here - how do I fix this?
    thanks in advance

    > Assuming what I see when I go to your link, it's a wonder that DW can display anything there.
    > This is not a valid web page - it's a collection of 520 <iframe> tags placed between two <center> tags.
this is not meant to be a stand-alone page - I was going to import this content into a bigger web page. It was created for me by someone who went through and grabbed all these Amazon links.    Firefox has no problem displaying the code as-is (and correctly); I would have thought that the DW preview could do at least as well - showing me the images and their associated images even if it's not a valid page in itself. Seamonkey displays (and edits it) just fine as well. It has a <head>, <body>, etc. - what is it missing that DW shouldn't be able to display it? All I want for this is to have a page with a bunch of "tiled" rectangles each representing a book and its link at Amazon.
    > DW is not a WYSIWYG editor. There is no such thing as a WYSIWYG HTML authoring system....
I'm not versed enough in the details to understand the distinction you're making, but DW comes pretty close, no?   It shows me how the html code will look in a browser, in a side-by-side preview pane. Clearly it doesn't work 100% of the time (as in this case), but it seems to do pretty well usually.  In any case, I concede the (no doubt subtle) point - all I want is to be able to see the page and edit it as DW allows me to do for any other page I've used with it.
    thank you,
    Mike

  • Pdf attachments cause mail to freeze

When I receive emails with single page pdf attachments, mail freezes while trying to show preview of the pdf. I then have to force quit mail.
These files aren't particularly large- the last one to freeze was 2.6 megabytes. This is a new and powerful computer, why cant a simple thing like a pdf be previewed in mail without crashing?

Mail is very glitchy in mountain lion. I own the same laptop and I am very frustrated as well.

  • Image attachments cannot be extracted by recipient

I'm having a problem whereby when I add an image to an e-mail – and the image shows in the body of the e-mail rather than as an icon – in a number of instances the recipient (Windows users) cannot drag the image out of the e-mail.
Is this a common problem (I can't find a reference to it in earlier posts) and is there a solution?
    Regards

Using the Send Windows Friendly Attachments feature with Mail removes the Apple resource fork from attached files only which is invisible to fellow Mac users.
The Mail.app displays all image/photo and single page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off. Depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app when receiving such attachments) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
The reverse is true. Windows Outlook and Outlook express display all attachments as icons in an attachments window but when sending image/photo or single page PDF attachments to a Mail.app user, such attachments will appear inline or viewed in place when the message is opened.
Are you using RTF or Plain Text for message composition and are you also including a Signature with your messages?
RTF with Tiger Mail is really HTML and since this doesn't occur with all recipients, it probably primarily occurs with Windows Outlook users. Depending on the version used by a recipient, Windows Outlook can have problems with Mail's RTF.
If you are using RTF for message composition, try using Plain Text instead and if you are also using a Signature, be sure to place the Signature below all message text and add any attachments below all text including a Signature.

  • Mailing Attachments

    Hi folks,
I'm having problem email pictures as attachments to windows users. My email sends the picture embedded in the email and apparently not as an attachment. Therefore, the photostop can't download it for printing. Is there a way to change that?
    Thanks

Are you using RTF for message composition?
If so, RTF with Tiger Mail is really HTML and this can sometimes cause problems with Windows Outlook users depending on the Outlook version the recipient is using.
In addition, are you inserting attachments within/between message text and/or are you using a Signature?
The Mail.app displays all image/photo and single page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default but depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app when receiving such attachments) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
Inserting attachments within/between message text along with Tiger Mail's RTF which is really HTML along with including a signature can cause problems with some email clients - primarily with Windows Outlook.
To ensure this doesn't happen, use Plain Text for message composition, be sure to include the file extension with each attached file, use the send Windows Friendly Attachments option and always attach all such files after all message text including your signature since there is no guarantee attachments that appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message will appear the same when the message is opened by the recipient.

  • Why does emailed Pages attachment open in email

I cannot get any Pages documents that I am emailing as PDFs to stay as closed attachments, they always end up open in the sent email.  Anyone know how to sort this?
    Thanks

Single page PDF attachments appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the email with the iOS Mail app and the same with the Mail app on a Mac. Depending on the recipient's email client, the attachment will appear the same in the body of the email or as an attached file only that must be opened separately which you have no control over.

