Pages Converter (for older Mac files)

Hi all.
I have a fairly new iMac that I bought last July.  I have been using Macs for years.  When iWork downloaded with Maverics I deleted iWork 09 from my HD.  I now try to open Pages files and they say I need to re-open them with iWork 09 and save them again.  Also I can not open any of the older Claris Works / Apple Works files from my University days.  Loosing alll these files due to an update that is incompatible is unacceptable.  I still have the iWork 09 key form the disks I bought, but like I said, I have a newer iMac so no CD/DVD drive.  Can anyone help?
Cheers

Pages '08 files need to be opened by Pages '09, or exported to Word .doc/docx files.
Are you sure you don't still have your older versions in your Applications/iWork folder?
LibreOffice (free) will open a lot of oldeer files.
Be warned that Pages 5 is very buggy and shy 100 features.
External CD/DVD/BluRay drives are cheap from eBay, or you can open the DVD on an older Mac and make it a .dmg file in DiskUtility, then install that from a USB stick.

No it does not. The 2 are separate.
To get Pages on your Mac mini purchase it from the Mac App Store. The icon is on your Dock.

  • AirPort Extreme 802.11n for older Macs?

Are there any plans for Apple to release some sort of upgrade for older Macs so that we can use 802.11n wireless networking?
I have a Power Mac G5 (2.5GHz DP) and a MacBook Pro 17" Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo), so the hardware in my Macs doesn't handle the 802.11n specification. (Please note that I'm not talking about the software enabler. That's not going to work on older hardware.)
Are there plans for new AE cards that can be swapped into the G5s or an ExpressCard 34 card for the laptop?
(And why oh why does the UK government not allow wide channel? UK consumers are stuck with only a 2.5x speed increase, whereas US consumers get the full 5x speed increase.)
    Thanks!

802.11n refers to a speedy wireless connection. When
you connect with a wire, you're not using 802.11 at
all. You're using Ethernet, and your Core Duo mac
will connect to the Airport Extreme at 100Mbs (a
little faster than the top speed of 802.11n). Then
The top speed of 802.11n is considerably faster than 100Mbps. In narrow band mode, the Airport Extreme cards are connecting to AE Base Stations (AEBS) at 130Mbs. In wide band mode, 270Mbs. In theory, that makes connecting to the new AEBS device wirelessly faster than via the wired ethernet. It's a design decision that just doesn't make sense in my opinion.

  • DNG converter for older versions of MAC OS?

    Hi,
I'm helping a friend who is happily using PS CS3 on a Mac with Lion or Lepard.  I'm a PC person so I'm not sure what those two names mean.  Anyway, he has a couple of newer cameras (a Sony and a Nikon) for which CS3 can't interpret the RAW files.  As I understand, Adobe is not providing support in CS3 for new RAW files and my friend does not want to upgrade to a later version of Photoshop CS or CC.  So, I suggested the free Adobe DNG converter.
In looking at the Adobe specs on the DNG copnverter, it says that it requires Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.8.  So, two questions:
    1)  Is OS X 10.6 tru 10.8 the same as Lion or Lepard (I suspect not)
    2)  Is there an "older" version of the Adobe DNG converted I can have him download that is compatible with his OS and has (or can get) the code for recent cameras?
    Thanks -- Dan

To answer the other part of your question, you can download older versions of the DNG Converter from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
The question is, though, what version of the DNG Converter is needed to handle the files.  Since you didn’t specify the extract models of cameras, that is impossible to verify, yet.
You can look at this list of cameras and ACR version numbers to get an idea what the minimum DNG Converter download that would be needed to support them, and then check the system requirements of that particular DNGC version:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Finally, Adobe is still offering the PS-CCLR subscription for $10/month (in the US).  It was supposed to expire on Dec 3rd, and then Dec 8th, but it’s still there, now without a specific expiration, but that doesn’t mean the offer won’t expire.   $120/year for the PS-CCLR subscription is about as much as it used to cost to upgrade PS-non-extended every 18 months, so if your friend can afford $10/month they can have the latest PS and run it on up to two computers.

