Pages crashing -- adding a comment

Every time I try to add a comment to a long document (180 pages), Pages crashes. I can add a comment to a blank document, but not the long one.
I am having this problem only on one of my computers, the iMac (same document, stored on iDisk).
Should I break up the document into parts?
Should I store a local copy?
I repaired permissions.

What is the quantity of RAM installed in your iMac ?
If you left the standard 1 Gbytes, it may be the culprit with you large document.
May you run the program "Activity Monitor" stored in "Applications/Utilities"?
It will be able to show you the quantity of memory used when your document is open.
I often forget this kind of limit because I have 4 Gbytes on my machine.

  • Blog Page crashes ie9

The next little irritant has to do with Blog Pages (i.e., http://photo.tutsplus.com/articles/shooting-articles/10-top-tips-for-capturing-the-winter- cold/), that have at least one "Comment," crashing ie9. The same page prior to a Comment being posted formats without issue and the Print button sends the page to the printer as expected
At the same time, I am curious why "control" options are not available when printing within a Browser as they are when printing a PDF file -- i.e., ink control, color/BW, etc.

    Hello,
Thank you very much for all the information provided. We have been able to reproduce the issue.
    Here is the technical information:
IE renders webpages in different modes based on the standard used for creating the webpage. By default it opens the content in standard mode based on the value of tag <!DOCTYPE>. This tag is added by the webpage creator. It defines certain standard the HTML webpage is supposed to be developed in and hence IE picks this standard to render those webpages. However, if the webpage creator does not follow the standard which is specified, uncertain behavior may occur. The cases you have shared are those where such problem is coming and LeanPrint is unable to understand the content. For more information on compatibility mode, please refer: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/askie/archive/2009/03/23/understanding-compatibility-modes-in-inte rnet-explorer-8.aspx
    Workaround:
You can enable the "Compatibility View" of IE9 by clicking on Menu item Tools -> Compatibility View. This will instruct IE9 to render the content in a compatible way and the problem should not come. Please try this out and let us know if it does not work for you.
Also note that capturing the comments is not a part of the functionality. At present LeanPrint only captures the main article of the page. However, I have taken a note of this input.
Thank you very much again and feel free to reach out to us.
    Thanks,
    Adobe LeanPrint Team

  • Pages crashes after first synchronization

    Hi, everyone.
Last night I synchronized for the first time my home and office Macs using Leopard and my .Mac account. Since then, my office copy of Pages crashes shortly after I start using other programs. The screen simply dissapears. The program is apparently still running but there's nothing on the screen. The only way for Pages to work again is restarting the computer, and again it crashes when I start using other programs.
I tried restoring Pages using Time Machine. I also tried deleting iWork and reinstalling from the disk. Even tried updating the program. The same thing happens... Pages is fine until I start opening programs.
I use Pages all the time, so this is really frustrating. Your help would be truly appreciated.
    JAMM

    Lost is lost.
Buy it from the Mac App Store. It is not that expensive and you will then get all updates automatically and be able to install it on several Macs so long as you use the same Apple I.D.
In future I suggest you protect your investment in software by buying an installer USB drive and adding all your installers along with purchase records and serial numbers on that.

Pages crashes when opening any document on iPad 3 Latest version. I tried everything I could find on the net and finally deleted Pages from my device and reinstalled it. Still when I try to create a new document or open a document it just crashes out.

    Try this:
Make sure IOS is updated to latest version
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • Pages crashes when I try to open particular files

I'm having a problem with Pages quitting unexpectedly. It first happened when I resaved a pages file as a second file (.pages format), renamed it, did some editing and saved it. Then I tried to re-open the original file. This was when Pages first crashed. Now it crashes whenever I try to open either of these two files - although it seemingly has no problem with any other files.
There was loads of work in these two files and I desperately need to retrieve them. I cannot seem to open them with any other program either - are there any other programs that will open .pages format?
I have tried several things advised in various forums to deal with crashes. I tried trashing youraccount > library > preferences > com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist, then restarting. I tried verifying then repairing the disk permissions. I tried logging in as a different user. I tried uninstalling then reinstalling iWork. None of these things have made any difference.
I can't seem to contact Apple directly (where is the Technical Support, guys?), so this forum is my last hope.
    Can anyone help me? Pleeeeeeeeeease......

Pages crashes with me all the time. I'm resorting to breaking my book into 6 page documents...a major pain. Also sometimes I have to reopen the document before all the photos show up in the layout. What an ustable app.
I even bought a new Mac Pro tower thinking that it was the power pc chip. Can't be fonts since they all crash again even after multiple fresh installs and reinitialize drives.
Tech support says it's because I'm using too many photos.
I may have to go back to Quark. This app is HORRIBLE.

  • Pages crashes on start-up every time - please help!

About an hour ago Pages crashed (spinning beach ball) while I was working on a document. I had to force-quit. When I tried to re-open, the splash screen didn't appear and it became unresponsive. I had to force-quit again.
These are the troubleshooting steps I've followed:
    1. Restart
    2. Delete Pages preference files
    3. Repair permissions and clean system, local and user font caches
    4. Check for corrupted fonts (I use FontExplorer X Pro, a professional font management program, for these last two steps)
    5. Completely delete iWork (using AppDelete) from my computer, and reinstall from disk
After all of those steps, Pages still hangs at start-up. I'm out of ideas.
Keynote and Numbers work perfectly, as do other word processing apps like TextEdit and MS Word.
    Can you help?

I restarted in Safe Boot mode and opened Pages. It seemed to work fine. After restarting to my user account, Pages opened without a problem. I guess some caches that were corrupted got recreated.

