Pages bug? Arrows look cut in PDF viewers

Hello all!
I have Pages 2.0.1v2 on OS 10.4.7. When I export a document as PDF, the arrows I created with shapes appear slightly cut at the top in both Preview and Acrobat Reader 7. Here is a screenshot: http://artemio.net/tmp/PagesPicture1.png
Has anyone else experienced this?
All the best,
Artemiy.

I added :
\pdfminorversion 5
So the generated pdf is pdf 1.5 (seen in pdf properties in acroread).
But the problem with png files still occurs.
To resolve the problem, I just remove the alpha channel (in gimp for example) of my png, and acroread displays it correctly.
EDIT: with \pdfminorversion 7 (pdf 1.7), acroread has no the bug.
png are correctly displayed.

Is this a single pdf or all pdfs. What version of Acrobat are you
running and which version of the OS? The fact that you can see the pdf
in preview and not Acrobat 8, is no guarantee that the pdf is not
corrupt. It is quite common that what can be be viewed in earlier
version of Acrobat, is considered corrupt in later versions. Adobe
continually tightens the enforcement of pdf standards in rendering pdf
files. This is done for many reasons, but the best reason to do so is
security. People have found ways to use these loopholes to compromise
    the security of computers.

  • Dante font used in manuscript - when I try to save as a pdf document in Microsoft Word whole pages change their look, with wide gaps forming between certain paragraphs or sections. This does not happen with other fonts.

Dante font used in manuscript … when I try to save as a pdf document in Microsoft Word whole pages change their look, with wide gaps forming between certain paragraphs or sections. This does not happen with other fonts.

    OK, we've got it!
What is happening is that when you use Microsoft's save as PDF in Word, the font isn't embedded even though the font is tagged to allow embedding. Furthermore, Microsoft doesn't properly put the font name into the PDF file such that Acrobat or Reader can readily find the font installed on your system such that the text can be properly displayed and/or printed. Acrobat and Reader attempt to display and/or print the text using a “substitution font” and of course, as they say, YMMV (“your mileage may vary”)!
I personally submitted the report of this problem (both the embedding and the font name problem) to Microsoft. They acknowledge the bug, tried a fix and provided me a build with it, but it wasn't right. Maybe they will ultimately fix it, maybe they won't. We don't know yet. We do know that if it is fixed, it will be fixed only for Office 2013 (problem occurs with all Office applications since they use the same PDF generation code) and thus such a fix won't help you.
Adobe Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro  both provide an Adobe PDFMaker plug-in to Office applications (including full support for Office 2010) that adds an Acrobat Toolbar as well as a Save as Adobe PDF menu item. The resultant PDF file fully supports embedding of OpenType CFF, TrueType, and Type 1 fonts and in many other ways produces much superior PDF with a full range of PDF generation options not available with the Microsoft PDF. (Note that beginning with Office 2013, Microsoft does not support Type 1 fonts in Office documents at all, even for existing documents!) The Acrobat Office functions are widely used and respected in the end user community and whatever “issues” there are (all software has “issues” of some type - it is a matter of how many and how severe), you should be in much better shape for PDF production that with what you currently are using.
Good luck and let us know if this resolves your problems. (Note that you can download and install a free fully-functional 30 trial of Acrobat Pro to assure that it meets your needs! You can then buy a license and activate what you already have installed.)

  • Hi, I have this green mark (with pointing arrow looks like a link) on some words show on my window screen when I open a web page, I wonder if it is a virus link or such. Need help how to get rid of it. Thanks

Hi, I have this green mark (with pointing arrow looks like a link) on some words show on my window screen when I open a web page, I wonder if it is a virus link or such. Need help how to get rid of it. Here's the example:
    WING
    GAMES
    MAJORITY
    Thanks

If the third link you posted (the link containing the word "majority") does not look like the following then you inadvertently installed adware.
That particular page should resemble the following:
The word "majority" in the third paragraph should not be a link and should not have the green icon associated with it.
To learn how this may have occurred, and how to prevent it from occurring in the future, read How to install adware
Most so-called "news" websites are nothing more than entertainment outlets that cater to prurient interests, and contain advertisements that leave the user about three clicks away from installing junk. If you decide to frequent those websites, Safari's "Reader" feature helps minimize that exposure.
    Try it:

  • I created a brochure in pages and exported it to a pdf format. The pdf looks and opens perfectly using preview but when opened in adobe reader (which my printer uses), fonts look odd, transparencies don't display...etc. Tells me error exists on page?