  • Searching Archive for Older Mac 10.4 (non Intel) Computer Lost Flash Player

    Hello Forum Users!
I'm sorry to bother you, but checked recent posts and knowledge base and cannot seem to find my problem listed.
Problem starts and ends with older Mac operating system (10.4.11, Yes, I am still using Tiger and my G4 is said not to be acceptable to Leopard so its time for new computer..but until then)....
I have only a 60 GB HD, and it was getting "full" so suggestion I received and someone helped me do it, was to eliminate all old "downloads" I was saving.
Fine....except that while I was cleaning up the older programs I "don't use"  to get more room on the Hard Drive (I had less than 10 GB free and Apples don't like that on their Journal Drives), I accidentally "erased" (then threw out as trash to get room) the  Adobe Flash Player.  Not a problem!  But now of course I remember that is "why" keep normally all "downloads" as files in case I do that....so no older download to use as my own archive.
Ok, not a problem!  Go to Adobe and download a new Flash Player (Of course I can't use 10.3 and all the others you keep referring to, as I don't have an "Intel" chip operating computer, so 10.4 is supported by newer Flash Players but only those using an Intel chip which my computer doesn't have.  (Lap top else I'd try all types of modificactions to work around the problem).
Sorry too many details, but rather let you know now than questions back and forth.
The final irony is that I know of Adobe's Archives and went "back in time" downloading and testing out various Flash Players (sorry, didn't pay attention so I did not ever have marked down which version of older Adobe worked with my 10.4.11).
So I tried all the 10.2's   10.0's  9's (even the developer ones)  I hit the 8's and realized that maybe I'm not doing something right as I do think if you are using 10.3 now, that 8 versions should have been usable according to the June 2010 system requirement lists.
For downloading I select Mac  "other"  as  my operating system since the current specificaitons for downloading list 10.4 to 10.6 as  "Intel" based.
    Did I leave anything out?
I really need Adobe Flash Player as most of the web sites are just refusing to display anything but words for me, so just boring now on web without access to all the content that Flash Player provides.  (no more funny You tube videos either of course!).
Can anyone help me with my Adobe problem?
    Thanks!