You have send the Pages document to people on Mac without Pages or to People using Pc's.
You need to export the Pages document to Word or Pdf.

  • Controlling a web page from Labview

    Hello,
I am trying to acquire image from an Encoder's IP address, but I'm facing some problems:
    1. Once the Ip address is loaded, the web page asks for authentication (user and password), so I don't know how I can send this information to IE through Labview.
    2. Once one has logged in, the web page shows a window with ActiveX controls in which the image from a camera is acquired and can be zoomed in and out, or saved. I need to saved the image, so I would need to send an instruction to the page as if I had clicked in the "Save" icon. I wonder if I can send some sort of instructions telling "buttonX=ON" or using the coordinates in the window to simulate a click or sth.
I tried the "AutoIT Example.vi" and changed it to call internet explorer and then sending the URL, and I also tried the "open_browser_send_URL.vi" but as I said, I'm stuck in the authentication part.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have to deal with this problem.
    Thanks

When you attempt to log in to the web page, does it use a form on the web page, or does it pop up a separate authentication dialog?  If it's a form within the web page, you may be able to do this using Internet Explorer and LabVIEW.  The details will depend on your web page - if it uses a form submit then it should work, if it relies on Javascript then it may be more trouble.  You'll have to look at the web page source to identify the correct form elements.  I'm attaching a VI that demonstrates how I handled this in one previous project.  The VI expects that you'll pass in a reference to a WebBrowser object.
To save the image, you may again be able to dig into the HTML source of the web page to find out what method of the ActiveX object is being called.  You can then obtain a reference to that ActiveX object, cast it to the appropriate type, and call that same method from your VI.  I've done this before for a web-based label-printing application, as shown in the attached image.  In this case the ActiveX component is called TidAx1 (which I found from looking at the source of the web page).  After obtaining a reference to the ActiveX component within the web page, the LabVIEW programmer has access to all its properties and methods.

  • PDF & JPEG attachments no longer work in Tiger

I just upgraded to Tiger yesterday and now my trusty Mail application is totally useless. I send proofing PDFs and JPEGs to my clients all day long and now anything I attach is a crapshoot. Everytime I attach a JPEG, I get a garishly coloured preview in the email body which sometimes I can fix by fiddling with that new image size window in the lower right of the window frame, but my clients still get an email with the image embedded in it that they usually can only save as a bmp. Mail was working perfectly under Panther. Why the blazes did they mess it up? The most annoying thing is that there used to be a preference setting that would allow you to turn off seeing images in your emails. This is seriously affecting my business and I won't upgrade any of my other Macs until this is resolved. Has anyone else found a workaround for this?

The most annoying thing is that there used to be a preference setting
that would allow you to turn off seeing images in your emails.
I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced, thru Panther and now Tiger and there has never been such a preference setting with any Mail.app version for displaying inline or viewed in place attachments. There is a preference setting to display remote images in HTML messages which is not the same thing.
The Mail.app displays image/photo attachments and 1 page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off but this is not the same as being embedded.
You can control-click on such an attachment and choose View as Icon but regardless - depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such an attachment may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened (as with the Mail.app when receiving such an attachment) or as an attached file only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
The same is true in reverse. Windows Outlook and OE shows all message attachments as attached files only but when receiving an image/photo attachment with the Mail.app, it will appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message.
Using Send Windows Friendly Attachments has no control over or effect on this and should be used regardless when sending attachments to a Windows recipient. This feature removes the Apple resource fork for an attached file only which is invisible to fellow Mac users.
Although the Mail.app does not include an HTML composer/editor, RTF with Tiger Mail is really HTML. The recipients who are reporting this problem are Windows Outlook users and Outlook has a problem with Mail's RTF and image/photo attachments.
Use Send Windows Friendly Attachments, Plain Text for message composition instead of RTF and no need to select View as Icon which has no effect on the recipient's email client.