I created a brochure in pages and exported it to a pdf format. The pdf looks and opens perfectly using preview but when opened in adobe reader (which my printer uses), fonts look odd, transparencies don't display...etc. Tells me error exists on page?

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

The ColorSync filters control the conversion between color spaces of files on the Mac and are used when you export or print to pdf.
The ColorSync Utility is inside the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder.

  • Thick border around hyperlink in exported PDF (in some PDF viewers)

We are seeing an issue with the formatting of hyperlinks once a report is exported to PDF.
The problem is that the resulting PDF shows a thick black border around the hyperlink, but only when viewed in certain PDF viewers.  For example, the formatting looks fine in various versions of Adobe (both Reader and Acrobat), but when viewed in PDF Converter Pro (our company's new standard) we see the thick black border.
Also, GSview completely chokes and refuses to display the PDF.  Not sure if this error message is a red herring..
The problem occurs in PDF's created by the following Crystal environments:
    - Full version of Crystal 2008 designer (even though Print Preview looks okay)
    - A .NET web application built on Crystal 2008 components
    - A .NET Windows application built on Crystal 8.5 components
It seems that our PDF output file has had this problem for at least the two years that we have been generating these reports, but was not noticed until we switched to a new standard PDF viewing application ([PDF Converter Pro|http://www.nuance.com/imaging/products/pdfconverter.asp]).
Initially, I thought that Crystal was relying on our installed PDF creation tool to generate the PDF, but I understand from this thread that Crystal uses its own PDF engine:
[Version of PDF export Engine|Version of PDF export Engine]
Any advice would be appreciated.  From what I have learned so far, I think our best option might be to find a way to get users to use Adobe Reader to view the problematic PDF files.
Edited by: Shannon Wagner on Sep 23, 2009 5:16 PM - (Removed GSView output since it seemed to be messing up the format of the post.)

    Hola,
does anyone know if this bug (and yes, it is a bug), has been fixed in any later version of crystal reports ?
I am using Crystal 2008 and any object with a defined hyperlink is getting a black border written into the PDF when the settings on the control explicilty say 'None' for all 4 borders of the object. This is true when the pdf exported from CR is viewed on the latest versions of Snow Leopard (Mac OSX 10.7) on any Mac computer.
This is a posting for a mac forum circa 2009 which still applies at the the time of my posting here - http://hintsforums.macworld.com/archive/index.php/t-106893.html
The problem is that the PDF exported from CR is being generated with the following settings for the border of the affected objects:
    /Border [ 10 10 10 60 ]
if the top, left, right, bottom border in CR is set to 'None', then the reports designer should actually be outputting this:
    /Border [ 0 0 0 0 ]
if you open the PDF in TextEdit on the mac and make the above change, the borders disappear. However this is obviously not a suitable work-around for an end-user.

  • Poppler based pdf viewers don't seem to honor embedded fonts anymore?

I apologize if this thread is misplaced. I realize poppler is not in [testing], but since I ride [testing] and recently got the new xorg/mesa update that I believe may have indirectly prompted this breakage, I figured my thread would end up here anyway.
After a recent upgrade, libpoppler based pdf viewers don't seem to render pdfs with embedded fonts quite right anymore.
The last time I opened this pdf in evince was two or so weeks ago, and I just now noticed that evince has begun rendering it oddly. Here you can see some comparison screenshots between a ghostscript-based pdf reader (mupdf) and evince:
    Screenshot 1,  Screenshot 2,  Screenshot 3,  Screenshot 4.
Unfortunately, I've been pulled away from my laptop for the last few weeks, and when I did an -Syyu recently, I had a fairly huge amount of packages to upgrade (making this issue even harder to debug ). If anyone wants to take a look at my pacman log, here's the log from the recent huge upgrade. And yes, I realize ghostscript, evince, poppler/poppler-glib and libspectre are in there.. but when I reverted to their original revisions from /var/cache/pacman/pkg, I still had the same symptoms.
Sorry if I've overlooked anything glaringly obvious. I'm sleep deprived at the moment... though, if anyone has any suggestions on where to proceed trying to debug this issue from here, I'd really appreciate it... and thanks for taking the time to read this.