To both of my helpers.....Success! (Skip to end if you don't want to read the details).
Sorry for the delay in responding to all of your suggestions!
eidnolb:  Here is what I found on the page with red "f" this time. But using Safari, the whole top of the page says "Flash" meaning that the red "F" is part of a Flash item that is not loading in Safari, but does load in my other Browser, Sea Monkey.
Using Safari I right clicked (was on wrong page sorry) and got the "ClicktoFlash---Settings" settings
I do not have regular "settings" anymore on my list just:   Load Flash/Load all on this page/add www.Adobe.com to whitelist/ClicktoFlash Settings.
And in the Click to Flash Settings there is no box to uncheck for hardware acceleration. Only things like Options/sIFR Text Updates Uninstall (of course) version 1.5.5 if that matters).
I set up my account in Adobe using Sea Monkey which I do when Safari is fully being used for other purposes that day, so that explains why I got confused sometimes, the Flash Content in Sea Monkey "works" but the same page loaded in Safari does not work.  I do have Firefox, but that has too many saved pages that have not been gone over to "unsave" them when I'm done either printing the contnet or saving the content or bookmarking it, so that is quite unusuable right now so I don't know if any of the flash is working or not on Firefox (and I don't have Chrome loaded in yet....maybe I read it was Leopard only? I forget why it is not
    another choice for me).
Willener pat's  (finally used a mirror!)  suggestion I try the FP uninstaller again, I made sure it was done using Safari (Sea Monkey does not like it)....and despite it appearing for the higher levels of Mac OSX I tried it....
Its getting complicated. I can read the instructions how to do it in Sea Monkey, but Sea Monkey does not like the file (does not know what to do with it and offers my entire "Mac" database of applications i.e. word, etc to use it (very bad).  Safari can use the file but I have to click on it without the accompanying instrtuctions to help me as they are not visible or printable anymore from within Safari without Flash.  So I'm using the printed instrucitons from Sea Monkey to follow and Safari to do the downloading!
    I'll work this out yet!
eidnolb:  I visited http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html after uninstall as you and pat say to do.
    But the message reads:
"The following displays the type of Flash Player version that this browser is running, and its capabilities.  Usually only developers creating content for Flash Player require this information: "
But Guess What?  The box is a "FLASH" item!!  So I can't see what version is in there!  (Catch-22 they call that!).
My company's Flash pages are showing up on both Safari and Sea Monkey, they pause then load even though I've not set them for "permissions" or "whitelist" on the ClicktoFlash"  because the content is created by various people and they have bad web page habits so especially I do not load Flash immediately at my company's web pages, as it can hang or cause scripts to keep working so I have to stop it.  That is why the person I deal with got me "ClicktoFlash" as just because I know how to create a web page, doesn't mean all the other ones I deal with know how!
I'm thinking at this point, should I try installing back in the  version again?  I guess no harm can come from that so I went back to eidnolb's version in original message and tried to load it in again.
    Result is: nothing!
I clicked on your address in Sea Monkey and copied to safari and both don't work.  "Page Not Found" Error.
This is what I clicked on  to get the Flash installer 10.1.102.64  before!  I know it worked then, why not now?  So I'll use the copy I've downloaded before but why is the link not working now?
    eidnolb: June 15, 2011 10:53 am
Flash installer 10.1.102.64 [http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp 10.1.102.64_and_9.0.289.0archive.zip] Open the archive to reveal yet more archives and multiple files. Select: flashplayer101r102_64_ubmac.dmg
By the way....reading everything that came with the installer program (it appears for developers only as archived version), it says to "restart" system after uninstall.  Maybe that is what I did not do, but I've closed and restarted my computer each time I leave so I know its been "done" in middle of writing your forum replies, I just save it elsewhere and come back to continue writing!
So closing and restarting everything had no effect.  On the Adobe Find Flash Player Version  page, I still can't "see" the box with version of Flash Player I'm currently running, as its a Flash box that does not activate. The other Adobe page with "red" F still does not show the me  "red" F just a huge "Flash" box that I can't open.
So here goes with installing again from the saved version of download (by the by I'm now down to 9.46 GB free since I've opened and downloaded so many files so many times.  Just don't know which to delete as nothing has worked yet!
    Now it works! I think!
I got the "Find Flash Player Version" page and I can "see" the result
I'm using Player Version: MAC 10,1,53,64
    Debug Player:  No
    Opening system Mac OS 10.4.11
    Video Capable Yes
    Audio Capable Yes
    Local File I/O Enabled: Yes
So I guess that is it!
    It works !
I could have just said this part alone, but wanted both of you to see what steps I took to get it working again!  (Might be helpful to anyone else stupid enough to try to create more room by deleting any large files with unidentified names).
Which answer fits the bill for "correct" answer? I"ll click on and award points however you both see fit (10 to best answer 5 to possible answers).
I went to check on the one you (eidnolb) answered about Google Maps (I have a iPad now and always use it for my portable use of Google Maps so didn't notice anything like he mentioned, so I just went in to give a check and Safari and Google Maps are all working fine  with street views  (the orange man---does anyone have a name for him? Have a contest!).  It all works so thanks again.
    Best regards to everyone!

  • Help converting old pagemaker mac files

Have a set of old pagemaker for mac files for a publication (text book - total of 34 chapters, roughly 1,000 pages).  Do not know which version of pagemaker was used.  Original publisher has gone out of business, but do have original source files.  Would like to convert the set of files to a format for use in newer adobe tools - framemaker or indesign so we can do updates and publish again.  Looking for someone to do this conversion, please.

If I were you, I would start by downloading the trial version of PageMaker 7 and see if I can open the files with that. If they open, the rest should be easy and you could complete your conversion to version 7 in the 30 days trial period, saving yourself time and money. The new files could be afterwards opened with InDesign, probably not completely faultlessly, but...

