Pages default save directory

How do I change the dafult save directory to Desktop instead of iCloud?

You can copy & paste the following command into Terminal or use Mountain Tweaks (it's under the Mountain Lion tab).
defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool false

  • Changing the Default Save Directory in Acrobat

I am currently working with multiple systems, some using Acrobat 7.0 and some using 6.0.
Basically, I am wondering if in either of these versions of Acrobat it is possible to change the default save directory to something other than 'My Documents.' Acrobat will remember the last directory I saved to if I have already saved to that location once in a given session, but if I exit the program and then enter it again, it defaults back to 'My Documents' instead of the last place I saved.
Is there a way to set the default directory in 6.0 and/or 7.0?

No. Put a short cut to where you want to go in the My Documents folder and you are only 1 step away.

  • A.Reader 10.1.3 Default Save Directory

    Hi,
Ive tried searching on the forum, but i haven't been able to find an solution.
As the title might show, i'm looking for a way to set a default save directory for Adobe Reader version 10.1.3
The reason for this, is that when a user tries to save a file PDF file that was opened inside Outlook, it will look into the directory the file is currently placed.
And since its inside Outlook, its throws a temp folder somewhere deep inside the user folders.
    Example : <User>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\6D3ZBZC2
Some users are confused by this, so it would help alot if someone could help with a way to set an default save directory.

If it could be done it would have to be set from within an Outlook Registry item, not Reader as it is Outlook that should control where files are stored. The truth of the matter is that when a pdf file is downloaded, it order for it to be viewed it must be separated from the email and stored by the computer. Windows whats files like that stored in a temporary directory so they can be deleted as needed. Having attachments that are viewed stored elsewhere  can cause issues of its own.  It is better to train PC users on how Windows behaves, rather than trying to change its behavior on an app by app basis.
By the way, the Mac OS's mail program behaves in a similar fashion.

  • Pages default export directory

    Hello,
If I save a pages document, then export it, I wish it would default to the directory where I just saved the original document. Instead it defaults to the directory to which I last exported. Is there a way to change this default behavior?
    Thank you.

I don't understand how you may get that.
The Save dialog and the Export one doesn't share the default path.
The only way which I am aware allowing to get this behavior is to Save As Word but in this case, technically speaking it's an Export task but the practice is different: you don't use the Export track.
So, if you want to work with two folders,
use Save for documents saved as native ones,
use Export for documents saved in a foreign format.

  • Bug: bad default save directory

When saving files (e.g. a stored procedure definition) in "File ... Save As", the default directory is always "C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile". That's stupid and senseless. What's worse is that a changed directory isn't remembered, it always defaults to that location, wasting time every time.
    Suggested fixes:
    1) Make the default the working directory when sqldeveloper is invoked. For example, the one specified in a shortcut.
    2) If the "Save as" directory is changed by the user, then remember it and use the same location next time, or at least through the current session

    I see this in 3.2.20.0.09.
When attempting to "Save Package Spec and Body", the default is "....sqldeveloper/bin", and there is no way to change the default (one can change the directory for the current operation, but the problematic default will be there the next time one attempts the operation).
    This is very annoying.
I don't even see where it was intended to be able to configure this. Under "Tools->Preferences" I don't see anything that looks like it would configure it, in sqldeveloper.conf nothing seems to be useful, and scanning the results of "Help->about->Properties" suggests that the "VMOption" of "user.dir" might be relevant, but changing that seems to leave the program inoperable.

  • Can I set the default save directory for bookmarks?

I always save a copy of my bookmarks to my USB key. But, each time I save a new copy, within the same session, I must repeat the process and navigate again to the same drive (USB key) and folder. Is there a solution?

  • Pages default directory

Aloha all: When I save a Pages doc, one that had been previously saved, I would think that the Save dropdown dialogue box would automatically have that directory listed. But, no. Not the case. So, I have to be careful to chose the directory from which my doc came or I get things like a real estate contract saved in my Music Directory.
Isn't this weird? Bad enough that I have to continuosly check the Save as a Word Document. But, really, the default save directory listed in the box really should be correct!
    Tom

I agree Apple's default behavior is terrible.
Install [Default Folder|http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/7214/default-folder-x] which will do what you want, plus many other functions.

  • How do you change the default save as directory when saving a PDF file to your hard drive?

