Pages document will not open, it says I need a newer version of Pages.  I have already installed and created this document in the new version of Pages

I just created a document in Pages.  Now when I try to open my document in Pages I am given a message that I need a newer version of Pages to open it.  When I go to the Appstore it shows that I have already downloaded the latest version.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

    Hi 2181pine,
Type Adobe Reader on 'Spotlight' and launch Reader. It will prompt the 'End User License Agreement'.
    Click on 'Accept'.
After this it should work fine for you.

    See:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
You need the 8.2 version of the ACR module, and PS10 is too old to be updated.
So, you can choose between 3 solutions:
    - update PSE to PSE12
    - use the Canon software to convert the raw files to the tiff format which PSE10 can handle
    - download and install the free Adobe DNGconverter which is able to convert a whole folder of CR2 raw files to the Adobe DNG raw format which PSE10 can handle.
The last two solutions are free.

  • Pages '08 will not open .doc documents after upgrading to Mavericks

Since updating to Mavericks Pages '08 will not open .doc documents even when created with Pages.

I am unable to check what you have on your Mac so you will have to run your own series of tests to determine exactly where the problem lies.
Starting with the file extension on the Word files.
You didn't say, but have you installed Pages 5?
Is your previous installation of Pages '08 in your Applications/iWork folder?

  • One of my pages documents will not open. the others will

Hello, wondering if anyone has any answers here. One  (only one) of my pages document will not open. The message says `the document couldn`t be opened` and there is a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle of it,  next to the message. I used this document this morning, no problem. Also, I checked other pages documents and there is no problem only with one.
    Kind regards,
    Thank you

    Hi italiancooking,
This may help. In Finder, right click (or control click) on the document icon and Open With > Preview. If this works, copy the content and paste it into a new blank Pages document.

You should be able to Save as: iWork 08, but i don't know how it works on Mountain Lion. On my Snow Leopard the Save as window has a part looking like this
Or you can send me the document if you are in a hurry and I save it as iwork 08 for you. Click on my blue name and you'll find my address.

  • Pages app unexpectedly quit whilst I was in the middle of a document. I can now not open it AT ALL. I find it's not just that particular document that won't open, but any of my Pages docs will not open using the current version of Pages. Any help?

Pages app unexpectedly quit whilst I was in the middle of a document. I can now not open it AT ALL. I find it's not just that particular document that won't open, but any of my Pages docs will not open using the current version of Pages. The reports of the app unexpectedly closing each time, automatically went to Apple, but I am not sure what happens with them then. Does anyone know how to help me with this? We live in a very isolated region so rely on internet help. Thanks

I also managed to read a few other discussions about Pages and files not being able to open. I actually went to the last back-up and restored the computer from that and everything seemed to work ok again, which is great!...advice from another discussion I think you may have been involved in PeterB. Thanks for the advice...also this advice, as I will make a note of trying to open using the Shift key if it happens again and see what happens...might be an easier first option than restoring from a back-up. Thans heaps for the help!
I was interested to read some of the other discussions where it was stated that Pages '09 seems to be a better option to use. I have both installed, so I will lkeep this in mind. Thanks heaps!

  • A Pages document will not open.  Others do, but are slow.  Need this document!

A Pages document will not open and there is a screen annoucement it will not open.  Other Pages documents do open, but are slow.  The one that will not open now was also very slow.  My last visit to the Apple store the Genius Bar said I needed a new HD.  Is this the final straw and it's time to take it in and let them replace it?  Under warrently.

Do we know what document won't open?
Do we also know what version of Pages you are talking about, on what MacBook Pro?
Something tells me you are not using Mac OSX (10.7), the only thing you have noted.
If your Mac is running slow, the usual reason is your hard drive is too full. OSX likes 10-15% free space.

  • Page documents will not open.

Suddenly some of my page documents will not open. I get this message: You need a newer version of Pages to open this document. I have the newest version and it has been opening these documents just fine previously

Sounds like you have both Pages 5 and Pages '09 on your Mac and are alternately opening them.
When Pages 5 was installed, your iWork '09 software was moved to your Applications/iWork folder.
Pages '09 can not open Pages 5 .pages files.
Don't toss Pages '09 however as it has vastly more features and is less buggy than Pages 5.

  • Cloud documents will not open today?

Local Pages documents on my Mac will open as normal. Cloud documents will not open today. They worked yesterday.
Does anyone else have this problem? And did you find a solution?
    Many thanks
    Iain

OK, I'm replying to my own post.
I have two documents saved to the Cloud which will not open on my iMac. When I tried to duplicate one in the "open" window, Mac OS brought up a warning that the document was being modified. When I checked it on my iPad the document did not exist. So something went wrong during a sync at some point. On the iPad I could duplicate the document and now I can edit the duplicate on my iMac.
Summary: at the moment it looks like sync problems with specfic documents and not a general problem.

  • Pages simply will not open

    Hi,
My apologies if this has been covered, but I'm at my wits end with my ipad 2.
I've updated to iOS7 a month ago and my iMac only yesterday to Mavericks. Now, Pages simply will not open on my iPad. I had no problems with pages until the Maverick upgrade. Until then, everything was hunky dory.
I have rebooted, restored my iPad 2 and deleted all my pages files from iCloud and still it will not open.
Pages will open however, once I set the preferences to local, no longer using iCloud on my iPad 2.
Naturally, this is far from ideal as I tend to finish work on my iPad 2 that I started on my iMac.
Do you have any idea why it's not working any longer?
    Any help gladly welcome.
    Tarmac.

    Hi JimHdk,
Thank you for your recent help and advice. I had already tried a soft and hard reset of my ipad, along with a full restore. None of those helped sadly.
However, I did have some success yesterday.
I downloaded all the files from icloud to my iMac and then wiped iCloud clean. I connected my iPad to the iMac and then did another fresh restore of IOS7 and it seems to have cured the problem.
After the restore, I synced with iCloud and as there was nothing on it; it took no time at all. Then I added a file to icloud via the iMac and it appeared on my iPad 20 seconds later. It seems to be all working again, so perhaps it was just persistence on my part?
Either way, it now works. Try that qtrust and see if it works for you?
    Thanks,
    Tarmak

  • Itunes will not open, message says library was created with earlier version. what now?,

itunes will not open, message says library was created with earlier version. what do i do?

Unless you just attempted to downgrade iTunes to an earlier verison this is probably a sign of a corrupt library.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.
