Pages doc losing images

we have created two 90+ pages doc on our g5 twin - panther - and when we open them on the g4 powerbooks - tiger - many of the images are gone or corrupted.
How can we prevent this from happening?
Thank you.
g4 powerbooks and g5 twin Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hello towhom,
welcome to the Pages Discussions. Normally this shouldn't hapen at all. I am working in a Linux-Mac Network and store all my business letters, invoices, etc. I made with Pages (version 2) on the Linux machine and until today there was no problem.
Is the document alright when you open it on the machine on which you have created it? Have you copied the file a second/third time to the PowerBook to see if this is an ongoing problem? How big are the file sizes of the documents? Please describe how the corruptions are looking like? Are there any other problems with the documents (text, shapes, tables)?
To check if the images are broken or if it is a Pages display problem, open the documents package folder (hold control key and click onto the document icon, than choose the menu item "Show Package Contents") and try to open the "corrupted" images out of the appearing Finder window with Preview or Photoshop and see what happens.

  • Convert RTFD to Doc (without losing images)

    Hello!
Is it possible to convert RTFD-format files to Microsoft Word (doc) format - without losing images?
As a longtime Mac user, I have a multitude of RTF and RTFD files. I want to be able to access the contents of these files on platforms other than OS X (eg: Windows).
RTFD is not supported outside OS X. I'll qualify this by acknowleding that since RTFD files are OS X Packages, they show up in Windows as a folder containing image files and an RTF file; some people conclude that this is acceptable since, strictly speaking, its readable by windows. I disagree because its fiddly and hack-like rather than simple, recognizable and practical like a .doc file.
Given that I can open an RTFD file, copy/paste it's content (images and text) to a new blank Microsoft Word document and save it as .doc, it seems to me that I should be able to automate those steps using AppleScript or Automator.
I've Googled for a solution to this but no-one else is talking about it, with the exception of:
    - the command-line 'textutil' converter, but that creates ascii files that are necessarily stripped of all images
    - converting to HTML, but that creates more than a single file (an HTML file plus a folder containing the images)
Am I missing something really obvious?
    Many thanks!
    Peter

    Hi duncang!
The command-line 'textutil' app strips out images and so is useless for my purposes. As you pointed out, the solutions suggested by MrHoffman and Etresoft are incorrect.
A solution for my original post for this thread: use Apple's Pages for Mac (part of the iWork '09 Suite). I have succesfully converted thousands of RTFD files containing images into Microsoft Word (.doc) format.
If you have a lot of RTFD files to convert, then I recommend using an applescript to automate the process.
The applescript wizard Yvan Koenig (link) has very kindly provided a useful applescript for Pages '09 to automatically convert batches of RTF and RTFD files into Word or PDF. That guy knows what he's talking about and should be knighted for his efforts and kindness.
Look on his Box dot net public folder (link) for a file called 'batch_Pages2Doc.zip' (created Jan 31 2013). Here is the path to the file: / for_iWork'09 / for_Pages09 / batch_Pages2Doc.zip
    - open the script in 'AppleScript Editor' on your Mac
    - read the useful instructions he provides in comments within the script
    - save it as an application so you can use it as a droplet onto which you can drag multiple RTFD files
    - you can even edit the script using his instructions so it exports PDF as well as Doc
    - it saves output to a 'wasPages_now_doc' folder on either your desktop or in your Documents folder
    I'm running:
    - Mac OS X 10.8.4
    - iWork 2009 (retail boxed edition, not Mac App Store edition)
I hope this helps. It took me months to discover the solution to my original post.

  • I have 2? How do I sync selected photos from my IPad to my IMac w/o losing all photos on my IPad and getting the phoos o my IMac. ou see I have two IMacs with different sets of photos. Also want to convert all Apple works docs to pages docs on my IMac.

I have 2? How do I sync selected photos from my IPad to my IMac w/o losing all photos on my IPad which will be replaced with the photos on my IMac.You see I have two IMacs with different sets of photos. Also want to convert all Apple works docs to pages docs on my IMac. Is there and app available to do the former. many thanks. b

The iPad and related software is designed to sync with only one computer. I suggest transferring the photos from one of your iMacs to the other so that all photos are on one Mac. Same for all other files you want to sync over.
To get those AppleWorks files to the iPad you'll have to determine if Pages will open them. If it will then use the file sharing feature of iTunes to copy them to Pages on your pad.
If Pages will not open the AppleWorks files directly you'll have to save them in some format that Pages will read. These include but may not be limited to Pages and Word formats.