This is the on-line help instructions on this site:
Downloading a PDF file to your hard drive
You can download a PDF file to the hard drive from a web page's link. Downloading PDF files doesn't require the ActiveX plug-in file to be installed. (If you want to open and view the PDF file after downloading it, you must have Acrobat, Adobe Reader, or Acrobat Reader installed.)
To download a PDF file from a link:
    1. Right-click the link to a PDF file, and then choose Save Target As from the pop-up menu.
    2. In the Save As dialog box, select a location on your hard drive, and then click Save.
My issue:  I want to save several pdf files (from the Adobe Reader in my browser) one at a time and each time it defaults the save as directory to the desktop and I have to go looking for the directory I last saved a pdf file in.  I got lots of directories and I wish I could change the default setting for the save as directory.  Just a minor thing but irritating as other programs usually will allow you to switch the default save as directory to one of your choosing.

There is not a way to set the default location from all the forums i searched in the last couple days.

  • Changing Default Save Location in Pages?

Recently moved my wife from Microsoft Word to Pages in Lion
All her work docs have been in Word (saved to many different particular folders in Dropbox)
Whenever she opens in pages and edits I would like it to save back to the same folder it was edited from (and ideally overwite the old Word document as a 'default save option' is that possible?
At the moment the default save is to "Documents" and you have to navigate back to the old folder manually and save new pages document. Then you have to  back to finder and deleting the original Word document (otherwise duplicates with same name just without the .doc ending). It is a very awkward workflow which I know will drive her nuts and is open to easy errors of her filing
    Any help much appreciated
    Nic

When you open a Word document with Pages, you are in the same condition than when you create a new document from a template.
There is no path linked to the created document so, the save dialog will default to the late folder used to save.
I assume that there is at least one third party tool allowing us to behave differently but I don't know which one.
Here is a short script which may help.
It doesn't treat several docs at a time.
Just use it to open a Word document. The script will be aware of the original document so it will be able to save automatically a Pages version in the source folder.
If a Pages document with the same stripped name than the Word doc already exists, the new Pages document will be date_time stamped :
In such case, azerty.doc will be not be saved as azerty.pages but as azerty_20110819_165721.pages
    --{code}
    --[SCRIPT Doc2pages.app]
Save the script as an Application Bundle.
Run it or drag and drop a Word's doc icon on its icon.
It export the doc file as Pages one in the source folder.
    Assuming that we start with:
              trucmuche.doc
    it will be exported as:
              trucmuche.pages
If a file with the short name already exists
    it is saved as:
              trucmuche_20080128-221639.pages
the serial number is a packed version of the date/time of the save process:
              2008/01/08-22:16:39 .

  • Oracle 10g Express Edition - change default working directory for save ?

    Greetings all,
I'm completely new to Oracle but I am quite sure that on Oracle 9i, when using the <save xyz.sql> statement, a file was saved somewhere on the hard drive.
I accidentaly managed to convince XE to save .sql files on C:\ but I would like to change that ...
Google refused to offer me a solution so I'm asking you guys for advice.
And no, <save desired_path\filename.sql> is not an option :P, I would like to make the change permanent.
    Thank you in advance,

    Hi,
If you are using Windows, you can edit your "SQLPlus 80" shortcut.
Changing the "start in" path to, e.g. "c:\sql" will do the trick. SQL+ commands such as "save" and "get" will now use "c:\sql" as default working directory.

  • I do not want Pages to save to iCloud by default

Whenever I save a new Pages document the default Save destination is iCloud, which do not want. I'd rather it defaulted to Desktop or Documents. I'm not seeing how/where to set that? Can anyone straighten me out? Thanks for looking...

When you open Pages, do you see a display something like this:
What happens if you click "On My Mac" on that display when starting Pages?

  • Set Pages to save in MS Word format by default

    Hello,
I am looking for a way (AppleScript, plist, automator, anything...) to set Pages to save in MS Word by default. Every time I need to send a file, I need to save (Export) a duplicate copy in MS Word.
This can easily be done in OpenOffice (in Settings) but I would prefer to use iWork and Pages instead.
    Thanks

I feel that using Pages as a .doc editor is absurd but I can't change users behaviour.
So, I understand why fruhulda is reluctant to give a reference to my script.
On the other hand, I feel that delivering a script is more safe for the user than doing surgery by hand in the plist files.