  • How do you recover a pages document when pages crashes before you can save it for the first time

Pages crashed unexpectedly before I had a chance to save it for the first time.  How can I recover that document?  It must be out there somewhere!!
    Thanks

If it wasn't saved once it is gone.

  • Carry over formatting to the next page without adding a text box

I've written 15 books on the old pages and had no trouble carrying the formatting to the next page without adding a page or adding a text box to the added page.  I just kept on typing.  I've added the new pages and had trouble right from the start so I went back to the old and got a good start, but going through that added procedure on every new page gets old in a hurry.
It shows the number of pages at the bottom, but a new page doesn't come on automatically  when I type.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Ron  -  [email protected]

    1. Why not continue to use Pages '09 in your Applications/iWork folder?
    2. In Pages 5:
Setup (gear icon far right of toolbar) > check Document Body
and the text will flow from page to page.

  • Pages crashing when printing to PDF

I have a pages document with Chicago Style footnotes. Pages put the footnotes in automatically when I put footnote numbers in my text. When I try to print or export to pdf, Pages crashes. It creates the pdf file, but it is empty. It does not do this with other files, so i am assuming something in the footnote formatting is causing the error.

    Check the fonts used.
The last few System updates have installed faulty fonts including Hoefler Text and Franklin Gothic which have caused problems in Pages.
Update your system with the downloaded [Combo OSX 10.6.4|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048] updater to fix the problem.

  • Pages Crashing

When I close certain documents, Pages crashes. If I save the document immediately before I close it, this seems to be avoided. Occasionally, though, it crashes anyway. I teach piano, making assignment pages in Pages and printing them at the end of a student's lesson. I use one document for each student, creating a new one each September. So these documents do get kind of long (26 pages this week) and contain colored text and some small graphics. I also have a document for each student on which I note lesson plans and other info. These are smaller documents of only text, not more than 4 or 5 pages long, but some of them contain document links & bookmarks. The crashing only occurs when I close the assignment page documents. Does anybody else have this kind of problem?

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but at least you know what to do to keep it from crashing. And maybe someone will come along with the answer you want.

  • 1 Page(s) Deleted 1 Page(s) Added...Why?

    Hi all,
this is my first post in the forum and i hope someone can help me.
I'm developing a tool in Objective-C which produce pdf digital signature in the PADES format. The signature is added as as revision, redefining/creating the opportune objects (Acroform, annot, SigField etc.).
The original file is (One_Sign.pdf) signed using Acrobat standard 9.0
The output file is (Two_Sign.pdf) signed using my tool
The signature seems ok but Adobe reader invalidate the first signature telling that de document has modification between the signature (1 Page(s) Deleted 1 Page(s) Added)... obiusly i didn't any modification
Can some one help me to understand this error?
Maybe the original file is usig Cross-references stream instead of classic xref table while in the revision i use classic xref table?

    Hi lrosenth,
thanks for the reply, i'm implementing PADES part 3 and 4 in objective C.
As you suggest, to solve the problem the first step is to write the code for the cross-reference stream in the updates and not use the xref table.
Concerning the pages, i had to redefine (17 0) and (21 0) in order to add the annotation. For other PDF documents that was not a problem. Why it is a problem with this file?

  • Pages crashes or not responding

I use Pages importing doc and docx files, editing and saving them back and forth between Pages and Word formats. My issue is that Pages crashes frequently (spinning wheel of death) and I must force quit and restart sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. What is going on with this program? I have a MacBook, the current OS, about 120 G of free hard disk space, 2M RAM and use a portable drive for most of the work I do. The files I develop are primarily text files with minimum graphics.

How much RAM is Free (green in the pie chart of Activity Monitor)?  Check it just after a restart of the computer and again during typical daily operation with all apps that you normally use running, and a typical Pages document being edited.  If the green slice of the pie ever gets to less than 25%, you're a candidate for more RAM.

  • Pages Crash: Possible Document Recovery?

Hey, as I was inserting a table into an extensive lab report I was typing Pages crashed.
I selected relauch from the crash window and was not greeted by a recovered version of my document. The last time I saved was a about and hour ago, and I would really prefer not to have to retype this all out again.
I went into console and pulled this out:
    3/13/08 3:13:35 AM com.apple.launchd[73] ([0x0-0x28028].com.apple.iWork.Pages[391]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault
Does pages offer ANY kind of recovery? Does it dump the document on crash into some sort of crash report? Anything at all?
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Welcome to the club.
This question was often asked and responded.
    The response is NO .
As with all computer, the b.a.ba is to save regularly when we are working on a long document.
As I know that many users are reluctant to do that, I wrote an Autosave script which is available for FREE on my idisk.

  • Pages crashes since Yosemite update

I have two computers, a 15" MacBook Pro and a 11" Air. Since I updated to Yosemite, pages crashes overtime I try to use it.
There are no other updates to fix this if it were a bug and all other programs are running perfectly. What can I do?

It certainly would help if you told us what version of Pages and what the message is you get when it crashes.

  • Pages crashes upon export of PDF every time

I am attempting to export a document with endnotes as a PDF, and Pages crashes, without fail, every time.
    Any ideas?

As Dunestrider mentioned it is likely that you are experiencing the bug discussed here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=768661&tstart=15. I've since noticed that it also causes Pages to crash when you print too.
You probably have a reference to a footnote/endnote that has been manually deleted from the footnote/endnote area. The solution will be to delete the reference from the document. Finding the blighter will be a tad boring. Hopefully you will know roughly where it is because there will be a gap in the sequential numbers or some extra whitespace between two notes.