  • HT202879 Since opening an existing Pages doc, all the previously centred images and tables are now too far to the rights - leaving a large blank space to the left of each page. Any ideas reducing?

Since opening an existing Pages doc, all the previously centred images and tables are now too far to the rights - leaving a large blank space to the left of each page. Any ideas re fixing this?  Problem remains even when I open an earlier version on the previous version of Pages

It has always been that the upgrade tries to be the "master" over the older version.
Anyway in Pages 09 you have probably the Comments field showing, making all contetn to move to the right.
Go to View menu > Hide Comments.

  • How do I save a pages doc to mobile me cloud

It seems this would be simple. But I can't figure out how to do it. I save everything to it when using my laptop and it has saved me from losing important documents when my laptop crashed. Any help is appreciated.

When you are ready to save your Pages doc, hold down the option key while selecting the File menu. Now, Save As ... appears. Select it.
Initially, you will see iCloud on the selector. Click and hold, then choose Desktop from the drop down menu.
Now, click on the little down-arrow. This opens a file selection window on the Desktop, where you can scroll to the existing Folder, create a new one, and then save your file.

  • How do I get Pages docs to iCloud?

I've only have a Macbook Pro running Lion--no iphone or ipad.  I've made the movedfrom MobileMe to iCloud.  Mail, Contacts, and Calender have uploaded and are there, but the iWork icon sends me to a page that says, "To get started, launch Pages on your iOS device and turn on iCloud."  I don't have an iOS device and don't plan on getting one.  Can I still get my pages docs from my macbook pro to the iCloud?

Thanks for your quick response.  I am disappointed with the iCloud.  It is bad enough losing my Gallery, now I can't even upload a document.  Maybe Apple's wisdom will become apparent in time . . . or maybe not.

  • How do I make a Pages Doc a jpg?

I used to be able to press "Save As" but all of a sudden I noticed that option is gone. I could Print and "Save as" a jpg, and that option is gone also. I am not sure if a new softward update took that option away, but I can no longer convert Pages Docs into jpg. Please help. Thank you!

Technically, you are correct, and the PDF export provides the best choice of image type and resolution control. Here is an approach for a 72 dpi image of a document page. Less practical than the PDF export solution.
    Open the document in Preview
    Turn on View Thumbnails
    Select the page to image
File > Take Screen Shot > From Selection...
Place the selection cross-hairs in upper left, and drag over page, then release.
An untitled image appears in thumbnail view. Select it.
File Export...Default is 72 dpi PNG.

  • When I open an old pages doc in new pages 5.0 objects in table cells are removed. how can I stop this?

When I open an old pages doc with new pages 5.0 - objects, specifically pictures, in table cells are removed. Is there a way I can stop this?

    nigel32,
Gavin is right.  You are bound to lose images in tables of docs made in previous versions.  If you wish to continue using Pages 5.0 to edit docs from previous versions, you can try re-inserting your images using the following method:
    1.  Click on the cell you want to insert to.
    2.  Select CELL on the right contextual menu.
    4.  Click on FILL and select IMAGE FILL.
    5.  Click CHOOSE then select the image you need from Finder.
    6.  Tweak the appearance using the SCALE slider or drop down menu.

  • Convert template to normal pages doc?

Is there anyway to convert a template to a normal pages doc so that you can edit the background and fixed content etc? (I need to get the background of a template)

Create a new Pages document and select the template whose image you seek. Click once on that image, and then copy it to the clipboard. Launch Preview, and from the File menu, choose New from Clipboard. From Preview, save the image.
Most Apple supplied templates have text that is placeholder text, and images that are placeholder images. That means you can click on the text to edit it, especially the Latin Lorem Ipsum stuffing, and drag/drop an image over an existing one to auto-size and replace. You will know it is placeholder text when you click on it and the background color of the text turns a coral color.

  • Open Pages doc from server by two persons !!!

    Hi,
We have noticed that you can open a pages doc from a Apple MAcOS X Server from two diffrent persons, what wil result in not saving any data. Normal you CAN'T open a file that s already open ... !! This is a really big risk .. ?
What to do about this .. ?

This is a flaw that has existed since version 1 of Pages. My solution is to work locally and save globally (locked). It is a pain, I know, but it keeps multiple people from attempting to work on the same file at one time.

  • How do I only put selected iPad Pages docs onto iCloud?

I am using the latest Pages app on my iPad2.  I want to only put certain documents from Pages into iCloud.  I want to do the same with Numbers and Keynote.  In other words, I want to decide what does and does not go onto iCloud.
Is there a way to do so?  If not how can I save Pages documents to Dropbox?