  • Want to change the default save location- users have networked home dirs

I am doing some work for a school which is still using iMovie HD because it allows them to save their movie projects wherever they want. The issue is that iMovie 08 and 09 do not allow you to change the location in which they save their movies. Currently all users/students have network home folders, so their home directory, documents, etc all pull across the network. All students are limited to 1GB of space, and the system is an older G4 Server- 2GHz with 1GB of RAM and 2x 500GB hard drives. Since the students can make some large projects transferring that data back and forth can kill the server. Currently they are staying with iMovie HD so they can save it to the local hard drive, and when the student comes back in for class they sit at the same machine- thus giving them access to their stored movie files.
This summer they plan to upgrade both Xserves, but again internal storage in the Xserve is a joke and in my opinion not planned out properly. Which might require them to use one of the Apple Promise RAID units- major financial burden on a school.
I wanted to see if there was a way to change the default save location for iMovie 08 or 09 to the local storage rather then the "Home" folder for each user.
    Thanks so much!

    hackths wrote:

    wrong info.
iM08/09 has a different file concept than iMHD6.
Both versions allow to store Events (=huge files) 'anywhere' to usb or firewire connected, hfs(+) formatted harddrives. the Project files (=small files) can be de-located from 'internal' drive with vers09, for 08 you have to use a socalled symLink to de-locate Project files.

  • Need help changing the default Save Path

    Hello,
We are implementing SAP, and will be using Citrix as the source for the GUI.  One of our requirnments are, that we need to change the default "Save Path" that users save documents too.   By default, this is to the C drive, but, we need it set to a different drive (i.e. V: on the citrix server).
We found this note on SDN (see below) - however, it does not explain how to change or add this registry value?  Is this done in the GUI options, or in regedit?  If in reg-edit, where abouts in the tree does it go?
Thanks guys, and any help would be greatly appriciated.
    Richard
(As of SAP GUI 7.20, patch level 4) the REG_EXPAND_SZ registry value InitSaveDir can be used to configure the default path and folder for users to save the reported information in case of an access denial due to security rules. If users change the default path and save the information to an individual location, this new path will be kept as long as the user does not terminate the program. When starting SAP GUI again, users will get the configured default path again to store the reported information, the individual path changes will be lost. If the registry value does not exist, the default directory is the document directory of the SAP GUI.
By default none of the above registry values exists. In order to change the behavior of the security module, the registry values need to be created and set to the desired value. A not existing registry value means use the default.
    In this doc:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/002444be-7018-2d10-e18e-a8c537198ef6?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true

    Hi,
"Security rules that are created for a large number of users can be centrally stored on a server by an administrator. The administrator can use the registry values below under the registry key
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SAP\SAPGUI Front\SAP Frontend Server\Security]
to configure the behavior of the security module.
Note: For 64 bit operating systems please use the following registry key
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP\SAPGUI Front\SAP Frontend Server\Security]
to configure the behavior of the security module."
You can use regedit for installing this values.
    Best Regards,

  • How to set the user's Default joboptions directory?

    Hello Experts,
When we installed Acrobat Pro 8.x on our Win XP Pro systems our systems were NOT in a Windows Domain.  At that time the default location for user-created/customized joboptions files was:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
where <Username> is the name of the LOCAL Windows user.
A few years ago we migrated to a Windows Domain and converted our LOCAL users to domain users and disabled, but did not delete, the LOCAL user's account.  We did not remove the LOCAL user's Documents and Settings directory structure either.
Our users now log into a DOMAIN rather than the LOCAL account.
    As a result of that process the user's Documents and Settings directory structure changed to;
      C:\Documents and Settings\<Username.DOMAINNAME>
where DOMAINNAME is, of course, our Windows Domain Name.
    Now we are beginning to use Acrobat Distiller joboptions and I notice that when Acrobat/Distiller goes to save a user-created/customized joboptions file the default location has remained;
      C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
which is NOT the user who is logged in
    Acrobat/Distiller should use the Documents and Settings directory of the user who is actually logged in which is;
      C:\Documents and Settings\<Username.DOMAINNAME>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
This anomaly has created some confusion and appears to have created a dependency of the old LOCAL user's Documents and Settings directory preventing us from deleting it.
    Question:
How can we force Acrobat/Distiller to use the Documents and Settings directory of the logged in user (eg: the Domain user)?
In other words, how do we set the user's default joboptions directory?
    Pointers/tips/and tricks are most welcome.

    if the user is the one running the program, you can always get the home directory using System.getProperties ("user.home");
If you are trying to get the properties of another user, you could try using setProperties to change the user name first, before getiting the home directory, but it probably won't work because of the security manager. You could read the /etc/passwd file and parse the path out, but once again, the user of the code would have to have appropriate permission.