  • Top two best video cards for older Mac Pros?

I have some older Mac Pro towers that vary from:
2.66 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon
    ..to this:
    2 x 2.93 GHz 6 Core Intel Xeon
Looking for at least the top two video cards that are tried and tested that would work best with at least Premiere Pro and AME. I just need to narrow down the unwieldy list that can be found here: http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html

Are you adverse to using aftermarket cards that have been converted to work properly in a Mac?  If you aren't, then I'd recommend talking to Dave @ MacVidCards because he can cook you up an nVidia 700-series card that will boot properly in a Mac Pro, run at PCI-E 2.0 speeds, and work wonderfully in Pr/AME.

  • How to translate/convert read non-mac files

I can't open my bank statement which I download from the internet. It's in 'Money' format.
But since I can 'translate' .xls when working in Appleworks why can't I get a downloaded equivalent version?
What's the best way to convert non-mac files that can't be concerted by maclinkplus (which is installed in my iBook)?
    Thanks
    Gordon

That's something to take up with your bank. Most bank & some credit card company web sites give you the option of what format you can download your account information in. Unfortunately, most don't give an option of tab-delimited text, just CSV (comma-delimited), & AppleWorks can't open CSV natively. You can, though, open the file in a work processing document & use Find/Replace to Find the comma delimiters, usually "," including the quotes & replace with \t, the "code" for tab. You will need to manually remove the beginning & ending quotes. Then select all & paste into a spreadsheet.
Or you can do what I do for several of mine. I access my account info using Camino or Firefox, not Safari, & select > copy > paste into my spreadsheet. I use Camino or Firefox because the tabs between fields are usually copies as such. Safari doesn't "understand" these tabs & will paste as a lot of spaces & returns.

  • Office for the Mac - file open slowness, freeze, or crash

When I select the File - Open window, any of the Office programs take a few minutes to display all of my files in the Documents folder. When they are finally displayed, any attempt to scroll through the list or go to a specific file results in the Mac's spinning wheel being displayed. Quite often, nothing happens after the wheel stops spinning. Sometimes, it just continues to spin. Consequently, it is almost impossible to use the File - Open window in Office to select a file to open. The only way I can do so is to use Finder to display my files in the Documents folder and then selecting them in that program's File - Open window.
When the wheel is spinning, Force Quit says that the specific Office program being used is "not responding." Usually, I use Force Quit to close down the Office program if it has frozen, crashed, or been slow using the File Open window.
I spent an hour yesterday with Microsoft Support on the problem. The conclusion of the tech was that I had too many files in my Documents folder. I pointed out that other programs such as FileMaker Pro didn't have this problem. The tech's response was that Office has to scan the entire Documents folder every time the File Open window is opened, but that FileMaker Pro stores a list of the last files in the Documents folder and doesn't rebuild the list every time.
I am skeptical of this "answer." The problem didn't exist until a few months ago.
My computer is a MacBook Pro 2.3gHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 750GB hard drive which has about 500GB free. This is a fairly fast machine with a Geekspeed of 10688. I was running the latest Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.1. The problem first surfaced with Office for the Mac 2008 about 3-4 months ago running Mac OS 10.10.1. I installed Office 365 yesterday, and and Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.2 today, and nothing changed.
The only solution that I know of is to take a lot of time to segregate my files in the Documents folder into more subfolders (I already have quite a few). That I am loath to do, because the solution doesn't work very well. It takes about a minute to select a subfolder in the File Open window, and then about another 30 seconds before Office allows me to scroll through a relatively small number of files (e.g., 100 files) in the subfolder.
When this question was posted to the Microsoft Community, I was directed to an article talking about problems with Office and Mac OS. None of the solutions worked, probably because the article considered only Office X and Office 2004 for the Mac and OS 10.2 and 10.3.
    Help, please!