There is no way on an iDevice to sync Pages docs (which are stored in the Pages app's sandbox) to Dropbox.
You can't decide which docs go to icloud, it's all or nothing.
But on the mac side, you can decide which pages files are synced to icloud and which are not.  That's as close as you can get to controlling what is stored in icloud.

  • Syncing Pages doc with links

In Pages 5.2.2, I have a document with many hyperlinks. Works fine within the document, but I want to export so I can use the doc in Google Drive to sync with my iPad 2, or some other way to sync besides iCloud if possible. iCloud hasn't been working great for me under Mavericks and iOS 7, which is why I haven't bothered to get Pages for iOS yet.
When I export the Pages doc to a Word doc and then convert to Google docs file, the links appear but are not directly clickable.. the full URL appears on secondary click. And that is clickable. But those links in the same document viewed in iOS are not clickable at all.
Maybe once I get iOS 8 and Yosemite, iCloud Drive will be the answer, but meantime, any ideas for easily sharing this Pages document across devices? Would it be best to buy the Pages app for iOS at this point?

Thanks, I think it's free for newer devices, but I have an iPad 2 and in the App Store it says $9.99.

  • Emailing individual Pages from a Pages doc?

I am mebership secretary of an organisation. Next month I have to send individual invoices to over 100 members. to create personalised invoces, I set up the invoice in Pages and then used Numbers to merge individual members' names, addresses, etc into this document.
Last year I was working on a PC and with Word and Excel and there was an option to email individual pages from the Word doc. It was easy and quick to send out all the invoices.
However, in Pages, it only offers merge to a new document or to the printer. Even if there was a was a way of being able to quickly separate each page (ie individual invoice) from the one Pages doc, I could individually send the emails, but it looks as if separating the pages will be long and laborious.
It has to be easy and straightforward - ie not using Apple script (if at all possible), as whoever takes over this role from me - and who may not be so computer savvy, will need to be able to do this job easily.
    Grateful for any suggestions.

    s,
Go ahead and Print the Pages document to PDF > Open in Preview.
Make sure that you are viewing the thumbnails in the Sidebar.
    1. Click on a page thumbnail in the Sidebar of the PDF document, visually confirm the content, Command-C to Copy.
    2. File > New From Clipboard
    3. File > Mail Document.
Repeat steps 1-3 for each page you wish to mail.

I was sent a .pages doc.  When I try to open it with pages I'm told "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." I have the newest version of pages on my computer. What should I do?

I wonder if you are running an OS earlier than 10.9.x?  If so, you cannot run the *latest* version of Pages, which is 5.1.  Apple is trying to get you to update your OS to 10.9 Mavericks and then get you to update (but defintiely not upgrade) your Pages version to 5.1.  5.1 is, in everything but name, beta software. It not only has many bugs, it also lacks more than 90 features that are present in version 4.3 ("Pages 09"). One workaround that is to open the file with Pages for icloud (this is explcitly beta) and click tools|download a copy in Word format.  Pages 4.3, which is probably the version you have, can open Word documents.  Get a cup of coffee or a glass of wine before starting Pages for icloud: it is s-l-o-w.

  • Firefox stops responding when trying to "save page" or "save image"

Windows 7 64 bit and Firefox 28. When trying to 'Save Page' or 'Save Image' the save dialogue window is nearly blank, then info bar shows 'not responding'. I have tried all the tips in the support pages. Resetting Firefox, Starting Firefox in 'Safe Mode'. Upgrading graphics driver to latest version. Turning off 'Hardware Acceleration' in options. Nothing resolves the problem. This issue has only recently started, the last time I tried saving an image it worked fine, certainly prior to Microsoft's most recent 'upgrade Tuesday'.
    Edit:
Checked the save dates of the last images I successfully saved from within Firefox and compared them to my windows update log. The Microsoft March 'Update Tuesday' was installed on March 14th. My last successfully saved Firefox images were saved the following day on March 15th. Thus it is unlikely that the Firefox saving issue is a result of a Windows Update corruption. So the question is what changes have Mozilla made to Firefox between 15th and 24th March 2014 ???

I understand that finding a root cause is ideal, and I would be happy to further investigate this with you.
Since it is still happening in Safe Mode [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-issues-with-plugins-fix-problems please try to troubleshoot the plugins and extensions]
The other route is to troubleshoot the downloads folder and antivirus to make sure the downloading of the image is not having an issue either. [http://mzl.la/LJ0h2w]
In the meantime there is an add on that enables this [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/save-images/ Save Images]
Please post back with your results, there have been other reports, but no issue filed yet.