  • Mail PDF attachments not clear

When I look through my Sent box the emails that have one page pdf attachments are so badly blurred (or not clear) that it is really difficult to read them.
When I then open the attachment with Preview it's nice and sharp.
This was not a problem before upgrading to SL.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I, too, have exactly the same issue. The pdfs were placed in the body of the e-mail and the recipient got blurred images. I switch to AOL, and both attachments opened up in excellent condition on the other end.
I plan to send quite a few more in the future, so I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks.

  • Mail is corrupting attachments

    Hi
Mail has started corrupting attachments in both sent and recieved emails. This affects jpegs, pdfs, zip files, etc although so far not word or text documents.
Its been a pain usually with me requesting that stuff be resent only to find it corrupted in a different way. My webmail checks out fine and I have even started entourage running to double check. Entourage works fine, for what it is.
So far as I am aware I haven't changed any settings, nor installed anything untoward.
Can I fix this, I'm not keen on switching email software.

APPLE TAKE NOTE OF THIS BUG, PLEASE.
This is a user to user help forum only and although certainly there are some Apple employees who peruse these Discussions, you are not providing anything to Apple directly here.
The Mail.app displays all image/photo and single page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off.
You can control-click on an inline or viewed in place attachment and select View as Icon but this has no effect on the attachment.
Depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened (as with the Mail.app when receiving such attachments) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed which the sender has no control over.
The same in reverse. Windows Outlook and Outlook Express sends image/photo and single page PDF attachments as attached files only (not displayed inline or viewed in place) but when received and opened by a Mail.app user, such attachments appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message along with the attached files available below the message header which can be saved outside of the message.
The Image Size adjustment included with Tiger Mail should be used with image/photo attachments only and not with single page PDF attachments that appear inline or viewed in place. When used with single page PDF attachments, the file type is converted to jpg since this is what the Image Size adjustment is for - for images only.
What needs to be changed is not providing the Image Size adjustment when attaching a single page PDF file.

  • How Can I Export Our WIki in a CSV Format?

Victims of our own success: what was originally created as internal content on our private OS X Server wiki now is being requested for presentation on an externally hosted web service. Management wants this content to be accessible to constituents on the outside in a searchable database on a completely different service not administered by us on the inside.
The developer building the database has asked for this content to be exported in CSV for easy import into the new database: page title, tags (a.k.a. keywords, not to be confused with HTML formatting tags), and page content.
Sadly, according to the Wiki Server Admin Guide (p. 73), the Wiki service does not appear to store page content in any kind of database, but rather in separate files. Thus I can't see a way to provide the requested data short of copying and pasting content from each individual wiki page on the OS X Server.
Considering that we're talking about ~200 pages of content, I'd like to avoid a manual process of that kind. I've been through the official Wiki Server Admin Guide, but it offered no help for exporting content in the way I need.
I'm fairly comfortable with AppleScript, less so with shell/bash scripting. Since I'm trying to save time, I'm not sure that's my answer on this scale. Debugging a script (for me) might take longer than a simple copy/paste of 200 items (maybe I'm wrong).
Does anyone have a different way of looking at this I haven't thought of? Am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance,
    Axiom

Unfortunately, exporting the wiki data into a format that databases can understand is not a trivial process. Pages are stored as a collection of folders that contain the wiki text, the HTML for display, the change history, the comments, and the attachments.
In a default setup, the page folders are under /Library/Collaboration/Groups/{groupname}/wiki . All folders under Groups can only be viewed by using root access permissions.
For example, for a wiki page accessed by:
    http://yourserver.com/groups/general/wiki/abc12/mywikipage.html
    Under /Library/Collaboration/Groups/general/wiki
abc12.page - folder for wiki page
!- attachments - folder for attachments
!- images - folder for images
    ! page.html - html (probably a cache) for display
! page.plist - property list file with all notes on the
! revisions.db - SQLite database file that contains all the revisions.
You would need a script that runs as the _teamserver user to read every .page directory, parse the .plist files, and generate a SQL statement to preserve all the text, markup, and quotations. If you program really well, you could search for the URLs in every .plist file and record the embedded attachments and images, and copy them to another location.
For my first project, I parsed the .plist files just to get a map of the random page URL and the title. I also found out about "deleted" and "tombstoned" states, and elected to ignore those.
If I get a moment I'll write about that next.