I'm fine with the reader's reader substituting Times for Times New Roman, Helvetica for Arial, etc. As you can see from the pub, precise typography isn't all that important.
But you have no way to ensure that even those fonts are available on the viewer’s computer. Even if they are, how do you know how the substitution will occur? If I just replace every glyph (letter, numeral, symbol, etc.) in one font with another, but leave the glyphs where they are I might make the text unreadable.
100 kb is a pitifully small threshold for saving a file for offline viewing. Unless this is meant to be read in Kazakhstan, then I’d ignore this arbitrary file size limit.
About the hyperlinks issue when distilling a PostScript file: there’s nothing you can do about that, since PostScript files do not support hyperlinks. But you can export a PDF with hyperlinks, then Distill a PostScript file. Open the exported PDF and use Document > Replace Pages. Replace all the pages in the open (exported) PDF with all the pages in the Distilled PDF. Hyperlinks will remain.

  • Pages 5.1 not exporting to pdf properly

When I export or print my pages document as a pdf, some text is missing in the resulting pdf.
Is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks,

    Yes, it does.
I have a few sentences within a single cell, and half of the second sentence is missing.
In Pages 5.1, the document looks like this:
Whereas the exported or printed pdf is:
The only acceptable workaround I could find was to export to pages 09 format, open it with pages 4.3 and export as pdf. That one looks just the way it is supposed to. But it is not a solution.
The worst thing is that you cannot spot the defect at a glance. Neither can I trust the export as pdf function.

  • Looking for a pdf reader which meets these requirements

I am looking for a pdf reader which meets these requirements:
1- Open pdf starting from last page opened during last session
2- Be able to scroll between pages vertically (not horizontally like many current ones do). Vertical scroll should be a continuous smooth scroll without doing a sudden full page pull in. Should behave as if pdf is one single very long page.
3- Should be able to change width of page and lock it. Page should not move sideways. Page width should be remembered so when same pdf is opened, it opens in that width.
4- A fast scroll feature. Useful for pdf's with hundreds of pages.
5- Nice to have feature: when opening the pdf reader, it automatically opens the last pdf file on the last page read.
I have tried all the free pdf readers in the AppStore and none met all these requirements except for two which had these issues:
1- iRead limitation: When screen is touched for more than a second, the page is frozen (locked) and page can't be scrolled. Scrolling is done when doing quick swipes only
2- FileApp limitation: Does not remember last page opened. Does not remember last width set. Fast scroll doesn't work properly when width is other than default.

    iAnnotate additional points
iAnnotate works with DropBox to download and upload edited PDFs. It does all the other same things, email, USB, and iTunes etc. but it also can download PDFs from any web site.
You can transfer hundreds if not thousands of files at one whack using the AIJ Utility on your desktop.
If you transfer a large number of files you have to plan not to use iAnnotate a while as it has an index function that indexes all the text into a master 'dictionary' so it can do searches for data and find PDFs for you. This indexing takes hours if you transfer hundreds of moderate size PDFs at one time.
The biggest PDF I have feed it was a Gimp manual at close to a thousand pages.
Remember the scratch pad ram is only 256 MB in the current iPad. You can cash iAnnotate if you do something really dumb with such a large file. Other applications also grab and hold onto chunks of this ram in the iPad so it is best to force a memory reset before doing anything that is going to max out that ram.
iAnnotate allows you to have more than one PDF open at a time and you can tab between all the open PDFs in a blink just as you would in a tabbed web browser.
If you zoom a page larger than the width of the screen it slides around. Less than the width of the screen the page locks in the size while scrolling which is smooth between pages.
iAnnotate is a very well made product for dealing with PDFs. Annotations display in Goodreader and in the Mac OS Preview.

  • Missing page while converting Postscript files to PDF using Distiller 9.