    1) Verify that Office is fully updated. v14.4.7
    2) I suggest you run Font Book and vailidate your Fonts. Microsoft installs duplicate fonts and after you clean up your fonts, this has often fixed odd issues with Office.
Office 2011 Duplicate Fonts to Delete
    3) Delete the com.apple.LaunchServices file in your User's Library/Preferences folder. Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar and test. More info
    If this fails to fix....
Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.
Put a few test files in the Shared folder. Data in the Shared folder can be accessed by another User. When you "Switch Users", you can access the files in the shared folder. After you log into the new test User, drag from Shared (it actually copies). Put the test files in Documents.
Open Word. It won’t be in the Dock in the new User. Go to Applications to open.
Do you still see the issue?
If yes, you can eliminate the number of files in your Documents folder.
If no, then you might want to do a clean up in Documents.
*Remember to drag files back from Shared when you log into your main User.

  • Is there a converter for the Mac Mini

I have a Mac Mini - here, in the States.
I may have the opportunity to spend time in England and would love to bring the computer with me. Did Apple make a power converter for it? Would DC power hurt the MINI? Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you for your help in advance,
    Jackie

Yes mooblie - it was helpful.
It's been a rough day - and you do not know me to understand - I didn't need anything "extra" added - I can only handle so much in a day...
I've been on line with a young thing - who has been having temper tantrums and says I'm condescending - when all I'm doing is helping her identify a font for a project and wishing her luck on it.
I think folks have forgotten the interaction that actual conversation offers. And yes, I may be considered in the stone age - to yourself, as my friend Scott would tell you - "she is old enough to be your grandma" always hated him for saying it - but it does make me laugh... and most likely, true!
Shall we start again. I have a Mac Mini in the USA - can I use it in England safely? If yes - how?

  • Beta available for older Mac's ?

I see there is a Safari for those who have Windows, but those who have the older Macs are unable to update to the newest Safari?
    Why is this?
And is there a free beta release for those with an older mac ?

Sad that this is the case, and it doesn't explain the "why" of it... but perhaps it is like many things in life, where we have to wait until we get to Heaven to understand the difficult questions in life. haha
Anyhow... I suppose I will live... or just use Firefox.
    Have a wonderful week!

currently using the x1900 right now with just the bootcamp drivers.
Before you swapped cards I would download the nVidia drivers now and put them somewhere on your Windows drive, make a folder for them. I'm not sure if you are using XP or Vista. Vista has a larger driver library (and newer) and I would think would detect it, but I'd still want the latest and greatest from nVidia's site.
Worse that can happen is you'd have to start Windows in Safe Mode (basic VGA drivers) and then run the nVidia driver setup from the file you had previously downloaded.
I just ordered the card for my Mac Pro. I had to downgrade my ATI x1900XT due to stability issues.

  • Good wireless cards for older Mac Pros

I have a Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz at work that we are trying to get online wirelessly. A couple of months ago, we bought a Hawking Hi-Gain Wireless-N USB Adaptor, which was working fine until a recent update was performed. Since then, the computer crashes almost immediately if the wireless adaptor is plugged in, but runs fine when it is taken out. I am curious if anyone else has run into a similar problem when using a wireless adaptor. I also wanted to know if anyone had a recommendation for a different, reliable wireless card for an older Mac Pro.
    Thanks in advance.

I have almost the exact same situation.
Same system, a d-link wua 1340 usb wireless adaptor.
Worked fine for several weeks or so until i updated to snow leopard.
Now frequent system crashes, grey screen and the box that tells me to use the power button to shut down.
I tried going back to 10.5 and still the same problem.

  • Can we handle content convertion for TabDelimiter flat file in JMS

    Hi,
Is it possible to handle content conversion for TabDelimiter flat file in JMS (Not in FILE adapter).
If possible .. can you please explain.
    Regards,
    Siva.

    Hi, Siva:
    Yes, this is possible.
The way that JMS adapter to handle content cnversion is similar to the way file adapter does.
Different from file adapter, you do not have to specify "Content Conversion" as transport protocol, you need to use transformation bean (localejbs/AF_Modules/MessageTransformBean) in Module tab.

  • Photo Booth available for older Macs?