    Hi
Due to some incorrect hexadecimal code in the post script, one of the pages is not getting created in the full pdf. So, we can say that the page is missing in the complete pdf file.
Here is my snapshot of the issue:
    1. Offending command issue on a particular post script data is coming up due to some incorrect hexadecimal data.
    2. If I run the postscript through Distiller 8, report is getting generated without any missing data.
    3. Whereas, if I run it throught Distiller 9.1.3, Distiller is ignoring the page due to following warning.
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: xshow ]%%
    Stack:
    41
    ( À
    4. If I run the same Postscript file in Distiller 9.3 (latest version), issue is going away.
    5. But I have another Report pdf with the same  issue but this time with a different hexadecimal exception.
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: xshow ]%%
    Stack:
    49
    (à øÀ øÀ øÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ þÿ€ þÿ€ þÿ€ þÿÀ þÀ þà þø?þ?ÿÿþ?ÿÿþ ÿÿþ ÿÿþ ÿýþ ÿùþ?ðà øÀ øÀ øÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ üÿ€ þÿ€ þÿ€ þÿ€ þÿÀ þÀ þà þø?þ?ÿÿþ?ÿÿþ ÿÿþ ÿÿþ ÿýþ ÿùþ ü%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
So, either way, even if I upgrade my version of Acrobat from 9.1.3 to 9.3, issue doesnt go away. I think the new Acrobat Distiller is buggy and introducing new problems when compared to Acrobat Distiller 9.
    1. Works fine Distiller 8.0
    2. More problems with 9.1.3
    3. Lesser problems with 9.3 but I cant upgrade to 9.3 unless i see all the missing page problem going away.
Can someone urgently look into this?
    Regards
    Hari

I am calling Distiller using command line.
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrodist.exe" /f/Q/N C:\Reporter\debug\report.dst
report.dst contains the the names of the post script files.
(I have already contacted Distiller server forum and I was told to post the request in Acrobat forum)

  • Clearscan Errors in Preview and other pdf viewers

I scan a lot of documents and have started using the ClearScan OCR option.  This produces very good quality scans and very small file sizes, but I've been running into problems when I try to read my pdfs in Preview or other pdf readers.  If I open a ClearScanned pdf in Preview and try to copy and paste some of the text, it pastes just fine.  If I save the pdf in Preview, however, and then try to copy and paste text, the result is something like this: "␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣".  The PDF still looks fine, it doesn't change its visual appearance, but the OCR is no longer correct. This is a big problem because I use several other pdf readers to read and annotate my PDFs, and any time I save a ClearScanned PDF I lose the functionality of scanned text (since I can no longer copy and paste or even search the PDF since all the letters have been replaced with "␣").  Has anyone else had any problems with ClearScan?  Is ClearScan only compatible with Adobe, or is there any way to save a ClearScanned PDF so that it will work correctly with other PDF viewers?   Thank you!

I have not tried it, but I've seen posted in another thread that one of the Preflight options in AA9 allows you to embedd the fonts created by the ClearScan process. This might fix your problem. You just have to figure out how to use Preflight!
I just tried this - it's the "Embed fonts" option under the PDF fixups category. I can't tell if it will do what you need though, as I don't use Preview or any other PDF viewer. It did seem to embed fonts that were previously not embedded, though (a) they still didn't show up in the PDF Optimizer dialog, only in the document properties dialog, and (b) it seems like the ClearScan were embedded in the first place, even before I ran this Preflight.

  • How Can I disable page scrolling when creating an interactive PDF using InDesign?

    scrolling through the pages
There is nothing you can do to prevent a viewer from navigating on their own through a PDF. One method would be to have the PDF open in Full Screen mode, this hides the navigation tab. But a viewer can use their arrow keys to go page to page, ignoring the links within the PDF. And the viewer can hit the esc key to go back to normal view. Another option would be to use a swf export, indstead of pdf, but seriously depends on how you plan to distribute this portfolio.

    Hello Robert,
I don't think such a feature exists within iBooks Author but it is a feature within ePub.
So if you are viewing ePub books on an iPad the pages turn but if you are looking at books made with iBooks Author it is a page sliding.
I will stand to be corrected here but I hope this helps some what.
